Hello people,
I have ordered Zenfone 2 and am awaiting delivery. I have just a few questions. Please answer them:
I have ordered Zenfone 2 with 1.8Ghz SoC /4 GB RAM/ 32GB Storage
This supposedly is a limited edition device for India. Links are as follows:
http://www.ibtimes.co.in/asus-releases-new-zenfone-2-ze551ml-variant-india-price-specifications-631988
https://www.facebook.com/AsusIndia/photos/a.173647212669518.38602.169646083069631/991924227508475/?type=1&permPage=1
This device too is ZE551ML.
So whether all the Methods posted here for the 2.3Ghz/4GB model will work safely on my device??
I'm talking about Rooting and xposed guides posted here.
Secondly, does Rooting void warranty???? As long as i am on the same Asus ROM, there shouldnt be a problem. Right?
Thirdly, which is the best method for Rooting?
On first impressions, the temporary CWM method looks safe to me than the full system image method. Whats the difference between the final outcome.
Thanks in advance.
Awaiting my Zenfone and eager to help Development here.:angel:
it should be the same and you may root it with the same method here in xda.. and its on version ZE551ML too, so whenever the is newer update release you may flash same firmware with ze551ml too.. but i cant guarantee.. just my opinion tho..

second, yes it will void warranty..
third, both method is the same with same purpose, to gain root ability in zf2..but if you have extra prerooted img it wont hurt and also it may help you whenever you face issues such as bootloop..
@cangcan
Thank you for your reply
The basic reason for my worry is that the pre-rooted system images *may* be infected or potentially unsafe (No offence to anyone). Ive had my Xperia C compromised by an unsuspecting ROM. Thats the reason for my concern.
whats your say on this??
@cangcan , Another thing i forgot to ask. If i flash back stock images, i will regian my warranty back right? There is no software switch which switches on rooting??
And if anyone else knows the answer about my first issue as regards to compatability of my device (ZE551ML 4GB RAM / 1.8 Ghz Proc), Kindly reply.

i didnt have any clue about these and cant say anything..if it was the case that you worried about, choose temporary CWM or newer method 1-click root that they posted in zenfone 2 general thread..but so far im also using the prerooted img and never found any problem yet and its clean too..i debloated most of the asus bloatware that i think its useless and so far so good..
the second one, i didnt tried to reflash stock rom yet and im sorry i cant help you about this, but i notices that once you flash prerooted img, the serial number in bootloader mode was changed and its clearly state that my zf2 was rooted/modded.. but i remember once that @MPH1995 said that you may gain back your warranty and zf2 will returned back to fully stock if you flash the stock rom..but no guarantee tho..
There's the one click root method that works without having to install a pre rooted rom or install temp custom recovery.

There's also an option to unroot so this method really should not break your waranty.
I tried it yesterday on my device and I have not run into any problems. I'd say its pretty safe to use.
this is a noob question...if im rooted can i do a factory reset without unrooting first?..and still be fine or its not possible to do factory reset once you are rooted? ty

You can do factory reset if you rooted...No need to unroot the device...

However this will not return to stock. You will still retain root doing a factory reset...

Yes, exactly.... To return to stock u have to unroot and then factory reset or u can just flash the stock rom from Asus support site
So let me get this right since this is my first time rooting and using an Android device. My concern is really the same I want to make sure I get this right. So when rooting the device I will lose warranty right? so if I ever have an issue and need send the phone back to ASUS I need to un-root the device, and do a factory restore correct. By un-rooting and restoring (do I need to restore or just un-root) the device to factory. ASUS will not know that the phone was ever rooted right. Also never do a OTA until I unroot then do OTA and then re-root the phone.

Yeah by rooting u lose ur warranty but no worries just flash the stock ROM and u will get ur warranty back... And yes un-rooting and doing a factory reset will also do...
Un-rooting will only remove root and ur device will not be in its factory state... but if u un-root and factory restore it will bring back the phone to its default state...

Great, sounds clear. I forgot to ask a couple other questions. Once rooted I should download a app like Titanium Backup so if I ever un-root and factory reset. Once re-rooted I can re-download Ti Backup and the backup I created on my SD Card? will still be stored is this correct, or does it store on Ti Backup server. Also what app should I download to be able to download apps to my SD card once rooted.
Thank you all for helping me and bearing with all my questions. I'm coming from Apple and windows phone, and just trying to make sense of all this stuff for Android is a lot to take in. So Thx once again.

Haha no worries I was also an iPhone user. Took me a little time to know about android... Yes titanium backup will restore our apps and ur data...the backup can be stored on SD card as well as on cloud based servers like Dropbox etc... You can download the apps in ur SD card without any app...but u need to give permission to read/write apps on ur SD card... Then u can either move the apps or just select the default storage location as SD card....

So how do I give permission to read/write apps on the SD card. Is that done in phone settings?

Never mind I've found the answer
Hi,
With so much information around, I think I'm just a little lost.
I have the HTC M8 DualSim (international version) and recently got the Marshmallow update via OTA.
I really need to get rid of the bloatware and hence require Root access.
Problem -> everywhere I read, it says 1st unlock the boot loader , which will wipe all data.
I need to keep all the data as-is and my paranoia won't let me backup everything to HTC's backup
any solutions please?
(the phone is very much stock, no changes made to anything)
Thanks!
There are numerous ways to backup your personal data. You should never rely on it being solely on the phone, if that data is important to you. Even without unlocking the bootloader, there is always a chance of random device failure or other causes of partial or complete data loss.

I don't think there is a current way to do that. Unless kingroot works on MM.
First off, I have checked here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/canadian-guide-complete-source-lg-g4-t3212449
And no, it doesn't help.
Story: I want to recover some deleted pictures and videos from a trip (about a month ago) from my internal memory. I have been quite careful and didn't install much into the internal memory since the trip fearing that it might overwrite my deleted contents.
Help: My phone has not been rooted and it has been updated to Marshmallow... I want to know if there is a way to root my phone (maybe downgrade to the 5.x version?) and recover my lost data (at least some of it) without a phone wipe? Or are there are any existing market software (I can pay) to recover the contents without rooting at all?!
I am a newbie here (both in the forum and with tech in general), so please give me any step-by-step guidance if possible.
Thank you so much for all your help in advance!!
So your phone does not boot now? As far as I know there is no way to downgrade without wiping data. If I am wrong someone please correct me.
In the future I would use a service like Google photos to auto backup your photos to the cloud. Makes life much easier.

Hey,
I started using my oneplus 3 and really like it and just found out, that unlocking the bootloader to flash a custom recovery and to root the device will factory reset everything.
Is there a way around this? I dont want to reinstall and setup everything.
Greetings,
Fredyy90
+1. I'm hoping there is but I'm not too confident.
Still searching for a solution ?
There is none and believe me if there was it would be easy to find. Its just a security device of the phone. If you just got it today whats the big deal since there are plenty of ways to back up stuff.
No dont even try. There is no way to unlock bootloader without factory wipe. Its one time post that install as many custom roms u want and internal storage is intact
Hello Dear Members
I ordered a Pixel XL which should arrive tomorrow.
I would like to know what I can do after a Root.
I know that I can take easily a Backup, etc.
But what else?
DBrand seems like a interest Soft Case.
Going for the Black Carbon.
Root is usually used for a specific purpose. If you don't have a need for it right away but think you might want to root later, unlock your bootloader before setting up all your apps on your phone. You can root later without losing any data, but unlocking the bootloader requires a full wipe of the entire phone and ALL data will be lost in the process.
