Htc desire 820 custom rom - Desire 820 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone
I have HTC desire 820 single sim and I unlocked the bootloader and copied all the info
and I wonder is it possible to flash it with Linux ubuntu for desktop since my ultimate goal is to emulate exe files with wine.
if desktop ubuntu wouldn't work I can try ubuntu touch as well
I know little but I'm learning fast and I would appreciate any help and advices.
Cheers

I think you can try to install postmarketOS. You would have to "start a new port". Also, it looks like wine works only with x86 and x86_64 architectures, and you would have to install box86 or box64.

i was just wondering..... because the htc desire has a 1 Ghz processor and also enough ram for windows xp to run.... would it b possible to run on this powerful device?

No
Windows (XP, Vista, 7) only works on Intel x86 (and x64) processor.
Zero chances to run on the Snapdragon

3.11... LoL, Back To The Future...
Maybe via emulators. You can run Windows 9x on winmo devices with an emulator.
Don't know about Windows but I've seen people booting Debian with fastboot on the Nexus One...
would b great if some1 is able to make windows xp to work on the arm processor..... if that happens.... the possibilities r endlesssss

[Q] Making roms

what i must know for makin my own roms?
Where to start!!! There is so much to know, i think if you are interested in this you should get googling and searching the forums, here isn't a bad place to start http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=611. You can easily modify the ringtones and apps in a pre-built rom by unzipping the androidinstall.tar and deleting the apks you don't use from /system/app/ and ringtones you don't want from /media/ and re-zipping using 7zip but i get the feeling you want to do more then that. Get searching and hopefully see some of your work on the forums sometime!!!

Linux is very handy for compiling from git repositories etc... and it is also easy to set up the eclipse IDE for android developing in linux. People also seem to have more sucess with setting up ADB in linux which is very handy when developing. That being said the android kitchens will also run in windows and 7zip is for windows when it comes to creating the final tar installer so it's certainly not impossible. I think you will find most of the developers will have used linux for one thing or another. You can always run it in a virtual machine using virtualbox from within windows.
working ADB on linux (Ubuntu or Suse) with Kaiser?
Must I know Java for developing??
i dont using Virtualbox, but VMWare..

VMWare is fine, Virtualbox is just an opensource alternative. ADB works fine on ubuntu with Kaiser, i'm guessing it works on Suse too but i don't use it. Look here for more information : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=502010. If you want to develop apps then you need to know java, a lot of the source code (i.e. libs and the kernel) are written in C.
so its bad for me.. when im 16 year old and i dont know Java and C i cant developing it.. but thanks for advice
At 16 you have a lot of time to learn, start now, I regret not taking the opportunity to learn coding when I was younger, do it, and do it soon

[Development] Native Debian on HTC G2 Desire Z

Hi all !
After my Native Debian on HTC G1, I try Native Debian on HTC G2.
It's more hard because I don't know why, VT FrameBuffer crash the phone ...
I have compiled new Kernel HTC-DESIRE-Z 2.6.35.10 with my own options to get no crash, but no VT (is it on modul for test later )
I have passed 3 days on my initrd to get booted Debian Natively with SSH acces.
Is everyone interested by developping real Linux directly on Desire Z phones ?
I have an recoDebian.img who able to boot the phone on debootstrapped Debian on the 2nd Partition of SDCard.
Actualy, I can get Leds works (I use it to know where is my phone on boot process), USB Ethernet, whit SSH access.
The BCM4329 is up but no AP detected.
If I insert the fbcon.ko module, I crash the phone.
If anyone what try the first step of a Native Debian on this phone, I can upload mon recoDebian.img with some instructions to get it working.
Regards

Try a different kernel. As in the CM7 one or the TMOUS G2 source. I'm unsure whether or not the DZ source will work.
If you need any help that ain't compiling the kernel (my laptop is a female dog) I'll try. And I don't mean testing. I ain't no noob trying to get early access to this. I want to see this, so I'll try help.
Native debian on G2
Anything new? I am really looking forward for this!!!!
Many many thanks
I'd like to see Meego on G2 one day but perhaps I am asking for too much ;_;
Native debian on G2
I am following !!!!!
cant wait..
Hi!
This sounds quite interesting!
Could you please share the images? I don't have much experience with android internals rather i'm experienced linux user, so boot+ssh access is the perfect starting point for me.

WinRT on Nexus 7

Good afternoon!
A few days ago came into my hands one file, it was a way I've found windows rt restore img. Googling found that hardware stuffing differs only display resolution and count-tion of memory (in Asus Vivo RT 2 GB, Microsoft Surface 2GB while the Nexus 7 1 GB), but the problem is that all WinRT tablet is uefi bootloader. Remembering Projects OSX86 and about chameleon, empire efi, decided to port the bootloader on Nexus. Make the type MultiBoot.
who will help me in my endeavors?
Cotulla make with htc hd2 magldr>uefi>win rt (magldr this is custom loader with sdcard boot support) / can we make a analog of magldr for nexus 7?
Hi, I acan't help but don't see why this isn't possible (albeit very hard) as win rt has been run on htc hd2 http://www.xda-developers.com/windows-mobile/htc-hd2-refuses-to-die-now-runs-windows-rt/ however I beleive a custom firmware was written for the very purpose.
I am trying to do the complete opposite and install android/ubuntu on the vivo tab tf600. Best of luck and please post updates if you make any progress.
need people who can write uefi loader/ please write.

Unfortunately I don't have the technical knowledge to be able to help you with that...
But I think I've read that MAGLDR-UEFI was based on tianocore, so you can start with that!
Code:
tianocore.sourceforge.net
But it's an awesome project!:highfive:
I hope you can make it happen! :fingers-crossed:
Just now, we need MS SurfaceRT tablet, and I collect the money for it.
But in priority I have psVita Hacking...

We need to have bios for our devices to boot it directly and since we don't have one, our best choice is to wait for a project on xda (I don't remember the name well but I'm pretty sure you can find easily if you search for it) that ports bios for android devices.
But to be honest even if you can run windows on mi 6 there are 2 bad news for you:
1) The vast majority of windows applications are written for x86 architecture and we have arm architecture, so to run them you should emulate either os or run the app in an emulated sandbox - so no good performance.
2) As I said in 1st one, emulation is a must (if you aren't planning to compile all those apps for arm architecture). Also windows 10's capability of running x86 apps on arm is based on that very emulation method, it runs them on a WoW (Windows on Windows) so there's clearly a hit on performance.
I suggest you to not to expect to have a decent windows system running on your arm device but if you need/want to run more basic windows apps, you can try Limbo PC Emulator. That way you can run some older or stripped down versions of windows with no heavy performance loss. For most of the basic things I find MicroXP project enough but don't expect to be able to run Photoshop on that I hope this answers your question.
I see, thank you ccelik97 for your clear answer.
