I recently bought a new Nexus 7 (2013) LTE. Works great except the phone/dialer app does not show as an icon. The sim card is fully functional in another phone. In the Nexus it appears to be registering with the carrier and full bars showing. There appear to be three phone related apps installed, just no phone icons available to launch the phone/ dialer. After first getting the tablet it OTA upgraded to android 6.0.1. Was this model not intended to function like a cell phone or is it data only? Perhaps someone can clarify this for me. I am certain there is enough expertise here that might be able to answer my question. Thanks for any help you can provide.

I think there is a LTE model meant for data only

Anyone noticed that the google maps doesn't give the phone number like it does on smaller phones?
Anyone know why? I have a n5110 that is my girls and I have a n5120 and neither one show the phone number of the item we search for in maps.

It is annoying, I wind up doing a split screen and manually inputting the number. On my N5100 (rooted but otherwise stock), the phone number appears, but is not a clickable link like on smartphones. I vaguely remember coming across this on my previous device, a Samsung i815 (100% stock). At the time I wrote it off as ICS knowing the telephony software was removed. But that's clearly not the case with the N5100, so that blows my theory up.
Can we side load a maps apk from an actual phone like the note 3?
Problem solved. When I updated Google Maps, the phone feature is now working.

I see that the 10.1" (and I think 8.9") now have it enabled.
My wife wanted the 7" tablet since she rarely makes voice calls but wants to have the feature, just in case. We don't want Google Voice right now because of lack of MMS support across all carriers. Since we are paying for actual data, I'd like to be able to use the native GSM instead of a VOIP solution.
Any way to make this possible or should I return it for an actual phone?

I have the SM-T217A 7" AT&T Galaxy Tab 3 and also want to know this. Samsung says it has phone capabilities, however there is no stock phone app. I even have my own phone number set up through AT&T and everything, but there is no way to use it. I found an apk called CIQDialer.apk in system\app but it doesn't do anything. Any help would be awesome.
You should check the Play Store, theres should be apps for that.
I use T211, native make phone call, as long as you can insert sim card into your tab3 7.

I'm having issue getting Android Auto to play nicely with the S6. Using the Nexus 5 had no problem at all, but the S6 edge loads AA on the Pioneer 4100nex, then defaults to a black screen with white text stating for me to check my phone when in a safe moment. This is after the initial setup having me to accept all the terms of maps, bluetooth, play music and the like. So I know the phone and the headunit are recognizing each other. I'm curious is the preinstalled "CarMode" app has something to do with it??? Its icon appears on the status bar nearly every time I connect via USB.
Any possible insight would be greatly appreciated.
I'm picking up my 64GB edge this Friday(verizon), and first thing I do when I leave the store is plug it into my 4100. Fingers crossed that it works, but I'll be reporting here with what I find.

I received my GS6 Edge yesterday and I'm having the same issue. It works great with the Note 4. Pioneer had a firmware update to allow for more models of phones. My guess is that they need another firmware update to include the S6.
Reporting back to confirm, having same issue on my Verizon edge. Like mcryans said, probably need an update for the 4100 for better compatibility.
Same here guys
I, too, am experiencing the same issues. I have a Pioneer AVIC-8100NEX and it worked great with my OnePlus One (Oxygen OS). But when hooking up my new S6 Edge (AT&T), it does not work. I spoke to a rep at Samsung and they were not aware of this issue nor even understood what Android Auto even was. The tech was hopeless and a waste of my hour explaining the problem. Hopefully Samsung and Google resolves this soon as many 2015 cars should come with Android Auto support.
I have the AT&T edge and just reporting that the latest Google Play Service update fixed anything wonky between my avh-4100 and my S6 Edge. I'll try voice commands on my way to work but otherwise works like a charm.

This tablet does not have cellphone-functionality. You only can use LTE for data.
Hi
I can't find call and text on other devices on my T-Mobile tab S7+, and phone app missing too.
It was good on my old Tab S6 but can't find anymore on S7....
Thanks
I suspect if you have an S7/S7+ with mobile data, it has its own phone number and what not. As a result, you may not be able to call/text from another device since your device itself has its own number. I may be wrong, but that seems like the logical answer. Have you tried turning mobile data off or somehow disabling it? Maybe take the SIM card out if you can (not sure if it's an ESIM).
If the above statement isn't true, I would say factory reset it if you haven't already. If you still encounter the issue, I'd talk to Samsung/T-Mobile about it. Personally, the ability to call/text from the tablet while my phone is away is a huge selling point for me as I don't have to take out my phone much anymore.
Good luck, and let us know what happens. I'm sure there will be someone else that encounters this issue.
Was your Tab S6 a U.S. carrier version? The U.S. carriers disable not only what you're looking for but the native dialer and MMS as well. I got my Tab S7+ 5G from the EU and it has Call and Text on Other Devices. I'm using it between by Z Fold 2 and Tab S7+. It doesn't affect the Tab S7+'s ability to use it's own phone number; it just adds the option of using either device for calls and MMS.

I might be wrong on this, but the way I understand it is that the feature links the devices via Samsung Cloud. So the only device that needs a number would be the phone. It shouldn't matter whether the other devices have one or not as they should still work independently.
I know this is an old thread, but...
This feature was present on the S6 LTE version, so there should be no reason for it not to be available here. The S7 (non-plus) 5G also has this enabled on T-Mobile, so again - no good reason for the S7+ not to have it.
You are right about the Samsung account - both devices have to be logged into the same account for the feature to work.
The dialer app is present, but not able to be activated.
I have the Samsung tab S7 plus 5G by Verizon. I have a SIM card installed and the representative of Verizon that I talked to told me that it's just for data.
I was very upset. because I encountered the same thing no phone app no text app the Google phone app on Google play is incompatible with my device.
I use Google voice app for Wi-Fi call and texting.

I haven't used Google Voice for a bit but it's it possible to have the calls FROM you to someone else appear to have your phone's number or caller ID?
I fixed this and got it fully working. Here's the thread....
I got Call and Text from other devices working on Tab S7+ 5G (at least on Tmobile)
I got call and text from other devices working on my Tmobile Tab S7+ 5G. It's super easy. All you need to do is install the apk below because apparently, all we were missing was the app. That's literally all I did. WARNING: Just be warned as...
