Multitasking Review Request - Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 Questions & Answers

I know there is this thread: Multitasking/RAM - Galaxy Tab S4 - XDA - but so far, it hasn't received any attention, and I wanted some reviews from this perspective.
I am planning to buy a Tab S4. However, since Marshmallow (or Lollipop - I don't know), it seems that devices are keeping about 2-3 times as much free RAM as in Kitkat. For instance, my Tab S, on Kitkat keeps as little as 250-400MB ram free; while on Marshmallow, it is about 800MB. And this issue isn't limited to the Tab S. So, I wonder again whether Tab S4 would be a worthy upgrade. Except for the lack of stylus, I should be happy with the Tab S for another 2 years.
The issue seems to have been fixed in Galaxy S9 - but it has 6G ram. Where does the Tab S4 fit in?
How many apps can you keep open in RAM?
How much of the 4GB RAM can you utilize?
Thanks!

International Korean versions have 6gb ram. They are available on EBay.

Warranty or Service?

Thanks for the reply! I couldn't find it on ebay - "looks like this page is missing". I did find it on Amazon - but I fear there is no warranty in my country (India), or any guarantee for service. (I did try contacting a local Samsung Service Center and emailed Samsung India - the former simply cut the call saying sorry; the latter said they can only provide guarantees for the Indian versions. I haven't bought an international device before.) So, I am reluctant to buy the international version - I don't want to end up with an expensive paper-weight.
So, if anyone can confirm if the 4GB Tab S4 is good enough for multitasking, it would be easier to make the decision to buy.

This is the one I bought. I cant comment on any other version but this one is amazing at multitasking, especially in DEX mode.

Don´t do the same mistake we did !
There may be an update to KitKat but it would be the last update. (ASUS releases much more updates than Samsung)
And building custom ROMs for the 10.1 variant, is (at this time) unpossible because of the Intel chipset.
If you don´t care about these aspects, it´s still a powerfull tablet for working with documents or watching streams, movies.

Huh. No custom ROMS? Weird. So, you're saying the galaxy was a mistake?

Was, why did you bother even asking the question if the Tab 3 was worth the purchase of you had already purchased it. Yes, the Tab 3 was a mistake, not only is this tablet very laggy do to TouchWiz not being optimized for x86 (should have given you hint when they haven't released another model with this cpu as of yet) but the system only leaves 300mb of memory available to apps. Samsung has been promising Kit Kat for ever and at this point it looks like it will never happen, not only that but the custom ROMs are few to none, with most being abandoned. Sell this piece of crap and my suggestion, would be to never buy another midtier Samsung tablet again. They just don't care, once they release a tablet it's forgotten and layed to the side for the next 20 Samsung released that week. Even the new Tab 4 is a waste of money, the Tab 4 should have been what the Tab 3 was, so it's already obsolete, their just fast-food tablets.
If you check out the general forum the majority of threads are for the 7 inch model, why anyone in their right mind would buy such a piece of garbage is beyond me but you know it's bad when Samsung's cheapest model gets updated before the higher end model and I use that term lightly.
Spend a little money and buy something decent, checkout some of the new Windows 8 tablets they are very good and are reasonably priced.

Is the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 worth buying nowadays?

Hey guys, a friend is offering to sell me his Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 for around 200$.
With a glass screen protector and few cases. He is saying the tablet was barely used and in a "new" condition.
I am looking for a light tablet for YouTube, some Web Browsing and maybe to show my Source Codes in interviews.
But I really like AOSP - it is really important for me to be able to install an AOSP rom. I see that there is a CM13 for this tablet, which is good.
My question is, this tablet is 2 years old already, is it worth buying in this price? Is there something better I can get new for around that price?

Well that about what they go for 'round theses here parts ~200.00€. (i.e. The T325 LTE)
So is it worth it? The Tab S is a few bucks (Checking Fleebay.de between 10~50€), more. And has seen better support from Samsung then our Tab Pro 10's & 8's
Which unlike the Tab Pro actually got Updates to Android 6 Marshmallow. It also features a Fingerprint Scanner that the Pro doesn't have.
Also the Tab Pro comes in 16/32GB Flavors, where as the Tab S comes with 32GB base, and 64GB variants.
So on that front I'd say the Tab S LTE (SM-T715) wins.
That said, The Tab Pro 8.4 LTE, (SM-T325) with its 2GB's of RAM IMHO is more than a capable Device. It can still handle most Games just fine.
And most (if any), of its problems can be traced back to the lack of Dev support of that variant. (i.e. T325 LTE), the T320 OTOH has a broader support base, and is officially supported by CyanogenMOD.
But, I wouldn't let that stop you, as the Dev supporting us has been terrific when it come to nightly builds.
But, I would interject One last thing here though, since you failed to mention it.
Is this Device in question the T320 (WI-FI), or the T325 (LTE) version)?
If its the LTE version then $200.00 for it, is ~ok~. If he's trying to flog off a T320 (Wi-Fi), however, then IMHO hes gipping you.
I wouldn't offer much more then a flat $100.00 for it, my self..
P.s. Odd that I should now check fleebay, and see that some others are actually asking for ~200.00€'s for their T320's...
Damed if I'd know what was so great about that variant, that I would dispose that much cash for one, when I could get the LTE version for the same or less.

Like I said I would pass... For that money there are better options.
Or try to see how far down hes willing to go.
Like I said no 3G / LTE Modems... I wouldn't really pay anything much more then a flat $100.00 for it.
Perhaps a $125.00 tops if he was a really god friend, and needed the money.
But, $200.00 is way too much for that Device. EOS

Like I said for that, theres either the LTE version of the T32x, or you could just look for a T710 (Tab S), Which I've detailed somewhat in my first post.
For $200 you might as well grab a Shield Tablet K1. The TabPRO should be under $150 to be worth looking at now.

What can I replace my Note 8 with?

Mine has died. Repairing it will cost the same as buying a new tablet pretty much.
What is the closest replacement to this great piece of equipment?
Check your local craigslist. Search settings:
Search for: Galaxy Note
Has Image ticked
Owner instead of all or dealer.
There are note 3's available in my area that aren't from a dealer from $100-150 undamaged. What is your price range btw?
Samsung did make a Galaxy Tab A 8 inch with S-pen but it would have to be imported to US as it wasn't for sale here, and it's about $275 on eBay from China and entry level specs, but I would buy one if they were in USA. If interested search sm-p355 on eBay or just p355. I had the Galaxy Tab A 9.7 S-pen version, but the low resolution was too hard to overcome, and 9.7 tablets are just bulky plain and simple.
Honestly I would just buy another Note 8 off eBay, but make sure it's a wifi only model not the ATT or T-mobile model as it a locked bootloader and the s-pen is several millimeters off in 4.4.2 and you'd be stuck. There's honestly not a good replacement in the 8 inch size at the moment. You can get a used one in good condition usually for $100.
Another of the same. Nothing like it or the market. See below...
Ratuken.Com has reconditioned Note 8.0's w/ Sim card slots (AT&T) for under $150. Typing on mine right now. Just replaced my original (cracked screen after 3 years of use). Love it! SIM not required, but now I have data on demand when out of WiFi range.
Search gosale'dot'com.
Check out the Galaxy Tab S2.
Personally I would never buy another Samsung tablet or phone again. Samsung's unwillingness to provide proper source and specs, and especially the specs of their proprietary Exynos CPU, along with not updating the OS for older devices, makes them a non-starter. Even as Nougat is rolling out we still don't have a stable Marshmallow release of CM13 for the Note 8 (and will never have either MM or N from Sammy). Personally I am unwilling to spend $400 every 2 or 3 years to have a current OS with current security updates.
If you have money to burn then consider the Google Pixel C. It is a premium tablet (at a premium price) with Marshmallow and a reasonable expectation of future OS support. If you are cheap like me then look at the Nvidia Shield K1 for "only" $200. It is quite powerful (the GPU is huge for games, etc), has a good display, and stereo front-facing speakers.
Greg
Milkman, if you're wanting a tablet with active stylus in the same size I can't see any other option as an "upgrade". If you're just wanting a tablet then there's a ton of options that are better. The tab S2 8 inch is awesome if you're wanting to stick with Android and don't need the active stylus, or if you want to change to Apple iPad mini 4 is excellent, and offers very good performance over the S2 tablet. But all this said if you still need an active stylus get another Note 8.0, BUT make sure it's not on 4.4.2 because the S-pen is several millimeters off and can't be fixed without drastic software changes, and the ATT model has a locked bootloader so avoid that one.

Help Me Decide

Howdy, folks.
I'm in the market for a tablet, and not familiar with the Samsung lineup, so I could use some guidance here.
First, I'm not sure I understand the difference between the A and S series. I assume it's a CPU issue, and I seem to recall a Tab A that I played around with didn't have an accelerometer and/or GPS, which are both critical for me.
Then we get to the firmware. I need to run Xposed and Xprivacy. Obviously that means I'll need to be able to root the machine. Would I be correct in assuming that I'm stuck with getting an S2, or is it possible to downgrade an S3 so I can benefit from the better hardware specs?
My choices seem to be an S2 at $480 or an S3 at $550 except that the S3 ships with a pen and LP, if I'm not mistaken, which knocks me out of the box in terms of running Xprivacy unless I can downgrade the OS.
Anyway, your input here would be helpful, and any pointers on unlocking / rooting would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
I think since late 2014, the Samsung tablets were split into just two lines, the Tab S, the high-end line, and the Tab A, the low cost line. In my humble opinion, the Tab A line is utter crap and it hasn't been updated effectively since 2015. If you want a cheap low end tablet, you might as well just buy one of those sub-100 dollar Amazon Fire tablets. Their specs are in the neighborhood of those Tab A tablets, but Fire tablets are much cheaper. Quite sadly, I think Samsung's high end line Tab S has also lost its way. I mean, I certainly love the idea of a high end Android tablet, but not at 500-600USD, specially when it comes with outdated flagship SoC, like the Snapdragon 820.
I love my Tab S 10.5, but if I am forced to replace it tomorrow, I'll probably get the Huawei Mediapad M3. Its hardware specs are high end enough to check nearly every box, and it costs under 300USD.
Excellent suggestion. I was wondering about alternatives to Samsung.
How would you compare the M3 to the S3? Can it be rooted? The new Samsung got excellent reviews for both construction and performance, and I confess the pen has appeal. I also wanted a 10"-ish screen, and the Huawei comes in at 8, so while the price is right, you give up a fair amount of screen.
I can pick up the S3 32 gig with a keyboard case for $550, which was more than I wanted to spend, but i can live with it since I'm not the type to buy a new device every year. Or even every two or three years, for that matter.

I have purchased 5 Tab A devices, 3 T280 and 2 T555. Me the missus and little one have the T280, my mother and I have the T555. Both have an accelerometer and GPS. I don't know of a Samsung tablet that doesn't unless you meant gyroscope?
The Tab A T280 is stuck on Lollipop and the T550 runs Nougat.
I don't have issues with either for how I use them.
I also own the Tab S, but I use the Tab A T555 far more as it's light, comfortable to hold and runs just fine.

The first thing I do when looking for a new tab is xda support, if you can't get a custom rom for it, forget it!
M3 support is thin to non-existant, they are just getting it to root, and no TWRP ( I think) , other than that its the best hardware for the price. Tab s2 is good, Tab A fair, s3 just starting.
Xposed is now officially on NU, the main framework has been released, modules compatibility varies.
For that amount of cash, your in ultrabook / chromebook territory.
A tablet that does not fit in a pocket, and costs the same as a dell ultrabook with 256 gb hdd and an i5, is a bad choice maybe?
I use my t705 as a pocket device, with the aspect ratio it just fits, and the fact that's its also a very cool phone makes it a nobrainer.
Also remember the folding screens are just months away, once they are out most of the current tabs will be obselete real quick.
I want something larger format (~10") for use when doing demos for customers, casual browsing or web work away from my desk or when traveling for short spans. An 8" screen is not of interest.

You wil definitely notice the shty lcd screen.
Did the same exchange (for S7+), and I do really love some stuff:
- 120Hz screen, this is very noticeable if you are used to that frequency.
- Official keyboard accessory isn't crap anymore, it won't disconnect easily and has touchpad. No more external mouse.
- Camera is best now, as its located horizontally instead of vertically
- Fingerprint reader >>>> Optical
- RAM improvement is great. Many people don't often see that, but if you are multitasking is quite easy to observe. Specially if you ran Linux inside.
- Audio is definitively better.
If you are artist (I'm not), S-Pen is noticeably better, more responsive. If you have some official cover, it won't fall easily. S-Pen protection at S4 tab was awful, I lost that S-Pen once while traveling.
I also did the exchange/trade in with my old 12.9 inch iPad Pro 2017 model. They gave me $500 for it which is like practically what I bought it for almost 4 years ago. So couldn't turn that down. Unfortunately Pro-Motion on the iPad Pro (120hz refresh) really spoiled me and there was no way I'd be able to go back to 60hz refresh. Luckily Samsung came out with these otherwise I'd of been forced to get another iPad Pro. Not that I hate iOS but man after using it for 4 years and then coming to Android again you really notice how restrictive iOS is.
Have had it for about a week and a half now. I grabbed the S7+ with 256gb storage mainly for the extra 2 gigs of ram. I don't tend to really use to much storage, but figured the extra 2gb of RAM would be nice. Not sure if it'll makes a difference but I figured it can't hurt and may help future proof the device a bit down the line as I plan on keeping this for years. I heard the LCD screen on the regular S7 is actually quite nice so you should like it. The speakers are excellent, get very loud and sound good. SD 865+ makes the device very snappy. The fact it comes with a S-Pen is also awesome. I find myself using it often even though I don't do any kind of drawing or art like stuff.
I've been very happy with everything so far and I'm sure you'll love it as well. Samsung did a great job this year with this tablet!

I've been very happy with everything so far and I'm sure you'll love it as well. Samsung did a great job this year with this tablet!

I got the WiFi only version. Surprised AT&T doesn't have it yet. That seems weird. Its been on the market for like 6 months.
I've only owned one tablet with data and that was actually the first generation of this tablet, the Tab S 10.5. I don't know if you would be able to ever change the carrier though. I was going to say I wouldn't think so but honestly I'm not sure. I had mine stolen all those years ago so I never saw if I could unlock it. I presume once its paid off they wouldn't care about it being unlockable. But what do I know lol. Hopefully someone will respond who can shed some light on this for you bud.

I just got the S7+ a few days ago, really liking it so far. I got the WiFi only model. Had a Tab S6 LTE through Verizon but I never really used the LTE as I was always in a place with WiFi. Went with the unlocked Samsung version of the S7+ since Verizon likes to remove features like Call and Text on other devices. I love that feature between my Fold 2 and S7+. Plus I wanted the larger screen of the S7+ as I use it primarily for media consumption.
