Hi all,
Been loving the Desire so far but this evening I got an mms from a friend, presumably showing me his own new Desire, and while the messaging app shows an unread message waiting it doesn't seem to want to download it.
The picture messaging settings seem accurate in the network settings so I'm at a loss as to what's up. This is all via T-Mobile, as per the subject, and everything configured itself when I put the sim in.
Any ideas?
I'm on t-mobile and receive and send mms mostly okay but there have been occasions where my mms wouldn't send at all. tried a different picture and it worked. I've had problems with mms and t-mobile on my iPhone before I got my Desire so I think it's a problem with t-mobile not the Desire?

You need to enable mms for you account, they are not included in the contract and thus you need to activate them online or by contacting them if it doesn't activate when you receive or send an mms.
All good suggestions, thanks.
I checked my account online and it's set to allow picture messages. I also just sent a picture to a friend, which arrived fine. I did notice that it disconnected from the net both before and after sending, so I'm thinking it's using different settings to send them.
Under Settings/Wireless & Networks/Mobile Networks/Access Point Names it does actually show two connections. One called T-Mobile Internet and one called Picture Message.
They're both very similar, except the T-Mobile Internet has no username/password set and no MMS server details. Also the APN type is set to "default" and "mms" respectively. Wondering if I should try combining the two...
Fake Edit: I just asked the same friend to send me a message back and this time it worked. Guess I just need to keep trying every once in a while to see if it happens again.
T-Mobile accounts generally are enabled for MMS to begin with, but to finalise the settings and actually activate it, you have to SEND an MMS. This activates the service.
Once you have done that, you can then normally receive.
if you hadn't sent an MMS before this, that is probably why.
Yeah that could be it, too; although I'm sure I'd sent MMS messages on my Touch HD before (same SIM). Ah well, it seems to be working for now at least! Thanks again all.
If you're using Handcent for sms / mms, that might also cause your issues...
OK Nexus 5x users. I have searched the web, I've searched the forum, I've searched everywhere I possibly can think of and still can't find a solution. I am on AT&T. I had an iPhone 6s before I bought my Nexus 5x, But from day one I'm not able to receive MMS messages consistently. Everything over 160 characters I don't get. I've tried everything I possibly can find, to no avail. I've messed with APN's, I don't have push bullet installed, I don't have any other text messaging app installed. I still have my iPhone 6s, and I've gone in and disabled face time as well as iMessage and iCloud, so on and so on and so on. I've even tried multiple text messaging apps just to see if that would help. I've installed two different operating systems, however both of them are based on 6.0 .1. For what ever reason no matter what I try no matter what I mess with I can't get any text message that are 161 characters or more to come through. When I reset phone to stock, I can get them to come through for about one minute and then I no longer can get them. I don't install any other apps and they just stop coming through. If I put my Sim card back in the iPhone 6s and make a few texts and then disable iMessage and FaceTime and iCloud again, I can get MMS messages for about one minute and then they stop coming through again. I can send MMS messages just fine I just can't receive them. I see multiple posts on the Internet about this issue with marshmallow. It seems like everybody is able to solve it, "but me". Does anybody on this forum have any idea what I can do to solve this issue?

sorry, are you on custom rom or stock now?
I was having mms issues in verizon. Incoming Mms were delayed for days. None of the recommended apn settings helped, switching between messenger and hangouts saw no change, turning wifi on and off, etc.
I set the apn to restore defaults and now it seems to work, when mobile data is on. Doesnt work when just wifi is on.
Question, is mms over wifi even a feature on Verizon? My Galaxy S4 did not send or receive mms if mobile data was off, one annoying feature because I usually just leave wifi on when home.
But then through some verizon update i could send and receive mms with mobile data disabled, I think it would switch mobile data on momentarily when an mms was incoming or outgoing.
So is there a way to get mms to work with mobile data off on the 5X on verizon?

My 5X does not send mms with mobile data turned off. My S3 was exactly the save before this phone. I'm on Verizon, stock rooted with Ex kernel installed. This didn't work on stock OOTB either. I get notifications if I receive mms and I just turn on my data at that point to download them, if it isn't enabled.

Since you are coming from the iPhone...I wonder if you have to de-register your number from imessages server?

I keep getting notifications of MMS failures... when trying to retrieve and trying to send. When this occurs, I check the APN listing and notice instead of just one APN, my carrier's APN has been automatically duplicated and sometimes triplicated but with missing info in the new APNs such as maybe the MMS proxy or the port will be missing from these new automatically added APN entries - and also the phone has automatically changed to one of the new "bad" APNs. I delete the "bad" APNs, leaving the "good" one and everything works. Few hours later, it does it again. And sometimes it won't do it again at all until I reboot the phone. I just had to go through the process of deleting two new "bad" automatic APN additions because an MMS I was trying to send failed. Checked the APN list and sure enough, the phone had triplicated my carrier's APN and changed itself to use one of those. Deleted both of them and MMS working again. This is really getting annoying. I'm on Cricket Wireless (owned by AT&T using AT&T towers). I just did the Network Settings Reset and when I did that, once it reset everything, sure enough there were two APNs listed for my same carrier and one of them was missing the MMS proxy address. I selected the "good" one and sent a test MMS and it failed. I went back into the APN list and deleted the "bad" one, retried the MMS and it worked.
I'm also not receiving mms but I am on Sprint. How did you access the apn list?
I'm seeing the exact same behavior on my mother-in-law's new Pixel 2 on Cricket. My wife and I both have Pixel 2 XLs on Cricket. I see the duplcation/triplication on our phones as well, but so long as the correct APN is selected, MMS messages send. On the Pixel 2, I also have to delete the "bad" APNs that are missing the MMS proxy and port in order to get MMS to work.
Are these APNs pulled from the SIM or does the SIM connect to Cricket and then download APN information? I'd just like to know if this is a Google problem or a Cricket problem.
Definitely seems to be an issue with Cricket. I've since left Cricket and went to Google's ProjectFi. No problems now and using the Pixel 2 XL's eSIM. I posted about the issue on Google's Help Forums and see there's others having the same issue, all with Cricket. Could be Cricket's SIM cards, could be the Pixel not reading them correctly.

I kind of figured the post on the Google forums was you as well. Unfortunately, Project Fi service doesn't work well enough where I live to be an alternative. Sprint and T-Mobile are pretty much worthless here. I've opened an escalated case with Cricket. I was told I'd hear something back in 3-5 days. I'll let both forums know what I hear back. Glad I'm not alone on this one.

Me too on cricket. I don't think that the APN's are coming from the SIM directly, because I'm using the same SIM I used on my 6P, and it updated to the proper APN over the network when the SIM was inserted into it.
I'm guessing we could go into a Cricket store and get a new SIM if needed? Carrier should definitely have to fix this one. But like you, once fixed mine stays good...

After more experimenting, I have found that this does in fact affect both of the Pixel 2 XLs as well. I don't notice it on my phone because I use Google Voice for my texting which doesn't depend on the carrier's APN settings. Basically, if more than one APN exists and one of them is missing MMS settings such as the MMS proxy and MMS port, MMS does not work. This is true regardless of which APN is chosen as the active APN. If the "good" APN is chosen, but the "bad" APN still exists on the phone, MMS does not work. My phones will hold their settings until they reboot the next time at which point they will redownload the duplicate and bad APN data which will break MMS again.
Samething here but now with 8.1. I have to delete the 2 automated APN's and add a manual one. The manual one is the same info as one of the ones I deleted. After I reboot the APN is set on my manual one but it added the 2 other ones and then I can't send any pictures until I delete the 2 automated ones...WTF!!!!! Things I've done, flashed September, November and December images multiple times, tried different kernels, rooted/unrooted, both unlocks and re-locked, deleted and edited the 3 APN.xml files in system/etc, edited the the file in framework/res but it gave me errors when pushing back to the phone. The sim works fine in nexus 6 and 6p. If this is crickets problem it will never get fixed. So looking at Plan B. Stop the phone from adding APN's. If anyone has any info on how to stop the adding of APN's. You will save my sanity lol.
Anyone else have erratic results with this app? Using it on my s20+ with Tmo us, I can't send txt messages. The store replaced the sim card, still no luck. App works fine on my wife's A71 5g. Switched to the Google messages app and it seems to work fine. I'm a bit puzzled by this. The store tried to tell me that messaging wouldn't work with Wi-Fi calling enabled, but disabling it doesn't seem to be helping. No real problem using Google app, just seems strange.

I have the S20 dual SIM with both Google Fi (TMO Network) and AT&T. I actually switched from Google messages to Samsung messages and have no issues sending our receiving with either Network.
I have the 9810 model.
Thanks for the info. Must be something to do with the version I have or other software on my phone. My messages app is version 11. 1.65.17

I had the same issue before. Biggest pain in the butt. I tried changing sim cards too, asking tmobile to refresh my phone signal with no luck.
What worked for me was deactivating the chat features from the google messages app then waiting like 5 min, just to be safe. Then use my sim card on another phone and turn it on and wait like 5 minutes, for me the refreshing sim data prompt showed up twice. Text some people that use the advanced messages(rcs) with the stock app to make sure it works. Then switch the sim back to my phone and i was able to text the people i used to have issues with fine.
What i figured was the issue was that since you used google messages which used the google jibe servers for rcs, your phone number is still stuck in the servers. I did all that before this form was available to unlink your phone from the jibe servers. Give it a try too.
Anyone else having issues with MMS working since the latest update? I updated to NX659J_ECommon_V3.13 and ever since I can't get my MMS working. Everything else works like SMS and internet, but I can't send picture messages or group text. Before the update I was able to send MMS just fine, but I had stopped using the phone for about 2 months. This is because there were to many issues with the OS for me to use it as my daily driver (no custom Launchers, can't have battery percentage in the notification bar, NFC didn't work with google pay, no face unlock). I saw that this update fixed all these things, so I quickly grabbed my phone and updated to it. And I can say that all of those issues have been resolved (well I don't know about google pay as I haven't gone to the store yet to test, but I guess it is). The thing is now, my MMS doesn't work. I have gone through all the messaging settings on the phone and looked at my APNs and made sure they were correct. Spent an 1 1/2 hour on the phone with T Mobile going over those same settings and APNs yesterday. I'm pretty sure the issue is the phone/update because the SIM works fine in my other phones. I really am hoping for another update or that someone has a quick fix because I would really like to make this phone my main phone. It's a great phone, with a good build quality and get specs. I got 5G on this thing and with the custom launcher, all the grips about the OS are pretty much mute. But it just seems to always have 1 (or more things) that don't work. Anyone else dealing with this or have any ideas? Below are my phone specs.
Model: NX659J
Red Magic OS: V3.0
Build Number NX659J_ENCommon_V3.13
Launcher: Nova Launcher
Message App: Messages by Google
Cellular Provider: T-Mobile
I'm on ATT in SoCal and am not having any issues with MMS.
Have you installed any VPN or ad block apps?
MMS working fine in Canada with v.3.13 - I'm using Textra though, but I'm sure Messages is working fine too.
APN settings would be my first suspect, otherwise, double check your carrier has it enabled for your account.

Nope. I had a couple different messaging apps on it, so I uninstalled those to make sure that those weren't causing the issue. I might just do a factory reset on it.

I did all of the APN settings check and I have MMS enabled on my account. I ended up just doing a factory reset on the phone and now everything works. Thanks for you suggestions.
Hello everyone, I'm in Canada and as soon as I did the software upgrade to 3.13 3 days ago I can no longer connect to my mobile network for data and mms, calls and text work,WiFi is fine so far, I did a factory reset. I did call my provider and double checked that all was good on their end and apparently it is, except the fact that my EMEI number from my phone can not be entered on their system. I was wondering if that is the problem. Also setting up APN address does not work I get an error message " carrier does not allow APNs of type *. Any ideas of what is going on...
Thanks everyone
