Today my friends, is a sad day, the day my Robin will rest in its box, were he can get its final power off.
Its battery wasn't in good health, I could see it has come to the end of its journey with me. To ease its pain, I installed the least number of apps I could, and kept it somewhere cool, in good conditions. But intempestive reboots were the screams I couldn't handle, it's too painful to see something you love die in your very own hands. I just couldn't help it. So I ordered a new phone, and flashed into my Robin it's original ROM, and used it as the first time I had it.
Today I my new phone arrived, and that's with bitterness I unboxed my new phone. It's a OP8.
This phone was awesome, usually I'm not sentimental about phones, but this time it's different. The Nextbit Robin was such a unique phone, that now I'm nostalgic, even with that fancy new device. It's a goodbye rebels, it's an Adieu.
The Robin community was also very warm and welcoming when I first went to this forum. Thanks everybody.
Were you a good phone? No, I'm told you were the best.

Well guys/gals... thanks to my darling 18 month boy, my old faithful dash got dunked. I took it apart, and dried it out, but the directional keys do not work. After thinking about what I need a phone with (T-mobile), and not wanting to get a full data plan (just stick to the $10 plan). I came across and purchased a Samsung A177 for $65 (Phone price, and unlock code), and sold the air time for $15. It is a pretty decent phone, a good replacement for the dash. Maybe not as intuitive, but wow, have over 75% battery life after it being on for 33 hours! It's rocking along. Opera 4.2 is on it, but some of my normal stuff (like weather) has been substituted for the google text info sms. Anyway, thanks a lot to everyone, I may not have posted much, but man, I have spent alot of time on this forum over the past couple years.
Peace out.
good luck! Enjoy your new phone.
Thanks man. I cannot express enough gratitude for all the help, and thoroughness of everyone on here. It was so great to take a decent phone, and make it all so much better! Take care everyone!
Good luck
Hope u get a HTC again soon as all so pimpable...... and like ya say such a great community...
Hi im new coming over from the sgs2. im just wondering how you guys/girls are taking a liking to your phones. i see some troll threads on here and i just want to see how the gen pop thinks about it. it was this or note 2, i chose the lg because the note is to large for a pocket imo. also iv owned htcs motorolas samsungs all the big guys but never an lg. so im stoked about that and about coming over here with all you fine folks. happy holidays to everyone and i look forward to chatting, helping, and being helped by everyone.
Hi and welcome. It's a great phone. Ignore the trolls

I love the phone so far. I rooted and unlocked so I could remove the few Sprint bloatware apps. Not a lot of movement on the dev front so far, but people are working on it. I expect CM for it some time, if not soon then soon after the JB update is released.
As far as the phone itself, it's fast (duh), the screen is gorgeous, and the default UI is honestly not that bad, especially compared to some others. I came to this from the Evo, and I have a S2 from work, and this is by far the best of the three. Battery life is great for me, except when my job sends me to areas with bad coverage, then it seems to drain faster than the S2. I guess that is my one real complaint, but we'll see how bad the drain is once custom kernels become a little more stable. You'll love this phone.
very cool thanks for the response. im so excited about this and i hear the next nexus is going to be and lg? btw not that it would stop me but how much is rooting and unlocking with an lg? easy or pain in the butt
Rooting phone is easy. I believe someone has an all in one root/unlock but doing both separately is easy too. Just read through development thread and it shouldn't take you long. Right now nothing worth flashing so I haven't unlocked but stock UI with bloatware removed is running smooth for me. So far I love this phone. Nothing seems to slow it down and the screen is gorgeous. Battery life has been better than all my previous phones (OG Evo, GS2) but never lasts as long as you'd like it to. This phone is the Nexus 4 older brother so we should get some AOSP our way sooner or later. Enjoy!
Ah i see you took the blue pill .. welcome to the rabbit hole. This phone is great bro your gonna love it.
cool now i cant wait!! tuesday wont come soon enough. and i like the matrix comment
Did no-one buy this phone or is it too new?
If its the former we need to get a PSA going about how great the phone is so people buy more, if its the latter I suppose we should just wait...
I think it's just because it's relatively new. It only went on sale this week in my country. But hey, if you want to spice things up, go ahead and post something!

Oh the pressure!
It's new and in the US here its only available on one carrier and most people are waiting on the M9 flagship phone. We also don't have s-off so we cant do any fun mods really. Honestly it's a M8 in plastic with water proofing and different cameras so its nothing groundbreaking. I wouldnt expect much out of this fourm

Yes, it's almost M8, so it would be pretty easy to port some M8 ROMs to the EYE, GPE ROM for example. I would do that if I had any tutorials. But I haven't found any.
Im waiting also on some custom rom,but nobody take care till now about this device.I will try to ask Venom team cos they make the best custom roms.

I wouldnt say it's easy by any means especially since most HTC Devs on this site do not own the device and with the different cameras come different drivers it makes things harder.

Yeah I thought the same thing but for the moment in my option, due to the fact that it is an At&t exculsive it will take some time before people outside this carrier obtains it. Unless, you are like me and decided to purchase it unlocked; which is not a bad idea if you ask me. Additionally, since this phone is new and HTC has promised that it will be supporting devices like the M8,Desire EYE and new devices with updates and fixes for the next 2 years I personally will not be bothered with rooting my device. Besides, we are soon due to get Android 5.0 directly from the source so why not wait and enjoy the direct updates from HTC because after 2.5 years we will be on our own.
After 2 years, which I would most likely still have it in excellent order will then decide to root it and add a custom rom on it.
But dont worry, you are not alone in buying this phone. It is an amazing device that in more cases than one is much better,on the same spec stage and cheaper than the M8.
I recently received my desire eye. I won it on HTC elevate though. Awesome program. But I see that it isn't a very popular option. Since I'm on Verizon mine will be used mostly as a WiFi device. I can day that once lollipop gets here you will really like it. Dttw works perfectly

Yes this is an absolutely amazing phone, I had a Moto X, then tried WinMo with the Nokia 930 and then went to thi, its the best phone ive ever owned, brilliant performance, great battery life, awesome connectivity, the only downside could be its physical size, not a problem for a big guy like myself but if you have small hands and small pockets you wont find this phone easy to use.

Hello everyone, i recently lost my phone and i have been doing some research into the phone i will be getting next.
I have been conidering this phone because it looks like it will satisfy almost all my needs (would like an amoled display but i can live without it)
So my question to all you nextbit robin users is: is it worth getting, what are your experiences with it, any big downsides?
i have been looking around the internet and some people said it was a bad phone.
Thanks for your help.
Cheers,
Jim

The cloud only works with Nextbit OS.
It goes for $140 bucks. Can't go wrong at that price. Check it out.
I got it at 180€. It is the best phone available at that price in my opinion unless you wish to import a phone from China and deal with all the hassle.
How good is the camera?
Ok so Nextbit was recently bought by razer. my question is, Will the servers still stay up for the 100 gigs of storage? because if not i dont think ill buy it. i know they will no longer have the warrenty as of february but i really hope they will keep the servers up.
Cheers.
Jim
Edit: made saperate thread because maybe more people will notice
One of the Nextbit devs said the 100 gigs of storage servers will stay up for 1 more year (Feb 2018)
I have Robin and I also have a honor 8. I love the look and feel of the Robin and also love the dual front facing speakers. Plus Robin's OS is almost like stock Android except for the launcher which can be easily changed. The deal breaker is no SD card support I really wish they would have added a SD card support to the Robin and it would be an awesome phone. I don't want to store all my stuff in a cloud storage period. So unfortunately I will be keeping the honor 8 which has one the worst OS I've ever used. But if SD card isn't a big deal get the Robin it's a great phone. Also Robin's notification light is on the bottom next to the charge port which is kinda wired in my opinion.
I purchased this phone a few weeks ago, literally a few days before they were purchased by Razer. I was looking for a backup phone to my Nexus 6p and came across a thread where this phone was mentioned. Needless to say I've been actually using this phone more than my Nexus 6p. For $160, you really can't beat it. I don't use the cloud storage feature at all though. Main differences between 6p are: camera (6p is better but this one isn't bad), battery life (worse than 6p) , overall speed and updates. I like the unique look of the phone too.
But this phone is on par, if not better than the Nexus 5x, which I owned for a couple weeks before returning to get the 6p.
It really depends on what your expectations is for the phone. If you're coming from and iPhone, expect to be disappointed. If you're coming from a low budget phone, it will likely make you happy. The phone on its own with stock ROM performs very poorly (in my opinion as I'm a tech enthusiast, love high spec'd out Oneplus phones, so I've been spoiled). However, there is a silver lining. There is great support for custom ROMs and kernels for this phone. If you're willing to put in the time and research and work, it can easily perform on par with a $500+ phone. Just my two cents.
So i got the phone and after a week the top speaker stopped working. it sucks but i sent it back today and will be expecting a replacement soon. i really hope this one works this time.
I had a OP3 and loved it. Waited for the Pixel2 XL and was unhappy to see that the screen wasn't that great on a $950 phone, not to mention I had wonky BT issues, etc... so I returned it.
I went with an Essential and while the phone is amazing from a hardware and build perspective, the day to day use of it has me on the fence... Running the Oreo beta 1 and now 2 release, it's a little glitchy, and despite numerous camera app updates, the camera is still one of the worst I have used in many years.
Picture quality is merely ok, but options and settings are very limited and the shutter speed is really slow. You press the button and have to wait a second or two for it to take the pic, else you move the camera and it comes out blurry. Some wonkiness with Android Auto and the occasional spontaneous reboot has me rethinking this phone. It's a shame, as it is small, powerful yet packs a nice 5.7" screen, but it's just not impressing me the way that the OP3 did...
So, anyone come off an Essential or have experience with both? Just honest thoughts, not looking to start an Essential vs OP debate. Looking for genuine feedback from those that have used both.
Is the OP5T stable? Any issues I need to keep in mind? How is their Oreo beta release so far?
I remember reading that it can't stream HD video? Does that mean if I use the OP5T to Chromecast netflix to my home theater, that it won't be in HD?
Any real performance difference between the 6GB RAM versions and the 8GB? Both are more than the 4GB on my Essential and most other phones...
Any feedback would be appreciated, thanks!
I had an essential for a few months b4 jumping ship to OnePlus 5t.
The EP felt entirely like a concept phone that just never took off. I didn't care much about the micro stutter because that was abysmal. What annoyed me the most was relearning the A/B partition and if u flashed to the wrong slot, you'll screw yourself over. Flashing anything in twrp took 10x as long.
Aside from the Beautiful build quality, it is incredibly amazing to feel and hold, it falls on ever aspect. The OnePlus 5T does so much better every where else.
Coming from the EP, At first the OnePlus 5t's screen felt hollow when u tap it. But if you think that feels hollow wait until you touch the pixel 2 XL screen that's even worse.

Well, I had the Pixel2 XL and I know what you mean.
I don't flash ROMs any more, haven't in years, no real need. I just need the phone to work properly and I want to USE it, not spend hours a day tweaking and fiddling with it...
So the move to the 5T was the right move, in your opinion?
I went from the OP3 to PH-One as well, and I love the PH-1's hardware (how could u not?). The screen stuttering bothered me, but not as much as the poor signal. So I bought an OP5T from Swappa. $500 for the 8gb/128gb version (no tax). Might as well spring for the highest model, that way u won't have regrets. Both phones are great. OP5T is better, but since Essential is supporting Project Treble, I'm keeping it as a backup because I can't wait to see what the Dev community has in store, should be pretty awesome for phones that support it. As of now though, the OP5T has way stronger development. I switch back & forth between the two phones often, less often now that I'm running Phoenix Rom on the OP5T (best Rom I've tried yet). If u could have a OnePlus phone in the body of a PH1, it would be hands down the best phone ever made. The form factor on the PH1 is just so perfect, maybe just a little too heavy (I thought titanium was supposed to be light!). OP, have u tried running the Resurrection Remix Rom on ur PH1? It's my favorite Rom ever, was running it bug free on the OP3 for a year. It works just as flawlessly on the PH1. I know LOS 15.1 is also available, but I hate how bare bones Lineage Roms are. Really, you can't even put advanced reboot in ur Rom? What's the point of running a custom Rom if it doesn't have more features than stock? Anyway, there's my 2¢. It's really hard to pick one phone over the other, but if I had to, I'd go with the OP5T.

I dunno, I have no interest in ROMs to be honest. If the phone doesn't run right and needs a ROM to work properly, then it's a crappy phone and I don't want it. Unless they want to pay me for my time to fix all their problems by installing a ROM and crap, not interested. haha

That's not really fair. For one there is advanced reboot in some of the 15.1 builds. Second, all 15.1 builds are unofficial tests builds, so of course they are missing features. Third it has always been like this when CM or LOS rolls out a new version they are missing tons of features and they slowly port them them back over. They just get it back up and running on all devices first, then worry about customizations.
This is why I wish someone would build LOS 14 for the 5T. As the 5 already has an official build, so we could get and official build as well. This way we could also get an official LOS build with the privacy manager and such, which may take a while to be ported over into LOSS 15. However so many people are more concerned with running Oreo, that's all they seem to be focused on. However then they also want to complain when there are a lack of features.

I won't buy a device that won't run custom ROMs. For one it gives you a bit more control over your privacy and information. At a minimum, I need a device I can root. Do you have one plus's "phone home service" disabled / removed? How much information do you let google have access to?

Yeah, Barber is a great track. Been to it many times, my friends race on it and my wife did a track day there, but I never made it onto the track. The one day I was supposed to, my Daytona 675 blew a head gasket on the dyno the day before. Doh!
I live one town over from Road A, so that's where I usually go, or to little Tally which is near Barber and usually half the price. But the museum at Barber is absolutely amazing.

No, we met 6 years ago right when she was wanting to learn to ride.. so we got her a Ninja 250 and she got bored with it in 4 months and stepped up to a 600 and did her first track day... then she went to a Monster 1100 EVO, a Streetfighter 848, a Diavel, then a Street Triple R and now the new Street Triple RS 765...
We never argue about bike expenses, or ATV's or guns... she's into all the same stuff. I get a new gun, and she's like, "How come I don't have an AR15?", so then I have to build one for her... haha
