Can't delete system program (Chrome) after updating to Android 10 - OnePlus 5T Questions & Answers

I updated to stable Android 10 and found an issue with Chrome - it has update available but it doesn't do anything when you click "update" in GPlay.
I tried to delete it with Titanium Backup, which I usually use, but it says "can't find .apk", so it can't delete it. I tried Solid Explorer, I'm deleting Chrome, at first time it says "ok, I successfully deleted it" but Chrome reappears. On second/third try it says "error".
Chrome is still working, it didn't go anywhere. Device is rooted properly.
Same issue with other programs (Google Play Music and others). If my System partition is read-only, then how does it save settings of phone and other apps? How can I make it work properly?

Wait, it's not the search

There's a magisk module called Terminal Debloater. It will allow you to convert Android 10 system apps to user apps, then they can be deleted or at least frozen.

Another option is to try xXx No Limits magisk rom, which will allow you to debloat as well.

Also had that problem, because system is read-only in Q. Deleting system apps in TWRP works, you have full write access in TWRP.
Be aware that deleting chrome can cause problems with webview. Also had that once although i selected android system webview. Still some apps crashed after deleting chrome. After re-selecting android system webview everything was fine again.

Ok, found out working solution. There's Magisk module called Debloater.
Using any terminal do:
su

debloat
Click to collapse
Then using menu find out the programs that stuck. In my case they were at System and System Product App sections. Select each one (can select multiple at a time), let it do a thing. Then you can reboot and now you can delete these debloated programs as regular non-system ones.

Pls let someone explain!

I wonder why some apps require access to gps/my location and phone calls although they are not supposed to be in need of them, for instance some games like toss-it etc. Internet access may be required because of ads, and system tools for using the accelerometer sensor. That's it!
Really appreciate a reasonable, concrete response to this query as I principally refuse such apps as soon as I see such irrelevant demand on access although actually want to get them.

I doubt that anyone can give you a definitive answer on this one, because it is going to be application dependent.
The whole point is that when you install an application, you review the list of permissions that it is requesting and then make a judgement as to whether you deem these to be acceptable or not. For example, if I were to download an application a video player, I wouldn't generally expect it to require location information and/or involve services that cost me money (e.g. sending SMS's), so I would refuse permissions for that app.

Dave
Google or we -users/customers/cunsomers or whatever you may call- should request developers/sellers to specify why the particular app requires such accesses. They must include some clarifying statements in descriptions.
Personally I think I have right to know that, so that -more or less- we can keep us away from malicious softwares.

Given that you can install applications from a non-Market source, this would be impossible to police for the most part. It could be implemented within the Market, but since you can submit apps to the Market without peer review, anyone submitting an application could post gibberish or blatant lies instead of clear statements.
Apple get around this by forcing all applications to undergo peer review, but then you only get to see the saccharin sweet Apple view of the world. Unfortunately, the threat of malware is the price you pay for an open system.

Dave

Received a bunch of Lookout Detected Threats

I'm running MOAR v6.0 MD4 (Android 4.1.2) on Sprint GS3. I never received any alerts from Lookout before but today it report 15 riskware alerts:
com.android.phone
com.mythtrandyr.inkeffectsettings
com.lidroid.settings
com.sonyericsson.lockscreen.uxpnxt
com.jy.iconchanger.ad
de.robv.android.xposed.mods.appsettings

com.monotype.android.font.XDAFONTS

de.robv.android.xposed.installer
com.android.flashblink
com.sec.android.mimage.photoretouching
com.koo.lightmanager
com.android.lmt
com.lidroid.sgs.secretcode
All have a classification of: Riskware.Android.CompromisedKey.a.
Should I alarmed or this is likely a problem with definition update from Lookout?
Great support from the Lookout guys as I emailed them and they replied right away, here's what they said. I should be okay:
The reason we have flagged this app is as 'Riskware' is due to a special key that this particular developer used when publishing the app. The key is normally a private piece of information that we use to determine if an app is authentic, and to identify the developer. In this particular situation, the developer chose to use a key that has been widely distributed on the internet or has been compromised.
This makes it impossible for us to validate the app and its authenticity. Therefore, we are not calling these apps malware, but we recommend that users not install apps like this because it is inherently more risky (hence the "Riskware" assessment).
If you as a user understands the risk and still decide to trust the app, feel free to ignore the warning.
We have also been seeing some device manufacturer, preinstalled apps also being flagged as 'Riskware' for the same reason. These apps are unable to be uninstalled and we please ask that you ignore the warning if it is an app that came preinstalled on the device. We have reached out to these developers to make the proper changes.
Thanks for using Lookout!

What effect will this have on CM builds because they are using public available keys (https://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_build/tree/gingerbread/target/product/security) to sign ?

[Q] Need for Antivirus/malware/spyware??

Since I am new I have spent the last few hours reading posts on the XDA site so that once I make my post hopefully I won't get attacked with "that information is/was listed on" or "I've already posted that" or "you should read previous information before posting". I'm sure you get the idea. Anyway, I can't find any consensus on having virus/malware/spyware/adware installed on the Note 2014 or Galaxy SIII. Even amongst senior moderators. I've ready the links some have attached to their emails and still no consensus. Do mobile devices need them or is it just "scare tactics" as one article referred to them as. Forgive me for saying this and no name calling please, but I come from a long line of BlackBerry devices before switching to android. I haven't switched my contacts and calendars over to my tablet or phone yet because BB was known for its security protections. I didn't have to give apps half as many permissions as I do in the play store and the app would still work!
Also please help me understand how you can tell if an app from the play store is a "safe" app or not? I can't base it on names I know since as most of you probably already know BB didn't have a great app selection and didn't support android unless you rooted your tablet.
Can I get some feedback from a moderator please.
to know if any app is safe or not is reading permission list before install it...
and as far as i know there is no reason to install antivirus in android device... it wil make your device very slow...
What are some of the things to look out for when apps ask for permissions?
Well there are different things. A game does not need to read your contacs, nor your gps. But most android apps are using more permissions as they would need. My advice is : download only the apps you need and not every junk...
Gesendet von meinem GT-I9505 mit Tapatalk
Any app that has been in the playstore for a reasonable amount of time, has a reasonable amount of downloads and you guess it reasonable rating will be perfectly safe.
Obviously people will have different thoughts as to what reasonable is but if you're new to Android. Google best Android apps for doing "This" and you'll get heaps of suggested apps that have been tried and tested and are perfectly safe.
Do that and no you won't need antivirus but follow the same rules you wouldd with a PC..... opening links in dodgy email etc.
You shouldn't have any problems browsing the web either, even with "unknown sources" ticked you still have to give the app permission to install.
Also this tablet has a fair amount of resources available, if it was going to put your mind at ease I don't think getting an antivirus app like AVG (most recommended I think) is going to have a noticeable or at least only minimal effect on performance.

Root access

Ok after i had some bugs, with the Android Revolution hd 34.0.
Like, can't download content from apps like Zedge, can't download photos that i received from Whatsapp. Couldn't take screenshot and connect my phone to computer to transfer media, or use Airdroid to transfer via WI-FI.
So, i checked out CM12 that i didn't liked at all. I love htc sense.. So, i gave it another try, wipe again and flashed Android Revolution hd once again but this time, i choose all tweaks.
And now everything works fine!
I can use Airdroid to transfer media, my computer recognize my phone, i can download content from Zedge ,can receive photos and video and download them from Whatsapp and i can take a screenshot.
I say all this to people that has same problem like i had and didn't know what to do.
Now i have only one problem so far, when i install freedom and sb game hacker, with freedom it's says something with don't support your device version.
With sb game hacker, it's ask for root access when i click grant it's says failed and quit the app. With greenify the root access works fine, and the root checker shows i have root.
