Slo-Mo Woes - LG G8 Questions & Answers

Hi everyone! I was just playing with slo-mo, and it's great overall to have the options. I really love it except playback.
When you attempt to play back the video, it opens up the file in Quick Video Editor, which automatically plays the video while blaring some of the worst music you've ever heard. To stop the torture, you have to enter the music menu, scroll up and choose "no soundtrack". If you would like to simply view the video in another app (like all the normal videos), you must first "save a copy", and wait a minute or two for processing.
There is no ability to change the default app that opens the slo-mo file, even though it's a .mp4. Quick Video Editor lacks the setting to change the default soundtrack.
So, no matter what, there is no way to simply tap once on a slo-mo video to view/hear playback as expected. Compared to most others, this is kinda janky.
Don't get me wrong, I love all the recording mode's options, and am very grateful there is so much control. This playback hangup is one of the hiccups I think could hurt the phone's reputation. It's very polarizing.
Do you all know of any gallery apps, or something else that could help? I'm looking into Tasker and other automation for sound profiles. If nothing else, perhaps I can at least automate the soundtrack step.

Some basic questions

Hi - I am new to Android and am struggling with some fairly basic concepts:
1. Unloading images, and video: I have Win7 and using the built in Windows image importer - it tries to unload all other images - not just camera. So I get lots of bookmark thumbnails etc; etc; I have also tried doubleTwist but that seemed overly complicated?
2. Sharing recorded video with others: The Desire seems to record to a format that no one can play. Well the video does but the sound does not. I have read that there is no way round this and you can only play it on your phone!!?? Surely thats not right? I just want to email friends some videos - surely thats not tricky!?
3. Multiple calendar reminders: When I get a reminder I get the option to Snooze All or Dismiss All - but I cant seem to dismiss just one reminder. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for any help

1. The beauty of using a non-Apple smartphone is that you don't have to use a special application to manage your files. Just connect your device to your PC as a disk drive. Browse to it with your file explorer and just drag&drop.
2. Not sure what you mean here. Windows Media Player on Windows can play the videos recorded with the Desire. And Quicktime on OSX can as well.
3. Yeah, there's no way around this one. Bummer...
In terms of photos, why don't you just drag and drop...you don't really need to use an importing tool. That seems overly complicated for what you want.
On the video side of things, you have two formats to choose from. 3gp and Mp4. When you're shooting video there's a tab on the left. Pull it out and at the bottom is the settings. You can then choose "Encoding type" and switch. I believe you'll get the best compatibility with Mp4.
The reminders thing? I have no clue.
1. Issue with sync - OK I will drag and drop. The importer utility is normally quite handy as it only unloads images that havent already been unloaded etc; etc;

I have the choice out of H.263 and MPEG4. Both options output a .3gp file (I presumed that MPEG4 should output a .MP4). Both .3gp give the following message in VLC player "No suitable decoder module: VLC does not support the audio or video format "samr". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this." Media player doesnt give me a message it just doesnt give audio. Google this tells me that there is no easy way to solve this. So how come it works for you?
3. "...Yeah, there's no way around this one. Bummer..." Bummer indeed
Oh well - thanks for your answers guys but I would really love to try and sort this video issue. Incidentally its the same with sound recordings - they use the same samr codec which basically cant be used
Ah, well it seems both RealPlayer and Quicktime can play back the videos encoded with the mp4 or H.263 format.
EDIT - And also Windows Media player. I have read that VLC can't play them due to licensing issues for the AMR sound format.
download and install the k-lite codec pack it will include the classic player which is more than capable of playing these videos. I did have an issue with my vids i was recording when i was making a recording that lasted longer than 10 minutes, it was almost as if the card was too full record properly however the recorder still carried on going, this can be recognised when you press stop on the video recording and it goes straight back to the desktop instead of the camera. when this occurs nothing will play the file as it is corrupt. it must have been a third party program i had installed as when i defaulted the device the problem stopped and it would record as normal.

[Q] good alternative to the video player?

Hi,
i was wondering if anybody knows a good alternative to the default video player on the desire HD.
I'm not expecting Dolby/SRS support since no player except for the default player seems to have that but are there any that apart from showing a name can play continuously (start at a selected video and just keep going) or better yet can play continuously wile shuffling through the available video's?
i have about 140 music video's on my desire HD and it's just annoying to have to select the next one every time and well... no shuffle.
real player seemed promising since u can just jump to the next video manually before the one your watching ends but that feature doesn't seem to work... at least not yet.
i did check google first but all i got was topic's from 2008...

I have tried several to date and have found them all to be disappointing to be frank. They may or may not remember the position in the video you are watching or they distort the screen or they have a clunky interface.
I've been using Rock player for the last few days and it is guilty of all three listed above.
I would be interested to hear of something that delivers:
Video position memory
Multiple format support
Sensible zoom/re-size modes
Sleek interface
I have bneen using vplayer and it seems quite nice, can't comment on the issued mentioned above but I shall do some research and get back to you.
I'm using vplayer beta 4, changed to pay version after this and only time limited trial for b5 forwards. Works great plays all formats resizes well to screen and saves location when file stopped. Had much more consistent results than with rockplayer and streams fine with quick seeking from twonky media server without needing to transcode.
i tried vplayer,
i loved the gesture's for the player, but was not to fond of the file browser and it cant play next video
but i also found mvideo player,
which has a excellent browser (just looks a bit more... modern) has good gesture's (still kind of prefer vplayer's) but can play the next video after the current one ends
not perfect but a lot better then the default.. apart from the no dolby (it makes a HUGE difference on my in-ear headphone's) but the pro's outweigh the con's so it's my new video player until the default one is worth a damn.
ow and it also has excellent scaling.

"youtube like" video player for offline viewing

hi,
well... i'm the strange one, but while everyone is complaining about not able to get real full screen in some cases when you play a video, i'm on the other side, i'm looking for a video player where i could watch videos like how youtube looks like in tablet mode, when you can see other thumbnails next to your video.
before call me crazy, let me explain :cyclops: i love my nexus, i've bought it mainly for its screen, and it is great - but sadly... only when you have hd feed, (oh i love it in hd, and real full screen is great)
unfortunately i do have a lot of music video from the web, and some are really low res. i did change the audio tracks from lossless sources, but couldn't find the videos in better quality, so when i playback my favorite mv's, most of them look awful on the big screen over larged 200% or sometimes 300% :crying: i can of course playback in real size on full screen so the quality is not too bad, but it looks really weird - the big black screen with a tiny video at the center. on the other hand when i watch them on youtube (without playing in full screen) they look ok more or less, the other thumbnails next to the now playing one fill up the empty space.
i'm not sure if such a player exist, but again, i often think something is impossible, then later i find it.
does anyone know something?
Okay this might not be what exactly you are looking for but I think what you really want is a video player where you can resize the playing window so that if the video you are watching happens to be low quality, you can resize it to a smaller frame. In that case try the app Super Video by GPC on the market. It's basically a floating window video player and when you are playing a video, you can resize the window to any size you want. Hope that's useful.

thanks for the tip, it is not bad at all, it would be close enough.
sadly it won't play smoothly. i did install the sw decoder pack or whatever was the name and now plays my files, but the audio is a bit async, and the video freezes or get blocks all over the screen, look like when a slow pc tries to play full hd files... also it takes 10 mins to load 23 thumbnails, then when i close the app, and reopen it starts again, navigating amongst the videos also freezes the app, have no idea what it is. i have mx player, it plays 720p movies smoothly, but these low quality mv's should not be a problem for any player
any idea?
Hmm I haven't really tested this app a lot so I'm afraid I can't help you. I used it to play some videos which I took with the phone's camera and it played fine. If I have to guess then it probably has problems with certain codices and you might be able to fix the problem by reencoding the videos with a different format, but that might be more trouble than it's worth.

i reinstalled it with the codecs as well, and now plays well
but something is still not perfect, because when i played one video, and wanted to start the next one, it froze - totally, i had to remove the battery...
anyway, i keep trying, but now i know at least that it's possible, just seen on youtube that galaxy s3 have this feature by default
thanks again

[Q] Using multi-window mode with Netflix does not work...any tips?

When I use multi-window mode on my Galaxy S with Netflix and any other app, Netflix will pause when I use the other app. This is frustrating because I can't watch a show while checking Facebook, for example (which is the whole point of the multi-window feature). Is there a workaround for this? If not, can someone give me some practical applications for this feature? I've got some in mind, but I'm curious to see what others have used it for.
I have searched for a work around myself and unfortunatly even with root and with the far superior multitasking that TWDetox uses I have found no way to keep netflix playing while multitasked. I think this behavior is intentional from netflix so you don't "miss a moment" but yea it is annoying.
As for uses for the multitask I use it with almost every other video program and it works beautifully. Aside from that the usual use of looking something up while answering an email so I can easily copy and paste. Also using the open in annother app option on web videos lets most play in the built in video player that can be multitasked over any (yes any even without root) app. This makes watching a video while working on something else an easy experience. Add in a Upnp player type app that allows rendering to the player of your choice and even network attached storage videos can play overtop of any app.

Record background music in video

Hi there,
How can I record the music I am listening to while recording video? I want to capture the moment with the music I listen to . It always stops the music playback when a video starts recording. I use the integrated camera app. Stock Android 8, rooted.
Thanks everyone.
Don't think you can, but use the video editor afterwards to add that same track, only takes a few seconds
That is not working as I need tune perfect recording of the exact moment the track is played. I cannot post that.
Which app do I need or which firmware allows that simple function? I remember my old phones being able to do that.

No firmware will allow it, you'll have to look for an app on the play store
Personally I would just edit the audio/video on PC
At least you could edit the mp3 in Audacity on PC to have it start at the perfect place, then use the video editor on Android to add that mp3
Spotify + Instagram?
You can install the "Sound Assistant" from the Galaxy Store and then enable the Dual-App-Sound (in your case, the "sound"-app). Then you can start recording with the camera, and the phone keeps playing the audio, but the Quality won't be the best, because it's recording the sound from the microphone and not internal.
Can confirm
Can confirm. Dual app sound in Sound Assistant and select your camera as the second app will allow you to play music while recording a video. I also suggest (if applicable) making sure that your setting for your volume control in your camera settings are set to system control and not take pic or start video.
Spotify + Instagram works perfectly!

I opened up Spotify and selected the song and then recorded the video through Instagram and it worked perfectly. Thanks!
