So I made a mistake and I tried to flash the newest aokp build 3 without a backup. I got my new phone a while back and never made a backup.
I flashed build 3 and (accidentally) some old gapps and I kept getting stuck on the Google screen.
Next I tried pushing files through the Gnex tool kit and manually through fastboot. I keep getting errors that there is no insecure boot or that the device is not connected. attempts at a temporary insecure boot on the tool kit fail.
Next I tried a wipe and then just installing build 3 without google apps so I could add the correct one after boot, but it is again stuck.
So now I'm really not sure what to do. Any suggestions?
Rule number 1 : STOP using toolkits!!
now, can you get into cwm recovery?
Yes, I can gt into twrp everything I did except for trying to push the last files was through twrp
by the way, I have a Verizon Nexus
And as a side comment: The tool kit was used as a last ditch effort. The toolkit had nothing to do with bricking the device. The toolkit has been extremely useful for unlocking and rooting multiple devices quickly.
You could eithther try to flash back to stock or you could boot into TWRP & adb push a different ROM. (You did try Wipe Data / Factory Reset right?)

I think what thegtfusion was trying to say was: if you wouldn't have used a toolkit in the past, you would have known how to fix your bootloop.
Buy anyway:
1) Boot into recovery and plug into your PC
2) Open a command prompt (in the folder where you have adb.exe and fastboot.exe)
3) Push the ROM (and kernel if it doesn't come with it) you want to flash to your device: adb push /path/to/ROM.zip /sdcard/
4) Reboot into fastboot mode
5) Erase your old ROM: fastboot erase system
6) Erase your old kernel: fastboot erase boot
7) Reboot into recovery
8) Wipe /data and /cache
9) Flash your ROM & kernel in recovery
10) Reboot. Done.
EDIT: Ninja'd by 3rdstring!
Screwing up is part of the learning process. It's actually a great way to learn how your phone really works.
Thanks for the reply. For some reason I can't get my device to be recognized on my new computer. I downloaded drivers, adb and fastboot and rebooted everything but it didn't work. I'll have to retry again on my other computer tomorrow.

Drivers
Thanks for the drivers. I uninstalled all of the drivers and used the universal one. Everything seems to work until I run 'adb devices' and my Galaxy Nexus is not listed.
I feel that my device is not getting seen because of something I have wrong, but after adb, fastboot, and the correct drivers I'm not sure.
PS - Even with the universal driver I still have to run adb and fastboot from the original directory that I installed them correct? I don't run them from the driver in anyway correct?

did you install android-sdk (and added adb/fastboot to your $PATH) or are you using binary versions of adb and fastboot downloaded elsewhere?
if it's the latter, commands should be run from the directory where you extracted them.
about the drivers, i think you need to go to device manager and update drivers manually to the ones you installed (refered here in the post before mine), assuming you're on windows.

You're booted into TWRP when trying adb?
Fixed! I ended up booting into recovery and the device was recognized in adb there. I was able to push fresh copies of aokp build 3 and gapps (my original build 3 download started failing) and now I just got done initiating swagger!

Just for understanding, USB debugging is only activated through recovery?
It's also under settings >> developer options so you can use adb while the android is running.

USB Debugging needs to be enabled in Android for ADB to work in Android.
CWM and TWRP have USB Debugging enabled by default, so ADB will work fine in recovery with no other action from the user.
Model: GT-I9250T
Original Android version 4.04.
Root method: Gained root without having to unlock or overwrite the vanilla boot-loader and used OTA RootKeeper to backup su.
Long story short: My phone recently updated to 4.2.1 OTA. I restored root using OTA RootKeeper without issue. However when I went to restore The LBE Privacy app service, it caused my Nexus to enter a loop the moment it finishes booting and the lock screen appears.
Behavior:
After booting to the lock screen, the screen flashes and goes black then gets back to desktop and starts all over again in a loop. Once it does that about 3 or 4 times, it'll eventually get to a totally black screen except for the Android robot guy lying down with his belly open and an exclamation mark coming out. It'll then sit like that for about a minute and then the phone will reboot from scratch and the whole process repeats.
Apparently i'm not the only one either: url = badappreviews.com/apps/23315
From the linked site it looks like someone fixed it by using clockworkmod. However I don't see how that's possible as there is no way to enable usb debugging or copy any files to the sdcard as you can't boot the phone properly in the first place. I also noticed that I can no longer get into fastboot using the volume up and power button. However I can get into Odin mode.
Any ideas???
Install CWM or TWRP, wipe it clean, mount sdcard from there or adb sideload a ROM.

Just flash the android stock image through adb and go from there. You don't need debugging access when you're in fast boot
Have I helped? Don't forget to make love to that "Thanks" button!
Download stock images and flash em via fastboot, but you will lose everything. Its the freshest start you can get.
Sent from my Nexus Prime
Seriously, do you need to 'enable debugging' to be able to use adb in recovery?? It's a completely different and independent partition.
And fastboot doesn't need any enabling at all.
So, boot to recovery
mounts and storage
mount sd card
open up a DOS box (or terminal if you're on a mac or linux)
<path to adb>/adb shell
...
profit
The ... is where you go and uninstall the app/service, like the example you found mentioned above.
Usually this would be removing a .apk from either /system/app or /data/app
Thanks for all the help, however i am unable to get the adb drivers installed. I tried both Samsung's and Google's and they both fail (Windows doesn't even recongise a driver even after pointing it to: \sdk\extras\google\usb_driver. Anyone got any other sources for a working driver? Win7 64bit.
Edit: Managed to connect it using the pdanet drivers. Then proceeded to try to load CWM using: "fastboot flash recovery *file name*.img", but just got an error: "FAILED (remote: invalid argument)". I noticed that on my fastboot menu, it says lock state: Locked. Is this why it's failing? The boot loader is still locked? Because I tried "fastboot oem unlock" and that didn't work: "FAILED (unknown status code)".
Edit: Looks like my phone just needed a reboot. Because once I did, I was able to use the fastboot oem unlock command with success! However, before I proceed with unlocking the bootloader, can someone please confirm for me that I need to do so in order to install CWM? Many thanks.
Yes, but unless you have a play store gnex, this will probably wipe your phone anyway.

Hello, I've tried rooting my Nexus 7 (2013) with LTE for like 5 hours now...
I've done every single thing in every single thread, and I still can't do ****.
I've tried the WugFresh root toolkit, but that did not work at all for me, I uninstalled and remove what they told me to do... But nothing worked, when I followed the WugFresh toolkit I lost usb mass storage... N7 did not appear at all on my computer, which it did, before I tried to screw with it...
I've tried doing it the manual way too, downloading all the drivers, uninstalling the other onces first.. But nothing... I could not even get the device listed in adb! I tried the full driver installation thing + automatic check if everything worked out, but the tablet would NOT run the script to reboot it into fastboot, and when I tried to restart the tablet into fastboot, and then continue to run the toolkit, it would start TWRP, the popup on my computer told me to flash something "!flashready", but I could not find it in the sdcard...
I unlocked the n7 manually, holding the volume button and power button down.
I know that was very bad written, but I'm a bit in a hurry. Anything I could do?

I'm not sure what this means. If you're using a toolkit, you're not doing it manually. Have you tried ADB and fastboot alone, without a toolkit? Is TWRP on your phone now? If so, you're done; just flash from recovery 1) a ROM for a custom ROM or 2) SuperSU.zip for just root.
If you don't have TWRP, does your Google boot screen has a locked icon at the bottom? If so: for ADB to work you need to have debugging turned on in your phone's developer settings. You don't need ADB though; just reboot into the bootloader by holding power and volume-down. Then type "fastboot devices" and see if anything shows up.
If it's an unlocked icon, just flash a recovery.img from fastboot.

Fastboot is separate from ADB. Your fastboot is working if the toolkit is able to boot TWRP.
Code:

is what you use while your device is in the bootloader.

Hi everyone,
I have a Nexus 4 and I just managed to get it in a boot loop after trying to install Paranoid Android 4.0 beta (pa_mako-4.0-BETA-20131223.zip).
I saw an update come up in goomanager so I downloaded and tried to install it, but after rebooting and starting the update from recovery mode it failed with the following message:
Code:
...
set_metadata_recursive: some changes failed
E:Error in /sdcard/paranoidota/pa_mako-4.0-BETA-20131223.zip
(Status 7)
Error flashing zip '/sdcard/paranoidota/pa_mako-4.0-BETA-20131223.zip'
Updating partition details...
After this the phone doesn't boot, it stays with the Google logo for a while, and then automatically reboots and goes to recovery.
I'm not sure what that happened. After researching a bit I found out that I may have had to update the recovery first (I'm using TWRP 2.4.4.0).
Therefore I downloaded the last version and tried to install it, but I've found another problem. When I connect the phone to the computer with a microusb cable, the phone is not recognized at all by the computer. I tried both fastboot (booting the bootloader in the phone) and ADB Sideload from the recovery. I use Ubuntu, and the phone should be listed with the command lsusb, but it's not. It's something similar to the device not coming up in the device manager on Windows. It's not listed when running either adb devices nor fastboot devices. I thought it may be a problem of having disabled USB debugging in the phone, but I read somewhere that fastboot should work nevertheless.
I tried 3 different microusb cables, 3 USB ports, 2 kernel versions in my computer and 2 different computers.
Can anybody give me some hope? :crying: Also ideas on how I may solve the problem would be really helpful.
Thanks a lot.

From what I gather you can get into recovery mode without issue.
Simply restore a backup or try reflashing the previous version of the ROM

Thanks Anu6is for the reply. Yes, recovery mode works, but no backups appear in the "restore" option and I can't find any either if I manually browse the file system at /sdcard. I thought I made one when first installing PA but nothing is there.
Also, no previous versions of the ROM are currently in the file system. I never thought I would need them again so I removed them to free space.
Is there a reason why ADB and fastboot would be inaccessible through USB besides a hardware failure?

Thanks Pirateghost. I tried but it didn't work. I'm more and more convinced there's something wrong with the hardware. Maybe I dropped it one too many times. It was just a strange coincidence and really bad luck that I realized it didn't work just after the problem installing a new ROM.
Anyways, I ordered a replacement for the PCB that holds the microusb connector. Let's hope that works.
I solved the problem.
I managed to make the phone appear on the computer. There must be something broken in the microusb port in the phone because sometimes when I connect the phone nothing will appear on dmesg (I use Linux), sometimes I get USB errors and after trying a few times I managed to make it work.
I updated the recovery through fastboot and then I was able to successfully install the new ROM from recovery and now everything works alright.
Once the replacement board I ordered arrives I'll try replacing that and see if that fixes the USB connection problems.
Thanks to everybody who helped.
My computers don't recognize my Asus Zenfone 2 Ze551ml. I've installed the intel drivers, the asus drivers, the google android drivers. I've restarted, tried different USB ports, tried different computers, and tried different USB wires but to no avail.
I originally wanted to unroot so that I could apply OTA updates but I couldn't get into recovery, all the phone does is restart into bootloader again. All the solutions I read require me to use ADB or get into recovery and since I can't get into recovery or get any computer to recognize the phone I seem to be stuck.
I haven't updated the OTA since 2.18.40.12 version. Can anyone help me figure out how to update my phone or get my computer to recognize it?

Thanks for the reply Asus_USA,
Unfortunately, both the links you sent me don't work on my phone. For the first link (hardware reset/wipe cache partition) it asks me to go into fastboot mode, which I can do no problem, it then tells me to go into recovery mode. I can scroll down with my volume keys to the 'recovery mode' option but when I hit the power key to reboot the phone into recovery mode, it just reboots back into fastboot mode.
The second link (manual firmware update) asks me to download the update from the ASUS website, which I can do with no problem and then attach the phone to the computer and transfer the zip file to the root of my internal storage, I can't do this because the computer doesn't recognize my phone and therefore doesn't allow me to copy anything into it.
Let me know if you have any other ideas!
Thanks,

Thanks for the reply Asus_USA,
Unfortunately, both the links you sent me don't work on my phone. You can download the file directly to your phone from chrome by going to the download site on your phone. Also try setting your phone to PTP mode when it is plugged in and see if anything changes in device manager.
Or take out the sd card and copy to that, once back in phone you can then copy or move...

Tried it this way and then rebooted the phone. The phone recognized that there was an update file, and when I allowed it to install it rebooted into the Fastboot screen and then did nothing. I waited a half hour before touching the phone. When I rebooted the phone it didn't update and nothing had changed.

I tried downloading the file from online and the same thing happened as with the SD Card. When I restarted the phone it recognized that there was an update file and asked me if I wanted to install it. I clicked yes, it thought for about 30 seconds and then rebooted the phone into fastboot mode. Nothing happened after that and I had to choose the 'Reboot' option to start the phone back up; nothing had changed and the update did not work.
PTP mode doesn't seem to affect anything. My computer still doesn't recognize the phone.
I should also mention that the phone *does* charge when plugged into the computer.
Maybe u r having drivers issues
Try it with diff pc

I have. I tried it on 2 desktops and 3 different laptops, I installed the necessary drivers on all of them and tried using different USB cables. No luck.

Your PC won't recognize it, even in fastboot mode?
If it does you can flash a new recovery in fast boot by using the adb tools. To test attach phone in fastboot mode to pc and type in "fastboot devices".
If it detects the phone you will see your serial number come up. Then reflash the pre-rooted image. it might replace the screwed up files in your recovery.
Instead of the ADB drivers only though, use the flashtools found here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3301263&d=1431011927 Say thankyou to Shakalaka... I was having trouble using ADB, you might need to update to the latest drivers, but the flashboot tools worked with no problem...
You need to put the pre-root.img file in the folder and after connecting phone via usb hold shift, rightclick inside flashtools folder and select "open command window here" from drop down menu.
Then try the fastboot devices command.
Afterwards you can either flash the recovery again back to stock or flash the pre-rooted image and see if that fixes it.
You can find stock recovery, droidboot.img files and boot.img files here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/orig-development/rom-pre-root-img-t3079590
Again, BIG thanks to Shakalaka.

My computers don't recognize my phone even when it's on fastboot mode so I can't follow any of the steps
Would the solution for flashing recovery detailed in this thread help you ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3166701
You would need to still have root.

Thanks for directing me to that thread, it looks like, unfortunately, I have lost root access over the course of trying different solutions... Anyone know of a way to allow terminal to access root without superuser?

Hi everyone.
And @Kalkin19 @ma.ruda,
Could you both try to follow my steps on other similar thread?
It's on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=64093132
Let me know if your adb problem is solved or not.
Edit: Seems this thread is so old! Someone bumped it by posting the same issue. But, yeah, at least, give a reply. :silly:

Sorry for such a delayed response, I haven't logged in and checked my messages in a while. This issue was fixed for me randomly. I kept plugging my phone into my computer and it eventually recognized it (after about 60 different tries). I quickly added adb, unlocked, rooted and have been having no issues since then. I appreciate your link! Hopefully it helps others in the future.
