Hi,
Even after I fell into some water with my phone in my pocket (dumb, I know), after a day of drying out, the phone came back to life and seems to work fine - except.... it won't charge when the phone is turned on. If I leave the phone off, it charges. Turn it on (recovery mode or regular mode), and it won't charge. Anyone have any ideas if this is fixable? Should I replace the small PC board with the USB port on it? Or replace the phone?
Thanks!
I think the phone will not be replaced as it is water damaged

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone with experience repairing a Nexus 7 2013 could help with my issue. The charging port had loosened to the point of being useless, so I bought a replacement board (straight from Asus). I replaced the board, turned it on and it worked 100%. I left it charging, and a few hours later turned it back on, and now the touchscreen wasn't working. I believe that one of the flex cables which plug into this board connects the touchscreen, so in theory I could get that working. But when I went to tackle it a few days later, the tablet won't turn on. It appears to he completely dead - there's no response from my laptop when I try to connect it via USB (ie no device is detected). I haven't touched anything beyond the bottom board (although I did reseat the display cable at one point thinking it could be a display issue). I have tried bending the charging port back into shape on the original board and using that - no change to my issue. I am at a loss, and I don't want to disassemble the rest of the tablet for no reason - any ideas?

It could be something as simple as a discharged battery. Let's take one step at a time. When you use the Qi to charge it, does anything show on the screen? Some people have reported the tab to be stuck at the Google logo after letting it discharge completely. Being totally dead is different. The tab uses current from the battery only, so if it's at 0%, you might need to wait for 1/2 hour or so before you can boot it up.
A while back, after sweating profusely into my phone during a workout session, my gnex started behaving badly when I wanted to charge it. Needless to say I've got a battery app installed that is able to detect the plugin state (whether the phone is on battery, whether the charger is plugged in or whether it's just a usb connection such as a computer) and actual % voltage the thing has in the status bar. The app itself is: Battery by MacroPinch.
Well I figured the usb port was probably going so I got a new one of those (i.e. flex cable microusb etc.) for my sch-i515. I also decided to get a new battery just in case... so I replaced the battery (it's an oem samsung one) and fwiw, the thing stabilized its behavior! I've since swapped them back and forth with no apparent issues. However, I took my phone out with me on a run and it started acting flakey again. I've (in the past) had to clean out the port with a toothpick, I've had to on occasion bend the flap in there, do battery pulls (which believe it or not worked for a while), and so on. This time however was different. The phone wouldn't wake when I plugged in or unplugged the charger... and in no way shape or form would the charge indicator come on (you know, lightning bolt in the batter icon etc.) and to make matters even worse this time, my laptop simply didn't recognize the phone was plugged in. So I bit the bullet and and did the surgery and replaced the usb board and mic.
It could not have gone more smoothly, unfortunately (as might have guessed) all is not well... so now:
if the screen is dark -
the phone will wake when the charger is plugged in
the phone will wake when the charger gets unplugged
Using a moto droid cable (from my og droid)
the phone/computer realize they are plugged in together and Wug's NRT works and so on.
BUT the battery STILL won't charge.
I guess the phone is a couple of years old and it doesn't really owe me anything (I guess) but I'd really like this thing working better until I can get a new one. Does anybody out there have any ideas on what I might have missed? The phone works as before, exactly fine except it won't chare so I'm pretty sure I managed to get all the connectors back together properly... I suppose the usb port I replaced the original with might be defective but....
Any help is greatly appreciated...
Oh I'm rooted but stock, android 4.2.2
No advice at all??
I WOULD have said bad usb port, MAYBE try another? They are cheap enough, mine has been broken forever and I do not want to take device apart to change it because crack in my screen I'm worried will get worse if I take device apart.
so since its impossible for me to charge battery in device, I'm NOT worried about THAT tho, BECAUSE a LONG while back I had purchased 2 extra OEM batteries, PLUS a OEM samsung EXTERNAL CHARGER/stand which ALSO came with a battery. so I NOW have 4 total batteries, and I charge them up in the external charger, then just swap them out as needed.
which honestly is GREAT, cuz if I'm going out all day, I can just bring my extra fully charged batteries with me, and not have to worry about battery drain from heavy use cuz I have 3 other fully charged ones WITH me.
that's really all I can say, if you would like help finding the exact external charger that comes with a battery as well let me know, I had bought mine on amazon couple YEARS ago for only like 25-30$ BRAND NEW, I'm guessing TODAY that price would be like ten bucks
Thanks... that may be the way to go but I use this thing for my gps... but the thing doesnt get power when plugged in at all it seems (I plug it in, pull the battery and it does not stay on) so far I've been using my wife's gnex to charge my main and spare... but like I said the thing is, the phone doesn't even stay on when plugged in and I pull the battery (hers does so I'm thinking that there may be something deeper in that's failed here). I cracked the thing back open last weekend to make sure all the connectors were engaged, but I did not find any issues with them past that point.
Does anyone know if there is a hidden connecter somewhere in there that i could possibly have accidentally unhooked that prevents input power from reaching the guts of this thing?
OK it's getting crazier all the time...
Since my gnex was "working" except for charging (also, the phone would not stay powered on with the usb plugged in and the battery removed) I decided to go for a long run yesterday... I take the phone with me for music, tracking and general "safety". About half-way through my run, I look at the window in the neoprene armband I'm using and it looks like a sauna... the bluetooth cuts out on me... so I pull the phone out and with a minimum of fiddling I get the music back on... regarding the charging issue ... I was using my wife's gnex to charge my two oem batteries.
Well after this run, I try and use voice to text in a text message after I got home... well guess what... the phone records NOTHING. It's like I'm not talking. So I try a few phone calls... the display shows the call in progress, but I hear nothing! So I use my land-line to call the phone... NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING.
I had previously replaced the usb port, so I took out the tools and disassembled the phone. there was some moisture in there... anyway I dry it out as best I can and reassemble. Now I plug in the headphones, and guess what... I make calls... i.e. the damn phone works as a phone. I pull the jack out and nothing. I turn on speaker mode ... I can hear the phone ringing when I place a call... turn off speaker nothing. Bluetooth works with the phone fine, and the volume control for multimedia makes no sound when I toggle it...
Fast forward to today. I disassemble it again thinking I might have not reconnected one of the straps... I disconnect the volume rocker connector and the usb port connecter plus I remove and re install the antenna housing.
NOW the phone CHARGES but no lightning bolt indicator in the battery... but the battery level is CLEARLY increasing! Also when I plug into a laptop, the usb debugging symbol comes on (since I have it enabled) but when I unplug it does NOT go away... I unplug, disable usb debugging it goes away... reenable usb debugging and the symbol comes back without the phone plugged in until reboot.... but now the phone WORKS again as a phone!
so now the phone:
charges but without any visual indication (other than the % reporting of the battery widget I use)
phone recognized by my laptop (which wasnt' working either until I reset some of the connectors today), but unplugging doesn't make usb debugging indicator in status bar go away.
Phone speaker and mic now working without having to use bluetooth, plug-in headphones or speaker phone. (mic was not working with speakerphone turned)
This is just too messed up. My sweat does carry a lot of salt.... and Im wondering if I managed to shake something loose... I did also pry the usb tab up a bit as well...
Is there some way... some fluid I can dunk the phone into, which might clean the thing without destroying it?
My galaxy nexus after some drops not charging.
It can only work only when i have connected with my laptop, charger.
I think usb port is ok.
I must buy a charging port to make that work?
So my wife dropped her stock gt-n7100 on the floor last night. The screen stopped working, but she didn't say anything to me about it.
Today it won't power on, connecting it to the charger does nothing, when I connect it via USB it is not detected by my computer.
I don't care about the phone, but I would really like the photos off of the phone (yes I am kicking myself now for not backing them up). What could I try? I have tried charging it, switching on without the battery in it, I have reseated the usb connector on the main board. Nothing is happening.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what I could do? Has anyone paid to have a device in such a state revived?
Thanks

Bro in this cases most emmc ic damage.
For this problem you need emmc repair tool if emmc condition is good.
hey y'all, working on my aunt's 5x. They just bought a house so she was hoping I could fix it by just changing the battery. The symptoms she complained about was just not being able to take it off the charger long enough to actually use it as a phone. When I got the phone, even plugged into the outlet it would not turn on. she ordered a battery so I replaced it in the phone still didn't turn on. I tried plugging it in, nothing. I took it apart again and make sure I plugged everything back in, which the only thing I unplugged was the battery, but it was all plugged in still wouldn't turn on. So I assume this is a hardware issue. Thoughts? Is it worth trying to pick up parts or since the phone is so old is it just easier to get another phone?
You might want to consider one of 2 things:
1. Your new battery might be deffective (possible but unlikely)
2. Your phone has some sort of other hardware problem (the famous BLOD can sometimes manyfest itself by outright killing a phone without showing any splash screen)
Can you try to connect it to a pc and tell me what shows up in device manager?
Hello everyone,
I have a major issue regarding battery.
Here is a rundown of what has happened.
1. There was moisture detected at first by the sensor and there was in fact moisture there after I plugged in my usb charger in and saw water around the usb-c connector. This was due to humidity most likely as I live in NJ.
2. I cleaned it out with a cue tip at first and nothing changed. Plugged my usb charger back in to see if water was around it which it was not obviously.
3. Left my phone on overnight and then the Icon went away but, I could not charge my phone anymore despite their being no notification showing me that the phone was incapable of being charged because of "x" reason. I also made sure to use a shop vacuum to remove any other residue inside the phone.
4. Turned my phone off and then I was finally able to charge it.
5. Turned it back on and then the issue I have now is happening along with the fact, when I use my charger that came with the phone, I get a notification that I should use the charger that came with phone if I want it to charge faster....
Not only that but, to get it to charge occassionally I had to turn airplane mode on and THEN it would charge. This is spotty because it works sometimes, sometimes it doesn't.
Today I hit a breakthrough. After doing a factory reset (that literally did not change anything at all. Same problem, despite everyone at reddit suggesting a factory reset) I loaded my back up file that I created before the factory reset and *poof* the issues described above vanished.
However. When I put my phone into airplane mode and turned it off (tried to mimic the most successful variables that allowed me to use the phone without issue) and then plugged a my usb cable in, it charged no problem. Then when I turned the phone back on, the evil bleeping and screen dimmer of death came back on.
I am not up for a loaner phone and I can not wait 2 weeks for a new phone seeing as I work and people are always calling me.
Recommendations?
What do I do if no one responds?
Bump?
Not sure what else you can do. Sounds like the port got shorted out partially. I suggest grabbing a Qi charger and going that route in the interim, that should work without issue, unless the circuit on the board is the issue and not the USB port. I assume you are using a different chable/charger than the one that was wet?

Try leaving your phone all night in Rice. The rice absorbs moisture from the phones when they fall into the water.
