Hi All!
I just got a new a70 5 days ago, it's performing very well, but i did notice one thing. Sometimes my quick touches when i just very quickly and barely touch the screen, the touch is not registered. I activated the factory diagnostic mode (*#0*#) and tested and got some interesting results. If i touch the screen quickly enough, the touch is not registered at all, even though i apply a substantial force. I can do this like 3-4 times out of 10 if i really try. I also tried it on my galaxy S5, and although I could reproduce the same issue, it was much harder to get it to miss a touch than on my brand new a70. I did try it with and without a screen protector and it didn't make any difference. I'm actually surprised, I didn't think I can touch the screen too quickly so that the sensor (or software?) fails to register it. My question is: is this an expected behaviour, or something that should be looked into? It doesn't really affect everyday use, but ever since i discovered this I'm now always having this weir feeling anytime i'm about to touch the screen that "is this touch going to miss?". So my questions are the following:
1. Is this behaviour normal?
2. Why does my S5 seems to be more "reliable" and is harder to get to miss a touch.
3. Is there a 'minimum touch duration' for these capacitive screens?
4. Anybody else who has A70 experienced this, could try it out?
(it was not very easy to reproduce at first. i started noticing it when i wanted to open messenger chats, that some of my touches missed. for the issue to be easily reproduced one would have to try and tap as quickly as possible, so that your finger touches the screen for the shortest time possible)

Yeah the touch on this device is horrible. Don't listen to fanboys, this device has a couple of issues other than the touch screen having an awful response time.
Check:
+
The SD675 isn't well optimized for most games, so it lags in most of them, while on the A50's weaker processor, the Exynos 9610, games work just fine. Most of the time, they work better on the A50 than on the A70.
And there's another issue with dark colors being turned off instead of dimmed, because the screen doesn't know the difference between "dark" and "totally black". I'm gonna demonstrate this later by comparing the A70 and A50 side by side.
The A70 has a stronger CPU than the A50. The A50 has a stronger GPU than the A70. The A70 has better battery life.
That said, yeah touch problems. I notice it all the time when browsing. Trying to tap on small links are not registered most of the time. I have to zoom in.
I believe it to be a hardware issue that is not fixable in software.

After the sprint service reset my phone and killed my calender, I got an automated message asking if my problem was resolved. Well then I pulled over and brang up the dialing pad on the screen and started trying to press the numbers but as with 90% of the time they do not work. I started licking my fingers and pressing on the display and started *****ing and my 17 year old daughter asks my what I am doing , she than says why don't you calibrate my display. That would be great if there was one! She has. An lg touch and hers has one but mine don't she asks? Now I need to know how to make mine work before I poke my finger through the screen. I can't even hang up the phone 50% of the time. Is there a secret way to use this touch screen or do I just have to use the right finger and licking my fingers to make it work just ain't right.
Capacitive touch screens, do not need to be calibrated, unlike their cheaper cousins, and if you are having accuracy issues you need to either Odin the phone or bring it to Sprint and let them do it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitive_sensing
Licking your fingers?!? That's totally unnecessary good sir/ma'am. Capacitive screens work by picking up the electrical charge that we have in our bodies. So when we touch the screen, that charge is sent to the display, the sensor and cpu do their thing and figure out where the screen was pressed. That's why you can't use the screen with gloves on (like winter gloves). Anyway, it just sounds like the phone is acting wacky.
Have you just tried rebooting to see if that fixed it? Or turning the screen on and off a few times? My phone acts weird on the lock screen sometimes and just turning off the screen fixes it.
There are a few threads here that address accelerometer problems but if the screen is just not picking up your touch, you may want to take it to Sprint.
that would be sir and it is just one of many problems my phone has. I reset it ,sprint reset it, I am crossing my fingers I got a dud . I was suckered onto the shorter waiting list and had the phone since launch day and in the beginning it was told to me by radio shack that android 2.2 was shortly comming and was going to fix all these problems I am having. I love the phone when it is working correctly but now I am just tired of the issues and promisses not being fullfilled. I read the article in the posting and it explaines different kinds of capacitive tec, gut wich one does the epic have. my wifes epic is so sensitive that it senses 1/4 inch away at times. mine is a luck of the draw and her phone is not mine so I dont use hers enough to see if its really better. I *****ed to sprint enough ,and it took this long, that they are sending me a new one. I doubt they are sending me a new one and expect they are sending me a refurbished one to test. I want to make sure its not something like my fingers not having enough energy to sense or cosmic rays are making my page back button go wacky by itself at random when texting or browsing.
Lol, if cosmic rays are bombarding your phone, we all have a lot more to worry about than the responsiveness of your phone! Sounds like you may have just gotten a bad phone. I would be pissed if Sprint tried to give me a refurb phone. There's a command somewhere in the scripting history on the phone that will tell you whether the phone is refurb. I don't know how to do that. I bet someone on this site does though. I guess the bottom line though is that the phone just needs to work.
And to your wife's phone, yes, the phone can be extremely sensitive. Sometimes, I swear that I didn't touch the screen but the screen registers a touch just because my finger was really close to the screen.
Finally, you may want to flash your phone. If you are not comfortable using ODIN or adb, get Sprint to do it. And not just a factory reset through the settings menu. I mean resetting the phone through recovery or download mode. Good luck.
Its been 2 weeks since i bought this tablet. I have a problem since then which is when i use touch screen, while scroolin up and down and stop without drawin my finger, page under my finger vibrates for a few pixels. For example while im using photoshop touch and crop someting to move with my fingers , that cropped piece starts to shake . Does this exist in all devices ? If its not im gonna take the device back to store . Is it a known problem that no one mentions about ? With pen everthing is cool but when I start using my fingers its shaky like 3 4 pixels.

jep it's a very well known issue and pretty much everyone has it. People are pretty sure that it is a software bug that can be fixed in the next update though.
I'm going to wait until the next update hits and hope that it will be fixed, because otherwise the tablet is perfect. Otherwise I'll probably return it as well.
The capacitive touchscreen controller in these tablets attempts to provide touch coordinates that are as accurate as possible. when you place a finger on the screen, you arent touching a single point, but rather a number of points, for which the controller has to determine a center point. For capacitive screens, the calculation of this touch point can vary from one iteration of the calculation to the next as a result of subtle capacitance changes due to humidity, contact pressure, etc. if you load any of a number of test programs that output the touch coordinates, you'll see that they jump around by a few pixels.
What this means is that the driver for the touchscreen doesnt include enough deadband around the touchpoint to eliminate positional jitter. This can be corrected in the driver, but whether a software update will resolve it or not remains to be seen. If the jitter isn't acceptable, I would plan to return the tablet within your applicable return window, rather than count on a software update that may or may not address the problem. Samsung has been slow to respond to these kinds of issues, if they address them at all.

Very good point. The driver seems to try to be very accurate. One my older tablet (Acer A500) many times when using Chrome it would magnify the area where I touched as it couldn't really tell which link I had pressed. It seems with this tablet that almost never happens, almost as if the driver is trying to be as accurate as the pen. Sorry, my fingers are not that accurate! Maybe its a (incorrect) reaction to the high res of the tablet?
The driver should be averaging the touched area to get the touch point, but it should also give some kind of uncertainty so it doesn't seem unnaturally accurate (pixel width finger).
I should have tested this on the note 12 or the tab pro's at bestbuy last night...

I agree. This is exactly how it looks like. I understand that the touchscreen needs to be as accurate as possible for the pen. But a simple solution or workaround would be to have a "pen mode" for when the pen is out and a finger mode while the pen is docked in the case.
I'm sure there will be a solution for this sooner or later, especially since samsung is releasing more and more devices with wacom digitizers and stylus. And it's more or an annoyance than a deal breaker for me. There aren't any situations where it keeps me from getting my work done or anything. It's just a little annoying sometimes.
And in my experience samsung is actually quite good with fixing things these days.
Thanks for replies! I guess its the driver too. Comparing with apple , yes they dont offer to much of feature but i guess they are best at what they offer and this is the only problem with samsung. Amazing features that we come across via samsung but no perfection.

I got my G3 about a week ago and have been thoroughly enjoying it, however in the last couple of days I've been having a recurring intermittent issue with the touchscreen.
Essentially what's been happening is when the phone's gotten a bit warm the touchscreen stops registering long presses or swipes properly, and adds random break points in the swipe, this is especially annoying when trying to use the continuous input on the keyboard or add widgets.
Obviously the phone's still under warranty, so I'll return it if need be, but I was wondering if anyone else was having this issues or had any theories.
Thanks for your time.
the lg g3 is on top 3 list this fall and I did read about some of the heating problems
but based on your comments and the fact it is under warranty, I would replace it at your earliest convenience--:good:
I have to admit I have had nearly the same issue. My phone has been perfect everywhere except when it gets hot from a highly demanding game (demanding in the CPU Heat generation sense, games as simple as Angry Birds Epic cause it to get hot) and once it does, it gets to a point the touchscreen become much more erratic and less consistent on detecting taps, swipes, and holds. This digs badly into games since everything has onscreen controls and when the touchscreen looses its ability to detect touches, then all bets are off until the device cools down a bit.
It is not overly hot or uncomfortable to hold. The phone feels rather warm but otherwise everything looks and runs fine, just the touch input goes to crap for a few seconds then comes back. Has anyone else experienced this under a heavy load?
Have you resolved your issue?

I've been having a similar issue with my LG G3. I'm very pleased with the phone's overall performance but it has this touchscreen issue that's really affecting how I can use it. It has a great proc and gaming capabilities but I can't play some games because I can't rely upon the screen to register presses every time.
Have you been able to solve your issue? If so, what did you do?
After buying my P8000 right at the start of August from Everbuying.net, I finally received it yesterday. And I have to say - the vast majority of features/functions of this phone are AMAZING, especially when considering the 160 USD price tag
However, I've noticed a few things:
1. The screen seems a tiny bit unresponsive at times. It also doesn't seem to scroll fluidly when my finger is on the screen; yet, weirdly, if I "flick" the screen to scroll quickly, it appears to transition smoothly.
2. The battery life seems to vary between incredible, and sub-par. Maybe a battery-reading issue?
3. I'm in Australia, so the network bands checked out fine. However, I've noticed that sometimes the 3G simply cuts out, even when I have full signal. When on WiFi though, I get great transfer speeds.
4. The fingerprint reader isn't that accurate.
5. There are 3 dead pixels or specks of dust that I can see (just) on the screen. I remember reading a review saying that they experienced the same issue. Is this common, and could I return my device for a replacement?
Has anyone else experienced these issues? Would Elephone perhaps release a patch that may fix them (other than the dead pixels)? Gotta say - if these issues were removed in future phones, like the Vowney, I think I'll be a customer for life!

Havn't noticed this behaviour at all, did you (by mistake) activate any sort of Power saving mode?

I have amazing battery time all the way Install GSam Battery monitor (or similar) to check if you have any unwanted wake-locks

Dunno
4. The fingerprint reader isn't that accurate.
Mine unlocks the phone super quickly with an accurancy of about 80% the first time

Didn't hear about this, check with your provider of the phone if its very annoying
Best tips of ALL. Before you go any further you should upgrade to latest firmware. Elephone themself have already released 3 upgrades which solves a lot of issues! So go for latest STOCK or try the excellent ERAGON ROM

I had "Intelligent power saving standby" mode activated, as it was on when I first turned on the phone, but I don't think that influences non-standby?
Even after turning it off, the phone still takes about 1 second to wake from standby upon pressing the on button.

what about battery life on 4g? i have p6000pro and battery goes down crazy fast when 4g is enabled... but on 3g its quite allright...
For the fingerprint sensor, be sure to register as many finger positions as you can. When you register a finger, you have to repeat 15 times. or so. When you do that, you can slightly move the finger up and down and to the sides each time, so you register a bigger surface overall. The first time I registered the fingerprints I didn't do it this way and the sensor didn't seem to work very well, but after I did it the way I'm telling you, success rate improved a lot, and now it's more on the 90% to 100% range.
Fellow Pixel-ers,
So, I broke my screen about 8 months ago. It had coverage and got it replaced by a Google authorized screen fixer place.
I noticed early on that things didn't seem quite right. If I pushed down too hard on the screen, my touch wouldn't register. But, it didn't happen too often and I didn't want to have to deal with arguing that they may have poorly installed the new screen/digitizer and that it wasn't 'my fault'.
As time went on I started noticing that the almost bottom of my screen would not register a touch but mostly only at night. Again, it didn't happen too often and it usually went away after a little poking/prodding/pushing/.
I also thought it might be an application that I gave 'screen Overlay' rights that I shouldn't have and it was causing issues.
I validated my issue by using a Touchscreen Test app.
When I use an app like Vysor I am able to 'access' that area of the screen even when my fingers cannot. Does that validate this is a hardware issue?
The area affected was definitely more than just a few pixels (see screenshots).
More recently it was happening more frequently (not just at night) and it almost never goes away.
I wanted to make sure it wasn't a software issue. So I planned on dirty flashing my OS (AquariOS), but actually ended up accidentally upgrading to a clean version of Android 10. Unfortunately, the issue was still there.
I then did a clean flash and downgraded back to Pie w/AquariOS.
Shortly after getting back up the issue showed up again.
At this point, I have virtually lost all touch response for the bottom 1/8 (not quite the very bottom) of my screen. I've had to use a floating keyboard because the space bar falls right in that area. Sometimes I can't click 'next' or 'continue' in apps or web sites.
Has anyone ever experienced this very odd digitizer issue like this? Any thoughts/suggestions/ideas.
I'm guessing the only solution is a new phone as it is not worth the money to fix it.
So now I'm just waiting for either the Pixel 4A or 5 to come out so I can get a new phone I guess.
I just find this very odd how specific this area of 'dead pixels' is. I always thought it was more random than a specific rectangle.
I look forward to hearing from anyone.

Hi bro, I've face the exact same issue, but for me it was at the center of the screen. Luckily my phone was under warranty, but getting them to replace my touch digitizer was a whole different thing. At first they just didn't acknowledge the issue, then I tried showing them proofs but they didn't believe as they were from some third party apps. Finally, I used markup to show them the issue and recorded it took some screenshots as well. So, they replaced my digitizer at last after constantly speaking them for 2-3 weeks. I can only suggest you that if your phone is still under warranty or you have accidental damage coverage, ask them to replace them. Otherwise, it'll be better to buy a new phone as replacing the screen from your pocket may be very costly.
For anyone who reads this thread,
I resigned myself to having a bad digitizer but was starting to look to replace the phone. Then about a week later I inadvertently dropped the phone in a pool. Unfortunately, as the screen had been replaced the waterproofing was no longer good and phone was a brick. So I never resolved the issue but will always assume that the company that replaced the screen did a less perfect job and that when a screen is replace the phone looses it's waterproofing ability
