Some questions related to Nexus' camera:
1. do you guys see any kind of choppiness / lag when panning the phone around in camera / video mode (without actually shooting anything)?
2. when recording 1080p, does the same level of smoothness hold?
3. do you see any smoothness / jumpness when watching the video recorded in the question above?
//
I'm asking this because i see a lot of differences on how top notch phones (dual core 1.2 GHz+) behave when panning / shooting. The HTC Sensation for example has some "skipping / occasional choppiness" when shooting & panning in 1080p but the recorded material is smooth...strange.
//
4. What size are the panoramas shot at? Full size stiching or does it resize to something less?
5. How many photos approximately fit in a panorama shoot? Other built-in panorama modes (on Samsung or HTC) usually fit 3 images side by side.
6. Do you see any drop in smoothness of the displayed image on the screen when panning between bright (normal daylight) and darker (under a desk for example) areas?
MANY THANKS in advance!!!!
I think if this kind of thing matters to you, you should be using a dedicated point-and-shoot digital camera. In the same respect that if sound quality matters, a phone isn't exactly the best solution.
All-in-one devices, by definition, cannot be the best.

A dedicated P&S soapbox can be bought for 1/3 of the price of a Nexus and delivers camera quality far better than any phone. If i want the best, i'll get a RED or a Hasselblad. But that's not in scope here.
My questions are directly related to the $650+ piece of hw/sw which stands as Samsung / Google / Android flagship phone of 2011
Thanks.
I'll try while you wait for a more dedicated answer:

I do not, the speed is great. Sometimes the shutter speed is too great though, and subjects occasionally are blurry... Usually remedied by use of the "action" scene though.

It resizes (without specifying in the app/settings) before you capture the image (viewfinder shrinks a little ~ 3MP maybe?)

It is one fluid motion; like a video capture- no evidence of individual pics being snapped. Stitching seems seamless from what little bit I tested it. I am very impressed with the panorama functionality.

No, it just takes a fraction of a second to readjust exposure
thanks man!
Anyone have this issue?
All I can select is 1:1, 4:3, and 16:9. Nothing else. What the heck is this?
Same here. No quality adjustment. Only aspect ratio.
Same very weird

From owning the S6 for a week, and reading all the reviews and people posting here, I'd say it's unanimous that the battery on the S6 is awful. It would last half as long as my G3, and that was with many features disabled, bloatware disabled, and I used Greenify. Great battery life when using the phone, but standby was awful.

Jesus. The problem is there's no indication of what resolution you are taking the picture at at ALL. An idiotic thing to leave out of a camera app.

So many reasons......
File size, image size, image preview speeds, upload limits on websites, being unecessary in general, etc. It's really sad that there's no resolution adjustment.....
Maybe check for a photo size option? Like S/M/L? My DSLR does it like that.
Hi everyone,
While I'm waiting for my phone to reach me, I have a recommendation and suggestion.
I believe changing the aspect ratio itself will adjust the resolution.
As with my previous phones, I think the 4:3 ratio would be the full, native, 16 MP resolution, or a photo size of 4608 x 3456 (multiply 4608 by 3456, you get 15.9 million pixels, or 16 MP)
A middle resolution would be the 16:9 ratio
The lower resolution would be the 1:1 ratio
Please, if someone could take a photo with the last 2 ratios, and let us know the photo dimensions, then we can figure out the resolution
Update:
Well... it seems I may have been wrong.
I found some 16:9 photos on this forum, and judging by the size, they're also 16 MP. It's very odd but it looks like this could be possible because of a customized sensor.
I'm not sure how it works really, but my theory goes down the drain :/
I agree, it is irritating. Likewise there is no indication on the video side of things what frame-rates everything is recorded in, having a choice between 1080p30 and 1080p60 would be good, as well as 720p30/60/120.
I find myself using the native app for random quick pictures and then using FV-5 for more indepth photography...

I have tried it
the 16:9 is the full resolution
both 4:3 and 1:1 are cropped images

Also no choice for RAW unless in manual mode. RAW 16:9 option would be nice for auto along with other resolution choice.
Just to confirm, the default 16:9 ratio gives you the full 16MP.

That's true, but you can go into manual mode and not toggle things you want to change, which basically means it's still in auto mode, except you can now get RAW.
just use Google camera

no but you can at least change the resolution for your pictures, solution for that for now

So you buy the G4 only to load Google Camera with its crappy processing?
anyone have success in running google pixels camera on P10 for HDR +, and what other camera apps You use ?
I use Cortex camera for quality slow photography (multi processing) like S8 but much more frames (s8 takes 3 photos and combine them) Cortex use 10 - 100 photos for best quality.
I also use A better camera, but still missing Super sensor option on P10 for best output.
Stock camera use too much sharpening for landscapes and distance objects, but it is fine for near objects...
I've not had any problems with the stock camera and can't get Google pixel camera to install.

Not working with my mate 9
Anyone having problems with the panorama photos they are crap! The joins are rubbish and any horizon shots I take look like the Manhattan skyline!

Looks mostly fine to me when shooting horizontal panoramas. The only vertical panorama I've shot is blurry on one half and I don't like manual switching between shooting vertical and horizontal panoramas. Overall I like samsung's panorama user experience better but I think I'll live
The Huawei Leica camera also use stacking when processing the pictures.

Yes but stack bw & color photo? result is fine details but also some noise is present.
The P10 raw image have very high dynamic range. So it can stack them like the Pixel does.

Yes they are ... Huawei have to improve ?
The panorama is really not good. I hope Huawei will fix it soon.
For now, I have a photo for you all I made with my P10. Nothing edited, shot in manual mode free handed.
Hola
RE: P10 Camera a talk
I'm seeing much better results than Pixel or iPhone 7.
Quiet satisfied with the camera but I hope they will port PanoSphere to their Camera Mode
This is one shot with a really hard light, the phone however did a really great job.

Just casually run into this thread (I own a Mi5s) since I have also looked for alternatives to Google's multiframe hdr+.
On the Mi5s Cortex works wonderfully on low light still subjects. But my favorite app is Snap Hdr Camera on multiframe Nightmode (usually set to 4-8 frames) for those shots that require iso 400-2000, much faster than Cortex, and better than Better Camera on my phone. Incidentally Almalence, Better Camera's developper has licensed its technology to Huawei in the past.
Is there a way to completely disable all the beautification and bokeh options for the front camera? I don't like the effect at all and disabling it every time can't be the only solution.
That's weird. On my phone, it's only on if i left it on the last time I used the camera..
We have an early camera test from PC World. After looking at the photos, I don't see major changes in Photos taken with both aperture sizes.
You can hardly say this is taken with f/1.5 and this is from f/2.4!
Both f/1.5 and f/2.4 images look good and similar in all conditions. :cyclops:

Covered here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s9/how-to/notice-post-questions-t3754328
f/1.5 allows more light in, so the same scene can be taken at a faster shutter speed and/or lower ISO. Faster shutter speed means the shutter is open for a shorter amount of time, so less chance of blurring due to movement of the camera while the shutter is open. Lower ISO means less gain, so less noise. Both are big benefits for low-light photography. I don't think the scenes used in those pics were the best examples of showing off f/1.5 vs f/2.4.
I have S9 it has very good Camera not great.
I think Samsung should just go to a larger Sensor.
Is this Camera any better than the 16 Megapixel from Note 4 ? Is it 5% better ?
I recently noticed that, when zooming in after a photo was taken (on my desktop, full HD monitor, using Google Photos or Irfan view), the quality is really really bad, I can see the pixels and looks grainy. Granted, the pics were inside but the light was decent.
As a comparison, the quality of non-zoomed it of photos taken in the same condition with my old LG G4 is worse, but when I zoom in on those to a similar level there's way less grainy effect and visible pixels. Zoomed in they look considerably better compared to the G7. All photos were taken on Auto.
Not a photography expert, I just point and shoot, it's very possible I am missing something. Tested on my wife's G7 and it's the same. Am I doing something wrong? How's the quality under similar circumstances for you? When you zoom in. that is.
Thanks
Try the gcam app.. Stock camera app is sacrificing details for sharpening the image
