Hi All,
Apologies if I am asking the same question others have in the past I am just wanting to make certain I am following the correct steps.
My Zenfone has an unlocked bootloader, SSJs TWRP and is rooted with the SuperZen R15 firmware.
I am wanting to return to stock recovery and stock unrooted system. Can I just ADB sideload the latest ASUS firmware via TWRPs advanced option or are there other steps I need to take first? Do I need to unroot this firmware first or will the sideload sort all of that out for me?
Hope my question makes sense!
Thanks everyone!
Hi again everyone.
I just tried and the process was successful. For anyone interested I followed the following steps.
1. Unroot via SuperSU
2. Fastboot flash recovery, boot and droidboot images
3. ADB sideload full rom from Asus website using stock recovery
All of these steps have instructions or tutorials on this site and others.
Hope this helps anyone looking for this info.
Where can I get the recovery, boot, and droidboot images?

Same steps for cm12? I just want to get back to stock i'm sick of playing around with a alpha firmware at the moment. I've already wasted a good portion of my day off. Will this get rid of white boot screen
Yeah maybe, you can always try.
I don't think it will remove the white boot screen, you would have to flash the black one before removing TWRP.
How to go back in default asus firmware no root ? When I restore my phone it's always have an supersu
I found out that I flashed pre-rooted image how to escape in that situation. It's too hard too update my firmware and I cant do adb sideload so far, my device detect but it's always error help me guys !
Thanks in advance!:good:
Hello,
I flashed a stock rom for my zenfone 2 Z00A without any problem but because I have installed TWRP on my phone to test out cm12.1 and cm13 I can no longer do the OTA as they come in. I have searched through the forums and have tried to edit the OTA file as described but it always errors and won't install. I did a backup when I first installed TWRP, if I use that recovery file will it bring back my phone to stock or will I still have TWRP? If i will is there a way to remove TWRP and go back to the stock recovery so I can install the OTA's the normal way?
Thank you,
David
use fastboot to install the stock recovery

Or edit ota to be compatible with TWRP. It's a 30 second procedure.
Thank you, after searching I finally found on asus's own blog a post that had the link to the proper recovery.IMG file. Thank you both for the help. David

Hi David. Can you supply the link to the stock rom that you used and the recovery image please?Did you flash anything else besides these two?
Hello,
What I did was;
1) download the latest full firmware from this site http://www.asus-znfone.com/2016/01/full-firmware-zenfone-2-ze551ml-V2.20.40.160.html and installed it using twrp as I would any custom rom.
2) After I went through all the set up I was alerted to a system update. Before I did the update I replaced TWRP with the restore.img from this link
https://mega.nz/#F!k4MHiAgL!dVuOKeH3eokcwPSNI79ffw!Z1N1EbKa using fastboot flash recovery recovery.img command.
3) After rebooting it is possible to do all the OTA updates.
Hope this helps. David Waldie

My HTC One M8 has unlocked bootloader but is on 'stock' Android 5.0.1. I would like to upgrade to Marshmallow and I think that flashing a custom ROM that is as clean as possible would be easier than re locking my bootloader, flashing stock recovery etc.
Can someone please link me to said ROM if it does exist ? (Android Revolution is Android 6.0 based but it is tweaked a lot)
Thanks
First you got to apply the stock OTA as it includes a MM firmware as well. This is needed to run every single Marshmallow Custom ROM that can be found on this forum.

I cannot run the OTA as I have rooted the phone in the past and have unlocked bootloader and flashed a custom recovery.
Though the easiest way is to find a clean rom and flash it on my custom recovery. Would it work?
Thanks!
First answer to second question: no, as - as I wrote in my last answer - a Marshmallow firmware ist needed.
You got to revert to stock by restoring a stock backup containing a clean, untouched system partition. After restoring you could first flash untouched system partition using fastboot commands and after this the stock recovery. Both the Recovery and the backup have to fit your CID and MID of course.
A detailed guide of how to proceed can be found on this forum using the search.
If done so you could relock the bootloader, update to stock MM, unlock bootloader again, flash custom recovery and flash a custom MM ROM of your liking.

Maybe I can be of help a little bit more. You'll find a lot of backups in this thread, which also includes links to other stock backup threads.
The guide of how to revert back to stock via RUU can be found here an how to do it via TWRP backup (as would be in your case), can be found here.

Hey man, thank you for the links! I have just had time to do the procedure following the instructions on the links you shared with. I have just installed 6.0.0, I hope it's worth the few hours spent on the task
I can't wait for the HTC nexus phone...I know that I am done rooting and installing custom ROMS. It was fun..6 years ago haha
"Android is upgrading" so it should be ok I guess..
Thanks again !
Help. How can I go back to stock rom if im using custom rom right now with magisk and custom kernel. Can someone teach me the process of what needs to remove before flashing the stock rom. Do I need to remove the custom kernel that I installed, magisk and twrp? Sorry for bad english. Help will be appreciated
You dont need remove nothing
Only download XiaoMiFlash, download a stock rom https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2-lite/how-to/ota-v9-6-4-0-odlmiff-t3823913 (Fastboot) and unzip the file, Off the device and restart in bootloader, connect to pc and flash the rom
That´s all
Best practices should be followed - always backup your settings, data, photos & documents, anything else you do NOT want to risk losing with the partitions being possibly wiped clean with a fresh stock installation - a) onto a formatted mSD card and/or b) onto a PC's stoarge/data drive(s) ... just in case.
Then, you can dirty flash stock rom without wiping data; or, for best results, wipe it for a clean, fresh install (then, restore save data once it is rebooted & running smoothly, settled down)
I guess, being lucky, running stock Pie roms, not downgrading back to Oreo stock roms as the tricky partition_A and partition_B can be confusing to newbies just starting out to learn the ADB & fastboot basics, etc. Good luck !
