Redmi Note 8 Global version - Redmi Note 8 Questions & Answers

I'm used to rooting Samsung phones.
I finally unlocked the bootloader in my Redmi Note 8 and now looking into rooting it. Some of what I have read worries me. I read that "If your phone is Rooted, then you can not use Banking Apps like Paypal, Payoneer." That was never a problem with any other rooted phone I've had in the past. I also read that it is "easy to brick" in the process.
I haven't found very much consensus on rooting the M1908CJG.
Has this model been rooted by lot of people? Enough to give me some advice or encouragement?

Searches tell me the M1908CJG might be the regular Note 8, not the Pro? Could affect people's answers

You are absolutely correct. My mistake, thank you. I'll edit my post from Note 8 Pro to reflect tho correction. It's important to make the distinction.
It is a Redmi Note 8 "Global" version.

Hi guys, yesterday I burned the screen of my redmi 5 plus, fortunately was in warranty and I will be repaid. The seller offers me this model at the same price:http://www.grossoshop.net/it/xiaomi-redmi-note-5-versione-internazionale-3-32gb-nero.html that I personally do not know I would like to know if there is a TWRP recovery and if the development is active for this terminal. Should I accept the proposal?

For me, you can go for it because it's really a good device with superb specs. There is already a TWRP for Redmi Note 5 (you can find it in ROMs/TWRP section) and the development will growth in coming days (there is already customs ROMs like ResurrectionRemix or Lineage 15.1)

Brand New Device BRICKED After Using Official Mi Flash Tool!

Please help! The phone is now bootlooping to Recovery Mode after using the Mi Flash Tool to flash Whyred Global ROM!
I had LineageOS on the phone but I decided I wanted to give MIUI a chance. (not doing well so far)
The bootloader was locked when I flashed the device, that was the default option checked which is an insane thing to do!
I can't unlock the bootloader again because it came unlocked and I never linked my device to my Mi account!
If I try Mi Flash again I get Flash XBL error!
I tried connecting my PC to Mi Suite as the Recovery Mode suggests but the software WILL NOT detect the device!
What should I do? Or am I totally screwed and should I be seeking a refund? I literally got this phone today!!!
I've already tried Googling for an hour or so with no luck.
Help!

There is no reason global version note 5 to came with unlocked bootloader. You probably have china version with global rom.

Xiaomi announced that china device will may be brick while trying flash global ROM:
https://www.xda-developers.com/flash-miui-global-locked-bootloader-xiaomi-brick/
If seller claimed that phone is global try to get refund, global version phone is locked so probably it was china version with global ROM.

Thanks heaps for the info.
The seller did say there was a Global ROM on the phone leading me to believe that it's possible to flash a Global ROM.
After this I think I'm going to go out of my way to avoid Xiaomi and Banggood.
I filed a dispute.

Always buy from official (or just trusted stores, if official sellers aren't available in your Country), i know, they aren't cheap at all (Banggood or Gearbest are cheaper than an official store, but you can have issues like this, China Devices with fake Global ROMs or something like that), i really hope for your refound and good luck, and remember, it's not Xiaomi Fault

Yeah you're right, it's not entirely Xiaomi's fault, but the practice of bricking users' devices when something goes awry is very anti-consumer.
For future reference, is this an official Xiaomi vendor? It's a "Top Brand" on Aliexpress but I'm not sure whether it's genuinely official: https://xiaomionline.aliexpress.com/store/2178148?spm=2114.11010108.103.50.85cf649bBRI4Nr
I was about to buy from here but I found a better deal on Banggood, big mistake!
Thanks for your help, hopefully I can get a refund because I remember the days when I had my Redmi Note 3 Pro and I really did like it.

did you research before flashing..
this is the cause why xiaomi now has a certain timer to unlock bootloader to avoid resellers to flash gobal rom on chinesse phone.. and people like you blaming xiaomi.
by the way need to have bootloader unlocked to flash with miflash tools.

What's wrong with blaming a company that bricked your phone?
You need to stop standing up for giant corporations, they don't need your support.

Sorry to hear that. I will not buy at Banggood I saw some time ago "super offer" RN5 global but in device description no B20, global version without B20 don't exist it simply deception.
I'm not 100% sure if it will work but i think it is worth to try. Your phone may be to recover. You said that it is in bootloop, so it is not hard brick but soft brick, try to enter fastboot and flash by Mi flash tool china ROM and then wait 360 h to unlock and then flash TWRP and custom ROM, not xiaomi global.

Great idea, keep blaming users for simple mistakes that haven't caused catastrophic failure on previous devices. (This wouldn't have happened on my Redmi Note 3 Pro) If your trying to be a toxic poison for the community, you're doing a great job, keep it up! :good:
try detect ur phone using imei. will know sure botloader fake or not.still remember wat rom u have at this device. Fake rom mean cant update.Depend on ur luck. Some unlock global true rom.

all companies changes their policies and rules. see huawei they locked bootlader. lg locked lg g4 except h815 and h811 . rest is locked. they all made changes.

Wow. You are so great....
1st: You've made a mistake by not actually researching, as suggested. This alone could have protected you or, at least, alter your perception of who is REALLY at fault here.
2nd: No software, or even hardware, is error free.
So, if you are expecting that the Mi Flash tool is going to protect you from any mistake you can do, then you are wrong again!
3rd: When someone points out a possible fault of yours, you ought to think about it and, if it's true, correct yourself the best you can.
So, don't throw accusations about an OEM, especially in this case where you used an official tool to do something unsupported, because as you probably guessed it by now, Xiaomi supports only Miui not Lineage and, of course, does not support whatever silly think had the seller already done to your device.
Never the less, I know the pain to have your brand new phone bricked and I hope you will soon find a solution to your problem.
Cheers...

Redmi Note 8T

Hi people,
I have just purchased a variant of the Redmi Note 8, called Redmi Note 8T, which is basically the same device but with the long awaited NFC! This variant just launched in Europe.
In theory should be same device as the RN8 with added NFC (the SoC and other specs are indeed the same) so I wanted to share some info:
- MIUI 10.3.1, Android 9
- Model Name M1908C3XG, the same as shared by a leak on some websites
- The codename of the device is willow, the ROM has in its fingerprint willow_eea which confirms I have an EU version., but the Redmi Note 8 codename is ginkgo.
I have already applied for bootloader unlock (need to wait for a week) so soon I will be able try some things if somebody asks.
I hope modding will start soon
I bought too, but waiting for delivery yet..
Hi, i got the Note 8T too, and i got a little problem.
Does yours have a notification LED? Cause i dont have any working on mine, and It seemed to me that the "normal" Redmi Note 8 has It.
So i wanna ask if is mine broken or if it is a downgrade from Redmi.
Me too..... where is?????
All Note have it... possible note 8t not implemented???
I not found it.....
In reviews on web writes, this model dont have led notification ..
Yeah guys, there is no notification LED on this device, what a bummer.
Redmi Note 8 has a led notification
Redmi Note 8T doesn't have it

Ohhh.sh..t....

Hey, I just ordered the phone too, how is it looking with the dev.?
The first OTA has been released for our device. I've grabbed the URL, it's MIUI 10.3.5.0 and can be installed only if you are on 10.3.1.0 which is the only version (so far)...
https://bigota.d.miui.com/V10.3.5.0....PCXEUXM-V10.3.5.0.PCXEUXM-d79044d785-9.0.zip
The first EEA ROM: https://mirom.ezbox.idv.tw/en/phone/willow/
https://bigota.d.miui.com/V10.3.5.0...EAGlobal_V10.3.5.0.PCXEUXM_e2b2a958aa_9.0.zip
I hope xiaomi.eu will support the 8T. No Miui 11 for now?

Fun fact:
In Camera information, codenames start with ginko. We knew cameras were the same, but that's something more.
Hopefully with just minor modifications, 8 development will work on 8T. I've got 14 days still to wait to unlock though.

Custom Rom?

Can anyone do some developing for Redmi note 8 pro. Because so much peoples are waiting for the roms for this phone?
My understanding at the moment, is that custom ROM development is being prevented on the Redmi Note 8 Pro, because it can get hard-bricked (become completely unusable) MUCH too easily, and the only way to unbrick it, is to use an authorised Xiaomi service account (which very few people have).
This means that, whenever a developer tries to test something they're working on (a custom ROM or custom recovery), if their phone gets hard-bricked while testing, their development completely stops until/if they can get their phone unbricked.
If Xiaomi were to allow all users to unbrick their Redmi Note 8 Pro easily (without needing these authorised Xiaomi service accounts), then I think that custom ROMS would start to come out (I believe the full source code has already been released, which is a prerequisite for custom ROM development).
Other members, please feel free to share your views, and correct me if I'm wrong on the above; what are the chances that Redmi Note 8 Pro owners will be able to easily/quickly unbrick their hard-bricked devices in the future?

true, also mediatek is also to blame, they really aren't that "open-source" compared to other chipset manufacturers. thus preventing custom roms and app ports like a stable gcam port.
