Lg g710pm twrp - LG G7 ThinQ Questions & Answers

I have a Spring G7 ThinQ cross flashed with ULM firmware, with bootloader unlocked. I wasn't very pleased with the lack of modifications I could do with LG UX, and wanted to see if I could flash the Pie AOSP that worked on any G7 except the T-Mobile version. I followed the instructions on this guide https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g7-thinq/development/twrp-twrp-3-3-1-0-lg-g7-thinq-t3954012 however I got unexpected results. I get LGE crash handler saying kernel crashed, when I try to boot into TWRP, or system. I was on Oreo and the instructions did say to be on Pie, however this guide https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g7-thinq/how-to/how-to-bootloader-unlock-g7-thinq-t-t3963568 advised against updating to ULM Pie, as I would then lose fastboot on the device. Am I stuck on ULM Oreo to have fastboot and root, or is there something else that can be done?

Just posting this to have it here in XDA.
Some people may want to try flashing the Canada modem via patched LGUP or may wish to return to H933 stock at some point even after unlocking their bootloader, installing TWRP and rooting.
Wait a sec, I'm not understanding this. It gives us stock oreo? Will this allow us to unlock/root etc?

Not open market "stock" Oreo but "stock" Canadian H933 Oreo KDZ. No changes, nothing added or removed. It's not a custom ROM. It's just the Canadian Oreo KDZ rolled out for all Canadian carriers back in April.
No, it won't give you root by itself as there's no fastboot commands available on H933 -- but it may be possible to flash part of the firmware or modem back after converting to US998 and rooting in the WTF bootloader unlock and root thread. Much like the Sprint and Verizon guys did to get back LTE bands or Wi-Fi calling.
I don't know, just posting it here because it wasn't available here on XDA and the other places may disappear if anyone needs it.
Any chance to relock the bootloader after restoring the original H933 if I decide to go down that route?

@ChazzMatt, am I understanding this right that there isn't specific KDZ for each Canadian carrier version? So if I wiped, flashed this (I've asked about how to do that in another thread) then reboot and insert the SIM card, any carrier specific stuff would be applied?
What I'm getting at is Freedom Mobile says VoLTE and VoWIFI only guaranteed to work on a V30 that was bought from them. But if they are all the same and get customized by updates after joining the network, then it shouldn't matter as long as its a H933? They seem to be suggesting otherwise but that may just be a generic CYA for them to cover other devices that may actually have unique variants for different Canadian networks?

Yes, that is my understanding. All Canadian carriers use the same KDZ. When you add their SIM card, I belived that populates whatever features they have. (See my explanation below and a reason this may not work.)
This is also not the most recent kdz for Canadian phones. It's just the most recent one I posted; others are available.
https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-h933-firmwares/firmwares/
Ignore that they also list carrier. I'll explain. Let's use OPEN ESA in SouthEast Asia as an example. India (IND) is part of the Open ESA region which includes Indonesia (IDN) and Philippines (PHL). An Open ESA KDZ has all the features of all the carriers in that region. If you install an open ESA KDZ which is labelled "Philippines" or "Indonesia" on an India H930DS phone, it automatically gives you INDIA LG service app as well as India carrier Jio VoLTE. Oreo KDZ for Open ESA region was available in those other two countries for almost two months before it was officially released in India. You could download the Oreo Open ESA KDZ online, install it on India H930DS, have Oreo. It would show INDIA build number, would be customized for India. BUT some India users kept saying, "But we want INDIA KDZ." I kept trying to explain, THIS IS INDIA KDZ! It's just not released in India yet...
Now, on that list above of Canadian carrier KDZ you can download, note that 20f FROM ALL THE CARRIERS ARE EXACTLY THE SAME SIZE. And they all have the same TITLE. WHY? It's exactly the same KDZ. :silly:
Now, here's the question I cannot answer. Was it an India SIM card that made India build number populate, India apps be installed -- or was it IMEI number? I think it's SIM card.
"Freedom Mobile says VoLTE and VoWIFI only guaranteed to work on a V30 that was bought from them"
"Will work" and "guaranteed to work" are two different things. "Guaranteed to work" means the'll even replace your phone if needed, and highest levels of technical and customer support. That comes if you buy phone from them. But if features populate on SIM card and not on IMEI registered to Freedom, then you don't need their phone -- just their SIM card.

@ChazzMatt
I am still not familiar with the LG tools and must be doing something simple wrong here.
My device started as an H933
I converted to an H998, oreo (20D I think) bootloader unlocked, rooted, twrp.
I want to return to stock H933.
I have installed windows drivers, LGUP, the dll, etc. So I can launch LGUP, and detect my device. I go to the main LGUP screen, select update, select the H933f file downloaded from above, and start. The phone goes to the Firmware Update screen. LGUP goes to 4% and then errors saying something like Error 4, not compatible with cross device H998 to H933.
I am using the LG common. Maybe it should be patched?
Thanks for any guidance

Yes, you need dev patched LGUP. You are converting (back) to another variant. You will DL PARTITION again via dev patched LGUP, just like when you did Frankenstein the first time.

Frustrated. Feels like every step forward, theres a new problem.
I downloaded the LGUP+V30DLL_PATCHED(5)
I installed the LGMobileDriver_WHQL_Ver_4.2.0.exe
I launch LGUP and see the com connection. It says initializing and then I get:
DLL for US99820d is invalid. Please, install valid DLL package (*.msi). for the model.
I tried the LG_common DLL and got the same error.

Are you going into download mode before opening LGUP?
You did this before when your converted your phone. I'm curious why you're having to redownload, reinstall everything?

When I'm not in DL mode, it puts the V30 into DL mode automatically, then generates the error. But when trying to diagnose the problem, I did spot a reference (by you I think) saying to go to downloader mode before connecting, so I went back and did that. Same result. :crying:
The original install wasn't there. I have a MacBook so I borrow access to a PC for this.
Update: On the PC I uninstalled the LG drivers and all LGUP related software. I spotted LG Bridge so I uninstalled that too. I went into task manager and killed LG related tasks. I reinstalled the patched LGUP. I put the phone in DL mode connected and launched LGUP. A step forward! I tried the LG update with the H933 bin and it failed. I noted your reference to DL Partition above and switched to that with select all. It indicated success, but the device was in a boot loop, with the android guy flashing very briefly. I forced a master reset and it appears to be booting into the first time setup process. Restoring backed up files and data now.
@ChazzMatt
Ugh... As I said before, 1 step forward two steps back. I have lost mobile data connection in the process.
Tried so far:
Verify mobile data is on
Verify roaming data is on
Verify no data limits or data saver on
Verify Network mode is correct - GSM/WCDMA/LTE
Verified I am connected with good signal to the home network
Master reset
Network Setting reset
APN verification. Reset to default. Recheck they are what the carrier expects
Text to carrier for auto setup files (40001 - SIM and 41111 - setup)
Carrier tech support advised they have reset my network provisioning on their side
Tried another SIM card from the same carrier - Still no data connection.
I remember someone else posting about losing their data connection after flashing back to H933 or maybe just the modem. I will search for that but if anyone knows what to do or can point me to it that would be great.
Next Question: How do I go about relocking the bootloader on the H933? I'm only familiar with the fastboot oem lock command, but I don't think that will work? I'm wondering if I need to be flashing back to H998, relocking and then back to H933 again?
Once again, thanks for the help

I would look through here some good information about going back to H933. You would have to go back to firmware with fastboot commands if you want to relock your bootloader. But unless your selling it or returnkng for warranty purposes no real reason to relock.

I don't know if this is the place to post this, but does anyone know if we can rollback to this firmware from the September 2018 H933 update without causing issues?
From what I'm reading, it shouldn't be a problem as when booting from download mode, we are essentially telling the phone it doesn't have firmware installed and to install the firmware we tell it to, correct?

LM-G710V going back to stock possible?

Hi!
I have this G7 with the model LM-G710V with an unlocked bootloader and managed to successfully flash Phh-Treble by following this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g7-thinq/development/rom-phh-aosp-8-1-t3808649 :victory:
but then i would like to convert back to stock but unfortunately there are no available KDZ for G710V in the interweb.
would it be possible to convert G710V to G710EM ,or to a similar effect, by flashing 10b Vendor img and boot img then the kdz found in this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g7-thinq/development/dump-g7-stock-vendor-t3840834 ?
or would this just leave me with a dead bricked phone?
additional notes:
bought this phone as a secondhand from someone in facebook with the bootloader unlocked and with, as the seller stated, "G7+" rom with issues.
no backup was made before
Thank you for anyone willing to answer! :good::fingers-crossed:

Hello @xElouise, according to the LG Open Source Code Distribution website (here), the G710V is equivalent to:
G710VM
G710AWM
G710AWMH
G710VMP
G710VMX
KDZs from any of the models above should work fine, just note that they may come with carrier bloatware. Reflashing the stock firmware is the same as any other G7 version (here, up to the first half step 5).
Does your phone have an IMEI code and working telephony? Because from the info I have gathered on the internet, looks like the G710V is a retail demo unit without either baseband or IMEI.
Hey there! Thanks for the reply!
Unfortunately since after flashing Phh-Treble LGUP does not recognize the phone anymore (Shows up as Unknown)(maybe because i flashed the vendor img(?) idk.)
Anyway, since back then before flashing Phh-Treble i was already trying to flash KDZs Thru LGUP, but unfortunately LGUP throws me error saying it does not support cross flashing.
I have tested the following before:
G710VM - LGUP Error cant cross flash G710V to G710VM
G710AWM - LGUP Error cant cross flash G710V to G710
G710VMX - LGUP Error cant cross flash G710V to G710
This unit IMEI & Baseband says unknown. This also has the white sticker at the back with some of it's details like unit model, FCC Id, etc.

You can contact the guy that sold the phone to you and see if he has a dump. Otherwise I can pack the system and the vendor but I'm not 100% sure if it will work
Hi, is your unit the demo unit one, without phone function and with retail mode app? Did you encounter any issues with the flashed ROM so you're changing again? I managed to land one of those demo units but there's too much restriction for usage so I was thinking of flashing another ROM but I'm a complete noob with regards to that.
Thanks.

would it be possible to convert G710V to G710EM ,or to a similar effect, by flashing 10b Vendor img and boot img then the kdz found in this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g7-thinq/development/dump-g7-stock-vendor-t3840834 ?
or would this just leave me with a dead bricked phone?
additional notes:
bought this phone as a secondhand from someone in facebook with the bootloader unlocked and with, as the seller stated, "G7+" rom with issues.
no backup was made before

@LameMonster82 , The seller said that he bought it off someone when it has boot loop issues and have his buddy fix it for him & he does not have any backup (guess that makes me a third hand(?) not really affected by it since i got the unit for a dirt cheap price around <$100 and it's quite a smooth unit too).
If you could, in your spare time of course, make the pack that would be really much appreciated! Thank you very much!
@ceezae , This may be a demo unit since i got it without any sim functions and a blank IMEI. I don't know about retail mode, though there was an widget applet before which showcases LG G7's features. I already bought the unit with it's boot loader already unlocked so I have no idea how a G710V got unlocked. When i bought the unit it does not have any audio at all either thru the headphone or speaker that's why i flashed a custom rom.
Anyway , since I flashed Phh-Treble 8.1 the phone's working smoothly aside from the aforementioned bugs in this thread
I am going back to stock since i can not utilize the quad DAC feature in custom rom and I could not get Gcam to work (it either crash or extremely Laggy)
I would also like to mention that:
I can not seem to boot to recovery via (Vol down + Power button) it always say that "Factory Reset is Disabled by Kill Switch" even though OEM Unlock is ticked in the developer settings as well as unsynced Google Account.
And my internal storage is showing that I only have 16 GB of internal (would be easy to fix with TWRP but again no luck with custom recovery)

Hi there!
I am terribly sorry but my device is kinda a bit soft bricked(?) at the moment.
I was trying to flash the Stock Korean PIE KDZ and was successful but it had problems like WIFI can not be turned on and Random Reboots.
I think I also have lost access to Fastboot since the phone only Reboots itself normally.
My dumb self did not make a backup so I am a bit screwed at the moment.
Someone with an intact phone (which hasn't been flashed) will have to pack up their partitions and post it here. The G710V seems to be technically similar to the G710N but can't actually be flashed to a G710N (you can force this through using LGUP but it results in a phone that crashes all the time due to some issue with the wifi driver).

Hey, I tried backing up these via adb shell myself on my G10V but... "permission denied". Great. Probably because the demo units force a Retail Mode device administrator that you can't remove at all. Can't even access the page itself in Settings ("you are not authorized..." blah blah). It's a shame, because I was really looking forward to helping OP.
have you succeeded I have the same problem as you

How to Covert LG V30 V300L to global( Pie)

Remember you're doing this at your own risk. I won't be hold responsible for any damage.
Read and follow steps carefully.
First follow the tutorial to unlock your bootloader, install twrp and root.( https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/how-to/korean-variant-bootloader-unlock-root-t3804505), after unlooking the bootloader,
flash twrp flashable v300l android 8 rom( 2019 prefered) and boot android first.
Go to developer options and enable usb debugging and OEM unlocking if is unticked.
Now download v300l pie rom and flash with LGUP( Use the dualmode version to get all options), but this time choose refurbish.
After it successfully boot, go back to enable developer options and enable usb debugging.
Now Download H930 pie rom you like and flash with lgup but this time choose partition dl then click start.
Now this is the important part, when the partition selection menu pops up, select all partitions except xbl, xbl 2 and modem, these three partitions must be unselected or unmarked then hit ok to flash.( if you dont unselect them, it will flash H930 Modem and you wont get network since the korea variants and Global variants dont have the same modem. unselect those 3 options to retain the korea modem)
After it finishes, hold the volume down and power button to got to recovery and do factory reset.
Wait for it to finish booting and configure to get your lg v30 korea variant as a global version.
Notes:
Any time there is an update, please use the LGUP to flash kdz and select partition dl, and leave xbl xbl2 and modem unselected or else you will not get network or service signal.
Never use a flashable zip or else you will get softbrick( you can use a back up global rom to restore as update but make sure you dont select modem anytime youre doing update)
sometime registering network seems to take longer time, be patient.
You can also root by using the recovery installion method and root using twrp.
I dont know if this will work on the other korea versions but you can try.
You can now flash any aosp rom made for H930 you want without any problem because your device is now global version.
Please Fm radio will never work because the Korea Variants don't have Fm hardware. LG replaced the Fm hardware with DMB hardware for Korea market.
Saying thank you will be appreciated

Please just to verify, you mean all custom roms available to H930 can now be installed on V300L?

yes. every rom for H930 works on v300l with a single problem unless that rom is buggy.

But just covert from v300l to H930 first or else you wont get network signal. follow the tutorials and you will see the magic
just finish converting mine. V300S
from v21e
1.i flashed v300s 30h
2.next flashed H93030q_00_OPEN_EU_OP_0902.kdz (unchecked xbl,xbl2,modem)
3.flash TWRP-3.2.3-7-DataIMG.img
4.from twrp: flash magisk v19.4, dm_verity, ak3_rctd remover.
reboot successfully with signal and data. buy one thing i notice, there is no 3g/lte indicator under signal icon. but then again, i have data connection.
Now, my concern is:
1. if I backup my current stock rom (h93030q) via twrp, then i restore it via twrp. will I get softbrick?
2. what twrp version must prefer to install custom rom?
3. what are the working custom rom do i use?
4. whats the proper step in twrp to have a clean install for custom rom?
5. lastly, when im in custom rom, can i go back to stock h93030q via RESTORE on TWRP?
Earlier i flashed v300l rom step by step but i got no signal so i revert back to us998 20h oreo. But still i lost signal. (When i search it shows "error while searching networks) and (i check ims status in *#*#4636#*#* the n phone info and tap three dots and ims status. Ims status : not registered) my original device is h931 converted to us998.
I done everything flash rom in DL/Refurbished but no success till date. So if you guys have any fix please help me. And yes i don't loose imei number , i have it but no network. And wifi not able to search Wi-Fi's every time i need to restart to connect wifi. Sometimes it connect. Till restarting for wifi connection.
hi guys. this method works well, but network searching is too long, because firmware is searching for a second sim. At Oreo roms it was possible to fix it by changing (removing) persist.radio.multisim.config property in build.prop or OP folder. is there any way to fix it at Pie?
---
ok guys, i found a solution if you have root
edit file /vendor/bin/init.class_main.sh
about string ~120-130 find
multisim=`getprop persist.radio.multisim.config`

Click to collapse
and change it with
multisim=tsts

looks like workaround, but works well

coming from v300s pie and flashed h930 30q. my only problem is lte/4g icon on statusbar, how can I fix it?

Hi bro. Can it be used with volte?
The guide look promising and I would like to try it on my V300L that I bought to replace my H930 with a smashed screen (unfortunately a screen assembly would have cost more).
But I got two questions before trying it out:
1. The Bootloader unlock and root guide is based on Oreo, but I got my V300L on Pie, unfortunately (V300L30h). According to the hidden menu, ARB is 0 for APPSBL, SBL1, TZ and RPM, so it should work, right?
2. My goal is to convert the firmware to the EU variant, but I don't necessarily need a bootloader unlock or root myself. In the bootloader unlock guide you are supposed to flash the H930 firmware as a whole, including XBL, XBL2 and modem. So it seems like the V300L and H930 firmware is signed using the same key. As bootloader unlocking requires to reflash the firmware multiple times, which is not optimal for the EMMC chip, and bootloader unlocking could introduce some hassle with some apps, I wondered if it was possible to flash the firmware directly without peforming the bootloader unlock first, of course without flashing XBL, XBL2 and modem. Unfortunately, I don't really know how Qualcomm's chain of trust works, but I can imagine that having bootloader stages from different device firmwares might trip up the validation and I really don't want to mess up the bootloader chain.
Thanks in advance

??? I think you are confused about something.
All actual H930 firmware is single SIM. LG H930 and (even LG H930G) are single SIM phones.
There are only two "V30" dual SIM variants -- H930DS and H930D. So don't flash H930DS or H930D KDZ.
But actual H930 is single SIM. So, any LG stock KDZ for H930 is single SIM. The hard part is finding dual SIM KDZ not avoiding them.
________
I'm a little confused by "ROM". Are you talking about LOS custom ROMs? Or stock firmware TWRP flashable zips built like ROMs? Or are you merely using the word ROM to describe LG stock KDZ? In the OP, they use the word "ROM" to mean LG stock KDZ, so I will assume that's what you mean.
sorry that's for stock kdz. as i have v300s and converting to h930. this is the file i fl(H93030q_00_OPEN_EU_OP_0902.kdz) but it has a dual simcard option in settings.

That's a single SIM phone. It is compatible with dual SIM H930 variants (DS and D), but H930 is a single SIM phone.
If it has dual SIM card option, just ignore it.
Early Oreo H930 KDZ didn't have that option and H930DS people who flashed that couldn't use their dual SIMs.

i can confirm what @dchinacay has said above with regard to stock H930 30q firmware having Dual SIM option in Korean V300 Frankenstein; is that option visible by default in non DS version of H930 too?
i have just converted a V300S to H930 Pie using method by @darkidz555 and @Amosika and flashed the stock H930 30q KDZ firmware from your mega upload last to achieve that.
many thanks to everybody that has contributed to this marvel!
while signal searching was instantaneous when the phone was still in its V300 state, it has slowed down noticeably as a H930 now.
is the slow down due to the Dual SIM option or because the phone is now searching for networks in bands not supported by the V300?
hope some gurus can shed some light and maybe we can solve the problem with a simple config file edit.
(i did not try the suggestion (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=80558959&postcount=7) by @viktor.s as @dchinacay has encountered problem with it.)
@dchinacay, I do have 4G on top of the signal bars when mobile data is in use (wifi off or when not connected to wifi).
Dual SIM and slow signal search issue resolved!
I accidentally stumbled upon the solution for slow signal search after conversion to H930.
As I did not uncheck the box beside recovery and recoverybak for Partition DL when flashing H930 30q KDZ firmware, I had to reflash TWRP after 30q.
As known, Format Data is required during the first boot in TWRP recovery for TWRP to work.
After formatting data and rebooting back into TWRP recovery, I went ahead to flash Magisk 20.1, Disable DM Verity and RCTD Remover.
To my surprise, after the phone has booted into android PIE, there is no more Dual SIM option and the 4G cellular signal caught on almost instantaneously, like how it was when the phone is still a V300!
@dchinacay, the 4G signal icon display went back to that of V300's too!
Hope the above works a treat for all those facing the same issues!

He did NOT uncheck the recovery and recovery_bak, so he wiped out TWRP... Which actually solved his problem. He then re-installed TWRP, reformatted his data (necessary), flashed Magisk 20.1, Disable DM Verity and RCTD Remover.
He basically followed these steps:
INSTALL or REINSTALL TWRP on PIE stock KDZ with ALREADY-UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER

You need laf_a and laf_b partitions from HK 20a firmware
Then partitionDL 20a kdz
Then refurbish 20a kdz again to restore cellular.
Is there a way to identify region of LG V405EBW?
I did flashed both EU and HK KDZ but still no signal. I totally forgot to backup my firmware and now my phone has no signal
