It looks the situation is all set to change soon as Samsung is gearing up to roll out the Android Oreo update to the Galaxy A8 and A8+. The company has received WiFi certification for these devices with Android 8.0 onboard, hinting that the rollout is around the corner. Certification is one of the few final steps before the release of a new update, so this is a good sign that these handsets will get Oreo sooner rather than later.
Samsung is yet to reveal a roadmap for releasing the said update for the 2018 Galaxy A8 and A8+. It should only be a matter of time now, though, as the company will be updating other mid-range handsets in the coming months and it would almost certainly update the newer and pricier Galaxy A8/A8+ to Oreo before moving further down its smartphone lineup.
Update : Seems like A8+ got Bluetooth Certificate as well , watch this space for confirmation.

This phone very low activity.
Any way two months away from oreo.

Agreed, Maybe if my warranty voids, I will consider making a ROM and Oreo is coming anyway
Samsung is hard to build for but as long that I have root I'm okay.

Exynos chips to be particular, But I feel we should give it a try. I can't see a good device without a good Dev community

I saw this listing in Bluetooth Launch Studio website, I am not sure though. Guess , I have to tune in for people to publish update about it What do you say @mchlbenner

What Interesting is that A8+ is receiving monthly security updates instead of Quarterly security updates listed by Samsung.

Dead.
But Good news Everyone! Android Oreo has started to roll out! Abuse that OTA button and update your Jackpot2lte I am uninstalling all Substratum overlays :cyclops:
You can use Samsung Switch to update your A8/A8+ with Oreo. Heads up if you're impatient with OTA Updates
Got that oreo update finally , thankyou.
The google now launcher is not compatible with this version as it says on play store, could you help me with that?
G5:

G5+:
https://support.motorola.com/us/en/Solution/MS130856
Moto just published Oreo release notes for the G5 possibly for another soak test, I suspect it was also by accident like the one before (for G5s).
Since the G5+ notes have also been released, it could be that this is the final release and all bugs have been squashed with internal testing. I didn't see them posting release notes for soaks before.
Just gonna have to wait and see untill someone gets a notification, official or soak.
finally moto... guess if everything goes OK we'll see an official rollout by the end of july

Please just stop with the speculation. There hasn't been a single release note posted for the g4 yet, so I see no reason for it to get Oreo before the g5 phones

I think you are invited, check your spam for any mails from Moto. If you do get selected, remember to give us some Oreo love by capturing the OTA
Better later than never
Glad to know the devs will have the resources to improve and make even more custom roms stable.

better getting 8.1 late than staying in 8.0 early
it is not a year late though, 8.0 came in august and 8.1 in december, so we are still pretty new to the party.

You have to register your device and then sign it up for the MFN here:
https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/mcp/my_devices
At this point it's unlikely that you will get into the soak, but if there's any issues you might make it into the second one

I'm wondering when we can expect G960U1 to get the pie 9 update?
Also, I flashed from U to U1, will that change anything for me? Will I have to download firmware with the 9 update manually or will it come automatically? Thanks!

There is no exact date for launching Pie on U1 but it will be there in coming weeks. As on locked phones they started rolling out already.
Terribly frustrated u1 owner bere, been waiting for months now. It was way easier to force OTAs when I had a Motorola

True that and i am just wondering why on earth i bought Snapdragon Variant anyway as Samsung only support their own processor first.
It's always that way, Samsung always rolls out updates to the big market carrier phones first and unlocked phones last.

True not too bad, only 2 months after their initial release (Dec 2018). :silly:
It was inferred by Samsung Care yesterday that I shouldn't be surprised with a March OTA.
Regardless, T-Mobile will need to be completed before us and they are still in the "development" phase of OneUI.

Damn, back to development per T-Mobile's website.
Yep, T-Mobile pulled their update because of problems. I'm wondering now if that's going to delay the unlocked update. BTW, the 2/18 date came from a chat someone in the beta forums had with support.

At least we've seen it in the wild now.
they might as well have held off and gave us Q instead. So late. And they don't seem to like unlocking their phones so users can update the software themselves with custom ROMs

So you would rather wait another year to get an OS update? Q won't come until May 2020.

I meant if it would take them till Q launch to release pie they might as well have focused their efforts on Q to launch it in august or whenever it's released. We'll get pie close to it being outdated

They won't release update to Q until they have released new 2019 and 2020 phones with Q. If you have Q in August 2019 on a year-old phone, you won't buy a new Q phone.
That's LG strategy for updates. You get Pie right before or while the new Q phones are being released. You're sure not going to get Q while new Q phones are being released.
