Every time I try to open a downloaded PDF I get an error that it won't open. I tried uninstall and reinstall of Acrobat, still no luck. It is almost like the extension isn't assigned. If I open Adobe first then look for the file, that works. Any idea how to set default apps for extensions on an Android? Never had this issue, even with my Note 9.

I use xplore file manager, it has a really clear and easy to use interface, it can compress and decompress files, also has a pdf viewer, when receiving a pdf file , from any source,I just select it and xplore opens it, this could be useful for you

Odd, as I already had the Samsung version and it didn't work, so I uninstalled and did the standard Adobe app. Still no go. Now that I uninstalled that and went back to Samsung version, it works.

Spoke too soon. When I download a new pdf, I get an error when I click on it to open. I can only open from Acrobat. This is rather annoying.

Is Hancom office not an option? I have multiple apps that will open PDF's on my Note 9. I usually use Hancom, but I have several apps that open them and all of them work fine for PDF's.

When the download goes to the SD card, I click on the item when the download is done and all I get is an error - can't open file. No option to open with, etc.

I think I found a thing I do not like about the Note 2 finally.
Situation:
Sending email to client and need to attach a pdf from my google drive (or say my files for isntance)... I hit attach file while in google mail...Dropbox and Gallery only show up as options.. WTH! I know a work around to go to the file, then share, but that doesn't work when writing an email and then wanting to attach a file.
Do any of you know a fix for this? I am rooted, new kernel and all of that jazz but on stock rom.
Haaaaalllppp!
I just tried the native email application as well and still do not have google drive as an option...
Try downloading a file manager app such as astro file manager. Then try attaching from within the Gmail app again. Your file manager should show up and let you find a file from there. You need a program that handles the different types of files you are wanting to attach, if that makes sense.

Smark thanks for the suggestion, I do currently have a file manager but it cannot load up Drive and only my phones memory or sd card. I am wondering what options I have to possible add it in.
I am not really sure what you are asking. When you hit attach file, drop box shows up? When you select it, what happens? Do you have drop box set up correctly, to sync the stuff from your phone so it shows in dropbox? When I hit "upload here" in dropbox and choose "other", my internal and external phone memory show and I can choose to upload anything from that point. Once it's uploaded, you should be able to choose whatever you uploaded as an attachment.

He is saying that you can't attach from Google drive.

Try astro file manager. I can access Google drive, dropbox etc after choosing astro, when I hit attach file from within Gmail.

FYI google drive does not mean the drive on your google device. google drive (drive.google.com) is a google service similar to drop box.
I also notice the new gmail won't let you attach APK's (at least it won't let me they never arrive at the other end)
AND gallery is missing the "hot link" to your preferred upload method now you have to hit share and scroll to your desired upload method (I like the S3 better for this as I use that A LOT)
Hi,
I am unable to attach any files to the mail and other social networking via browser. Whenever I am trying to attach any files, page getting refreshed automatically and a small pop up message displays and goes off immediately with the error message "Unable to complete previous operation due to low memory" in default chrome browser. When I gave this mobile for service in Samsung service centre, they told flash memory is corrupted. Is this right? please help.
I get this too. I think I bought a cheap SD card from what people on here are saying, so I bought a class 10 Samsung one for 50bucks on eBay.

But I do not have SD card in my mobile. I am using default 16 GB phone memory only.

I have the same problem. Is it possible that such a powerful phone can have insufficient memory for uploading a 100kb photo? I mean really.
Btw no card in my phone either.

Try es file manager. When it asks to upload select it and choose file then use path way. Works on some sites.

Thanks! I was having this issue with the G+ mobile site in chrome on my GNex running CM10.1. (My company's Google Apps G+ isn't enabled through the app)
I am having this same issue on my Samsung Galaxy s3 . Has anyone found a solution for it? I don't necessarily want to download an app to fix it. So frustrating!
Opera presto solves it too
Most webkit browsers & file manager combos have this. Not sure if it's root opening too many options / paths. Opera 12.1.9 presto for Lollipop works tho..
Is it possible for me to change the path of download zips or anything else I would download, so that it would download directly in 'BOX' or 'DROPBOX' account instead of a download folder on my phone internal storage?
I say that bc-i would like to dl things zips what have-you for my TF300T... bc I'm not always on my tablet during the day but I am usually all over forums using my gNex. It would be great to have the option of downloading whatever either in BOX or DROPBOX.... so then all I would do is log into those apps when I'm on my tablet... Doing that would save time/energy /and cutting and pasteing (sp) files..

Remove the Downloads folder and make a sym link called Downloads to the actual location.

Are you trying to open them from your browser? Or directly from the phone? If from the browser you can try DOLPHIN browser, and they have a pdf add on. If from the phone you may need a different app too do it. I personally use documents to go APP..

So, apparently none of the stock music players give any option to add local files/folders?
WHAT THE **** is the reason for this? Have to purchase every track from HTC or Google play to listen on my device?
Added songs to device in standard mp3 format. Can not figure out anyway to play them without downloading some ****ty third party file manager, navigating through the cluster **** android folder tree and selecting them each time I want to play.
Please help before I dig out my UT starcom PPC because it's more user friendly than the 'best phone you can buy'
I hope I'm a total noob idiot and there is something preposterously easy I missed. Please help.

I put it in the /sdcard/music folder and it's detected automatically... Though I don't think it even needs to be in that folder for Android to detect it. Not sure where you're going wrong.

What format files are you putting on the phone?
My Sprint version finds all my local music (in MP3 format) on the SD card fine with both Google Music and HTC Music Apps.
I just created a 'music' directory on my sd card and filled it up. I have a mix of mp3 and flac in there. Music player found it and played.... you don't have to buy from Google.
For that sh** you want Apple.

How did you add them? If you are using a wireless transfer like ftp or one of the apps out there, it may not work. Let me know how you added and i'll tell you how to fix.
Downloaded rar from Google drive. Extracted files into
/downloads

Fixed. Thanks. There is something wrong with my folder tree. Will only recognize files if they are in /music. Problem is that third party 'file manager' can't read the storage on my phone properly, created/displaying 3 to 4 copies of diff folders, sd cards (im only using internal storage), etc. Had to try 4 diff /music folders to find the right one.
Is there a native file Explorer that I missed? I've noticed that some programs are in the phone without having icons in launcher. 'Voice recorder' is one. I can open it with google now voice, but it shows up nowhere in my launchers.

Simply use a file manager and move everything you downloaded to another directory and move it back. When you extracted the files, the system never implemented them like if you were to transfer using windows or aft on a mac or htc sync. The system doesn't actually know they are there. If this does not work, dowload that rar on your computer and manually move music to the device, it will pick them up automatically

What format are the music files in?
Are you sure you actually extracted them?
I wouldn't keep music in "Downloads" that seems like an awkward place to keep it and might be treated specially.
I consider downloads a "Temp" folder that I can wipe any time because it fills up with junk over time.
Also are you rooted? There are issues of 3rd party apps accessing the external SD Card.
You may have two /downloads one on external SD card and one on internal SD card.

That's nonsense. That sounds like you never really extracted them. And when you "copy" them you are actually extracting them.
Once extracted they should be EXACTLY like you copied them there. If you are doing it right.
Some compression formats and browsers make it look like they are extracted, but they are not. You are just browsing within the RAR or ZIP file.
You need to explicitly "Extract" to somewhere else.
The best test is. Delete the RAR file. If you still see the files then they are extracted and no need to copy them back and forth.
But again. I think downloads is a bad place to keep your music.
Still ridiculous to not allow me to manage my own library.
Let Apple dumb it down for everyone. We aren't buying their products for a reason, and this is it.
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
They were definitely extracted and moved to several locations. Each time (before I found the 'correct /music) I could use a file manager to force open them in a media player, but they were never added to the library until copied into the magic music folder.

You can get poweramp if you want to manually manage directories. There is no magic music folder btw, stock app picks up any folder but i'm glad you got it working.
If you do get PowerAmp, make sure you untick everything except your Music folder (under Settings>Folders & Library), or you'll have ringtones and notifications show up, too.
