Linux on DEX support - Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Questions & Answers

Any idea if samsung have any plan to support linux on dex for note 10?

Definitely they will. Next update of the app will include Note 10 support.
Keep in mind that LoD is still under development. I tried it before on S9+ it was working fine.
Sent from my SM-N975F using Tapatalk

The hopeful side of me would love to believe this. The pragmatic side thats been watching and using LoD knows better. Do you have anything other than wishful thinking to go on? When was LoD last updated? April?

http://chng.it/v9hPCDyjdB colaboren

Stupid question. What advantage or reason would you run Linux on DeX?

That's too bad. I've only had my N10+ for a week, and discovered LoD a few days ago ... was really hoping to see it be developed. Had potential ... apparently just not enough. I suppose, all things considered, I'd rather they focus on pushing out more/better/longer-term updates than trying to VM a linux desktop in our phones.

I doubt it, supporting old phones is rarer than finding 1000$ on a hotdog these days
I think jb is the last official update for the gnex
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
im sure we will. gnex is not that old. if not an official update, many custom roms will appear thanks to our devoted and skilled devs.
Well not that old cos It's still a good device that provides great user experience. I agree but when we're talking about such fast developing technology and update policy two years means a lot!
As far as I remember Google hasn't officially announced devices to get KLP yet so we can just speculate. But I wouldn't be much surprised if we didn't get it.

Gnex was released october 2011 iirc, that makes about 1,5 years, by the time android 5.0 comes the Gnex will almost be around for 2 years, yes.
Non-google phones of that age have been supported. There's more reason to thingk the GNex will be included than not.

The Nexus S got Jelly Bean, I see no reason why the G Nex wouldn't get KLP
Didn't Google promise to support nexus devices over at least a set month period? Around the time ICS came out I want to say they said 18 months, or maybe more. Even if they don't, we will see ROMS worked up for them. And if you look at the old nexus devices, updates didn't happen due to hardware limitation. Unless they got some new feature that demands a hardware feature be on the phone and we don't have it, I doubt they will stop updating us.
In terms of CPU/GPU GNEX is unfortunately not even close to 2012 flagships (not to mention 2013 beasts). I am not saying that our TiOMAP won't be able to handle KLP but it can be used as an excuse. I hope not.

I am not saying anything. I've no idea about KLP's requirements. No idea what google decides either. We're all just speculating here. I was basically trying to figure out a possible excuse not to give us KLP. And CPU/GPU is GNexus' weakest side comparing to 2012 and newer handsets. That's all.
* In 2012 HTC One S with S4 Krait was also considered a mid end device.
It may or may not come out for our devices, technology advances pretty quickly, if we get it, good, if not, too bad, Google did not owe us anything.

No Bluetooth Low Energy for the Galaxy Nexus

Those of you have been waiting for the Galaxy Nexus to gain support for Bluetooth Low Energy - to enable syncing with devices like the Fitbit Flex or Polar heart monitor - can stop. While BLE support will arrive in the next drop of Android, it will - according to one of the folks on the Android team - apparently not be making its way to the Nexus. See the comment here:
https://plus.google.com/116110604589325140832/posts/VsF1BcaFY1g
Looks like the best bet, then, is either custom ROMs or upgrading to a Nexus 4 or later.
Great... Another nail in the coffin against the galaxy nexus, time to start looking for a suitable replacement.

This question is fairly general as I'm considering the remaining life of my device. Does anyone have an idea, once API level 18 is released, is it possible or probable that we will get BLE ported over in a ROM? Should I hold out hope for my Nexus or move on? BLE is something I've been looking forward to for a while.
Lol, that's just ****ing weak.

I don't think it's that simple, it will require some work to port it over, I remember that a google employee mentioned in the keynote that BLE requires a new stack. Correct me if i'm wrong, i'm kinda sleepy when i watched the keynote..
Yeah, which will come with next Android release. They just don't want to bother with the drivers for GN, which is bull****.

No one cares, since they get them from the stock build.
So, now that Android 4.3 is out, what are the chances of getting BLE ported from another device with the same BT chip?

If someone were to track down the people who are providing ROMs with the all binaries included, even the ones that are not licensed to us by Google and manufacturers, there would be no 100% complete ROMs.

I'm unsure if you're saying it will get it or won't.
They just recertified BT 3.0 for it. If you go to https://www.bluetooth.org/tpg/listings.cfm and top in GT-I9250 in the search box you'll notice that it says it as for 3.0 not 4.0.
If you put in the model LG-E960 (nexus 4) and search you'll notice that it was for 4.0.
so will gnex support BLE ?
It doesn't have it, they would certify for 4.0 if it would. Only way (unofficial at least) would be to work with with similar binaries from a 4.0 certified device, if it's possible.
It sucks ass, but I guess it was more of a business decision then a engineering one. Personally I don't see much point in having a Nexus anyway, so this decision kinda sealed that I'll look around for the next phone.

like up to 3 major updates at least. This phone has the specs that will make it a top phone for well over a year. I mean the newest phones are still coming out with just 2gb of ram (maybe the S5 will have 3gb) and the CPU at 2.3mhz will be a beast for a long time. Then look at the S3 now confirmed getting 4.4 KK so it's easy to see 3 major updates for this phone and maybe more.

2.3mhz woooo that's fast man.
How about 2.3GHz lol.
I never look at it as official updates, because our devs will continue to bring support for the newest OS to our device. For instance the Samsung epic 4G keyboard started on Eclair(2.1) and still has JB on it from the dev support.

I'm not talking about ported roms and yes if you read my post you'd notice i said that. As far as Official your're looking at 3 Max they only support the phone for 2 years and then ditch support. But most XDA users don't care for Official support as our dev's have more time to just our device specific and are able to support the phone much better and give us a better overall user experience.
Ever heard of AOSP? AOKP? Source Code? Building From The Ground Up? Lol.
We all know that regardless if its Samsung, HTC, LG, Sony, Etc... They take forever because they're not maintaining one phone and that's all. they are bigger companies with several products and several things to be pre-occupied and more geared and focused on.

Of course I have, but the guy asked about updates, so i was talking about from Tmo which like I said most likely 3 updates. I used to run CM/Aosp on my Bionic but I got tired of minimalist ROMs with vanilla/bland UI personally. Especially CM. When they went commercial and became Cyanogen Inc. and basically stole from a lot of developers I don't care to use there ROMs anymore. Plus I kinda like a stripped down TW at this point.
I believe google said something about a 18month upgrade.
Basically if a new update comes out, they have to make an update for it.
But im willing to bet we will only get 2 updates. Kitkat and probably a patch or what ever is after that.

The combination of an OEM known for being slow with updates (Samsung) and a carrier that's even worse, sad to say. A shame, really. The Note5 is an excellent phone all around. In truth AT&T is worse to deal with than the the the manufacturers themselves.

You are not understanding, I would all day but my phone is a free phone, I cannot modify the phone being in the Insights program, I cannot side load the program. I have a Nexus 6 for real fun, this phone is just my meh phone compared to the Nexus 6.
Also, the guy I deal with at the Samsung Experience probably knows more about android phones than 95% of the users on here, he is an awesome dude. He actually helped me root my first free Note 3 from the Insights program and was able to keep Samsung from seeing it so I would not lose the phone. Samsung has got smart though with the program and can tell now.

If you're already on BPE6, there's nothing to update to. BPE6 is the build that's being offered OTA today to phones that are still on APE3.

Will we get Nougat (7.0)? If so, when?

Just thought I'd throw this out there because the 1+3 is my first 1+. Can anyone with past 1+ experience give me an idea of first, whether we should expect to get Nougat, and second, if we can expect it, how long after the initial release will it be released for us?
Well, I meant to post this in Q&A, but I guess discussion works too.
Judging by the 1+2, yes, half a year after N goes official.
But who knows, maybe they improved, we got a quick RAM and display fix after all, so I'll say it'll land on january 17th 2017.

It was a fake. There were "0"s with different fonts.

The correct answer is: When it's done. And sooner for custom roms.

Come back to future bro, lol
It's better to not count on getting Android N.
And even if it comes, there is a probability that certain things in a N update will be annoying or worse than on Marshmallow so that many users will prefer to not update to N.
But that is OK - on my LG G2 which I used for 2.5 years I still have Android 4.4. And it works, so what?
I heard that Android Nougat will be "6.1". Is it true?

I don't pin my hopes high of getting android N anytime sooner than 1 year. I will be relying on custom ROMs. The only thing i will be missing is camera quality. Photos on custom ROMs just don't match with what i can get with stock. Hopefully we get alternative.

android n for one plus 3 ? in Feb-March 2017 , they have a history of slow updates. best to assume more time to avoid horrible disappointment lol . but who will stay on stock for so long ? i just hope the op3 gets a cam mod that makes us utilize the slow mo video recordings in aosp/cm roms.. then id go ahead.
