Update 2 - The source has now been released on Github !! Here it is -
https://github.com/MiCode/H1S_kernel
Enjoy and Happy New Year
Update 1 - Donovan Sung, kernel development head of Xiaomi has himself confirmed on MIUI forum that he's going to release the sources on 31st December 2014.. So guys rejoice, bugless Lollipop isn't far away !!
Guys.. Today I have got good news for you all... A friend of mine emailed Xiaomi Kernel Development head asking when they are going to release the source code for the public !! This was the reply he got from him ( See attached image )
that is a good news! its better late than never. but I guess for a device like this, pushing kernel source while releasing the product is very very imp. It limits its true power. due to this restriction cm12 development is getting seriously delayed.
and the weird thing is, my old device huawei y300 is getting cm12 nightly as early as 1st week of dec. The build is ready and almost everything is working. only some minor bugs, which will be polished. and here devs are working hard to get the primary source ready. its a real pity!
It is really a very good news.It may also happens that our redmi will enter into the android one device list that earlier told by hugo bara.:highfive:
Can you post more details? Maybe show the full email sent by your friend?
That's the complete mail. 1st one for Hugo Barra. And 2nd one was the forwarded mail.

Glad to see at least it will be released [emoji3]
i spammed a lot in miui forum about this...finally found it win
Dreaming to get a Custom kernel
Early Q1 could be two months from now (at least), I wouldn't call it a win, it's really really late. Also, this is a private email not an official announcement, I'm sorry but I don't really trust them. They could be answering that in the email so they don't get more requests to release kernel sources in a while. I have to say I'm a bit disappointed with Xiaomi, each day they remind me a little bit more to Huawei...

Bro.. Its better late than never !! And they will surely release it.. Same was the case with Mi2, they released the kernel source of this device after 9-10 months of release but they did release it !! Redmi 1S was released in May, so you can expect the kernel source to released by February !!
Coming from a mi3 user...ppl in our forum are really pissed with unavailability of the sources till date...we have received many such egs from mr Barra(he'll release in a week or so)but nothing has happened....hope it's for real this time
Wow bro
Hats off

Hi Folks,
Everyone is eager to know "when can we get CM12 on Zenfone 2?".
We all are fed-up of the official ASUS builds .... (fast charging & fast draining technology together :laugh.
Are people working on building CM12 for ZF2 & when can we expect the first drop ?
Just a hint would also bring new hopes to most of us
I'm really excited to know about this

please..first rule of CM or XDA, never ask for ETA, and never ask or push developers to speed up their work or we will never get any of it..
just keep waiting and when the time has come, they will share it with us..just dont keep asking for ETA please.. and i hope that xda newcomer on zf2 forum must learn this word, NEVER ASK FOR ETA for any development..its a taboo here..

I'm not. Something I learned some time back is that unless the kernel and device tree of the aftermarket ROM (like AOSP, or a derivative like CM) is developed by someone that knows every last nook can cranny of the device (as in the OEM, and I don't imagine that happening), the device won't be optimized out of the gate to provide better battery life than stock.
Hacking a device tree from scratch, rather than building on what the OEM has provided (albeit not knowing what route they are going with this one) spells problems. Of my two devices that I had custom ROMs for, neither worked fully (no matter which ROM you chose) or engaged more hardware (something was always missing or broken) , and the battery life was worse than stock (even with modest OS jump, from stock GB to ICS/CM9).
You can see how I voted, although I am not reserved to stock forever. CM13 or CM14 would be the time I would be interested in something other than stock, when the kernel and device tree becomes mature enough to prove myself wrong regarding the above.
The only thing I like in official FW is "double-tap to wake".
But it's actually not "double-tap to wake" because the phone never sleep.
When I watched CPU state with CPU Spy and found out Deep Sleep state never be used.
The reason why it's drain about 1%/hour even not connecting to anything.

You could follow here if you wanted. I believe the only thing you will get here with regards to CyanogenMod for the ZF2 will be the ROM post/thread when it is ready. I understand what you are getting at. My point was this particular thread should not have been made in the first place. A simple search would have yielded info the OP was looking for (with the exception of an ETA).
Shame on me but never saw any CM rom, not even from distance. Can someone link me some good source of picture/video so I can see some good/cool stuff about CM and decide if it is worth more than ASUS stock rom (which is pretty good by me)?
hello ive been waiting for pa from a long time ( just like all of u ) but looks like its not happening ,,, is it coming soon enuf or should i just try out other roms ? any suggestions for other roms ? im still on stock but looking to change now ,, thank you ,, appreciate your help
It will come ... Someday. If you'd like to try some ROMs, do it. It's pointless to wait for something that doesn't have an ETA.
When it eventually comes, switch to it, simple.
I've also been on stock (more or less, switching between stock stable, beta, FreedomOS and ExperienceOS) for a long time, mainly because of reports that camera isn't as good on custom ROMs. Then a few weeks ago I finally got myself to try Sultan's LineageOS and I don't regret it. Now I'm definitely not going back to stock ? I did install OOS camera port to keep the same camera experience and I have to say it works perfectly.

Try vertexos. You'll know how it's better than many many ROMs , putting up to the quality OOS offers. The dev has put in very very high efforts in porting EAS which is a deep pixel exclusive to our device and has made it better than pixel itself. You need to try it out. The other awesome ROM around here is sultan's unofficial CM14 . you can use these until aospa comes.

AOSPA never gonna be released. Their trademark should be FOREVER^TM.
Even Google released the beta android O to test it out.
The release cycle of PA is quite frustrating. Only gonna release of the rom if its stable. What's the point? I'm sure there will be plenty of bugs even after the release.
They should allow users to beta test build so that they can get more feedback to work on, instead of searching for them on their own.
It's been a month from their last post regarding some new update. What's the point of posting a comeback pic if are not gonna keep the fans informed about the rom.
I know we are not paying them and they are doing it in free time but their new egoistic approach towards the release cycle has made things worse to the loyal fans of PA. It's sad that I've to say this one day.
Hope PA stop making further development and stop damaging the name of the best rom during his days.

I think they are very close to release ASOPA, though I'm agree with you. They should have let us test.
Do you know when we can expect a ROM based on Android O?
Can't say for sure. May never see an official release from Nextbit/Razer, but I'm sure custom rom devs will release it when it's ready.

Didn't Nextbit or Razer hire the devs from Paranoid Android? If they are working on the Robin ROM, I'm pretty sure it's safe to say we'll get Oreo. However Razer announced a gaming phone a while ago, so there is no way to tell.

Except those are all fake. The LOS maintainers won't actually know if a device will support LOS 15 until they actually try porting it in the first place. As of now, they haven't tried for the Nextbit Robin yet, so we don't know if the Robin could actually get LOS 15 yet.
If you wanna keep tabs on what devices are currently being worked on, go to https://review.lineageos.org/#/q/statuspen and look for anything being commited to the lineageos-15.0 branch for android_device_nextbit_ether.
Software updates till February as they say on Twitter. Apart from nextbits cloud framework the OS is pretty much stock AOSP and it seems to me they're really good with releasing kernel source and providing updates almost every three months.
Robin, on N, is a mess. If it does eventually get O, it will be a while. We cannot upgrade it to O until we fix out the bugs we have on N first.
What are the bugs on N? I'm thinking about buying one. Is it worth it?

Doesn't make a difference, the code base is a mess. If your buying for a Dev device, dont. Even the top lineage Devs are struggling to make it as stable as it is (and it's not very stable, messy as hell!) As an every day device it's ok but there are better phones now a days in the price range, and support is basically dead for robin now.

Development is not dead at all. Have you seen Gerrit for many of the ROMs??? The CarbonROM Dev already has pushes to Gerrit for O. Lineage still gets device specific changes. ParanoidAndroid has a private kernel source for ether so their working on it behind the scenes. AICP and many other ROMs use the Lineage kernel, so there aren't many differences to those that use that kernel. O development is still ongoing, and this device is still great for the price. The ROMs at the moment, are very stable in my opinion.

I know, I'm the AICP maintainer for ether lol... And discuss with the official lineage maintainers for ether daily ..
I meant official development, btw, meaning a lot of the bugs won't be fixed because we need official updates to be able to fix them.
O development for lineage ether hasn't even begun yet, N bugs need to be fixed before O begins, and that will take awhile.

My apologies if I seemed aggressive. Official development seems to be like any other manufacturer, however, as we all know, software support is ending soon. I've been following Gerrit and have noticed the ongoing development by our developers (including you). IIRC camera was borked on one of the nightlies, but was immediately fixed. IMO, we are now depending on development from our ether devs rather than official support since Nextbit have been ghosting for the past few months.

Keep in mind what DarkExistence said, and realize the Robin's closest equivalent is a Nexus 5. If you can get better & newer hardware for a little more money, do so. I got mine as an "emergency" replacement when I was short on funds a few months ago. I lucked into an eBay sale & discount code which brought the phone to about 100.00. I'm happy with it, but I wish Razer would have made good sources available & gave full permission for them to be hosted elsewhere. So the devs didn't get so frustrated with what should be a decent phone to run custom ROMs on.

Yes, for $130 it's worth buying. The bugs on android N are not nearly as bad as what some claim them to be.
Here's as list of what I can recall:
1. Enhance colors distorts colors (so turn it off)
2. Screen static displays when unlocking phone for 1/10th of a second with some roms
3. You can hear The Speakers turn off after sound has stopped playing if You listen closely
4. Headphones with a mic sometimes cut out and play through internal Speakers although there is as work around for this
5. Audio fx does not work
Other than any of those there is not much i can personally complain about and I own 2 robins. About to get a moto g4 plus because it's time for something that has a larger XDA fourm and something that has been confirmed to get android O (wich nextbit has yet to announce a decision to besides "we have been discussing it").
If I were You and my budget was under $200 i'd get The robin.
If You can spend $225 get The g4 plus without a doubt. Hope this helps

I like it, especially for the price. Currently using CarbonROM rooted with Magisk. Just realize you're getting a phone with zero support from the manufacturer, so don't spend more than you're willing to lose.

Well thank you for being the maintainer on Ether. I just ordered the phone. 129.00 for a phone with these specs. Couldn't pass it up. I'm sure you will eventually make AICP stable. Thank you for your honesty.
Dirty Unicorns Oreo ROM (v12) is entering RC2 status. It would be awesome if someone would step forward to be a Marlin maintainer for DU. I think the Nougat maintainer moved on to another device.
I'd try it myself if I had any free time and the knowledge to build and tune it.
Just throwing it out there.
DU don't want their rom being discussed on XDA I think maybe better to talk about it on their G+ Page. They have a maintainer for Pixel XL, Oreo Branches are their so work is been done on this device. The first wave of RC's was the devices that were ready at the time more will come :good:
Sorry. I wasn't aware of the secrecy / isolation from XDA.
I was probably also looking in the wrong area of github as I didn't see any new Marlin commits.

And do they really have an P-XL maintainer? Last I checked Marlin and Sailfish were not supported devices anymore.

No longer supported. Which is fine the "creator" of Dirty Unicorns is a giant douchebag anyways. I prefer to support devs who aren't huge pricks.
