Change of network from 4G to H+ during games is really annoying as it affects ping. Is there any way to force enable 4G only when playing games?

Yes use joneplus tool from playstore and change phone info settings
Dial *#*#4636#*#* and in phone settings choose LTE only

My pings are terrible when on 3G but they are drastically reduced when it switches over to HSPA. Is there a way to force this? Would be nice to have this feature when using latency critical apps...or tethering for things like Xbox live.
Don't your phone switch over to HSPA when you are downloading?
It should be switching over to HSPA when downloading.
Beamed from my Grouper.

Yes, it does... I was just wondering if there was a way to keep it in this mode even when not downloading. Sometimes it takes it a moment to switch over. And strictly running ping tests doesn't always cause it to switch.

It switches like that to save battery life, haven't heard of a way to force it though.

Ah, yes I figured that was the reason for it. I just remember being able to force 3G in areas when the signal was weak and kept switching to EDGE with my old G1 by using anycut and making a shortcut to "phone info". Tried doing the same again with the Nexus but HSPA isn't an option to pick from. Still only "WCDMA" (3G) or GSM (2G).
If you go to your phone dailer and enter in *#*#4636#*#*, then go to phone information and at the bottom you can select WCDMA only.

Cool, didn't know you could do it that way too...but this was the same thing I was describing above by using anycut. The problem with that is, even by selecting "WCDMA only" it doesn't differentiate 3G from HSPA...it's both.
The tmobile service in my area sucks and it will stay on 4g lte even when I have a very bad connection which drops calls and gives me really bad speeds. Is there an app that will automatically switch lte/gsm/wcdma when the signal is very low so I wont drop calls, waste battery and give me poor dl speeds? Or is there anything else that I can do? Maybe with tasker or a tweak. I would appreciate any type of solution. Thank you.
Is there any thing I can do about this?
On stock Rom go to settings>more networks>mobile networks>network mode.
Pick the one you want. Probably gsm/wcdma auto connect.

Thank you for your reply. I already know about that option. I still want to have access to lte when I have a decent connection. Is there an app or a tasker configuration that if the signal is below a certain level it will switch networks? Also, which network it used to make phone calls? I thought all of them but my friend said phone calls are made on 2g. Thank you!

Is there any solution for this? Also when you are connected to lte are you still making phone calls through 2g? Thanks.
Is this a problem near your home? Can you use wifi calling to help fix the dropped calls? Not sure about how to get the phone to switch from LTE to 4G when the connection is poor. I do it manually right now because my LTE has been acting a little wonky lately where it won't even connect to LTE and leaves my phone in network limbo unless I force it to use 4G. I'd like to see a solution to the LTE - 4G switching too.
Last i recall, there is no tasker or app capable of doing such a thing like switching network preferences. It goes against "policy" per say. But your friend is right about calls being made through 2g. That is how you are able to use data whilst on a phone call. The data is being used through 3G and up, while the call is being used on 2G. now i am not sure about T-Mobile's "HD Voice" calling, that is prolly LTE.
I myself have looked through every single API google has trying to write my own app to change the network preferences and could not find it. There may be an option through root though. Havent found it yet.
Correct.
Calls - 2G
Data - 3G+
TM HD - New LTE Network.

Hi,
In the network menĂ¹ of my unlocked no brand S9+ with Exynos SOC I can't choose to have only 4G and 3G like in LG devices, do You know if there is some secret code or something like that?
My goal is to have the phone only connect to 3G and 4G networks, and never connect to 2G network
Thanks a lot.
I didn't have that option on my S7 and I don't have it either on my S9. It has only 2 options with "only": 3G and 2G.
But I don't miss that, as my goal is having my phone connected to the best available network. For this "LTE/3G/2G (auto connect)" setting works great.

The problem is that once the phone switch to 2G, it will not be possible to return to 3G or 4G unless you close the call, this means worse voice quality and no data connection until you're stuck in 2G.
There is an app called 4G Switcher that I use to set it to UMTS/LTE only. Try it.

You are technically correct, but the chance of that happening - starting a voice call while only in 2G coverage, moving to a 3G/4G area while still speaking and needing data connection while speaking - is a very long shot. Not to mention that if you force 4G/3G and there is only 2G coverage, then you can't make a voice call at all. So between a lesser quality one and not being able to do it, I'll choose the former.
But my opinions are based on my experience, my destinations and the 4G/3G coverage in my country (Romania). There are extremely rare circumstances where there is no 4G/3G coverage here.
I'm using Vodafone Italy, one of the best mobile operator here in Italy, and when I make a long call, i mean longer than 15 minutes, sooner or later it always got stuck on 2G.
So it is a very annoying behavior, and I can't understand why on a LG phone I can exclude 2G and with a Galaxy S9+ I can't.
Any update on this? It is very annoying e.g. when you're calling inside a car to always go and stay stuck in 2G until the end of the conversation, without data connection working
I want to know this too! I always have better 4G reception than 2G but sometimes it gets stuck to 2G.
up, any update about this?

Yea this app works great. But after January 1st I do believe it will not matter. Since they are doing away with anything lower than 4g

I can confirm that even now, if I start a call under 4G and I'm driving, soon it will switch to 2G, no matter what I do, and I'm using Vodafone Italy, one of the best network here.
Is there a way to activate HSPA+ on the A70?
If I have two bars on LTE, then three or more bars on 3g will actually give me more speed. The practical difference is that videos on app such as Instagram, load up really slow, or, if on 3g, load fast and is seamless.
But there's also such a thing as 3G with HSPA+, which is supposed to be faster than regular 3g.
Is there a way to activate this on the Samsung?
Thanks.
Open Settings, go to Connections>Mobile Networks. Tap Network Mode. Select 3G/2G instead of LTE/3G/2G.

That just gives 3G or 2G. I'm looking for HSPA+ 3G.
Well anyway I downloaded an app called HSPA+ Tweaker, and I seem to be getting faster 3G speeds. (7mbps). The "H" often turns into an "H+," which I didn't see before the app.

3G includes hspa+ (h+). and hspa (h) means 3g. I don't recommend using 3rd party apps for such basic things.

When you set your device to 3G from settings, it will automatically switch to H+ depending on what you're doing on the device.
A 3rd party app is not needed for this.
I play a PC game called subspace(competitive 2d spaceships) and my connection constantly downgrades from H+ to 3G causing me to disconnect from the game, I game with my phones mobile data tethered. Been trying to figure it out but no luck, I've downloaded the HSPA+ Optimizer app but it still downgrades to 3g occasionally, even went to service menu on my s20+ but no settings to force it to stay on HSPA+, appreciate any help in getting this sorted out so I stop lagging out
