I noticed my lockscreen had a station logo as my lock screen and I didn't have an option in the phone to change it but then I noticed it was a music group after I used Pandora. I've never seen that on previous phones. Can I turn that off?
I'd love to know as well. I found a suggestion to turn off notifications for the app that's showing the art, so I just tried that and it works. However, I'd expect some setting for the lock screen and it's not there.
Was it push notifications? I just turned it off. You'd think it wouldn't over-ride our phones own operating system.

No. I turned off notifications via App > Notifications > Off.
I wouldn't mind the tune-in art if the resolution wasn't so nasty bad lol. But some stations' art is really bad.
For me I goto "profile ==> settings ==> push notifications" then I turn off the switch on push notifications. I don't see a regular notifications. I see the title Notificaitons but the switch is at Push Notifications. Maybe I'll try through the Android Settings and goto App settings within the Android menu.
Ok I think I was able to do it via Android outside of the app so hopefully that works wooo hooo finally =).

Is anyone else experiencing issues with push notifications on our device i have never had one on stock or cyan has anyone got it to work???
Notifications show up on my lock screen but no alert or sound to tell me that they have arrived?
Go to the main screen where you can access your news feeds, profile, friends, chat, messages etc and press the menu button to get into settings.
Once there turn on anything you want to be alerted for and set a ringtone for it.

Hello all. I just decided to retire my Vibrant yesterday and got an S3. I haven't changed much on it. I'll run it stock for quite a while. I am using a custom launcher, etc.
My battery life is horrible though! It's not even noon and I'm already down to 35%. I've made sure S Voice is not set to wake up when I talk to it. My weather was set to update every 15 minutes by default, but I've changed it to every hour. I charged it in the van on the way to take kiddos to school, and it was at 80ish percent. So that's quite a drop in not a long time. Granted, it's new, so I'm playing with it.
What tips can you give me to get the best battery life I can out of it? Besides custom ROMs. I'm not even rooted. Yet.
Well how long has your screen been on? That will be the determining factor in your battery life. Like you said, it is new and you are playing with it so I am willing to bet that probably has something to do with it.
Otherwise, turn data off when you aren't using it and keep the screen brightness as low as possible.
Here's what I do with a freshly flashed rom. I pretty much drill down through every setting turning off what I dont need.
WiFi - turn off network notification.
More Settings - Everything off
Sound - turn off everything below "System"
Display - Auto brightness off. Timeout 1min. Smart Stay off. Touch key always on or off. Auto Adj Screen Tone off. Battery% on.
Power Saving - Off.
Accounts and Sync - Off
Location Svcs - Off
Language and Input - Voice Cmd off. Voice Recognizer (all off for google and Samsung). Voice Search all off. TTS driving mode off.
Backup and Reset - can't remember what its listed under but below carrier data press to open and uncheck collect data (this is carrier iq, so I removed it asap once rooted)
Accessory - all off
Developer Options - set animation scales to 0.5x.
Hope that helps. I keep a lot off and only turn stuff on when I need it. There's some pretty cool features but for me it doesn't hurt my experiance with the phone to not use a lot of them.

Ah. My screen was set to stay on for 10 minutes. That, I would imagine, was a large part of my problem. At least according to my battery stats. Why do they set that as default??
My screen brightness is now set to low. What is this with the data? Doesn't that mean I would not receive email, google talk messages, etc?

I just did almost all of these. With the WiFi detection off, will I need to manually find my home network each time I get back home?
Also, if I turn Voice Command off, I won't be able to push the button and say "Listen to blah blah blah" or "Navigate to ....." correct?

I am on CM10 so I am not sure where it is for stock Touchwiz, but I would assume you could go to settings > display > screen timeout and change it there.
Yes, turning off data would mean no push email or Google Talk messages. You could download an app that turns off your data when you turn the screen off, then on when you turn the screen on and your emails and messages would come through then.

I should have also mentioned I turn off wifi and data when I don't need it to, which is rare but it happens at times!
By turning off the wifi notification, the only change is it won't give you a notification in status bar that there's an open network nearby that you could connect to. Itll still auto connect to any network you've already got configured.
For voice cmd, it won't let svoice open apps for you. But for example in navigation you can still hit the mic button on keyboard and speak your destination.

On the Wifi issue. What I do with regards to wifi, is if I know that I am not going to be near an open connection, I turn it off. When I am at work, there is no wifi nearby that I can connect to. So I use Mobile Data instead. Why you ask? It is because when you have your wifi on, in the back ground it is always scanning for a signal. Turn that off and no scan, then no drain for something that you are not using at moment.
I know that this is a bit deeper than you wanted to go, but in the Build.Prop you can put a setting [wifi.supplicant_scan_interval=] and you can set that out. The time in there is the time duration on scanning intervals based on seconds. So the setting wifi.supplicant_scan_interval=180 means that it scans for wifi and doesn't find one, then counts off 180seconds and scans again.<--This is what I have mine set too, btw.
Disable the wifi when your not using it.
Hey guys, I wasn't sure if this warranted it's own thread, but I think it does since there's no "Ask Any Question!" sticky like some of the big boards.
Anyway, when listening to music through Pandora, I have a persistent notification allowing me to pause/play my music from my Moto 360. Can I turn it off? Notifications are very large and block the face so I can't tell the time. Normally, I'm okay with swiping others away, but this one is persistent. I tried adding Pandora to the notification mute list in the Wear app, but that didn't work. I can mute all notifications, that's not what I'm after. Can I just turn off music control somewhere?

Go to Android Wear app on your phone, select the Cog Gears (Settings) icon on top right corner. Select first option "Mute app notifications", select Pandora or any apps you don't want notifications to be pushed to your watch. Done!

Is there a way to disable ALL notifications? I dont see a reason to get notifications on my watch when I always have my phone on me. I guess you could say I got it for an advanced watch, not another gadget to notify me of e-mail, etc

You can just pull down from the top of the watch until it vibrates and says "Mute" then you won't get any notifications until you repeat those steps to unmute it
For some reason, this trick doesn't work with tune in radio
Really?

Ummmm, you did know it was a smartwatch when you bought it? If your not using it, as a smart watch, then I don't see the point of you owning it... Just saying.

Wanting to get rid of a persistent notification that bothers him hardly puts him in the category of not using it as a smartwatch.
Even if you turned off all notifications, it's still a smart watch, it runs apps, responds to voice queries, keeps your phone unlocked, etc...

Remember during initial setup when it asked you to activate the Android Wear notification listener service? Undo that. Then it has no idea when you have a notification.

This doesn't work for Spotify either. Are there any other idea's?
Just adding my voice... it's a really annoying 'feature' of Android Wear (or Wear OS, as it now seems to be called).
I went through and I disabled every single notification (about 300 or so of them) and the media notification still appears, and doesn't time out. This is annoying because it lights up the screen which eats through my battery. Why can't it auto-hide itself LIKE EVERY OTHER NOTIFICATION?
Grrr....
How do you turn off Flipboard notifications? I'm tired of this app spamming me every day, I've tried going into the app going to profile, hitting the settings icon and then going to Push Notifications and unchecking all of the boxes but its still sending me the notifications!
Thanks.
Block it with debloater
Goto tablet settings, apps, find flipboard and turn off notifications, simple ☺

That's the problem, I use it daily, just hate the notifications. I have everything unchecked in settings and still they notify me. Ugh.
If the app is running in background you still get notifications, even with it disabled in settings, only way to stop it is to open recent apps and clear flipboard once youve stopped using it, this seems to happen with alot of apps, i get the same thing with news republic app

Android allowing notifications
The Blocking Mode on Galaxy devices lets you disable the entire notifications on your device, But how to disable notifications on Android for selected apps? follow the instruction to specify which application is allowed to show notifications on the status bar:
1. Open Settings and go to Application Manager (or Apps on some devices)
2. Now you should see the list of installed applications on your device
3. Tap the application you would like to disable notifications
4. Make sure "Show Notifications" is not checked
androidwidgetcenter.com/android-tips/how-to-disable-notifications-on-android-for-selected-apps/
I also cleared data and signed out - some who still use FB may not want to go this far.
I'm so proud of myself. Some months ago, I started searching the Internet to find out how to end those annoying Flipboard notifications. Today, I was out searching, again. Somehow, I accidentally discovered the answer. And you'll flip when you read my solution! (Definitely, no pun intended. )
To disable Flipboard:
1. Go to your notifications.
2. Find a recent Flipboard notification item and touch and hold the notification item.
This action should take you directly to the app's notifications settings. At the very top is the option to disable Flipboard's notifications.
This worked in my Sansung Galaxy S7, but I see no reason it shouldn't work for other devices/users who are disgusted with the annoyance.
Hey all, my ring doorbell app wakes the screen anytime I get an alert. I want to keep the notifications on but don't want the screen to wake. It wakes even in my pocket which I want to of course avoid. It may just be a bug in the app but I should be able to limit that from happening. Or so I hope anyway.
I have tried the following.
1. Switched all notifications pertaining to the app and individual cameras to "sound only"
2. In the app I have disabled "alerts open full screen video"
3. I have disabled heads up notifications globally through ADB.
4. Disabled ambient display.
5. Disabled notifications on lock screen.
I'm at a loss on what to do next. Any ideas are appreciated at this point.
TIA

I've struggled with the same thing for months. It never used to do it, but after an update earlier this year it became the new normal for me.
I'm glad I'm not the only one. Hopefully somebody chimes in with some sort of work around.
I'm having the same problem with a Sony XZ1 phone (Android 8.0.0). I spoke with Ring at length and it's 'apparently' a problem with my phone, not their App.
I think that's a load of rubbish and something they need to address and fix. I installed the App on another Android phone running an earlier version of software, the App installs with different options and doesn't wake up the screen. So it's obviously dependent on the OS version but as other Apps don't have the same problem I can only conclude that it's an issue with the Ring App.
Has anyone tried uninstalling the app and then install an older version from APK mirror? Not even sure its on there but it's worth a go

That's a great idea. There are plenty of versions to try on APK mirror, one or two per month from 2018. Not a good sign for a reliable and stable app.
I'll give it a go later unless anyone gets there first and can suggest a 'good' version to try
Were you able to find an older version that doesn't have the screen wake behavior?
edit: Pixel 2 - going back to 2.0.66.8 still has the screen wake behavior regardless of notification setting.
edit 2: 2.0.57.2 does the same thing...
Looks like the latest ring version finally let's you fix this. Select your devices, go to notification settings, then select sound only. The default is sound plus pop up. I no longer have the issue after making the change.
Can anyone confirm if turning off the 'plus pop' in the ring app settings works? I have a new pixel 3 on Android pie and the app is still turning on the screen at every alert event with settings set to just sound or just silent.
I'm having the same issue with the ring app. It wakes the screen. Really sucks when phone is in my pocket. I have tried every option and or combo of options. I have a pixel 3a on Android 10. Android 10 does have a option to wake screen for notifications found under display advanced, lock screen. But it is turned off
Still a problem on Android 10, No combinations of settings has been able to stop this for me. Of course Ring denies this even though I have sent a logcat to them.
