How does the G3 compare to my S5 and M8? My mini review.

So after using the G3 for about a week, I picked up an S5 also to compare it to. My G3 will be replacing my HTC One M8.
Performance initially was disappointing, seemed to microstutter everywhere which gives a perception of a laggy device. At first I was very upset but after putting all 3 devices side by side and running and opening apps ect., the G3 is just as quick, if not quicker then the S5 and M8 when opening and switching apps, the key difference here are in the animations.
The S5 and M8 are very consistent with smooth app opening, closing and switching animations. Always seems to run fluid 90-100 percent of the time, the G3 struggles to render them smoothly consistently. The animation stutters, stutters, then closes and vise versa when it opens on many occasions. Drove me insane! In-app performance are pretty much identical between the 3 with scrolling a tiny bit smoother on the S5 and M8.
Screen quality, I would have to give the win to the HTC M8 out of the box, because of the weird over sharpening high contrast setting LG decided to use, text on the G3 looks lower resolution than the HTC as a direct result. Colors on the G3 also looks a little washed out compared to the M8 and S5 out of the box, BUT...you can change the contrast ratio on the G3 in the accessibility menu and make the colors pop to your hearts desire. Very nice.. M8 also has better black levels than G3.
Don't get me started with the S5's screen, I can't believe one report actually gave it the "best display ever tested" title. Looks like garbage compared to the G3 and M8. No matter what setting I chose, adapt display, professional, cinema ect, it was way over saturated to the point where the colors look almost neon like. Everything looks lower resolution also, I blame TouchJizz mostly because once you switch to a different launcher like Nova, the icons look sharper but still not on par with the M8 or G3. The S5's display looks "Okay" once you crank the brightness past 75 percent, anything under that and the screen just looks terrible. Maybe my eyes have gotten accustomed to IPS LCD, I can't see myself going back to AMOLED. If this is the best that AMOLED can offer at the moment.. NO THANKS!
Camera, lets make this simple. The S5 takes the best pictures overall. It also records the best video with options for full 60fps in 1080p. G3 is a close second but the colors just doesn't seem to look as nice as the S5's, clarity and details are similar but the S5 exposes the picture better. HDR is also better on the S5. M8 takes very nice close up and macro shots but sucks big time when you try and take a scenery shot I really haven't tried much night time photography so I can't comment on that.
Battery life, S5 and G3 seems to be neck and neck lasting my entire work day with heavy use, the M8 trails behind and needs to be plugged in for my drive home.
Design and in hand usage. This is very subjective, I find the S5 the most comfortable to hold but it's also the most godawful looking. There's no denying it, the S5 is one ugly phone compared to the other two. Looks and feels terribly cheap, huge bezels giving the phone a very dated look. M8 looks great, build quality is nice but it's also very uncomfortable to use. It's slippery, the edges are sharp and it's just a pain (literally) to hold on to. It just doesn't give you a reassuring feel when using it especially over any hard surface. It also feels a lot heavier. The G3 is the perfect blend between the two, it looks beautiful, perfectly weighted, comfortable to hold, feels solid in the hand and has just enough "grip". Hands down I think it looks the best, just gorgeous.
Audio, as you guessed it the HTC One M8 tops it here, it sounds great with the Boom sound external speakers and with headphones plugged in. Bluetooth audio streaming also sounds very clean with the M8, the G3 matches the M8 in headphone audio output and bluetooth streaming quality but obviously gets smoked when it comes to external speaker quality. G3 still sounds very loud and pretty full for having only one rear firing mono speaker. The S5 is the worst performer here, headphone audio performance is just dismal compared to the other two even after playing with the built-in EQ. Bluetooth audio streaming on the S5 is also weak, audio tracks sound very degraded over bluetooth. Another weird issue I had with the S5 was it didn't play nicely with my Lexus Mark Levinson system, I had to crank the volume to twice the level to get the same output as the M8 and G3. (Yes, the bluetooth output volume was set to max on the S5) The S5's external speaker is also the tinniest, almost painful to listen to at higher volumes. It has piercing highs with no mids or lows. I guess when you make the phone IP67, sacrifices must be made.
Conclusion, as you can see all the phones have their pros and cons but overall I think we all made the right decision with the G3. I've been on a search for the "perfect" phone since I can remember, for me at the moment, the G3 is the closest one yet. I'm sure performance will improve with updates so I am excited for the G3's future. I'm also glad I gave it a second chance, I literally had it all boxed up with the return label slapped on it back to T-Mobile. Looks like it will be sticking with me for a little bit longer.

Here's my copy and paste from another site reviewing the same three phones. This may be a good thread for people to detail their experience with the three big players.
"Alright so I've had it a few days now and here's what I think of it. Out****ingstanding.
Hardware - The metal looking plastic back is actually pretty nice. I think it actually has some metal in it, it doesn't feel plastic and cheap in the hand like the GS5 does. It doesn't have the heft of the M8 but it's also not as slippery as the M8 either. It's just about right. It's removable so it's easy to throw a spare battery in your car or camera bag or pocket or whatever if you're going to be out all day. That being said, the battery life is surprisingly good given the resolution/size of the display. Which brings me to the display. It's also outstanding. The first G3 I got had a weird yellowish tint to the display, did a little research and it seems there's some inconsistency among the displays from manufacture, I took it back to T-Mobile and they swapped it out without any hassle. It's huge, it's bright, it's incredibly sharp. There really isn't much bad I can say about the display. The buttons on the back took a little getting used to, but after a day you're used to them and it's actually quite natural to use them. The camera is awesome, I think it's bright light capabilities are on par or better than the M8 and definitely better than the S5. Under lower light it's at least on par or slightly better than the S5 and ****s on the M8. The OIS and "frikkin laser" focus is awesome, makes it really easy to pull it out and snap a pic really quick without the fuss the other two give. Wireless charging is available with an appropriate back cover, but more on that later. The single rear speaker is similarly placed to the S5 but it's much louder and your hand doesn't muffle it in regular use. Clarity is much better than the S5 as well. The M8 destroys all comers in this area with it's front facing speakers.
Software - The LG overlay is actually quite nice. I think it's just as good as HTC's Sense and kicks Touchwhiz in the grundel. It's easy enough to disable most stock LG apps if you want to. There's a faint touch of lag to the OS, not as bad as Touchwhiz but just a hair worse than Sense. If you kick the animations down to 0.5x from 1x in developer options it goes away. There's a health app, the people on xda seem to like it a lot but I don't use it.
Daily use - This thing really shines. The size is marginally bigger than the others in one dimension or another, but the shape of the back cover makes it perfectly comfortable to use and it doesn't feel at all as big as it actually is. The M8 feels really skinny next to it and the S5 feels like a giant, rectangular brick. Easy to use one handed, especially with the rear buttons. The OIS of the camera is really quite good and it's probably the first Android phone I've used that I think has a camera comparable to the quality output from the iPhones under all scenarios. Battery life has been great, I can easily get through a whole 12 hour shift at work and have plenty of battery to spare and I use the phone quite heavily and have music playing probably 10 of those 12 hours.
Signal strength - So I originally got the AT&T version before realizing those ****s disabled Qi charging in favor of PMA so I actually have some experience with the d850 (ATT) and d851 (TMo). The modems are the same between the two, the only hardware difference between the two devices I believe is AT&T's hardware removal of Qi. Both phones were on the same rev and they picked up signal the same as the S5 and a little worse than the M8 on AT&T. I have all Qi stuff so I said **** it and switched to TMo and have been quite pleasantly surprised. Their service in my area is great (better than AT&T coverage was) and the calls/sms/mms over WiFi is actually awesome, especially at work as most of the hospital is well insulated from outside communication. I also have unlimited everything for about $40/mo less than I was paying for 4gb at AT&T.
Advanced nerdy stuff (root) - If you root the phone, which is available for all variants and most with a one click utility, then the thing outshines the other 2 on all fronts. There's a mod for camera quality that kicks the image quality above the other 2 under all lighting conditions and increases the video recording quality to 1080p/60 and increases the bitrate of the 4k recording. There's a tweakbox that lets you customize the LG overlay to your personal taste and with a couple minor tweaks it is fastest experience of the 3. You can tinker with the volume of the speaker and the volume increments which is needed (30 vs stock 15 options). Then of course you can use Titanium Backup to freeze/uninstall all the carrier bloat. Xposed Framework of course brings hundreds of mods for just about anything you'd want to do.
Overall - Out of the box within confinements of not being rooted 9/10

I agree with most of what you said, except I think the S5 has a better screen overall. I came from a Note 2, so I am used to the saturated colors. But regardless of your preference of saturated vs natural colors, I think most people would agree that the S5 has better brightness and viewing angles. I also think text on the G3 is oversharpened/overprocessed.
I think LG got the "feel" of the G3 just right. The S5 is a freaking brick and looks like it was beaten with an ugly stick. The M8 is disproportionately tall, and also heavy & slippery.
As far as sound, the G3 falls in between. The S5 speaker is anemic. The M8 blows everything else out of the water. I always listen to music via headphones or my car system. But if you absolutely *must* listen to audio via speakerphone, then the M8 has no equal. I must admit, sharing videos with friends is a much more pleasant experience on the M8. The G3 speaker does a respectable job, but you still have to cup your hand around the back to hear anything (at least at my age).
Despite its flaws (which are very minor), I think the G3 is the phone to beat this year. The Note 4 will no doubt offer some serious competition, but I think the Note line targets a different demographic. People that don't want or need the Note's special features will probably find the G3 to be an almost perfect compromise of size, features and performance.

I don't have my G3 yet, but based on images I've seen online, I, ever so slightly, prefer the G3's photos as it seems to get slightly better detail. What I mean is that, at least from what I'm seeing, it looks like the S5 is trying to over-sharpen details in software instead of just using what is available through the sensor. For instance, outlines of leaves in front of the bright sky shows a tiny bit extra outlining to me.
Oddly enough, this shouldn't be the case since the S5 has a slightly larger sensor, more megapixels and a slightly wider aperture @ f/2.2. Perhaps that new isocell sensor isn't all it's cracked up to be or maybe they just haven't fine tuned the software for it. However, with the G3 you also get dual flash, which is a feature that might come in handy for macro shots, and there is that laser focus thingy the G3 has. So, I dunno, I was leaning towards the S5 myself, but after seeing test photos and reading reviews about all the other aspects of the phone itself I went with the G3.
Perhaps completely manual shooting with the S5 would render better results than the G3.
In the end though, I just wanted something that could compete with my old T-mobile 4G Slide. My Google Nexus 4 certainly didn't and I'm glad it's paid off and done with.

Have to disagree there, I think the G3 pictures are better. I took some pics of my car today and was actually quite impressed with how they came out compared to similar shots at the same place and same time of day and same subject matter. I do agree the HDR shots from the S5 are better, but who uses that anyway

I wonder if it is due to the lens itself?
Perhaps the G3 is using a better lens (Sony?) and it is of better quality than what Samsung is using on the S5. There is actually a list of people with cracked and broken S5 lenses, so I'm guessing the glass they are using isn't very good.
From what I've seen, the M8 appears to take cleaner night shots, at least with macro and no flash, However; I do not know how low the ISO settings will go with it. I think the G3 can do ISO 50, so if the image stabilization is as good as LG claims and the focus laser is really fast it should end up taking pretty good night shots in manual mode.
In the end I think all three are good cameras for a cell phone, I just feel like the G3 has more options for covering different kinds of shooting. Then again, I haven't used any of these phones personally yet.:silly:

Also, have you taken many pictures in low light? It's my understanding that the g3 has a much better camera for low light than the s5. It's not as good in direct sunlight, but better everywhere else making it a better "overall" camera. I don't have an s5 to compare the G3 to, so I'm just going off what I've read. It would be nice to hear from someone that has both.

This is the worst I've heard in the past few years, as far as bluetooth media pairing goes..
it sounds like the bit rate of a 320 mp3 goes down to 96 or 128.
I'm quite concerned about this...
I'm pairing up to a VW/Dynaudio setup.
Iphone, GS4, lumia 925...all sound 10x better.
did you do any bluetooth tweaks?

The M7/M8 have front facing stereo speakers. The G3 has one small speaker on the back, facing away from the user. Sorry, but no amount of mods will make the G3 external speaker sound like the M7/M8.

If you are used to Nexus devices better switch to Pixel.
Tbh Ive used a lot of phones and the pictures and videos Ive made with them in the last years are all good.
If you want outstanding picture or video quality you have to use a DSLR or Video Camera.
But I would send that ugly brick called 6p to hell and use anything but it.

I'm gonna copy my experience I wrote this morning from another thread:
- Design and Build Quality:
The design is better on the HTC 10. It feels great in your hands, and it's a really solid little tank, seeming to be way more robust than the 6P. The 6P was well built, but I wouldn't say it was top notch (gaps between display glass and frame, camera visor, etc.) - Whereas I would consider the HTC 10 to be one of the best built phones I ever held in my hands. Really. Worth to note are the fantastic buttons and their Layout, which wasn't great on the 6P. Also, the size is simply perfect for my hands. I don't miss the size of the 6P, the HTC feels especially better in one hand and never feels too small to me. By the way:
<- This is straight Nokia 3310 quality and it definitely feels like that.
- Display:
Where I was the most sceptical about was the Display. I sweared to me to never buy a phone without an AMOLED display again, since the black levels on my last iPhone 6 and f.e. one of my older HTC M7 were straight horrible. Light grey, to be precise. And I just can't stand that. I gotta say, that I'm still insanely surprised about the HTC 10s display. You would almost think that it has actually an AMOLED display since the colors pop and shine. It's not as unnatural as the 6Ps display, I would say it's overall more appealing than the AMOLED one (what I didn't expect at all). Also the black levels: in darker rooms, they seem to be dark grey, which is fantastic. You won't notice the not-black-to-black-bezel until you really focus on it.
- Sound Quality:
The 6P was (especially with some EX tweaking) way, way louder while the HTC 10 is clearer and sounds more 'full' and also warmer, especially in near field, f.e. while laying in bed and watching videos our listening to music. But when you want to fill a bigger room or want to 'party' outside, you definitely need some Bluetooth speakers - it was possible with the 6Ps volume, tho.
- Camera:
The app is without a doubt so much better than the Google camera. The auto point and shoot mode isnt nearly as good as the 6Ps (I miss the Auto HDR mode in darker situations that made photos so much noiseless), but with at least some easy tweaking (EV), you get some great quality photos that CAN come out way better and more interesting than out of the 6Ps camera. Not to mention the fantastic manual mode... Oh boy! OIS on both cameras is a great thing, and the selfie camera also is a great to have thing, since it is really, really good.
- Battery life:
Yes, the battery life... I was surprised, but I can also assure you that it was and is - out of the box - so much better than the Nexus 6Ps. I still can't find out why, but the 6P gave me like ~3h SOT at max, even with some Kernel tweaking. With the HTC 10, I get like 4-5h at least, and I never had problems to get through 2 busy days. I am sure that their is some more potential, when you notice some people in the Battery Life Thread having more than 7h SOT. That was the biggest Wow factor and surprise to me.
- OS:
Hell, I don't miss stock Android. Not. A. Little. I would go even further and say that HTC did the best interpretation of Android with their Sense UI so far. It feels like stock Android in every way, but the feature set is so much better, you honestly need to experience it. Camera app, Display settings, Sound tweaking, Display gestures, Night light, some great HTC Widgets and Apps (which you won't even notice if you don't use them), etc. etc. It's just really well thought and implemented, and I gotta salute HTC for doing such a great job of adding features while maintaining the stock Android feeling. Did I mention the performance is also incredible and better (yes, better) than the 6Ps? It just feels more fluid and quick when you actually use it. In every situation. The 6P sadly had some let downs, not bad, but they occured sometimes. Maybe due to the SD810.
If you want to know anything else, just tell me.
All in all, it was definitely worth it. At least to me. I owned 3 Nexus devices so far: Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 5 and Nexus 6P. I don't regret it a single day. Considering the price of about 400€ for a HTC 10 and the disaster the Pixel actually is (Price, Design - Seriously, it looks like a fat plastic phone for 9 years olds), I can just recommend the same for you. If you want to mod, you can mod easily, but once again, I didn't even root the 10 and it still is an amazing phone, since it's truely feature rich. It has no true weaknesses, unlike the Nexus 6P. It feels way better and more safe in your hand, unlike the 6P. It's way more solid and simply a beauty.
You can't go wrong with it. But it really depends on what you actually want to do with and expect from your phone.
Oh, and switching over to the 10 is fine. Sense UI looks and feels like Android, even more, it feels like what (Stock) Android should really be. The tweaks and features HTC implemented are great. And again: if you want it like stock Android, you can have it like stock Android - just don't use the (hidden) HTC stuff. This might be the only thing you will regret tho. :d

Keep it. I selled my samsung s8 and buy the 5T. I am not sorry for the choice i've made.

The nonsense about the camera is overblown. They are comparing it to the Google Pixel or iPhone 8 x.
PIXEL xl screen is nowhere is good as the 5T IMHO.
My camera takes as good a photo as my daughters iPhone 7plus. Actually, better at times.
If you want a good a camera, go buy a Canon DSLR and lenses for $15,000.
With that said, do what you want. Nobody really cares and it is your decision and money. If a camera is that important, move on.
BTW, I've been a HTC person since the Google Nexus One, HTC 7, 8, 9, 10, A9 and so forth, like 8+yrs. The OnePlus 5T is better than anything HTC has out there. Camera is as good/better than HTC phones. They've never had a great camera, but still one of the most popular phone. Only thing I miss, HTC has one of the best Dev support on the Forum going for it...but OnePlus is doing OK, and works very similar to the HTC brand when it comes to modding/Dev support...just a better phone though.

I honestly think it depends what you're used to. I've been using cheap Jiayu and Xiaomi devices for years now. I love the 5T but for me this cost more than my last three phones combined. I love the speed of it, the ample RAM and generous storage, but it's not 3x better than my last phone. I dislike the yellowy tint of the Amoled screen compared to my last LCD, but I don't regret the purchase at all. It's a great device.
As far as the camera goes, it's honestly fine. More than anything I hate the awful panorama mode that results in a less than impressive image unless you can hold the phone totally level (in portrait) as you pan round.
Finally, I really miss the Xiaomi one handed mode. Also, the screen doesn't dim as far as my last Xiaomi.
I'm nit picking though. I bought my partner one and she absolutely loves it!

I recently sold my Galaxy S8+ to buy a OnePlus 5t. So a comparison, what I really liked about the S8+...
1. The camera, it's one of the very best single lens cameras on a smart phone. It's hard to fault in a wide variety of situations and more often you will come away with a more than satisfactory snap.
2. The build quality is an eye to behold it's a stunningly beautiful piece of engineering, looks amazing.... But it does come at a cost, which I'll explain in the dislikes.
3. The Samsung experience is a lot better than in the past with many options for customisation.
And here's what I disliked and why I changed....
1. I love the whole Google lightweight approach. Much of Samsung's value added software is bloatware that simply doesn't add enough perceived value for the hassle it so often causes. Bixby is the crowning glory, it completely gets in your way unlike the Google assistant. Other problems Sammy proprietary software causes is slowdown, some is immediately noticeable, some happens over time. And of course the Sammy 'look' which is very different from stock. I particularly disliked Samsung's redesign of the quick settings pulldown.
2. That beautiful piece of engineering isn't without its problems. The widely reported badly placed finger print reader being a constant annoyance.... But there's more.....fgs don't drop it at any height. Mine ended up as an insurance repair twice in the space of 3 months. A massive handset encased in glass...equals a very delicate and easy to slip out of your hands device. I also noticed that GG5 scratches very, very easily especially around the curved edges of that screen.
3. For a flagship phone under android 7 it was simply too slow, far too much attention has been paid on improving Samsung's own software and not enough on optimization of the OS in general. If I can commend them on one thing though, they have decoupled their software from the OS which meant updates come thick and fast and no longer require an entire system update.
So I've had my 5t for about a week and immediately loaded the open oreo beta, here's what I like....
1. The hardware, apart from the camera is first rate. I cannot fault it. For the money its staggering.
2. Build quality is sound. It's a good looking handset that doesn't try to over do it!
3. Absolutely love the face unlock and fingerprint reader, and while I accept face unlocks not as secure as iris.... Both methods piss all over the S8 for speed.
4. Its daaaaaaaaammmmnn fast! In day to day use.
5. Dash charge is daaaaaaaaammmmnn fast! And battery life is excellent
6. I have a pretty much stock android experience and I can disable any system app that has a better Google (or third party) replacement on play store.
And my dislikes....
Yep, the camera....I think they could still improve more in software though, but the two rear lenses of pretty much the same type is a gimmick and offers little more than what you can do with one. Portrait mode in my opinion would've been better remaining a completely software option in favour of a true 2x zoom lens with a slightly better aperture for low light shots over the original 5.
In low light I think we all agree for a phone to have not one but two f1.7 lenses, low light shots are still disappointing.

Yep, the camera....I think they could still improve more in software though, but the two rear lenses of pretty much the same type is a gimmick and offers little more than what you can do with one. Portrait mode in my opinion would've been better remaining a completely software option in favour of a true 2x zoom. Maybe with a slightly better aperture for low light shots.
In low light I think we all agree for a phone to have not one but two f1.7 lenses, low light shots are still disappointing.

If you are into camera, just don't buy it. It is one of the worst I have used. It's great for other things. But camera is just so bad!

It's the best phone I have ever owned. I used to root all my phone to get the same experience I'm getting from oos stock.
I don't have any issue with the camera, I experienced the oil painting in some low light indoor conditions but mostly it's doing pretty well.

Someone tell me to which phones does the camera compares? Like which old flagships have more less the same camera quality...?

One more thing...this applies to many other phones...no SD Card for external storage. Samsung S8+ really was the perfect phone for me...with one huge problem, no bootloader unlocking and Dev support. Rooting breaks everything, Safetynet etc...Samsung for US customers really dropped the ball, or else it would be a killer on the XDA forum...hence, why the XDA Samsung forum sections are anemic....not much you can really do and you are stuck with their "experience" besides changes the launcher.
OnePlus 5T has been great so far for the money. Better than any HTC that is made today I've used for nearly 8 yrs.

Is the A70 worth it?

It seems that this phone has a lot of issues and problems that are constantly being ignored or not cared about by Samsung.
Is this phone worth it, or am I better off selling it and buying an A50 which seems to have the attention of Samsung? Because The A50 has gotten so many updates compared to the A70 that is still on Security patch level: May.

I've had an A70 for about a month now and it's one of the best phones I've ever had. Battery averages at two days, screen is bright and always legible in bright sunlight, phone is fast and smooth. Fingerprint unlock used to be crap but updates have made it work ok. Face recognition is good. Camera is pretty good - again it's improving with updates.
I think it's the best phone for the price.

Have not had any problem with this phone. To be honest, worth every Penny I paid for it.

At the moment I don't have one as my contract is due for an upgrade in October. But I as usual I have been doing research about this device and I must say the pro out weighs the cons by a mile. All the you tube reviews from unboxing to month on reviews are all positive. I am even overlooking the A80 as the A70 offers so much more for my money. Stick to your phone bud. I have been using a V30 and S8+ for the last year (1 was a personal device and the other as work phone). Performance on both phones was identical, with the key differences being the camera (better on the v30) and the ergonomics (v30 won this as well). Most recently I purchased the A70 and have been using it as my daily driver for the last 2 weeks or so. I have the A70 setup exactly the same way as both the V30/S8+. Same apps, settings, etc. I can say from a performance point of view, I have not missed the V30/S8+ at all. The A70 runs the same apps without any noticeable performance difference. I am not a huge gamer but there are a few that are always installed on my phones.. and they run the exact same on the A70, as they did on the S8+/V30. I haven't seen a difference in load times, or graphics and performance has been the same. Camera quality is pretty good. I thought Id miss the wide angle from the V30 but the A70 has it as well. Front camera on the A70 is much better than both the S8 and the nearly useless front cam on the v30. Battery life is fantastic. I get 2 days usage from the A70, whereas the S8+ gave me 1 day. Audio quality to my ears is the same. That is a lot considering the A70 runs on the SD675 and the V30/S8+ on the SD 835. The display is crisp and what you expect from a samoled. I would say yes, the phone is def worth it. Removable storage, huge battery, fantastic 1080p display, BT 5.0. and great performance. This phone has met all my expectations.. and I am glad I bought this rather than an s10+ which is more than double the cost of this phone.

As Stillriza I used a S8+ (for 2 years). I now have the A70 since 1.5 months. The fingerprint unlock is good since last software update (when it is difficult I honestly have an explication such as finger is just coming out of water, long pressure on the finger...).
The 32Mp camera is good outside by day but the quality decreases when the light is decreasing (much worse than the camera of the S8+).
I haven't notice any slowdons on apps compared to S8+.
The screen has a lower resolution than the S8+ one but bigger. It is really not visible and it is very good and effective in the sun.
I will keep this "pocket computer" for a long time. I think it really worth its price.

i owned the phone before, if you want my advice: forget samsung and go for xiaomi mi 9t (redmi k20) as i did, you will not regret it.

Yes i'm totally happy with my a70, not a perfect device but exceeded my expectations by miles
I will list cons only here:
1-white colour has a tint to it, but no problem may be the amoled nature or my calibration
2-prefer stock android, but one ui is so good
3-no twrp or easy root and custom roms yet, but i will wait
4-no stereo speakers, but the included speaker is loud enough
other than than all are pros not cons

I like it. it's not perfect but it has better native apps than most phones I've owned.
fingerprint sensor is nearly impossible to get to work
but the phone has a night mode for its settings. has a great onboard keyboard. it has its own app store, theme store.
File explorer is very usable. I'm off 3rd party apps for the most part.
The music app is super fast to load the artworks. Sees most artworks. takes 48 hours but indexed my 300GB music and loads entire list (all have artworks) in real time. Really imperfect but very fast, great music app by Samsung.
Then there is the RAM Memory optimizer under settings; device care; then memory button. On other phones I have had lately, this can take a long time. Have to go in apps in settings and do each one individually.

My phone gets 1 bar of signal strength less than my other phones but despite that I love this phone.
Fingerprint reader performance is livable. (A sweaty thumb on glossy glass is prone to cause difficulties with finger print reading, even on Iphones. So I can deal with it. - Try storing fingerprint data with a wet finger? Seems to have helped.)
The camera with the G-cam app is very good, and even so I still find myself using the Samsung camera app more often for its features and the polish of the app. - The panoramic shot is a full 360 degrees and better than my Iphone7. I like the hyperlapse and slowmotion. HOwever, this phone is definitely not a camera phone and won't take steady videos.
The native file explorer app and video player app are great.
The 20:9 aspect ratio is perfect for phones. You get so much usable real estate and yet a slimmer form factor that is much more practical for one handed use and for keeping in your pockets.
I love the ONE UI interface. I have it navigation bar set to invisble and I'm using gestures.
Compared to my previous phone it's thinner as well and feels great. It does not feel like a cheap phone at all. It feels solid and well produced.
I have the one in white. Paid $370 for it.

I got the samsung a70. I like the phone's 6.7 inch display. But the aspect ratio makes it a bit narrow. That's why I'm thinking about getting the huawei mate 20x which has a 7.2 inch screen. Do you think I should stay with this phone or buy the mate 20x?

Register 3 fingerprints of the same finger and it'll work seamlessly.

the only thing better in a70 is the battery and a little bit the screen colors "but with ugly notch"... as for performance, camera..etc the mi9t is a superb phone.

Seems like the Mi9T doesn't have an SD slot?

I have my A70 for a good amount of time to speak about it.
I really like the device. It's fast, reliable and it was a surprise to me that it can hold two sim cards and a microSD card at first. I remember that I was astornished by it's beautiful, shiny back, but that's a personal prefference. I only found 3 problems with this phone that gladly doesn't bother me that much.
Starting with the back, it's really, REALLY easy to scratch it. Mine, even if it was in the case, have some scuffs on the back. It's plastic, not as much resistable as the glass is, but I was aware of that when I was buying it. Kinda shame.
Secondly, the bezels are very small and I have big hands so sometinmes I touch the screen when I don't want to or being aware of. A bigger case like one of those armor cases should fix my issue, but that adds to the size of the phone which, I am not sure if I want right now.
Lastly, the cursed fingerprint scanner. It doesn't work all the times, but the updates seems to give it a bit of speed and accuracy, failed attempts to read out the fingerprint significantly decreases.
Overall. I think the phone is worth the money but again, that's my perspective.

I own the a70. But I'm thinking of switching to the huawei mate 20x which has a 7.2 inch screen. Do you think its worth buying the mate 20x and selling the a70 for half an inch inch difference in screen size?

Hi all, I am thinking of finally upgrading my Google Pixel 2 with a new phone. I am looking into this phone along with the Nord 2. I am curious how good this phone is. I am really pleased that there are tons of custom ROMs available for this compared to nothing for the Nord 2 so that is a huge plus already.
I want to know if the camera quality is good. Compared to the Google Pixel 2, would you say the camera quality is decent for this phone? Is the battery life good? I really wish to get 2 days of battery on moderate use from my phone, is that possible with this phone? Is the fingerprint sensor on the side reliable? I noticed that under screen fingerprint sensors are usually not very accurate. But this one has a side mounted one, so hopefully it is better. And lastly is the vibration motor high quality? Some cheap phones like the Samsung A52 5G have crappy vibration motors making it feel very cheap. And how is the sound quality in phone calls?
That is a LOT of questions! I hope to get some good feedback from you all so that I can make a decision. Thanks a lot!

Every single feature that's flagships quality is broken in aosp ROMs . Camera , Display ( Jagged edges on corners , touch stuttering , much lower touch polling and who knows what else , all ik is that touch feels like ass compared to stock ROM ) , charging...
You won't like miui for one or another reason guaranteed... It's loaded with very nice features but miui has something called adaptive refresh rate which is a fancy word for dogshet display refresh limiting that you can't even disable - refresh rate jumping all around 60 - 120hz.
I bought this phone thinking its loaded with good hardware and software support can be achieved via aosp , but no. Everything is closed source , lots of stuff is broken and the very little that someone gets to work is closed source and not shared with other ROM developers....
That on top of snapdragon 870 being the very worst processor you can get. 865 and 888 are much better processors performance wise after overclock/undervolt.
If you can I'd save the money and get a phone next year January/February once newer generations come. If you can't wait then maybe get a cheap snapdragon 888 phone ( Use kimovil to find which one that is but it sells for 400$ ... I really regret not getting that one ).
I'd sell this piece of sheet phone in a blink of an eye , I paid 500$ for it and now I doubt I'd be able to sell it for even 200-250$ lmfao.

Performance wise aosp is decentish, but severely falls behind miui... Arrow os comes up to pretty much same benchmark results as stock miui but still fps ain't even close to being stable like on miui.
Touch is the major deal breaker for me , arrow os is almost there but I can still feel the touch lagging behind my finger... Something you don't see on miui.
I just wanted a phone good enough to play games on ... but I spent last 2 months or whatever running around like a dog trying out various ROMs with every single one lacking something that's a deal breaker. I even went back to miui but gave up and went back to aosp once I couldn't disable dynamic refresh rate.
I hate this phone now with passion , community might be able to cook something up close to miui in 6months , a year , who knows when but I'll be getting myself a better phone ASAP

I don't know exactly why Rstment has so many problems, my phone has been running pretty smooth for the last month. On AOSP ROMs the only issue I have is broken pocket mode, which I read should be working on some of them but I can't find the time to switch ROM and reinstall everything at the moment.
I run the phone at fixed 120 Hz and it's super smooth. I don't understand how someone can say that the touch response is laggy because it's basically instantaneous. The phone runs at something like 340 Hz touch sampling, which is WAY overkill. Performance is the #1 reason to get this phone. It's really, really smooth and much better than most phones in the same price range. It also doesn't get warm during normal use (I really don't game much, but it stays cool even when I do). The screen is plenty bright and it has decent colors, with excellent contrast being OLED.
Back to your questions...
Camera is average. Don't expect miracles, it takes pretty good pictures with gcam, but it can't compete with proper flagship phones. I don't have a pixel 2, but I'd be surprised if the camera quality is better.
Battery life is pretty good, especially considering the performance. Maybe not 2 days with moderate use, but more than one day for sure. I charge it up to 85% once a day and I rarely go below ~10%.
The fingerprint reader works fine, it's quick and reliable. Nothing to complain there.
The vibration motor is a linear motor, so it's pretty good! It's not iphone-like, but noticeably better than basically every other phone in this price range.
The two things people seem to complain about are a green tint on the top of the screen and the proximity sensor.
In my case the green tint is almost unnoticeable (I can only barely notice if you have the brightness at 0 in a dark room and the screen is dark grey). The proximity sensor is... weird, as it uses other sensors to "guess" where you're holding the phone, including the gyro. If you reply to a phone call with your head somewhat vertical it works fine, but if you do something like lying down in the middle of a call it can act up.

Ok, good to know. Is the performance with custom ROMs like LineageOS etc snappy? I expected the camera to be not that great as it is a budget phone but I hope it is good enough and not total crap. And what do you mean by linear vibration motor?

I've only used AOSP roms, so I can't compare with MIUI. My wife has MIUI on her phone and I hate it so much I just waited a week to unlock my bootloader without even using the phone. So yes, performance on AOSP roms is fine (haven't tried Lineage specifically, but it should be similar).
Vibration motors can come in two shapes: rotating and linear. The rotating one is much smaller (and I assume cheaper), which is why it's the most used in cheap phones, but the linear one is much better. Compared to my old oneplus 6 this phone's vibration is both much stronger and more silent. It's also... more accurate? As in it can produce a very sharp, short vibration.

a decent phone. the performance it's good and aosp roms have improved in the last months... (crdroid, arrow os and havoc os are the most stable roms that i have flashed).
pocket mode and aod are broken in aosp roms, they drain a lot of battery.
