Dead Nexus 5X! What to do? - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone!
I have a Nexus 5X 16gb, and the storage was almost full all the time. and i was chaging too much roms lately...
I decided to give the phone to my dad, so i installed official 8.1 stock but i didn't locked the bootloader.
After a month my Nexus 5x was dead. no sign of being alive! I tried charging it but it didn't turn on and just showing a red led of bottom speaker.
I put the phone into freezer for 15mins and it almost made it to boot. but it freezed on Google logo and turned off after few secs.
And it just don't respond to power button anymore
but device is recognized by adb
I wanted to know whats the problem?
Is it from mainboard or eMMC or it's just BLOD?
Please answer me if you know anything! Thanks:crying::good:

[Q] Hardware failure?

Hi,
my Gnex is 3 weeks old. When I received it, I unlocked, rooted, and flashed Android Revolution HD 4.0.1 onto it.
All worked perfectly, untill last week. While using it like any other day, it suddenly turned off.
Since then, it never booted again and doesn't show up in device manager. No fastboot, not with nor without battery, no sound when plugging it into the computer,... nothing.
The only thing it does: when I press the power button, the LED flash goes off. And when I plug it in (wall socket or PC), the LED flash keeps blinking, but with less intensity.
I searched the forums, but do not find a similar case. Is there anything I can try, except RMA.
And if I send it back, can they see the phone is rooted, unlocked and flashed? Given that it does not respond in any way?
Thanks!
They'll only be able to tell if they are able to boot the phone up.

Thx king.
Anybody that has another idea before I send my phone away for a couple of weeks?

Phone won't turn on anymore

Hi everyone,
my phone simply won't turn on anymore. It was still working fine yesterday and before I went to sleep I plugged it in the original AC charger like everyday (the phone was on ~50% battery and still working after I plugged it in). But when I tried to wake up to phone in the morning nothing happened. I disconnected the charger and tried to turn on the phone again but still nothing. Then I tried connecting it to my computer but that did not work either. The phone does not show any signs that it is "alive".
I checked the charger and usb port of the phone if their is any visible hardware damage but there wasn't. The phone is only 3 weeks old and was working fine until yesterday. It was running on MDB08M and the bootloader was unlocked so I do not know if I can send it back on warranty.
Anyone here who got the same problem and found a solution?
(sorry for my bad english)
I would try connecting it to the PC and check device manager for any signs of life.
I had a similar problem, the charger died but luckily I had a spare charger

I have tried connecting it to my computer but there is no sign of life.
I guess there is no other choice than sending it back to google with the bootloader unlocked ...
My phone has died almost the same. It started to reboot itself like almost everytime ((( and same with unlocked bootloader.... I had mine for 2 weeks. Now I wonder if its common issue with N5X... Did you send your to repair???
This just occurred on my phone. Working just fine with 80% battery. Started GMaps to get some directions. Hung for a couple of seconds then just turned off. Won't respond to button pushes and won't go into recovery mode either. It's like the phone is dead dead.
All these threads about 5xs dying. I guess I better really start saving for a op3t. ? I've had mine a year and it's been fine but from what I've gathered from reading, someone said that's when they usually bite it is a year+... ?

Not sure if it has anything to do with it or not but I never leave mine plugged in all night. I zap it an hour and roll out... Always scared it would melt for some reason..lol

LG Nexus 5X dead after sudden freeze

My Nexus 5x (bought 6 months ago) turned off unexpectedly while I was using it.
I was reading an email, when the screen suddenly stopped updating. It was totally unresponsive, no video (unless that I was seeing before the freeze) and no sound. I didn't have a way to bring it back.
After some seconds the screen turned off. I tried to turn the phone on, but I wasn't lucky. It didn't react to power button, usb, power cable, volume buttons combos, nothing. No vibration or sound.
I thought the phone was still on, so I disassembled it, I removed the back cover and the things that prevent the battery to be removed. I didn't removed the battery, but I detached the small cable that connected the battery and the phone, and then I attached it again. I reassembled it.
Then, still no results.
Can someone please help me? I'm using an IPhone 4s now (which I bought for 15€), and I feel such an horrible person...
Try plugging it into the wall charger for about 30 minutes then use the 3-button combo to get into the bootloader. I thought my 5X died one time but it eventually responded to my attempts to turn it back on after a time.
Same issue here, its 99% dead, no vibration, no led light, nothing on screen....
It happen to me while flashing stock rom via fastboot, it rebooted once and droped dead on me.
I opened the phone and did the same thing with the battery, and.. the same , nothing.
It gets detected by my PC, but i cant use the LGUP tool to flash the tot file, LGUP says "model unknown"...
Trying now with QFIL, but i need to find all the needed files..
By the way, it gets auto-detected as Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 on my PC, it charges(gets warm).. but no life out of it yet.
I charged it all the night, and the combo didn't work (I tried just 10 minutes ago)...
I'll try using that tools, but I think it won't be recognized at all. Mine doesn't become hot when I charge it...
On which android version are you guys?
7.0.1 stable, I think
i was on 7.0.0 (NBD90W, Oct 2016)
Same thing happened to me. I am going to try sideloading an earlier OTA update through ADB. I will let you know the outcome.
I sent the device to the LG support, hopefully I'll have it back in janurary
Im going to send it for repair too, i have lost my receipt for it, but i got a copy, and now can ask a repair
same here.

My Nexus 5X is completely bricked. Like 100% bricked... What to do?!

Hello, I'm new to the forum and I may need your help for a problem I've had today. I've been an happy owner of a Nexus 5X until this morning, when I was regularly using it while on charge and at one point it freezed for a few seconds with the screen still on. I pushed the standby button, the screen went off and from then on it was completely bricked. No signs of life, nor access to recovery mode via bootloader. Nothing. Already tried all the possible physical buttons combos, nothing.
It was on Android 8.1 (beta, very happy about that by the way), no root and with locked bootloader. I did some flashing experiments one year ago but in the end I reverted it back to totally stock and I haven't had issues ever since. Never had bootloops or similar problems, it just happened all of a sudden.
Hope to receive your help, by the way it should still be under warranty, so let's see...
Thanks for your help.
Same problem heare. I tried to install the factory image but now, the phone is completely death.
I beleve thet it was a android 8.1 issue because it was not a bootloop problem.
Same problem heare. 8.1 need a reboot but now, the phone is completely death
It might be an 8.1 issue then. By the way, being under warranty I sent it to customer assistance. I've had some signals of life before this morning though. The LED was flashing red indicating very low battery. I connected it to the charger and followed the instructions by Google themselves:
"If you see a red light, your battery is fully discharged. If the red light is flashing, there isn't enough power to turn on. Charge your phone for at least 30 minutes before restarting".
This seemed to resemble my case, so I waited for about 40 minutes (by that time the charging battery icon did show up with the phone still off) and tried to turn on. The only thing that I got has been the Google logo before the boot animation for a few seconds. Then the screen has gone off again and back to death.
From your comments it seems it might be an 8.1 related issue. Watching videos on Youtube about 5Xes with similar behaviours I was actually thinking about a motherboard failure, or a battery failure (the latter is more unlikely though). Disassembling and heating up the motherboard providing a temperature shock seemed to be a decent temporary solution to bring it back to life. I have warranty though so I sent it to assistance, we'll see... I'll probably unenroll my phone from the beta program just to stay safe.
Thanks for your answers.
My nexus 5x had same issue. A few weeks after 8.1, it totally bricked. I was able to get bootloader on once, but it was locked and fastboot didn't see it. Then after i let it discharge, I haven't been able to get it to recharge or get to boot screen at all. I bought another nexus 5x, but bit worried that 8.1 will kill it.

Hold the power button by itself for 15-20 seconds -- otherwise it's dead--may try to replace battery as battery may be bad
I dont think its the battery since it was charged when it went off, is there is a possibility that it is a software issue
Try to leave the phone charging for several hours and try to power it on (hold the power button for at least 20 seconds)
If it doesn't work just reach out Google for a solution
Same thing happened to one of my Pixel XL phones today too. Randomly turned off, and now it's off for good and I can't get it back.
Tried charging overnight, tried holding power, holding power+volume down. Nothing works. There's no vibrate, no LED nothing. It's just 100% dead.
Mine die too. Was working, then it crash and won't boot, it will reboot endlessly. Flashed both official and Android P. Same thing until permanent dead. Relock the bootloader, no boot still. Put it in the fridge. Turned on. Then die again rebooting. This is my second google phone that dies unexpectedly, nexus 5 when from working to endless reboot and this pixelxl now. Have a nexus 6p that had to exchange two times for camera and call problems. Sold the last one. The only google phone still standing is the nexus 6 that has my mother still use daily.
My best friend had nexus because of me and both die. Nexus 5 when from working to sudden death, nexus 5x working to sudden death. His were not even rooted or bootloader unlock.
Google sucks at phone quality. And I have blamed LG all this time.
Samsung first Galaxy S still working today. Samsung S3 and S4 never die on me and people I gave them too. Note 8 working like a champ.
This is Google own doing, too much to be just coincidence.
