command not available on locked device - OnePlus 7T Questions & Answers

I unlocked the bootloader and flash the AOSiP rom without problem using the command "fastboot update rom.zip". However when I tried to flash another rom using the fastboot command it failed and gave me the message "command not available on locked device". I am confused since I already unlocked the bootloader to flash the AOSiP rom. What could be the problem? Thanks for your reply.

I forgot to mention that I rooted the AOSiP rom with magisk . I do not know if this is the cause of the problem.

I found the answer. I need to first flash the stock recovery before I can use fastboot to flash another rom!

i wanted to install cm 11 on my xperia arc but it said i have to flash a xperia arc s (lt 18i) ftf file so i flashed it after flashing it i returned to stock ics and superuser was gone also cwm recorvery was gone too after i plugged my phone to flash cmm 11 kernel it was not recognising my device and i don't even know if my device bootloader is unlocked anymore please help .
earlier i was on cm10
if you bothered to read you will lose superuser and recovery by flashing a stock ftf file, but your bootloader status remains.
and how do you try to flash the kernel? flashtool? command line?

Find it out, otherwise we can't help.
You say you used CM10. If you were able to use it properly and you didn't lock bootloader meanwhile, then it should still be unlocked.
Now, let's start from the beginning. Which OS is on your PC? Did you install fastboot drivers from Flashtool?

Flash error ?

I wanted to flash MMB29M version downloaded from google factory images official web site, before it comes OTA...
I am using the script "flash-all.bat" and i had this error message while flashing bootloader (same error if i do this step manually) :
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-bullhead-bhz10k.img
FAILED (remote: device is locked. Cannot flash images)
It is not the first time i flash a rom on a Nexus device, i did that many times on my N4 and my N6, and both were locked and not rooted like my N5X.
With the same process... And I have never had such this error.
So why do I have this error ? What can i do ?

From my reading of Heisenburg's guide in the general section, you need to have your bootloader unlocked before you can flash a factory image. Allow "OEM Unlock" in Developer Options then try again.

No other choice than erasing my data so...
Thanks for your answer.

#1 thing you do when you buy a phone with an unlockable bootloader: unlock it.
You can always wait for the OTA.
You can sideload an OTA update package from stock recovery if you have a locked bootloader, but to flash the partition images using fastboot you absolutely must have an unlocked bootloader.

sideload failed

i was rooted with twrp custom recovery installed. i wanted to unroot my phone so i flash the recovery and locked he bootloader again and now im trying to sideload the latest oos to my phone but it keeps failing. everytime i plug my device in i get a popup saying to insatll device drivers and when i let it do it abd its successful i still get a sideload failed error. what am i doing wrong?

Have you unlocked the bootloader yet? Do you get a success/failure when you try to flash using fastboot? Do you have twrp.img in the same folder as fastboot.exe?

Sounds like you need to update the fastboot drivers. While the device is in fastboot, go to device manager and look for an unknown device that is probably your phone. You'll need to update the drivers to have it show Android Bootloader Interface.

Question Flashing the stock rom and locking the bootloader

I unlocked the bootloader of my POCO F3 and installed both LineageOS 18.1 and Lineage's recovery, but now I need to send the phone back to Xiaomi and I can't return a device that has been tampered with. For this reason I need to flash the EEA ROM (the EU ROM) that came with the device, flash the original recovery (I'm not sure if this will be done automatically when I flash the EEA ROM) and lock the bootloader. I found this guide on how to flash the stock ROM but I haven't found how to lock the bootloader. Is there any way to do it?

Assuming you'll be using miflash to flash stock firmware, just leave 'clean all and lock' checked (bottom right corner of miflash). That'll lock the bootloader again. Failing that, use cmd - see link
lock bootloader

I've read many reports that this option on MiFlash bricks the device. Use command line after a successful boot
