Text messages / notifications not coming through - Samsung Galaxy A70 Questions & Answers

Hi!
First of all, I'm new to this phone - I owned it for about 2 weeks. and I'm very happy with it. Nonetheless I have noticed an issue that I hope someone can help me out with:
Since the phone doesn't have the notification LED, I have tried out a couple of apps to facilitate this function. I ended up uninstalling them. Now I experience that some notifications are not coming through (so far I've noticed text messages). I'm trying to figure out whether this is an issue with the phone, or if it might have something to do with the notification apps that I tested? I configured the apps and settings/permissions as necessary to get them to work, but I never reset those same settings before I uninstalled.
The issue I am facing is e.g. if a text message is sent to my phone (with display not on), the text and/or notification randomly doesn't get through until I wake the phone. After waking it, the message comes through immediately. Could this have something to do with testing those notification apps? If so, is there any way to find the specific settings and reset them or am I facing a factory reset to get it to work properly again?
Any help or hint is appreciated

[Q] SMS Problem

Having an odd issue, and I can't seem to find any information on it.
It seems that randomly my text messages won't actually save to my phone. I'll get a notification of a text received, and the preview of it shows up in the notification bar, but when I go to check it (either clicking the notification or opening up the app), it won't be there. It's like I never got the message. It's not in either the stock app or GoSMS's database. It would do this when I used Handcent as well tho too.
Anybody else have any issues like this, or know of a fix? I'll have to reboot my phone several times, or even try sending myself test messages to see if it fixes itself or not.
Edit: seems similar to this person's issue: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/te...ggestions/90512-text-messages-not-saving.html

contacts, call logs disappear randomly

Hello,
I've had the zenfone 2 for about a month now and there is an ongoing problem with my contacts:
- When I go to my text messages (also sometimes whatsapp logs) the contact names are gone and only the numbers show.
- When I go to the phone dialer, it just keeps loading and nothing comes up, or sometimes the dialer loads but my recent calls log is gone.
- When I go to my contacts page it is empty.
(I have screenshots of the above issues for clarification)
I can solve this problem temporarily by emptying the cache of the "contacts" app and the "asus calling screen" app, but the phone keeps glitching at least once a day.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Does anybody have a solution for this issue?
Thanks,
Ariel
Same issues as your Zenfone 2

1 - I have seen this as well
2 - Same here
3 - Same here
What I have noticed is the following:
4 - When I go to dialer, it takes literally over 15-20 seconds to pull up the call log history. It almost seems like its searching for this data and then there is a delay in posting it.
5 - SMS app (regardless of which one it is, have used stock, GoSMS, ChompSMS, others) hangs up, starts doing weird things, as if the processor is trying to play catch-up with the buttons pressed. If I let it be, it comes back to the last commands pressed. Reminds me of the old Microsoft windows days...
6 - Battery is draining very very fast. I see a full charge around 6:30AM, then the phone reaches 40% by noon. This started happening a few weeks ago, so I am thinking a software update caused this issue.
7 - Bluetooth communications with the car console is very slow. It sometimes takes 15-20 seconds for the phone to drop the call if I press the hangup button on the steering wheel of my car.
8 - Really close to giving up on Android. Can anyone help?
Is there an ASUS live customer support that I can call for help? Does anyone have this number handy?

Yep - can confirm. I have the same issue.
One thing that worked for me was selecting the 'Contacts to display' tab and removing some of the sources.
I thought that since it was polling information from so many different sources at real time, it might be slowing down.
This temporarily worked, but the issue came back.
Extremely frustrating problem - you don't expect these kinds of bugs to make their way through QC.
This is what fixed most of my issues

I flushed application cache for contacts and a few other apps, and restarted the phone. Contacts were fine afterwards.
was the issue solved or there is a suggestion how to solve it?
I have the same issue..Any solution??
Clear data option for all Asus apps which will clear cache itself. Or you can hard reset your phone.

Silent mode goes on automatically during night

Sometime during night silent mode goes on, and it's on when I wake up. Then I have to use the slider to get the phone back on normal state. Quite annoying. Slider was in normal mode all the night. Anyone else? How to stop that behavior?
This happened to me too. Did you have Do Not Disturb settings set on your prior device and then restore the back up to your OP3? I have read that this is the cause of the problem - the old setting transfers over and there is no way to change them. I went into the global setting for app notifications and reset all apps. This worked for others and appears to have worked for me as well.
Having the same issue here.
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3000 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Yes, actually I had it on on my OPO and I transferred apps from it to the OP3 using the installation wizard's nfc method. I did the reset, let's see if it did help..
I tested resetting notifications, did not help
Me too. Migrated from my old phone using the NFC transfer wizard. Old phone was setup to go to silent 10pm - 7am. It appears the setting is transferred over but at 7am the OP3 doesn't exit silent mode. I then have to toggle the switch to take the phone out of silent but still seem to have issues with notifications sounds afterwards.
I solved it by installing new custom rom and I didn't use restore function this time..
i too am having this issue. i attempted resetting all apps settings but that didn't work.
has anyone figured out how to fix this without factory reset or installing a custom rom?
Add me to the list and I set it up as a new device. Only had the phone a day before I applied the 3.2.0 update so I can't say if was happening before. Hope there is a fix for this soon.
IMO this is because Google is syncing the DND preferences from your Google account, regardless of whether you used the the whole "set up nearby device" thing
I have this issue except Silent mode automatically turns on throughout the day for me. I have factory reset my device and setup the device as new and the issue continues. Now I'm really unsure how to fix this.
Same issue and updating to 3.2.1 didn't fix it.
I've the same issue!
I've noticed that the sound (also from the notifications) can be turned on again (for that day) by switching off, and on the Alert Slider, and then adjusting the volume-sliders in settings.
I don't think it's a Google issue as I have 4 different phones on my account in the last month and none have done this. Just ordered another 6P while they were 20% off in warehouse deals so I'll swap over to this phone Monday and see if the issue follows. For now I'm playing with Tasker to reset all the volumes at 7am.
I've got the same issue. But I did not transfer any settings to my op3.
There's nothing in my "do not disturb" menu, and nowhere to set up automatic silent mode, as far as I can see.
Same issue faced, no solution or fix found up till now.
Me too facing the same problem.. Even in day time it goes automatically to silent mode. So incoming calls doesn't sound and it solves only when I restart the phone.. And after sometime the problem is occurring again and again.. Does anyone found the solution?
I had the same problem in my opo too..
Same here. Since the 3.2.1 update my OP3 sets to Silent overnight. Some has said it's True Caller Spam Blocker, but as I don't have this it's not a solution for me. Tried the usual reset but no luck. Really need a fix for this as I need to get important calls/texts overnight. Not a hardware problem that I can see as fine before update; broken afterwards, and the physical switch works very well.
Also, I've not used any restore function whist setting up.
It would be useful if people experiencing this problem could mention it on the OP support forum. I'm using the threads...

yes - please do and add @oneplus to your answer to adresse OP team directly. Thanks.
This is related to OOS only, i installed custom rom CM based nd didn't face this issue. Then installed.OOS no restore setup as new device still same issue with no ringtone.
The fix should come from Oneplus

Weird stuff happening on phone

Hi all, my mom has an LG G3 phone. Have noticed many weird things happening on the phone since today.
The notification panel won't slide down. Also, no notifications are displayed in the notification bar, even when there are notifications, like receiving sms or messages on Whatsapp.
The phone has a swipe lock screen. But, the lock screen won't work, even though it shows in Security settings, that there is one.
Calls are being made from the phone, but no calls are being received. For example, if I call the phone, it says that the person is busy and the connection ends. My brother had also tried calling... same thing.
No apps can be downloaded or updated from the Play Store.
I tried to connect the phone to the PC, but, since I cannot slide down the notification panel, there is no way to change the connection mode to transfer data.
I should mention that the storage on the phone was getting close to being filled, and the phone was showing the warning that storage was less and that some of the functions might stop working. So, are these things because of that?
But, I did delete a lot of photos and videos and uninstalled apps, and now there is sufficient storage for the phone to run properly, but it still doesnt work, and these weird stuff are happening.
I suspect from the weird behavior that there might be a virus. Is that so?
What do I do? How will the phone return to sanity? How do I backup the data... if the solution is to factory reset the phone. There are important photos and videos and whatsapp data which I would like to save before performing a reset.
Any help will be appreciated.
Any help please?
I am really sorry. The phone my mom has is Motorola Moto G3 and not LG G3. I got confused.
I request the admins to please delete this thread, and I am again really sorry.

Question Pixel 6 Pro won't stop playing notification tone during calls

My Pixel 6 Pro has a similar problem ever since the Mar 5 update has been installed. Since then, every phone call I made comes with the non-stop notification tone literally every second. For now, I managed to get around it by enabling the "DND Mode", but it isn't a long-term solution.
Is there a way I can re-apply the same update? or flashing a new one would help?
To be clear, you're saying that you keep getting the notification tone even after answering the call? If so, is it the same as your ringtone?
Is your bootloader unlockable? If so, Official Google Android Flash Tool (OEM Unlocking needs to be toggled on - you may not have to manually unlock the bootloader - the "site" will do that on its own).
It wouldn't surprise me if that doesn't fix the issue, however. Have you tried rebooting? Maybe clear the cache and app data for the Phone app (but then you'd have to re-customize the settings for the phone app to your preferences).
I'm not on the March update, but I also don't receive many phone calls anyway.
that notification tone, during normal time, represents incoming message. It is very short, unlike a ringtone..
Tried rebooting and clearing cache and app data of the Phone app. In fact, that notification could likely come from anything like WhatsApp, Messenger, Twitter...
I noticed that the repeating tones would not happen if the phone is on silent mode. So for now this is my workaround.
Very interesting, and strange. There have been settings in some OEM's phone apps you could enable to get notification tones at regular paces - usually once a minute - while on a phone call, but the issue on yours is only similar since it's constant / every second.
I stick with my recommendation of clearing the app cache and data for the Phone app. I also assume you're using the stock Phone app that Google provides.
In my previous phone (OnePlus 6T), the very same tone happens once in a while, but only at the moment an incoming message arrives. Pretty sure I am not getting a new message every second this time around, and I think it was triggered by apps other than the Phone app. I just noticed that the same symptom showed up when I tried to play video clips from certain apps as well.
And yes, I am using the stock Phone app.
Sounds like a factory reset and only selectively installing and configuring apps, or trying to figure out which app is causing the issue.
If you factory reset, I would first not even restore any apps at all, so you can verify if you have the same problem without any third-party apps installed at first. I would suspect you won't have issues then. And then when you install apps, do it in groups of your most important ones first, maybe at the most 10 at a time, then re-verify each time if you have the same issue or not, then the next batch of app installs. It could be a particular setting in a app as well, so it's possibly merely installing an app might not be enough, so each group of apps you install, make sure and configure them as well.
If you don't factory reset, go the opposite way, uninstall your least important third-party apps and see if the issue disappears. Keep track of which apps you're uninstalling in each group. Keep doing this in reasonably sized groups of apps until you narrow down when the problem stops happening.
Once you find which group of apps being uninstalled keeps the issue from happening, you can reinstall in even smaller batches, among the ones you most recently uninstalled, and eventually find the one causing the issue. In some ways I think it's easier to go the other way around, though, start with a factory reset.
Found the culprit!
Kind of silly: I have installed this app "Internet Speed Meter Lite" when I first started using my P6P, which is for me to monitor my real-time network usage (courtesy of that endless WhatsApp - Google Drive restoring process....). It basically refreshes itself every second and this morning I tried temporarily disabling it, the problem goes away even when the phone is not set to silent mode.
Glad I didn't have to come to the point of factory resetting the device, as I really don't want to go through the WhatsApp restoring process.
Thanks for all the input, much appreciated.
