So I've noticed my AOD isn't turning off at all. While I do have it set to "Show Always", it should still turn off after a short time if the proximity sensor is covered., as was the case with the S7, S8 and S9.
Could you guys please confirm if this is the case for your AOD too? Turning the phone face down or put it in your pocket (or just cover the top half of the display) for a few minutes, see if the AOD turns off. Let me know if anyone sees it turn itself off.
You have to have AOD set to "Show Always" for this test to be valid.
I suspect this could be a bug which Samsung might need to be made aware of, hence my request for others to test. Unless I'm missing something VERY obvious. Or Maybe this is by design?
Thanks :good:
EDIT: thinking about this further, I reckon the proximity sensor is only active while it's flashing, such as when a call is being made. Because it's a "behind the display" type sensor. So maybe they made a trade off with AOD?
It's a sad news for you. S10+ doesn't have a proximity sensor as a trade-off for the screen (sounds ridiculous?). And some features are like sh*t due to the lack of proximity sensor. I don't know if I can go through with this so-called flagship

Ummm, of course it has a proximity sensor.....
Try making a call to someone (use voicemail if you want). You'll see a little white flashing dot to the left of the cameras, near the battery icon. This is the proximity sensor: https://hothardware.com/news/blinking-white-pixel-samsung-galaxy-s10-feature-not-bug
Try covering it up while in a call. The display will go off. Because you just covered up the proximity sensor. Because they do have one.

No it's not. Can you check it on your phone with *#0*# in the dialer or any proximity checking app? The result is always 0.
I had troubles with the double tap to wake and the show fingerprint features, and sometimes with calls when my phone behaves abnormally. Then I checked and it turns out that S10 doesn't have a proximity sensor. Samsung did other things to replace the proximity sensor's function, but it has been much worse than before

tried it on a S10E, the AOD always stay on even when in pocket.
Can confirm on my s10+. AOD does not turn off in my pocket or laying face down.
did anyone notice the werid little flashing spot above the the signal bars? that`s the only place where when I put my finger over it the screen goes off during call

Seriously, it has both a proximity sensor and light sensor as per normal. They may work slightly different, hence why crappy test apps from the Play store don't work. And why AOD is no longer turning off in pockets.
Watch JerryRigEverything's teardown, specifically here, where he physically points them out: https://youtu.be/kHzmFPoZbCA?t=427

Same here.
Tbh it's not really a trade off I'm happy with because it makes AOD a source of battery drain at this point. I want to be able to put my phone face down to save battery. Do you think this might actually be a bug?
Started a thread in the Samsung community forum. Maybe some of you guys can top up with your own findings.

Found this article which confirms the existence of a proximity sensor.
https://hothardware.com/news/blinking-white-pixel-samsung-galaxy-s10-feature-not-bug
The trade-off might be due to the fact that's the sensor is tied to that blinking pixel and is only active while making phone calls.

Same here, AOD doesn't turn off when flipping it over or covering top portion of the screen.
I'm starting to think this is why they added the feature of AOD only turning on when you tap the screen once as a trade off for it not automatically turning off

I tend to agree. I carry my S10+ in my shirt pocket and have noticed that AOD remains on.
Additionally, if double tap to wake the screen is on, the screen will wake on in your pocket without double-tapping it. I have disabled this feature as its annoying that this is also buggy!

This combined with the lift to wake option interpreting placing in pocket as lifting and the ultrasonic fingerprint reader activating in pockets is giving us of a real annoyance.
I hope Samsung are aware of this and do something about it.. .. ..

Very strange... just tried disabling double tap to wake the screen and it didn't stop it happening... Doh
It's a bug, they forgot to link the older aod behaviour with the new implementation of this sensor, I expect it to be fixed in the next update, along with everything else.
I'm constantly getting this too. Even with AOD off and the option to not turn screen on when in pocket(can't remember exactly name) I'm still constantly having my phone turn on in my pocket. At work I get a break every 2.5 hours and sometimes 45 minutes or more of that it'll be on in my pocket. I've pulled it out several times and the emergency call screen be on with a lot of numbers pressed. It's definitely a huge annoyance. My battery almost died during a 10 hour shift because of this.

Hi everyone. Any thoughts on this issue? This still persists for me even though my phone is up to date and it's may already.
I too think that there's a trade off with the in-screen proximity sensor and the fact that the phone doesn't recognise that's in a pocket. Mine keeps going on while in it.
There must be a way to get around this issue but I'm suspecting we'll never see an optimal fix since the proximity sensor uses that lit pixel to work and nobody would like to see it blinking every second.
I blame bad engineering here. Thumbs down for Samsung mobile.
I blame the new in screen proximity sensor. I doubt they will ever get a fix for their first gen type used on our devices. It'll probably be fixed on the note 11 or S11. I hope not though.

Hey there..
I've had the phone for a few weeks and like most of you I wasn't satisfied with the performance of the fingerprint sensor. After tying all the how-to and walk-through guides to no avail, I decided to give something a try and to my surprise the FP sensor is working flawlessly.
So, here is how;
While registering your finger, touch the sensor as Lightly as possible and keep moving it around till it's registered. While unblocking the phone don't press too hard on the sensor area, use the same light touch that you used to register your finger.
It's been working like a charm without the dreadful 'no match' error for over 10 days.
Hope this helps.
Too much theories, everyone say its, but this phone needs software upgrade indeed.

Give this one a try. :good:
I'll give it a try. Thanks.
I also hate the fact that this phone let's you register only 3 fingerprints.
No way
All the same for me. When you using FP for a continuous time (a couple of a continuous opening) it's working like a charm, but after a "hour" of a rest all problems comes again
That's the truth from me.

I have the same problem. It's absolutely horible in the morning, for the second day in a row had to use pin to unlock. After that - all fine for a hour or two.
Maybe working how a wind blowing as i see

Got it now
Since April Update the fingerprint sensor is a bit better but still needs improvement.
I found two things:
1) We got the habit to just touch the sensor and it unlocks rapidly with our previous phones with normal sensor. The fact is that is when you put you finger on the screen we tend to remove it rapidly or to put too much pressure that the sensor cannot read it. That is my personal findings.
2) Found a post on XDA A50 section but unable to find it now but the trick works for me. When you are registering your fingerprint as example fingerprint 1 put the same thumb from left and right hand each time. Example your percentage registration is 15% your put your right thumb as soon as it increases you put the left thumb and so on until it complete registration. You can use all the three slots with doing so and it increases the responsiveness of the sensor while unlocking. I used only two slots since my girlfriend uses one on my phone and it works very well.
Have a try and let me know.

Hehe yes... I trust her so it is ok
Pay attention please.
Here some tricks to try for FP speeding up.
As 1st, dlete all entered finger prints. After that lower the phone light at minimum (Adaptive Brightness keep ON and slider set to minimum).
As 2nd, form a three fingerprints with only one finger frequently used with such so light screen touching.
As 3rd, return to Adaptive Brightness and OFF/ON it on button.
After that my FP sensor react as a charm in any case. I don't use AOD. Just lock screen.
But i have made som goodness with my wish picture as a lock screen. I have made a light white circle with the dimension and a positin like a FP sensor so it helping me to light the FP area
Here is my picture so You can use it to form Yours own.

Nice one. Did not thought doing this surely it can help, but does it help also during the day when outside?
It could be just better on sunlight. Brightnes slider then jump to max
Report You that.
P.S. Same precission on dyrect sun as in the room or a half shadow...

I couldn't understand what you said in step 2 and 3. Can you please explain?
2nd: Add 3 FP but every FP with the same finger from various angles and just a soft, soft screen touching (not hard pressing) with Brightnes seted to min
3rd: After FP entering, go to Adaptive Brightness and turn it off and on to set the auto brightness vslue.
That's it.

Yes, I used your wallpaper. Kudos to you for coming up with such an innovative idea. But my FP sensor works the same with other wallpapers also. Not much gain in speed.
Is there a way for aod to stay off in confined environments but immediately turn on when taken out off them?

It should automatically turn of if proximity sensor detects something.
You can test it by simply turning phone upside down on the table, after a couple of seconds, AOD will be turned off.
Same goes with pocket or whatever.
I am actually not sure if proximity sensor is in charge for that or just multi touches on the screen, but it works anyway.
Well, Since I read your reply, I tried to replicate the AOD behaviour you describe, to no avail, is there a setting or something to achieve it?

Mine is also not turning off in pocket, etc.
My Note 8 always has.
it seems it does not work as intended. Should call customer support on Monday.
Might be due to the fact that the proximity sensor is in the screen now. The flickering point on the right of the camera when you initiate a call
Now that I check I don't think the proximity sensor is working at all when not on a call.
As reference, I have the T-Mobile Note 10+. Before the September update, the AOD on my phone used to turn off when my flip case is closed. Now that I updated to the September update, that function stopped working, the AOD is still on when my case is closed. The update fixed the flashing camera hole issue (now works great on apps like aodNotify) but now problem with the AOD. I hope they fix this issue asap with an AOD update or something.
After updating to 12.5.6.0. RKHEUXM GLOBAL I noticed a slower response to the fingerprint when turning on the phone (screen on).
Before the update, when I turned off the phone with the button and immediately put my finger on the fingerprint reader, the phone display turned on immediately.
Now I have to wait for AOD to appear before the reader responds to the touch. Does anyone have a similar problem? Thanks.
No problem here. Fingerprint sensor response time hasn't changed.
Mine has gotten slower too but I can't find a solution.
Maybe it is linked to the 3GB memory extension? I read some people noticed better overall performance with this feature turned off. Since I turned it off immediately, I didn't have the chance to compare.
It's in Additional Settings > Memory Extension
3GB memory extension turned OFF and problem with fingerprint sensor response still persists.
Hi, all.
I have S20+
When the screen is off, if I touch the lower half of the screen,
a) the AOD clock doesn't show up,
b) I am unable to use fingerprint scanner on AOD screen (it works fine on the unlock screen)
Oddly, while on AOD, when the touch the upper half of the screen, AOD clock shows up, but unable to use fingerprint scanner.
I have done soft reboot, factory reset, still no avail.
If someone knows how to fix this, PLEASE help.
