Last night i was using my phone right before going to bed. The battery was at about 18% or so left. I got up to get a glass of water then came back to plug the phone in to the outlet only to notice that the red led was not on. I pressed the power button and nothing would happen. The phone completely shut off without interaction. So I panicked a little and plugged to PC USB cable that was attached to my PC and nothing. wasn't detecting or anything. so I press and held the power button and plugged it in at the same time and it powered on again. Anyone know what could have happen?
Only time i faced this problem was when i tried to drain my battery completely. it wouldn't shut down on its own when it reached 0%, so i turned it off myself.. The next moment is wouldn't boot or charge also. Then i held the power button and it came back to life.. Don't know what the exact cause is though

Yea it kind of turned me off on the phone. But I still love it. anyone else have a similar issue like this? I'm hoping that it is the power management issue that some people are having as there is a quick fix with that. I was avoiding rooting or modding my phone, but I might just have to now.
i'm a noob so i don't know much about most of this, but this really sounds like the way my ipod functions if i let the battery "die." i can't imagine that any manufacturer making a phone with a non-removable battery doesn't have it set up to be rechargeable upon plug in.

Ye, furthermore i've read that this is cause but letting the battery ''die'' indeed, it takes time to charge it back up because when you let it die some kind of undervolting protecting is kicking in i guess and soon after it will start to charge
Hello:
My Tab Pro 8.4 has picked up an issue - it stops charging at 89%. Battery monitor - the one built in, as well as GSAM Battery monitor - show the charging increasing charge in a linear fashion to some 85%, then the rate gradually decreases, till the curve flattens at 89%. The phone still claims that the battery is charging.
I just discharged the phone fully, let it recharge - same behavior.
I did root the phone 2 days before, I wonder, if that has something to do with it.
Thanks for any info, Paul.

Hello,
maybe you need to recalibrate your battery. This can be done by deleting batterystats.bin. Search google play, there are some apps, that can do it.

In desperation, I tried few things - first a Nandroid restore to the state just after rooting - that did not help.
Next I performed a hard reset. That fixed the problem for now.
I will carefully put back in the xposed modules I used, an see/hope that the problem does not come back.

Hi,
Did you find the actual cause of this?
I have a stock 8.4, non rooted and I find the same thing, I have attached a screen shot of the battery charge and dream. ...
Can anyone help with this please, the battery is bad enough without it topping off at 89%!!
Cheers,
Ian
Hi,
Has anyone else had this issue?
I let my tab run down to a dead battery, plugged it on over night and it is still only at 87% ...
Its driving me nuts!
I am not rooted, so don't see bow it's anything I have done, any ideas?!;
Thanks in advance

I do not have an answer, but I wanted to thank you for posting - your answer seems to indicate, that this is a issue not related to rooting.
While dealing with this, I have put back the stock rom ( but still with custom recovery on the device ) - which made charging work to 100%, then rooted again. With this config the charging worked for few days to 100%, till if failed again all of a sudden, getting stuck at 91% charge, and claiming, that the charging was ongoing for may hours.
While the charging was broken, I put on the CleanROM 1.0, and that fixed the charging problem again.
I do not see a clear pattern of this failure....
Paul.

This does not "calibrate" anything. Any app that claims to fix the battery meter by wiping this file, is making a bogus claim. All the batterystats.bin files does, is indicate how much battery various apps/processes are using since the last charge. The file gets wiped ever time you connect the charger:
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/google-engineer-debunks-myth-wiping-battery-stats-does-not-improve-battery-life/
What you want, is to reset the "high" and "low" voltage flags related to Smart Battery. If there is an app that can do that, it might resolve your issue. Flashing a ROM also resets the flags (why you always need to do a battery charge/discharge cycle to get accurate readings every time you flash a ROM). So you might flash the ROM you are already on (stock?) and see if that helps.
But the issue itself is odd. If a higher voltage is achieved, I believe the "high" flag should automatically be reset. I shouldn't just "stop" at 89%.
Yes, I have (had) the same problem. I would use the tab through the day, then plug it in. In the morning, it would almost always be around 89...sometimes a bit more, others a bit less. I loaded battery doctor from the play store and set up a widget to kill all but a few specified apps (yeah, I typically try to avoid task killers, but this was driving me crazy). In my case, when I killed the apps, the battery would finish charging.
Theory (take it with a grain of salt as your mileage may vary): either the charger I am using or the tab has 'intelligence' that slows the charging down when it nears full, possibly to protect the battery. Certain apps running (sleeping?) in the background seem to keep the tab perpetually in a near-full charge state -- just enough of a drain to balance the 'slowing' charge. Every time I have killed the apps, the tab has quickly finished charging.
Again, this is just my experience. YMMV Good luck.
Try running the battery down to below 20% then recharge it. That should recalibrate the battery monitor.

i have had the exact same issue , mine stops charging at 54% , need to unplug replug and then it starts charging back again, also from 78% it jumped straight to 100, something is really wrong , how could samsung break something so simple and basic
I've got a very similar problem. It stops charging, usually at something like 40 or 50. If I restart it will continue charging, but not all the way, maybe up to 70 or 80. I think I tried just disconnecting the charger and reconnecting it and it didn't work but I'll try it again as that would be easier than restarting...
I sent it for service and after weeks of back and forth they gave me the old "it's rooted, so it's out of warranty".
F U Samsung. This piece of **** tablet has been messed up since day 1. First with the over sensitive screen and now this. Sony FTW.

You need to unplug the battery under the rear cover. Then plug it back in and boot up and charge it. Only way to fix. I never had issues again after doing that.

Can you please take a picture of the procedure or make a short vid please? You open in from the rear (on the fake leather) of from the front( screens bezel) ?
I have the same problem with my SM-T325 , i've tried everything on forums : reset, hard reset( vol menu button power button) nothing works !
Thanks !
Ps: I'm using genuine 2A white charger and even tried with Asus Nexus 7 charger 2A( ridiculously is that it works better than with the genuine samsung, the white one needs 5 unplug/plugs, with Asus Black charger only 3 unplug/plugs )

My battery has the same issue. I'm going to start charging my Tab Pro 8.4 with a lower amp/volt charger. I think the 5.3 volts & 2 amps puts stress on the internal charging / battery regulator circuit. The 5.3 volt makes the usb cable in the tablet reasonably hot to the touch. (a hunch)
Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 Battery Replacement Video
Update: I scraped the 5.3 volt charger for a standard 5 volt charger @ 2 amps. It won't charge while in use but it does charge to 100% from 5%, powered off overnight. I also tested a 5 volt 1 amp charger (while slower) did charge from ~50% to 100%.
I would like to see others test this theory out.
Would also like to note, I believe Samsung included a 5.3V charger instead of a standard 5V so the tablet is able to charge while in use. My guess is the circuitry was originally designed for the standard 5 volts but once they saw the tablet's charge rate while on, they decided to throw in a different charger to make up for their mistake instead of a more reliable circuit design to handle the volt boost. More then likely they did tests to see if the tablet was able to handle the new charger but did not conduct the experiment for enough time to see the degrading results (faulty battery level readout).
If they knew of the issue in production they could have fixed the issue in a batch revision or recall or they flat out ignored the results and are in denial. Shame on Samsung if this is the case. Funny how they released the "better"("revision") Tab S while refusing to fix the Tab Pro. Now it seems to be biting them in the ass.
I still want to completely test this theory out and give it more time, but so far my assumption is seemingly correct.

I had another interesting experience with this tablet.... it charged 100% without notice that the battery is full(I saw this tiny little detail -battery full icon- ensures that it is really charged) restarted it to verify something and shock !!! the value dropped to 62% and the charging sequence stopped ...and even if it shows "charging" while I'm typing these lines, it dropped to 59% ). **** !!!
Hello XDA members. I have a very troublesome issue with my galaxy tab 3 7.0 inch tablet. It will NOT turn on at all, no battery charging, no device power on, no comp recognition, nothing. I have already tried:
Letting it charge overnight (factory charger along with others) with several known working cables
Unplug battery for 5 minutes
Press and hold power, Vol Down, and home for 10 sec, 30 sec, and 1 minute
Press and hold power and vol down for 10,30,60 seconds.
I sent it in for repair and they wouldnt fix it because it's rooted. When I got it back it briefly turned on to the battery charging, but nothing since. I'm thinking there must have been some way they got it on.... All proper drivers are installed on PC and it's never been dropped, water damaged, etc.
Would anyone be able to provide insight as to why and provide a fix?
My 8 inch tab 3 wasn't coming on either a few days back, I got it back on by holding home and the power button for a while. I was about to give upwhen the battery charging image came on. I think I did the same again and it came on normally.

Not sure if this will help, but just like with phones, sometimes android tablets just need a battery pull. My kids xo tablet went dead and before I tossed it in the trash I took the housing off and had to clip the + wire since it was soldered to the board. Twisted it back together to check and sure enough the tablet powered on like normal. Ive had to pull the battery on an Sm-t217a and it was a lot easier. They have a removable clip that attaches to the board.

I think it might be the battery itself. Just for giggles I left it plugged in for days and i just checked back on it and the Battery charging screen kept flashing on and off. Won't hold any charge. Probably will just order a new battery and see what happens. I pulled the battery a couple times and nothing happened. Closer inspection found that the tech that looked at it damaged the battery cord (unless it came with the copper on the wiring already exposed...)

You might be right about the battery being dead, although they usually don't just go all at once like that. The charge indicator flashing is odd. The only thing close I've seen is an "x" over the icon when there aren't enough amps (my tab needs 2 amps. 1 amp chargers and some pc usb ports give me the x.
If you have an old cable you can cut, you could try to charge the battery itself to see if it takes a charge (or at least use a multimeter on it to check for voltage). Then you could narrow it down a bit to whether it is the battery or possibly the charge port/hardware..... I saw a bit of exposed wire just before the clip of mine too, made me extra careful pulling the clip up.

I wouldn't even know where to start with the wiring. Multimeter isn't something I have access to, and it seems a little complicated for me to spend time on.
When I say it's flashing, I mean the device powers on to the battery charging screen, then dies, wash rinse repeat. If I go into recovery, same thing. It all happens within a couple seconds, so it's hard to describe.
My dad has one that I can pull the battery from, I might do that. Batteries are like 20 bucks on amazon, so I think I'll test with my Dads and if it works just order a battery and report back here.
similar problem here

My daughters tab 3 7 inch T210 also refuses to start. First time it was fixed by opening the device and disconnecting the battery. Now that doesn't help anymore. If I attach the original charger and measure the voltage when the device has rested for some months I can see that the voltage slowly rises so it seems to do the charging even if there is no sign of charging on the screen. After some hours of charging I measure 3,78V on the battery, after disconnecting the battery.
If I attach the battery and turn on the device I measure 3,76V before I push the start button and 3,74V directly after pushing the button. After about 15s the voltage goes back to 3,76V. Nothing happens on the screen... Tried with different combinations of pushing on-button and volume up, volume down, menu....
So -the best thing would of course be a quick visit to local shop to buy a new device of another brand but for some reason I refuse to give up.

The better way to test if your tablet can turn on: buy a new battery, under $15 on Ebay since your old battery is dead or completely drained.
Use the new battery to turn on your tablet. If it's on, check the build number of your device after go to About My Device: if it's not end with OB1, the latest firmware which fix charging issue.
It's more likely your build number is MK1 to NI1, the build numbers count by alphabet order. Upgrade the software via Wifi, battery must be at least 25%, otherwise your tablet won't allow you to upgrade. Bring the firmware to the current OB1, your tablet should take charge normally, otherwise the USB charging port is defective or damaged. This micro USB is cheap, around $2, but it need to solder to motherboard to replace the defective one.
Hi guys, I'm experiencing some power issue with my ZL. I have recently updated via Seus to .283 firmware....once I reboot, it gets to the Sony screen and then it shuts down. If the phone is plugged in it boots fine and remains on. The battery charge shows 80%. Afterwards I unlocked the bootloader and flashed the KK advanced kernel to see the battery percentage in recovery and it also shows 80%. Is there anyway to check if its the battery without replacing it?

There is a battery testing app for Sony devices (you can find it here), but, obviously, it requires your phone to be able to stay on battery power for the time of the testing...
What happens with your phone if you unplug the charger once fully booted? Does it immediately shut down, or is only happening during startup?
The phone shuts down immediately after I remove the usb cord. Offline charging looks as though it's working. I'll see what the app says, thank you.
* btw the phone stays on when in recovery which is odd
* the battery app requires you to remove power which I cannot do
* help me!..using a Z Ultra at the moment...things huge!

Well, yeah, that's what I meant saying the phone has to be able to stay on battery...
I think (just an uneducated guess ) that the recovery doesn't have a mechanism to analyze battery health/status, but the Android OS does (and so does the bootloader). That's why it stays on in recovery, but when booted (or in the process of booting) into the OS, the system somehow thinks that the battery level is too low, and shuts down as a safety measure. I have seen multiple times that the battery levels shown in recovery and in Android are drastically different, which kinda confirms my thoughts...
All in all, it looks to me like your battery is acting up. Just to save you an effort and expense of getting a new battery, at least until you know for sure the battery is the problem, I can suggest something to you... I am expecting a replacement for my battery in a day or two. My old (current) battery still works, it's just old and doesn't last very long, that's why I am replacing it. I could send the old one to you (Vancouver to Winnipeg is not a big deal), so you can try it out to pinpoint the problem. If it works, then you know it's the battery, and you can either buy a new one, or keep my old one for the time being. If you are OK with the idea, just send me a PM with the address to send it to.
I think I'm just going to buy a battery of ebay. I really appreciate your offer to send me your old battery, but its probably best I go new since I don't want this issue arising again. Thanks again for all your help.

No problem! I was just thinking you could use my battery to confirm the problem before buying the new one, not to keep it for the long term, of course (that would be silly). But I am pretty sure it's the battery, anyway... Good luck!
I was wondering if the battery ever fixed the problem, I am having the same issue
really mad, I'm going on a business trip and this started happening. this week I updated the firmware to 293.
I didn't know you could replace the ZL battery.

Hey,
My LG G3 battery's holding a charge seemingly well, but it isn't able to power the phone anymore, for some reason. Off the phone, I've managed to have six common DC motors and 12 High Intensity SMD LED's running for two days, to test the battery capacity, and it managed this feat with 30% battery remaining. It seems OK by me.
But after plugging a single high power DC engine, the battery kinda "shuts down", like it tripped a breaker or something, and only turns on again after I remove the connected device. Several other batteries I own (notably many Nokia BL-5C, originals and knock-offs) are able to hold the high power DC motor flawlessly. Using an amperimeter to hit the terminals, it briefly shows 1.1A before "turning off", while other batteries just keep powered, showing 1.4A, 1.5A on the display.
On the phone, I think that when it tries to pull a high load from the battery, the battery turns off and the phone resets. On a charger, though, it is able to run indefinitely. If I disconnect the charger and don't touch the phone, with the screen on, it'll most likely keep on, until a notification arrives, or when I touch the screen (probably the touch boost that draws energy)
The battery isn't stuffed (i.e. "fat"), looks healthy visually and it seems to hold a charge pretty well, so I don't think it's internally shorted... right? What's possibly wrong with it?
P.S.: I've already ordered two new batteries.

I have the same problem. The phone works only with the USB cable pluged in. Without the cable, the phone goes out to the first notification. Problem starts with the 23/12 CM13 and the 26/12 the phone turn off. I try with the solution in the CM13 tread but nothing works. Stores tell me that it is a hardware problem and not the battery. Service centers are closed until the end of the holidays. I will buy a new battery but I think it is not the solution.
Please let me know if a new battery is the solution to the problem.

Interestingly enough, it happened after a freeze and discharge overnight on CM13.
I do think it's the battery, though, because it also does that in TWRP, and my tests on the battery itself showed a weird pattern of sudden shutdown on heavy power consumption. Perhaps CM13's freeze contributed in damaging the battery, but I think the remaining of the hardware is in good shape. Mine would die on the first notification if sound is enabled, because it'd die just milliseconds after starting playing the notification sound, or just at random after I remove the power cable. I'm 98% sure it's the battery, at least in my case. I've managed to access TWRP, backup CM13, wipe the system and install the new LG Marshmallow ROM, all by using the charger cable. I've managed to boot up on the ROM, set it up and restore my Titanium Backup.
From my experience, stores always lies about "shorts" in the phone motherboard. It's a inexplicable excuse that most of the customers bite. I've had a friend taht was told his "wifi card" from his G3 had "busted", and it needed a "replacement" of the "wifi module only". As you know, the wifi module is integrated in the Snapdragon 801, so that'd be impossible if not replacing the entire SoC. He asked for my help, but I couldn't reach him. Most likely a hard reset and reflash of a stock KDZ would fix his issue, but he had to take it to a "professional", which asked for a good amount of money for "fixing" it. Probably they just did what I suggested, and took his money after a lame excuse.
I could be wrong, too. Although both our phones had similar issues after 12/23 CM13's, my case can be different than yours. One thing that I was willing to try was to rig another battery (like I said, I have many from different models) to the probably damaged LG G3 battery, to see if it holds the phone. Unfortunately, just connecting a different battery to the G3 will show a "?" mark on the screen, similar to that when you plug it in without a battery. Rigging it with the stock battery would fool the phone thinking the battery is original and is running fine, but unfortunately I cannot reach the terminals safely when the battery's connected. I'd rather just wait for the new batteries to come.
Can I post your PM to the thread? It seems very pertinent.
Thanks
I have seen batteries do all kinds of stuff. Most deff hold nominal operating voltages not just on phones but all things theyll hold nominal voltage but the actuall amperage to drive whatever isnt there. Not like a dead cell where forsay a 12 volt car batt has 6 cells 3 pos 3 neg each cell a. 2 volts per cell equalling 12 volts 1 cells bad 10 volts. Now back to even though u tested the batt i would still try a cheap bat and see the g3s are real finicky on batts normally i dont recomend a cheap batt or the bigger batts i always use the oem bat
