Textra works fine for receiving and replying via notifications, but I was wondering if anyone was working on a Textra watch app or if it's even possible to get it so that conversations can be read from the watch on demand as if you were using the Samsung messages app. I like it too much to switch back to Samsung messages just to get this functionality. I've heard Pulse as a watch app, but I really don't like it nearly as much as Textra.

Sigh... A suggestion from 2 years ago with 10 votes doesn't give me much hope of this ever happening.

Hi All,
Had this issue on my previous Nexus 5 aswell, Basically when I sent a text people receive it twice.
Looks to be a hangouts issue anybody else had this? have a work around. I like the simplicity of Hangouts so i'd prefer to keep using it rather than using a third party app.

I've not experienced this. But as you said if it's a hangouts issue. There's not a lot you can do I would of thought.
I have a couple of friends that use iPhones and they can't seem to see my group messages. All the other recipients in the group could see it. So far I have used Textra which seems to work but I rather use the stock messaging app. Anybody know how I can fixed this?

If they iMessage you, you won't get anything, because Android phones can't receive iMessages- Apple owns the protocol and they won't allow anyone else to use it.
They have to send you at least 1 SMS to set their iMessage app to handle texts to and from you properly.
After that the group messages should work.
I sent individual texts before and it works. They can't see my group text unless I use textra.

Was your last device an iPhone? There have been many reports of problems with messaging after leaving Apple for Android.
Other than that, I really have no idea.
Hopefully you find an answer to this. Good luck!

FYI for anyone with that iMessage problem after switching from Apple, Apple FINALLY allowed a way to sign out of iMessage without an iDevice.

My usual app doesn't allow voice replies to text messages so trying to find a new one. Textra seems very nice but I'm not getting the vibrate, pop up on my watch. I get the notification if i scroll down to it but nothing pops up. Any suggestions?

hangouts:good:
Thanks for the info. Yeah hangouts works well, but it lacks a lot of features. I found Textra. Works great, looks great, has all the usual features I love like replying through the status bar, but most of all it allows voice replying with my watch!
I tried out Textra and liked everything about it except how it pulled my favorites from my contact list and put them in the quick contacts. I couldn't find a way to remove some of the quick contacts without removing a Favorite from my contacts... so that extra space taken up at the top of the screen...plus my keyboard popping up at the bottom made the view window for typing a message very small and hard to use.
I found chompSMS (which is put out by the same developer as Textra), and it's exactly what I was looking for. It allows the option to reply on the Android Wear device with a Reply button (like Textra)... and it's running great with no problems. If you haven't settled on a SMS replacement app yet, you might want to check out chompSMS.
Been using Google Messenger to reply for voice texts, and Wear Messenger to reply via text on the watch. You need to have Minuum installed though, works pretty well for replying with a keyboard.

I actually received an email from Minuum about their version 3.0. Although I see it can only be installed via adb which I'm not to knowledgeable about. But how does it work? Are there only certain apps that allow you to respond to texts? How do you pull up the keyboard cause usually when you hit reply, it just does voice input.
Also to add, I found an app called Coffee. Allows you to respond to sms with voice, and a bunch of premade texts and you can also add to it. Also it appears to just pull the notification from your phone so even if your app doesn't support android wear, you can still reply via voice with this app. Will be testing more though.

Yea, you have to install through adb and set it as default through adb. I can find you the steps if you'd like. Also, the only text messenger app that allows keyboard reply is Wear Messenger. But I'm going to try to take apart google messenger apk and try to see what I can do to the wear side.
EDIT: For those that aren't very good with adb, here's the steps to install minuum: http://support.minuum.com/knowledgebase/articles/394385-minuum-on-android-wear
I'm also using Coffee, but I keep getting the "Let's get started" card where it says to flick your wrist to send a message. This functionality doesn't work for me, even though the option is ticked on the phone app. No idea why that won't work, and haven't had a reply from the developer yet.

I actually emailed the Dev about constantly getting that notification. No reply yet.
Other than that, the app is working great. I did untick that feature as I don't need it but I think when I first downloaded the app, it didn't work for me either.

The problem I have is that I need to use TMO WiFi calling at my house. I have zero signal there. And unless I'm using the stock app for messaging I can't receive or send MMS or group messages. So none of the 3rd party apps for SMS work for me. The irritating thing is that the manual for the watch says it has the reply option. (it wont let me post the link here)
So unless there is a work around for 3rd party SMS I'm SOL. So far Sony has not responded to my request for a fix.

Try coffee SMS out. It gets access to your notifications so you can respond with voice even if your messaging app doesn't support wear. Only thing is I had to uninstall coffee because it causer battery drain.

You sir are a gentleman and a scholar! This works PERFECTLY! I don't get notified of MMS messages but that's okay. They still show up on my phone. If this was imgur I'd give you +1 fake internet points.
Hello everyone!
I was wondering if it is possible to text someone just by using your Wi-Fi. I don't have the best of service, so I often get text messages really late. Is there any app that I can use that will allow me to receive messages over Wi-Fi? I've heard about Google Hangouts before, is it a good replacement to use instead of the stock messaging app? Also, what don't you like about Hangouts? Thanks a lot for your answers!

+1 :good:
The above statement is accurate about Verizon messages, not a bad app either. Hangouts works great for video chatting and phone calls over wifi too but if you are just needing messaging, I would go with Verizon messaging as the other user of hangouts would have to have a gmail account. While I realize most people do, now, have a gmail account I have found many people do not want to message in Hangouts.
Anyone having an issue of sms not sending using the google sms app? I have at least 2 messages a day that do not send and I dont realize till hours later...This was an issue on my pixel 2 XL also.
I love the google sms app but im thinking it time to switch? Any recommendations?
Are you coming from an iphone? Did you ever disable imessage? I know that has caused problems in the past with messaging.
I use Signal for safer messaging and the occasional SMS. Easy. Free. Encrypted. Not WhatsApp.

Haven't had an iphone since I bought the pixel 2 in Nov 2017. This only started about a month ago on the pixel 2 and now the Pixel 3. It sucks cause I really love stock sms app.
sounds like more of a carrier/imessage thing to me

Yeah maybe a carrier thing, but deffo not the imessage thing usually when that happens the message will send and the end user will not receive it. Or they will be able to send and I will not receive it. And this just started about a month ago, on top of that its only with the google app all other sms apps work fine
Think I am going to get a new sim card and go from there.
Happen to me yesterday. I did come from an iPhone but disabled imessage. Sunday all pictures and messages went through. Yesterday I could receive or send pics. Force closed and wiped the cache of the messaging app. Them contacted Verizon. They did setting on their end and sent me some test pics. Able to open them about an hour later. No issues since.

Go into your default app settings and check what your default SMS/MMS app is?
Might be something other than the app you're using.
Titanium Backup has a bad habit of choosing to be the default app.
As do a few other apps.
I'm on Verizon and that happens sometimes to me. I always thought it was a connectivity issue but if there is a fix I'd love to see it. never had an iPhone.

Today I realized I was missing some messages from my wife. She had to send me a screen shot to prove. That was using Textra. Also sent her a pic once and she got it three times. Back on the stock messenger. Hope it doesn't happen again
