So, I recently bought a secondhand Google Pixel XL 1st gen. I am using it as a secondary device to manage some Instagram pages I have and to use the camera to take ever so amazing pictures with the best camera on the market (blanket statement covering the Pixel 2 and 3 as well).
Anyways, I've had the phone for about a month and recently the SIM card slot stopped reading SIM cards. No water damage and I have no dropped the phone at all. The phone has actually sat longer than I have used it, as my daily driver is a Note 8. Sometimes, before now, I was switching back and forth between the Pixel and my Note 8. Everything was fine for awhile...
At first I was thinking that Verizon had somehow noticed that I was switching phones on their Network, but then I thought logically about that and considered that Verizon doesn't really care because I'm paying them either way and last time I checked, there isn't a known software check to make sure a SIM is being used on the phone it was purchased with.
Now I'm thinking that it is either the Android Pie update or maybe a security update - currently it's the February 5th installment. Not really sure either way and it's frustrating me on a daily basis and I am not really sure what to do or how to further troubleshoot the issue. Again, no water and drop damage interference since owning the device and the SIM card slot was working up until about 3 weeks ago roughly.
Update: Successfully rolled back to the Jan 5th security patch and nothing changed. Phone still is not reading the SIM. Although, last night before doing so, I popped in my Verizon SIM from my Note 8 and the phone showed the mobile network icon in the status bar for a split second and then it disappeared basically as fast as it showed its face. I'm thinking the phone can read SIMs still, but the tray is screwed up somehow. 19 views and somehow no response...

Hi everyone,
I am having a little issue. I recently updated to KK and jut didnt like how it preformed. I .toted back to ZV7 to start fresh, this is when I noticed I had a sim card in my statusbar with a little X on it. Then I noticed that I had no LTE. I can't figure out if I did something wrong or what.
I had one of my developer friends walk me through a few things that he had to do on the G Flex, which was toting 5 or more time till that sim card was recognized, well mine still doesnt work. heck I even went into Sprint to have them check it out, and all they did was replace and scan in a new LTE card.
Could me Sim slot be turned off? or could it be fried?
I have had this issue sort of
i have had the lg g2 on sprint for about two months and i occasionally get a similar issue except it just says that there is no sim card inserted however my LTE is completely un hindered. and it would normaly correct its self after a couple reboots. is your device damaged in anyway and how long have you had the device,
It corrected itself over multi reboots. several days worth of reboots. The phone is now ongoing its 3rd week in immaculate condition. and its been babied, so no damage whatsoever.
Got my 16GB Ice Nexus 5x today. Took my att nano sim out of my nexus 6 and put it in 5x. Phone said no sim detected. Tried about 20 more times taking it out putting back in, nothing. Tried my old tmobile sim, nothing. Went to att store got a brand new nano. Still nothing. Working on getting it replaced now. Wont detect anyyyyyy sim. ugggggg
Maybe you your 5x needs to be added to their database? Not sure but I had a similar issue with my N5 with Sprint when they first released and bought direct from Google

A friend posted that he needs to buy a new SIM for his 5X because the SIM from his N6 is the same size but electronically different. (His is a Project Fi SIM if that matters.)
I'm skeptical about that but it seems clear that you are also having an issue using the SIM from an N6. I'm wondering if the SIM from my N5 is going to work.
this made me cut my att sim a few minutes ago from my N5. The cutter worked fine. http://tinyurl.com/o39so98
tested in N5X and worked fine, H to LTE hand off was about the same as N5, I was worried about that, but it's all good.
I put it back into the N5. But I had to use the old surround from att sim instead of the adapter that comes with that cutter.
There's a small difference, and for sure you can definitely f this up if not careful.
My Ting/GSM (The carrier who must not be named is T-Mobile ) Sim worked without difficulty. It was die cut for the smaller size. I kept the part I popped it out of just in case.
It took a surprisingly long time to get on the network. I kept checking and it showed no phone number for what seemed like a long time. I started looking into the Ting web pages and started to run through the process of activating a phone, thinking I needed to do that. At that point when I went to the settings to get the IMEI I saw that it had the phone number and calling was working. It was probably over an hour.
i have this problem too actually. After trying maybe 10 times it worked, but it would keep saying no sim card, and it would IMMEDIATELY work on my MXPE. That being said, i probably need a new sim card. A coworkers SIM card worked without issue.
Just posting in case it becomes a "thing" with the Pixel 2 XL.
Last night I noticed that my stock, locked Pixel 2 XL which I had ordered as soon as available way back in October had spontaneously rebooted. I picked it up to see what happened......and it was not detecting a SIM card. It also would try to detect Wifi networks, but would never find any, then Wifi would turn off. I swapped out my SIM card with my husband's, and my SIM worked in his phone but his did not work in mine. Tried resetting network settings, didn't work, tried factory reset, didn't work, tried clean flash of latest Pie, didn't work.
Some weird stuff.....I can get into settings, but come critical info missing......like MAC address, IMEI, etc. So I think the transmitter/receiver is just dead.
Doing a warranty exchange.....Hope I get a new phone as opposed to a refurb, but we'll see.
I had gone online and noticed one post in Google Product Forums describing a similar problem on a new phone someone received, but this doesn't seem to be a pattern.....yet.
Again.....just want people to be aware. Back to my Nexus 5 for a few days.
And my replacement is shipping from Ingram Micro in Carol Stream, IL. Should be here Friday. Anyone know if this is an indication of a new phone vs. refurb?
Batteries on the two Nexus 5's I have in my possession are rather shot. Need constant charging.
Received my replacement. Manufacture date January 30, 2018. Security update version May 5, 2018. Came in flat box in Google packaging (no accessories). Hardware version 10 (same as old phone). Phone appears to be perfect, no problems (so far).
Hello, I have the regular 7t model 128GB HD1905 and randomly, my phone will drop all connections. This is the 2nd occurrence of this issue, and I managed to grab a screen cap of it.
I don't know what causes it, as it happens randomly. 1st time I was on break at work, 2nd time I was visiting family for the holidays.
As you can see from the video, the SIM card is acting like it randomly disconnects/reconnects rapidly. Throwing it in and out of Airplane mode doesn't help, rebooting doesn't help; the only solution was taking out the SIM card, blowing inside the tray, and reinserting it.
The 2nd time it happened, I didn't have a SIM card ejector tool, but it seemed like it randomly went away.
I've had this unit replaced last week as it had a green tint defect, but my previous unit experienced this bug also.
I don't think it's an issue with the SIM card, as my OnePlus 6 reads my SIM card just fine for the previous year that I've used it.

So I have a HD1925 otherwise known as the 5G McLaren. I had connectivity issues immediately with my first phone and I found that my mms wouldn't work, neither would voice calls if my carrier signal dropped at my house and I was connected to my wifi. So my new phone arrived, and voice calls will work on this phone but still no mms unless I'm connected to a carrier while on wifi. Don't have this issue work my regular 7pro. Neither does the rest of my family with iPhones. Haven't figured out yet what is wrong. Will update I've I find an answer.
I had to return the 6T because my LTE would disconnect/reconnect all day long. Now I have a 7T 1905 and had my first occurrence of this today in about 10 days. I'm REALLY hoping it was just a 1 time thing, or at least a very occasional thing. I'm on T-Mobile in the USA.
I updated my pixel to A13 last week and on restart was prompted to enter my sim lock pin, all seemed well but it wasn't. Somehow, my sim stopped working although my phone recognises it. Could it be the update broke my sim or is it just coincidence?

If you've tried the SIM Card in another phone & it's still not working, my guess is that it's a coincidence.
I'd reach out to your service provider for a new SIM Card, especially if the one you're using is more than a year old, it may not be able to fully take advantage of any/all of the newer/5G Bands on your network.
I know that this is recommended for T-Mobile US.

I did try my sim in my old Samsung S7 and it didn't work. It just seemed strange that it broke after updating my phone but yes, it most probably is a coincidence

FWIW, I've run several betas of 12 & pre & post stable 13,including stable 13 & haven't had any connectivity issues. The SIM is new, used the one that came with the phone.
Since it's not working on another device, I'd chalk it up to pure coincidence.
Before responding, I did a bit of Google-Fu, as I'm sure you did as well & didn't see anything pointing to the update causing the problem.
Now, wireless charging, especially with Google's 2nd Gen charger, that's another story.......
