Can't Skip "Choose Screen Lock" - Xiaomi Mi Max 3 Questions & Answers

Hello,
I'am on MIUI 10.3. eu 9.3.21. When I try to finish Mi Max 3 setup the problem is as described in the title of the thread. I have to choose pattern, pin or password. There is no chance to skip this screen without any choice.
What can I do?
Regards
Robert

You have a pattern protection on your device, and you set the pattern you have selected to ask you for pattern when you start your phone up, reboot to system and remove pattern lock and then you should be fine...
Next time when you set an pattern select no thanks option as shown in the screenshot.
Ditto
If there's a pattern, it usually means you've got a pattern lock. Use the same pattern and it'll be locked.
Just use the same pattern that you use if you startup you're Android device. When you have no pattern, go to settings > locksreen > then remove pattern if not done already > set new pattern > there will popup a messege asking is you want to use a start-up password (or something like that) > No thanks. Should work now.
It is a good idea to have some security on the recovery but the interface is dodgy. It normally takes 2-3 tries because the screen can't seem to keep the touch and drag registered nicely.
See if this helps. This will remove whatever password you have set on your device.

Disable On Boot Password

Hello everyone, I'm a newbie to the OnePlus world.
So my question is: how can I disable the password that is required before android is launched on my OnePlus 3 ?
I've searched accross xda but I found nothing, sorry if this has already been answered.
In the beginning I found it very useful, but once I removed Google Keyboard, I was not able to enter that password.
I want to use a modded google keyboard (with number row), and on the xda thread, the dev ask to remove the defaut Google Keyboard.
Regards.
Go into Settings > Security & fingerprint > Screen lock and remove it (choose None).
Once the device is set to none, go back into Settings >Security & fingerprint > Screen lock and choose PIN. It will ask you here if you want secure boot (enter a PIN to start device) or not use it. Just choose the latter.
EDIT: If you have fingerprint set up, you will lose it during this process
Another option is to just switch between password, pin or pattern. You still get the option of not to set on boot, but this prevents the fingerprints to get deleted as they do when switching to swipe or none.
Thanks guys the problem is now solved, I've selected PIN with NONE as option for boot.
I can't do anything else because would like to remove the google keyboard.
To do so you will need to wipe your /data but its possible through twrp for excample. Simply after hard reset chose not to require password after boot
I'm confused as to why Google Keyboard is required for entering a password. Can't you just set your other keyboard to be the default?

[SOLVED] Encrypted but no need to enter password

Hey guys,
I have always had my op3 encrypted and I've become used to always entering the pin when booting up, accessing twrp etc. but today when I rebooted into twrp I didn't have to enter any pin to use twrp. When booting up the system I didn't have to enter a pin either.
When I check the settings under Security & Fingerprint it looks as in the attached screenshot, I don't have any options to decrypt or anything either
I'm running OOS 4.1.3, FrancoKernel #23 , Magisk 12, twrp-3.1.0-x_blu_spark_v27.
Is this something that anyone has experienced and know how to fix?
I want to keep my encryption but then, of course, you should have to use the pin.
Cheers!
Then the pin is defaulted and thus you don't need any. I don't need one, too and never did, but all is encrypted (Even locked down with a pin on bootup and fingerprint otherwise)
I believe this is an option you need to setup during the wizard when you initially set up the device. It asks you whether you want to require a pin on startup or not.
But, you can also turn this on by going to settings>security>screen lock.
From there, you click on the area where it says PIN. Confirm your pin, then click PIN again, and there should be an option to require pin for startup. Other than that, you are still encrypted, but it is all bypassed in order for quicker startup.

Ah that was it! it had somehow disabled itself, simply going in and enabling "require pin to start device" solved it.
Thanks!
Try removing the lock screen password and setting it up again and it will be back again in twrp.?

Fingerprint unlock

Hi
How do I use fingerprint to unlock my Mi Max 3 please ? I am on the latest global stable.
In Setting > "Lock screen & password" use "Set screen lock" to set a password. Then in "Lock screen & password" use "Manage fingerprints" > "Add fingerprint" and add 1 to 5 fingerprints. After this you should be able to unlock the device with a fingerprint. But don't forget your password, because sometimes you need still it.

Device encryption using lock screen password

Hi,
I have Mi 9 SE with global rom v 10.2.2.0(PFBMIXM).
When I go to system settings->Additional settings->Privacy->Encryption & credentials, it shows that my device is encrypted. But in the past on other xiaomi phones I owned there used to be an option "Encrypt Device with lock screen password" which is missing in MI 9 SE.
So, in the past the phone used to ask for lock screen password during boot and only then then system/data disks would be decrypted and phone would start booting. Now this is not happening because the phone is using whatever device default password it has for decrypting the device during boot up. So I have following questions,
1) Can someone with above version of global rom confirm that they also do not have "Encrypt Device with lock screen password" option?
2) Can we also confirm if China and EEA Roms are also missing these options?
3) Is there any possibility of somehow enabling the "Encrypt Device with lock screen password" because I would really like to use my password for encryption rather than some device default password.
Many thanks in advance for your help
There is no way doing this and it's this way on all ROMs.
