Interesting battery life difference in Tab S 10.5 WiFi and Tab S 10.5 Verizon

I've been using a Tab S 10.5 Wifi for a couple of weeks. It's set up with all of my apps and tools, but is stock. Overall, I've been fairly pleased with it, but the performance was quite stuttery, and the battery life was painful. I don't have stats with me, but I almost always had power and battery concerns with it.
Today, I picked up an Tab S 10.5 LTE from Verizon and set it up the same way as the WiFi. I've only been able to work with it for a few hours so far, but the performance difference is quite noticeably better, and the battery life so far seems *way* better than the WiFi.
I'll try to keep an eye on it - I just thought it could be useful information for someone.
Most likely because the US carrier LTE versions (T807) run with Snapdragon vs Exynos (T805), and TW for whatever reason runs much, much smoother on Snapdragon. I've been getting great performance and battery from my Sprint LTE version so far.
Definitely a big difference

I went and tried out the Wifi Exynos (T-805) version at my local Tigerdirect store and then the LTE Snapdragon 800 version (T807) at Sprint store. I turned on the developer's mode in both and turned on the GPU utilization monitoring in the Monitoring section of the developer's mode. Here is my impression:
1. The T807 definitely is a lot smoother than the T805 when browsing through the TW. I would say it's about 30% smoother.
2. The graphic monitoring tool shows a lot more clippings in T805 than T807. As matter of fact, every time I scroll through the MX UI page by page, the T805 GPU clips a lot more than the T807, resulting in quite a bit of stuttering.
3. I didn't compare the video playback that closely but the T807 seems to be quite smooth and I didn't notice much of a frame skips.
I believe that TW is optimized for Snapdragon chip but not so for the Exynos. Also the GPU in the Snapdragon 800 is better than the one in Exynos. This makes the T807 a lot more usable than the T805. It actually is quite good. However, it is still not as smooth as the ipad air 2 I tried out in the Sprint store. That's especially true in the web browser. Apple's browser is a quite a bit smoother and faster from what I can tell. But the Tab S screen is certainly better than the iPad air 2 by a good margin. I am a bit disappointed at Tab S screen 's grey scale in the deep black region. It lacks some grey details when in the dark grey to black transitional region.
The SM-T807x variants have a different CPU, as mentioned above, Snapdragon 800 on the T807 vs Exynos 5 Octa 5420 on the T805 with the 5433 on T805S/K/L.
The Snapdragon is usually the choice for Samsung's top tier LTE devices in the USA (both phones and tablets it seems).
I picked up the T-mobile Tab S (SM-T807T) and am loving it, but holy **** it's expensive (practically $700).
Wish there was some development for it, but I won't hold my breath.

Note 10+ vs S20 Ultra 5G

Anyone thinking of switching? interested to read people's opinions on this. I'm very tempted because I get no service on Tmobile at work so hopefully 5g solves it..but I. I not convinced yet I guess il wait until presentation on Feb 11th.

5G is still on hand 71 for T-mobile so if you have a Qualcomm US Note 10 plus and don't get service at work then 5G won't fix that issue yet.

I was thinking of switching but then I saw the price.
So far only talk of Ultra 5g, if there is a Ultra without 5g and a lower price I'll consider it but right now as much as I want the camera I can't justify it 6 months after buying the N10+.

If all the specs are true to current leaks then I will definitely upgrade from my Note 10+.I'm pretty stoked for a 16 gig 6.9 inch 120 hz. display and the 108mp. Camera combo.

The only turn off is When enabling 120Hz, it will set the display resolution to FHD+ / 2400×1080. I might just wait until the new note since the utilize the spen alot
idk yet, I'm waiting for a definite info on the new 3D Max fp sensor if they'd add it to the S20 or not, that's the only thing I don't like on my N10+. Other things to consider is saying goodbye to the s pen which I like a lot.
As for 5G? - am ok with LTE for now since it'll take some time(years?) for 5G to get a full implementation everywhere, right now it's just a promise for which we have to pay extra 'up front'.
Another pressing question is about that 108 mp, specifically: how will the image processing handle all that load, I hope they will make people happy with the results.
So, if not the Ultra model, for the sake of saving some bucks, what's good the S20+ brings? Right, a new SoC, 120Mhz(most of us will probably switch back to 60) and better then N10+ cameras – is that enough to get rid of N10+ and additionally shed an extra $500 - $600 for the trade? Me thinks not.
For better pics I'd rather buy the new Sony A6100(~$600)
Definitely will get the S20 Ultra....keeping my Note 10+
yup, i'll definitely be getting it. had the s10+, note 10+, note 10+ (star wars edition) and now the ultra once released. I get bored rather easily and always want the new hotness. and since the pixels have been letting me down lately, my only guilty pleasure are the Samsung phones. I hope there's a ceramic version like the s10+.
I am definitely going to get it - can't wait to see what the camera can do. From what I have read, while it is a 108 mega pixel cameara, the S20 ultra will combine pixels (four pixels) to help improve how much light is going to come in - I don't understand the specific workings of it all - but in the end, it sounds like it is going to be amazing. Camera, Big Battery, Huge Screen, no Bezels, it sounds like it has everything youi might want in a SmartPhone. Just a few weeks away, I can't wait.
I also like to get the best of the best when they come out like @chetly968. Kind of "oooh, shiny, me want!" situation but I'm not completely room over by the leaked specs. I know that it's a good upgrade to the S10/+/e range and the Note 10 range but it's like what @mzsquared said, are the upgrades worth the extra cost you'll have after trading in the Note 10+ 5G.
I'm going to watch the event and see what they say. It's usually the case that all the new upgrades in the S range get to the Note anyway in addition to extra upgrades.
It's a matter of do you want to wait, how do you use your Note 10+, do you use the S-Pen, would the experience be the same if you get the S20.
I gravitate towards the top phone on the Note range when it's launched, primarily because the Note range have more of a square body rather than the rounded corners on the S range.
I guess we'll see what they have in store for us next week.
Nope not getting it , It's not a upgrade from Note10 Plus to a S20 , basically it's a downgrade, so i won't downgrade, I'll wait for the Note11 or Note20 what ever they will call it. So for now I'll stay on my Note10 Plus, Also the Note10 Plus will still be better till i get the Note11 or Note20.

I feel like I have no reason to switch really.
It's not like getting a hopefully much better camera is going to launch me a photography career.
I really don't see any benifit when this phone is already fast, modern, and super adequate for life.
Save the money, go on a trip, cause having the latest phone is not a measurement of living life.
The performance gains will be minimal. I won't be upgrading.

No S Pen, no S20.
I will wait Microsoft Surface Duo! This is a good hybrid and a serious competitor for fold and note series.

Reserved S20+ anyway, now I have a few days to actually think about buying it for real, will see...
My reasoning starts with the trade value, Samsung offers $700 for my N10+, most of the Swappa's listing are right now in mid $600's(not to mention the involved hustle), sad, but that's the reality of a free market. Maybe I could settle down now with this S20+(5G though the 5G 'grid' has not been built yet around where I live)
It'll probably still suck with that same ultrasonic fp sensor I guess, am getting used to it on my N10+.
Definitely keeping my N10+ until the N20+ or whatever they call it. 120hz screen only at 1080p according to MKBHD. At least thats what he said in his video.
S20 looks ugly to me with those non curved edges, not a significant upgrade from Note 10 plus imo
Sent from my SM-N976U using Tapatalk
that huge battery may not be as impressive as it sounds when its got to power all that.
also...some reports say ultra has a true optical zoom of 4x and others say 5x...either way i do believe the 10x hybrid optical as they call it will be optical level...seems the further digital zoom will be more useful than it sounds as it appears to have good stabilisation.
they did mention in reveal yesterday that a lot of the software improvements mentioned will come to the s10+ in updates.
also...you could buy two 65" lg ultra hd hdr smart tv's with freeview and satellite tuner built in for the price of s20 ultra*[https://b-static]*...and still have change

Sorry if this offends or seems controversial, but I can't help but surmise that people considering buying the S20 don't really need a 'Note' device anyway.
For me, in my daily life, the 'S Pen' is indispensable. No matter the features offered by any other device, without the 'S Pen', it's just not complete.
Signing and translating documents, editing media, and even typing, with my large stubby fingers, are much more efficient on a 'Note', resulting in higher productivity.
The S20/+/Ultra, whilst very good devices, on paper at least, just can't cut it for me.
So, no thanks, will wait for the Note 20?, but even then, it would probably need to incorporate all under screen sensors. So, maybe no update till the Note 21.

Is it worth it to upgrade from the Note 8?

There seems to be a numver of issues with the S20, and nothing has really tempted me to upgrade aside from this phone.
My phone is becoming useless though. It's very slow, has a terrible screen response, and the battery is shot. This phone has disappointed me more than any other Note, and I don't even use the S pen often.
I'm not waiting on the Note 20, so would you upgrade to the S20 from the Note 8?
My husband and I are discussing the options for which one, I'm probably going with the ultra so I can have the camera, but we will never have 5G anywhere we live so that part is useless.
Does BK package disabler or a similar program work with this phone? I know never being able to root the Note 8 drove me nuts.
Thoughts?
I have an unlocked note8 and bought the AT&T S20 plus.
For me, the answer is yes - it was worth it.
I debated a long time about the Ultra - I think both the plus and ultra models are wonderful.
"zoom" camera even on the regular S20 is objectively better than the Note8.

Upgraded from note 8 to S20
I myself upgraded from a Note 8 to an S20.
Mind you it is the S20 and not S20+ or ultra.
Both are exynos so my experience will be biased for exynos markets only.
1. Screen : Not much different in terms of screen quality but that refresh rate, IMO is the best thing for me as I can scroll endless pages of instagram and youtube and website scrolling is so amazing.
2. Camera : By far the biggest improvement from the Note 8 is the camera modules here.
I am not much into 8K gimmics but using the ultra wide, the Smooth 60 fps in both 4k and full hd are phenominal. Pictures come out very good.
3. Battery life : Using the 120hz leaves very little room for better battery life than the Note 8 but I am sure if in a pinch, dropping the screen refresh rate to 60 will easily give me a couple extra hours. So it will be good for those long road trips.
4. The best part , THE SMALL SIZE : Well, not really a small size at 6.2 inches. However, it is a huge difference between the huge note and this little handy yet powerful phone. The note 8 is roughly the size of s20+ and beleive me the note feels cluncky as hell now that I am used to the size of s20.
5. App opening speeds and basic day to day performance is far superior to that note.
Note: You may feel like the s20 heats up like crazy if used in continuation a lot or if some high end game is played for long, well I faced that problem a lot and I have already opened a thread in the discussion sections to talk with other owners about the problem. I found out that restoring from my note 8 using samsung switch was the biggest mistake I could do. I then cleaned the phone by doing a factory reset and set it up as a new device and I must say, I could not be any happier.
I would say go for the S20. You will not regret it.:fingers-crossed:
Thanks,
Kunal

S20+ 4G /S20+ 5G or S20 Ultra 5G

hi,
I have Galaxy S20 Ultra since the pre-orders, Exynos 990 variant.
I am pissed of about the S20Ultra camera which is worse than even S20+ ..
I am planing to ditch it and get a S20+ (still Exynos variant due to EU constraints).
And I am getting all kind of review over the internet /youtube regarding which one is better and which one is not.
From what I understand 5G is almost not exiting as network and therefore 5G variant now is pointless. But the 5G phone hardware is still consuming battery, though..
So even if S20+ Exynos has 4500mha battery less than Ultra, it has only 4G and thinking better SoT /battery life to be..
P40 Pro lacks Google Play Services and even though you can install them, Google Photos not working and some notifications not showing.
And also from the past days seems that camera suffers from focus and blurry OIS..
So any suggestions and reviews are welcomed.
Thank you in advance.

Hi, the real question is : what do you want to do with your new phone that you can't do with your actual phone
filming for personal and business to be able to edit in final cut and take pictures for personal and business reasons at a proper quality.
oneplus 8 pro compared to s20ultra pictures at least were so sharp and clean.. and then i saw s20+ is better than oneplus 8 pro..
With the S20 ultra I find it hard at times to get proper focus on still objects, let alone moving objects or when taking videos. It's not hunting to focus, it's just not focusing on anything, just blurry until I tap on the screen a few times til it finally focuses. Doesn't happen all the time, but just enough that it's irritating. The S20+ may give you more consistent results.

Great pictures, I can get those same results. But it's irritating that on my 3rd phone I still have situations where it just won't focus. A common issue that's been talked about everywhere. So at least I k ow I'm not the only one that has issues with this disaster of a camera.

it's looks the exynos version is better with focus, so far everything is perfect for me day or night 4K or 8K, as they say, my fingers crossed:la victoire:
To get 5G or not depends actually on your area and how frequent you travel or change phones.
If your area already has 5G, go ahead, get a 5G phone (If it is compatible. Samsung's 5G support seems to vary with region.. Some supports only low and mid-band waves, some mmwave... some both.. )
Even if your area already has 5G, the coverage may not be very good yet with gaps in coverage. when this occurs, the phone will drain your battery trying to search for 5G.
Personally, i would hold off getting a 5G phone until the roll out is stable enough with reasonable coverage. or just switch off 5G and use 4G.
Regarding the plus or ultra, it depends on you. If you need the zoom capabilities, get the ultra. But take note, due to the physical camera lens limitation on the s20+ and ultra, at certain zoom levels the s20+ can take better photos.
To make it easier to understand, from the camera app there will be 3 icons (well at least for the S20+). these icons represent each len. For the s20+, it is the wide angle, main, and telephoto zoom lens. Using these 3 selection will give u the best image. If you pinch your finger on the screen (to zoom in further), you are using the digital zoom, which in most cases, doesnt yield the best photo.
the S20+ zoom lens is more suited to casual shoots. the S20 Ultra telephoto zoom is a bit unusual for casual shooting. most of the time you will be using the zoom range of the S20+ telephoto lens, thus for casual photo taking folks, the S20+ usually yield better result than the S20 Ultra.
S20+ works great, no issues with focus etc - highly recommend as user myself
I have the S20+5G Exynos and have no issues what so ever. I highly recommend getting it. I have been a Samsung user from the start.
Import the Snapdragon model if you can. Exynos and Snapdragon have different image processing and from what I've read, the general consensus is the Snapdragon image processing is better overall. Furthermore, battery life is better on Snapdragon, so Snapdragon would be a win-win for you.

Question Few questions about the S22

Hi,
I'm thinking of getting an S22, but I would appreciate your help with answering a few questions first: (if you don't want or can't answer these questions, please skip to the end of the post)
1. I understand that the Snapdragon version is much better. Is it also more supported community/ROM wise?
2. How is the battery life, if the phone is usually on idle, with a few phone talks over the day, some music, and lets say about 1 hour of screen time (continuously)? If that is the usage for a day, will it last for two days? (approximately, based on your experience)
3. This One UI, is it good, comfortable to use? Can it be replaced by replacing a launcher, or do you have to flash a new ROM?
4. Speaking of ROMs, I assume flashing ROMs/kernels is still pretty easy? The last Galaxy phone I had is the S1 and a lot of time has passed, but I remember not struggling much, and coursing through ROMs was a breeze.
5. I know you'll probably be biased towards the S22, but I'm debating over it VS the Pixel 7. Considering the fact that I can't use the unique features of the Pixel 7 (Google assistant screening spam calls, making appointments, etc.) since I don't live in the US or a country where these features are supported, and that I prefer smaller screens, which one should I choose?
In general, what do you think of the phone? Are you happy with it? Can you provide examples of pros and cons?
Thank you!
Limited max of 256gb internal storage, max of 8gb of ram, no expandable storage, and a small 3700 mAh for a power hungry Snapdragon.
Rounded display corners and a lousy ~87.4% screen-to-body ratio. blah.
Snapdragon's are notoriously hard or impossible to root. The stock launcher is superior to any 3rd party launcher.
If 5G and a variable refresh rate display (which are known to have multiple issues including less color/gamma accuracy) aren't important to you a N10+ in good condition or new is a better choice and cheaper. It's a solid performer.
Otherwise OP phones seem to have a better track record than the last 2 generations of Samsung's.
Thanks for your answer. Actually I'm perfectly fine with 128GB of storage, the amount of RAM is incredible (I'm not a heavy gamer, not even a gamer on mobile) and the screen size, ratio is fine for me I guess.
I am worried about the Snapdragon version being impossible to root, because the Snapdragon version phone is much faster from what I understand. Also it's very strange, I've had no problems rooting previous phones with Snapdragon.
It will sound funny but I do want a high refresh rate, for me it's important the the phone feels smooth. I'm already hearing about the Pixel 7 having scrolling issues and that concerns me because like I said, I'm also thinking about buying it, if not the S22.

You lose nothing by waiting. I don't buy a new phone every year or two in part because it's always a crap shoot. Waiting reduces the odds of getting stuck with a dud. 128gb isn't much storage; my minimum is 256 and that's with a 1tb SD card used as a data drive. Basically it's my PC, all my PC's are dual drive, even laptops.
I keep seeing good things about OP, they seem to have less display issues. For a gamer that might be a good choice. My requirements are different from yours, I have one game which runs well
I really like Samsung's UI and the Good Lock family of apps that modify it. The almost endless free icon packs and themes on the Galaxy store. Pixels homescreen's look gaudy and barren by comparison. Not many stock mods either. Samsung's can run very well stock once optimized. They need to be optimized... and that will take time until you're up to speed.
Warning, learning curve ahead. That's another big reason I don't upgrade firmware or devices often if the device is fulfilling its mission. I'm a conservative pragmatist and will use whatever comes in handy. Think it through and get what best suits your requirements and fullfills the mission with minimal maintenance. That's all the counts
Media server in progress; 240gb in mostly .wav files, over 150gb, many are hd movies. All stream seamlessly from the V30 rated card. When watching them from storage my SOT is as low as 6%@hr vs browser streaming at 12%@hr. Writes at about [email protected] from internal storage.

Because color accuracy and calibration directly impact gamma accuracy/calibration the fixed rate refresh rate display of the superb N10+ display is uniquely qualified for this role. My decision wasn't rushed or arbitrary when I went with a second N10+ as a backup. It was purely mission and fun oriented. For my purposes no other device even today is better suited or qualified... which is sort of sad.

The P7's screen can "only" reach 90Hz while all S22 variants can go up to 120Hz, so it's not comparable.
Rooting Snapdragon models is a problem mostly for carrier devices. The Snapdragon S90xE models are easily rooted and also have twrp if you need it.
My S901E (regular S22) just got updated to android 13 which I obviously rooted too and it's running great.
Pixel 6 and 7 series are only older samsung exynos (oops tensor) devices with vanilla google os ...
If you're worried about S22's battery, just don't compare it with bigger phones, or at least just do some maths to convert its most relative known SOT to correspond to the target compared device's capacity. You'll end up saying "it's great for a 3700mAh battery, really great ..."

My S901E (regular S22) just got updated to android 13 which I obviously rooted too and it's running great.

Good! The model I can buy locally is SM-S901E/DS, and I don't live in the US, so according to what you're saying, I can root it, right?

What kind of SOT are you seeing now on an optimized S22? What's SOT with 5G disabled or if locked to 60hz?

I was getting easy 5 to 7 hours SOT a day with no special optimization. 120Hz, no gaming, no social networks, just calls, surfing, taking pics, whatsapp messaging, youtube (revanced), ... and some fews other boring apps.
I can even get more if I switch from 4G to 3G and creating a 4G manual routine when needed (because why keep power hungry 4G during the day while I only need its speed occasionally)

Lol, what's 3G? No such thing here anymore.
I run 4G with wifi always disabled. Google play Services, and Gmail are at most times disabled and all cloud apps never run. Playstore is rarely enabled. About 80 packages are blocked.
WhatsApp is likely killing more than it's fair share.
My stock N975U1 is getting a lot better SOT even with a derated battery (3400-3700 mAh).
My question is what's eating so much power, is it the display, 5G, the Android version (scooped storage)?
These newer phones have more efficient ram and the SOC should be more efficient as well.
Even now streaming vids I get 12-14%@hr. The battery is near replacement level (20% degraded)... when I get around to it.

Lol HSPA+ and even GPRS are still available in my country. Switching to 3G allows me to have slightly more SOT.
Regarding optimization, I learned the hard way that too much tinkering can give inverse results and even kill the "smart" part of the smartphone.

No 3G here killed my oldest phone.
Yeah if you go too nuts optimizing it will end up biting you. Beginning with Android 10 Samsung added dozens of small systems apks that mostly to modify the UI. Most shouldn't be touched.
My list of blocked packages is almost the same for the Q loaded N975U1 as used on the Pie loaded N975U though. Took quit a while to work it out the first time... dependencies are a witch.
For me the phone is fine in most regards.
Exynos is plenty fast for daily use and battery life is supposedly better than snap.
I am new to Samsung as well and am not impressed by modding options.
To me it is clear that Samsung is the most Apple like android.
Rooting is no issue, but you will lose DRM verification, so lower quality YouTube Netflix and such.
A PC is always needed to flash an update, which for some of us has been impossible without full wiping by the way.
I can get 2 days with light use similar to what you described.
I do have 5g disabled as 4g is crazy fast already where I live/work.
A bit of debloating, mostly as i am annoyed by all these apps being there.
Oneui is actually quite good, but some mods with good lock and running nova.

Thanks!
A bummer with DRM, I thought this was exclusive to Sony (I currently own Xperia XZ2 compact), didn't think I'd encounter the dilemma whether to root or not because of this DRM again.
A question (for everyone here), how is call quality? Can you hear the other person clearly, can they hear you clearly? Is the speaker loud enough when on speaker?
I know it's a basic question but it's something I thought about because Google started rolling out "Clear calling" in the Pixel 7 and although I'm very much leaning to the S22, this seems like an important advantage of the Pixel (unless somehow the feature will reach Samsung or people with other phones).
Yeah DRM sucks a bit, especially since the screen is worth the quality content.
I found out after rooting only, but I can definitely live with it.
To me rooting is still worth it in the end.
Not much to say regarding call quality, i don't call a lot.
I have never been bothered with the quality or speaker volume so I suppose it's not very bad.

DRM can be fixed by magisk modules.
Call quality is great even on loudspeaker.

Hi,
I'm thinking of getting an S22, but I would appreciate your help with answering a few questions first: (if you don't want or can't answer these questions, please skip to the end of the post)
Thank you!

1. I have SD version. I used to flash Custom ROMs on all my previous phone after those stop receiving updated OS. Also for not missing out new features. Right now, with 4 years of OS guarantee by Samsung, I don't see myself going for custom ROMs on my S22. I use Magisk and a few other modules.
2. Battery life is very subjective and personal. For me, it lasts 24 hours on a single charge with 30% left before I charge it again. I don't play heavy games. I have Sudoko, Alto's Adventure, and Flappy Bird (hahaha).. Just to pass the time when I am waiting for someone or something. That's it. I save the heavy/real gaming for bigger screens and PC (for better experience)
I too had less than ideal battery endurance during the first two weeks. It's been the case for the past Samsung devices I have used. So, I knew it would improve after settling in. I resetted the phone before I manually configured the apps and transferred my old data to S22. (Painfully long process) Usually do with Titanium Backup Pro but I wanted it to be a fresh start.
On a regular day.. Connected on WIFI always. 2 SIM cards (1st 2G/3G/4G and 2nd only 2G). I use Slack with 3 different workspaces. 5 Emails on Gmail ( 3 syncing regularly), 1 Samsung account syncing, 2 more work emails syncing on Samsung Email app. Some Chrome use. FlipBoard, Pocket, and Medium reading at the end of the day. Whatsapp, Whatsapp Business, and Telegram usage. Google Drive and Sheet. A few pics here and there.
10 mins of Social media if neeeded. Sometimes music. No watching videos on a regular day. Some 30-60 mins of calls. Buds Pro and Amazfit T Rex Pro connected always.
I get 4 to 5 hours of Screen on Time with 22 to 24 hours overall usage, still with 30% battery remaining. I don't spend time outdoor during day time, so the screen doesn't have to be fully lit. Auto Brightness manages it. Biggest draw on battery for me is the video call, some 18-20% an hour. Next is the outdoor navigation for 10 mins, lost like 3-4%.
I have removed FB app, MS apps and a few Google apps. Also a few Samsung apps which I found no use for. Though I have Root, I found ADB is much easier than Root for removing/disabling these apps. 120 Hz Adaptive refresh rate on. Adaptive Battery. Add some apps to Deep Sleep. That's it. Greenify didn't seem to make a difference in my usage. So stopped.
Accubattery Stats are like.. Discharge 1% an hour on Standby and 10% an hour on screen usage (Wifi and indoors). (I have installed around 100 third party apps on this phone)
I was waiting on the sidelines for the first few months. Was waiting for Samsung to release some updates and improve the battery endurance (as usual). Online reviews were mostly negative due to their usage patterns. My usage is different from theirs. I am still little upset at Samsung for being a jerk by reducing the battery capacity instead of increasing it, just like any other greedy company. So the negative reviews are necessary to call out their wicked move. Hey, if your usage is something like mine, you can go ahead. It's not bad at all. Better battery than my S8 when it was new and 20% less efficient than my S20 FE 5G or A52.
3. I am on One UI 5.0 Stable/Rooted. So far, So good. Minor but good improvements from One UI 4.1. I am using Nova Launcher Prime.. been like this for the last 5 years. I just don't like the homescreen and app drawer arrangements on One UI. That's all. Everything else is so good. I personally love One UI for its functionality. It has evolved a lot. People complain about bloatware either have not used One UI 3 or later versions on flagship devices. Bloatwares are there in mid and low end devices, that too getting less nowadays (comparing with M12).
4. I too was tempted to try custom Kernel during the first week. But I wanted to wait and see what this device had to offer in terms of battery life. I am happy without custom kernel. Flashing Custom ROMs and kernels are just like any other Samsung phones. But I find it much easier than Moto or Xiaomi phones.
5. I replaced my S8 with S20 FE 5G and I didn't like the size. I replaced it with S22. Compactness, easy to use. Better cameras than S20 FE 5G. Average battery life. Good build. One UI is good. If I had the chance to decide again, I would still choose S22 over Pixel 7 or 7 Pro. Overall experience matters than a few extra features.
I hope this helps!
Edit: One UI 5.0 has come with a feature, Bixby Text Call - similar to Pixel's Call Screening feature. I have no use for it. I haven't tried it. Currently, the translation/transcription only supports Korean language.
Call Quality with and without Wifi Calling/VOLTE enabled, is super clear for both parties. Better than any phone I have used, even their own S8, A52, and S20 FE 5G. Even on loud speaker, I would sit a few feet away from my phone and still it would be clear to both parties without any issues. We also have inbuilt sound quality settings to tweak to our needs. I found this for the first time on One UI 4.0
@Vorion Thank you so much for this very detailed answer!
By the way, about the Bixby text call, from what I understand it's not like the Pixel's call screening feature, it's actually designed to make you communicate with someone in a "text call" - you type messages, the other side hears your messages in a Bixby's automated voice. What the other side says you will read as it will be converted to text.

I have had my S22 for approximately 2 months and am not happy with it. It is more to do with Samsung than the device because I had a S9+ before and traded it for the S22. The Samsung advertising leaves a lot to be desired. It said I could get a S22 Ultra with my tradein for only a couple hundred. As it turned out the S22 was almost full price. They said the offer was for a S22+ traded in for S22 Ultra would only be a couple hundred. So I settled for the S22. I just should have had my S9+ fixed (The front and back separated from the frame). The S22 doesn't have a micro card slot so you can't add memory(storage). The side buttons are different fromt he S9+ and positioned differently so I continually hit the wrong buttons. I don't know the Pixel 7 so I can't compare that one. I just know I'm not happy with the S22.
