Got the new Note 10+. Moving the power button to the left is stupid. Most people are right handed, so we hold the phone in our right hand. Now the power button has moved to the left, you have to bring your other hand up to switch it off. Pain in the arse! What do you all think?
I still get a bit confused by it, but I'm ambidextrous so it's a minor adjustment for me. I think it would drive me nuts if I was right handed.
Non issue for me. I use Good Lock to put a power button on the navigation bar.
Not a huge issue but I do understand. Had it for a few weeks and still reach over there.
Camera being on the back right messes me up more though. Have no clue if I'm holding the phone the right way until I don't get feedback.
I am right handed, but, I am not obsessed about using this expensive device single-handed, so, I hold the phone with my left, and do all the stuff with my right one, so, the buttons lay precisely within reach of my LEFT thumb, portrait and landscape, for me it is very convenient
I'm right handed and its a non-issue for me. My middle finger wraps around naturally and rests on the power button...ahem...side key.

Nope I can still use my index finger to press the side button and its more secure… using thumb will make you slip and drop the phone if your fingers give way

Hi.
Is it normal for the power/lock button the Desire Z to be lower on one side than on the other? When I'm holding it with the screen towards me, the right side of the button is kind of level with the casing and not quite as protruding as on the left side. Thus it's become a bit harder to press down when I'm only pressing down on the right side.
Ummm I don't believe it's "normal", but as soon as I read your question I checked mine and it appears about the same. Sticks up a little more on the left half than it does on the right. I know of no solution for you, but atleast you aren't alone!

I'm sure it's just from usage? I would assume that sometimes you don't click the button right down the middle and your finger will generally be pushing it on the right or left hand side, and over time, that part will sink in more than the other side?
Well, I haven't had it for more than a few weeks so I don't think it's from heavy use. But as TJBunch says, his is like that as well, so it might be a "feature".
Mine is like this as well. I use the search button mod for this very reason. Minimize use as much as I can. Its a sign of use... with the mod, in the long run, I can prevent overuse. The nexus one suffered from a flakey power button.

The phone is too long to have the power button on top. It's also too thin at the top to have a button there, but the power button location is mostly because of the phone's size.
I did this once now I dint its all about how you hold the phone and now I don't press any volume keys when hitting the power button

You'll get used to it. It's not better or worse than a button on the top, just different, especially when you come from another phone. Give it a week or two and this becomes a none-issue.

I have to agree that the current location is plain stupid.
The number of times I've hit it when either using the volume buttons or holding my phone playing a game is too many to count over the last week.
Poor industrial design that one.
lol coming from an iphone , this is really the only thing that bothers me.
I actually prefer it to the unthought out position that HTC choose for their massive smartphones ... you'll get used to it and you'll love it

yeah i still go for the home button like on my iPhone, but i've only had my Nexus 4 days..
I like the power button being on the side much better. Especially for these bigger devices. It would be awkward to unlock with one hand if it was on top. I don't know maybe I'm a bit biased because I have owned the gs1 and gs2. Either way I have never had an issue with the button placement before.
I like it where it is, on the side. Previously I have had some HTC phones, so I've experienced both. In my opinion, it's way easier and faster to turn the screen on/off. And I've never had a problem with it.

Same with me. I've also had 2 previous HTC devices, but I prefer the power button on the side now.
The thing that really tripped me up is the volume being on the opposite side. That messed me up more than the power button location.
Just a guess, but I'm guessing it has something to do with the screenshot feature. Having buttons on the opposite sides allows you to just squeeze the phone in the position you're probably already holding it in.

The screenshot feature came long after the side button placement on phones. The button combination for it was likely created for the reason you said though. Well that and they're pretty limited in what combinations they can do when there aren't many buttons.
I swear, every time I use the keyboard I mange to hit one of the capacitive buttons as I stretch my thumb to hit a far away letter. I'm sure a case with a lip will fix it but gee, couldn't they have put the buttons a little farther from the edge?
I seem to always hit the back button a lot with lower part of my hand when i am stretching to tap on something on the left part of the screen.
A lip would have ruined the aesthetics a bit as I love the flat body with rounded edges.
If you look at the phone, there isn't too much extra room to maneuver the buttons either.
Maybe our hands are just too small.
For that reason i prefer Sony xperia phone design with slim physical buttons.

i seem more likely to accidentally have part of my hand touching one part of the screen as i try to reach the other side with my thumb. Obvious by the unintentional zoom in/out.
I'm sure your not the only one. But I don't have that problem.

I actually disabled the backlight for the capacitive buttons. Makes the phone look stealthy..
I've had issues with this when watching videos or playing games on landscape, for me what worked was I turned the phone so the usb port faces left side.
How is it possible to hold this tab in portrait mode with those stupid hardware buttons located at where my left had is supposed to grip the tab?
I think this will be a turnoff for people who intend to use the tablet mainly for reading and annotating textbook, unless there is an option to disable hardware buttons while in portrait mode or completely disable them and replace them with software buttons with orientation.
The alternative will be holding the tablet upside down with the left hand gripping the camera

It seems like people are making a bigger issue out of this than it actually is. The long side is around 10 inches long and the buttons might take up three. I'm sure you'll be able to handle it without accidental button presses. In my opinion, having the menu button just below my thumb is a welcome feature.
Since the buttons are on the long side, that is the default way of holding it. Now the question is that if you are holding it with left hand, why you don't simply rotate it to other direction?

Being a right handed person i hold the tab by the left hand and write/turn pages by the right.
I'm not sure if holding the tab by the camera is a wise idea, for the risk of accidentally touching the camera lens.

It may be only me but I'm more comfortable holding the tab from the middle of the left side.

Well I don't see why touch the lens is that bad thing, as it usually is the part of phone, for exsample, which is touching table etc. And any fingerprints can be easily wiped from the lens. But that is just me.
ps. I don't understand using covers with phones either, with tablet they are more useful.

I'll probably rotate it and hold it by the camera lens. It's not like I'll ever use a gigantic tablet to take a picture anyway. That's why I'm getting my Note 3, so I can take pictures with a gigantic phone.

You are right about the back camera but the front one i use frequently for video calls.
Looks like i'm the only one that actually likes the idea of a hard button! it's an instant access to home, not being able to do this on a nexus annoys me, but i don't see why this should be a deal breaker really.

Say what you will but I think an inch bezel around the whole tablet is necessary, how else you plan on holding the thing if there is no room for your thumb. I could care less about what any isheep has to say about my tablet.

While im not crazy about the idea I do have a Note 2 and already i'm use to them being there.
Actually I can see some benefits....
I'm sure you can disable the buttons or a program will come out that can.

The reason why they have physical buttons is because since 4.2 and up, the tablet UI became the phone UI. So you no longer had a bar at the bottom, one side with cappy buttons and the other with the notification drawer.
Instead you have a status bar like on phones AND a bar at the bottom for only three buttons. Less screen estate, especially considering that Samsung would use the Home, Back and Menu buttons in capacitive form. That takes away quite a bit of screen space and you can see it happening especially in videos. To get what I mean, take a look at the 4.2.2 firmware for the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. More screen is lost because the design guidelines have changed.
What Samsung's done is take away the bottom bar and used the physical buttons instead. Not the best solution but it allows for more screen space. On the Note, it'd be a bit of a shame to have about a centimetre thick part of that awesome screen taken up by three buttons.

I agree with this. Though I am not a huge fan of the physical buttons I really like that it has the extra screen real-estate.
someone will mod it soon. i've actually gotten used to the buttons on my gn8. the only time hate em is when gaming. the rom I use has a mod to turn them off and only make them useable via spen. you'll get used to it too. you may never like it, but you can find a work around.
As someone who owns this tablet the physical buttons are a huge step backwards. Why? That POS menu key. Coming from the original Note 10.1 it's ridiculous constantly hitting that menu button to find out if it has a menu available. Compare to the original Note 10.1 where menu options appear in the action bar. Samsung has completely ruined the tablet experience with their incredibly stupid design choices. This tablet is such a huge pain to navigate. Why can't somebody else offer a Wacom stylus on their 10" Android tablet? I wish Google would throw an S Pen'ish stylus on their Nexus 10 so I can rid myself of Samsung's incompetence. I've never had such a frustrating tech purchase.
I have a Note II with a physical menu key but it's not nearly as frustrating because everything is so close together. I feel like my hand is running a marathon with this tablet having to move all ovef the place to navigate the UI.
I love the S Pen. It works beautifully. The screen is gorgeous. It's not a brick like some other high resolution tablets. It's very powerful and fast. Why oh why did they throw hardware keys on this thing and muck everything up. I would gladly take the black bar on the bottom with home, task switch and back if I could.
The disable hardware keys mod cannot come fast enough for me.
i'm not really diggin the physical buttons either. there's enough screen real estate to have the nav bar on the bottom. the home button is ok, but the menu and back have becoe more and more of a nuisance. i tolerate them on the gn8 b/c of the extra screen area i get plus using the soft nav buttons hack doesn't hide button properly in full screen video.
i can get use them being there on the note10 but i don't won't like them better than soft nav buttons. i hope if they hack it that it'll properly hide in full screen.
I haven't read the posts in this thread, but I wanted to comment that I happen to like the hard buttons. I'm right handed and hold it with my left like OP. I like that I can reach the option, home and return buttons (this is what you all mean by "hard buttons" right?) with my thumb. The design feels very intuitive and quite natural. I also recently found out that you can quickly access the task manager by holding down the home button. It will open up a menu similar to the menu that opened when you pressed the double rectangle button on the older model. The more time I spend with this device the more I love it. My mom is actually getting the new Note 3 so she's going to let me have her Note 2. I can finally get rid of this iphone 3 that came free with my contract.
Please, no "that's what she said" jokes. Rate this thread to express how you think the LG G5 feels in-hand. A higher rating indicates that it's comfortable to hold for long periods of time, even in one hand. Resist the urge to say "TWSS" just now. Seriously.

Phone feels GREAT in hand!
Coupled with a Goospery TPU case...it's the PERFECT size, and protected decently! I'd choose this size phone over my Note 3!!!

I think the volume on the side is better than the back one for the following reason. When you are in sitting in a table studying and hearing music, if you want to increase or decrease the volume, you dont have to pick up the phone just because the buttons are in the back. Also, when you are driving if you are using a gps, it is more useful to have them on the side if you are constantly increasing and decreasing the volume. (Just an opinion)

I like buttons on back way better. You can always adjust volume on screen for the rare times you have it flat on a table, and to be honest you really can't use side buttons 1 handed without picking it up, or bracing it against something, or covering screen with hand anyways.

There you go lol. That's why there are a wide variety of colors. (Figurativerly speaking though) This one just happened to be black instead of blue (Again, figuratively speaking). But you can adjust the volume with one hand without the need of the other or picking up the device. Or am i just happen to be so skilled to do it? hahaha

Totally agree. About the only time I'd prefer them on the back is when I'm holding it in both hands. I generally find myself holding it in my right hand only though and it feels great, I can reach almost all of the screen without overreaching even with my bumper on. I prefer the S7 edge in this respect but the G5 still scores highly.

I'm not fond of the side volume buttons.. But regarding the awful implementation of these keys on the G5, it is totally solved by a case.
I would prefer the volume rocker to be on the right hand side of the phone, or even better, at the back. Besides that, it fits like a glove

I agree. While I would have preferred the volume buttons were on the right side, overall, it's a very comfortable phone. Especially considering how wide it is.
The only other issue that I have with it is that I really like and am getting so used to the power button being on the back of the phone. Whenever I have to use my wife's phone, I start fishing in the back of the phone with my finger standing there confused wondering why I can't find the power button on her S6. lol

My thoughts on the G5:
It's top heavy because of the light plastic at the bottom. I feel like its going to fall out of my hand at the top because the weight is not equally distributed. It feels nice in the hand outside of that.
The volume rocker is all wrong. They need to put it back on the rear of the phone. Coming from the G2 and G3, I hate having the volume rocker on the left side as I keep pressing the power button trying to change the volume. It also makes taking a screenshot really awkward and hard to do. At the very least put it on the right side of the phone. The only benefit I see to having it on the left side of the phone is that you can still use your thumb to take a photo yourself or a group using the rear camera. However; this could easily be accomplished on the right side of the phone with your index finger.
The headphone port needs to be moved back to the bottom of phone. Not a fan of it at the top.
The slight curve at the top of the phone is a neat touch; however my tempered glass screen protector has not showed up to see how well that will fit.
I haven't noticed the lip where the bottom connects to the phone's body as mentioned in a lot of the reviews.
Lg needs to start supplying 6' charging cords. The G5 cable is even smaller than the G2 - G4's cables.
Side note: Stupid Verizon removed the Smart Settings / My Place from their version and I wish they would leave the LG browser and Smartworld app installed.
