How to get workout updates on Samsung Galaxy Watch? - Samsung Galaxy Watch

I want to be able to see my progress of a run or walk on my galaxy watch if I start the workout on my phone. I don't want to keep taking my phone out to check my speed, or distance etc. I prefer using the phone to start workout since it would use the phone's GPS instead of the watch, which will save the battery on the watch. Also if I start a workout on the phone, the watch doesn't log and sync the heart rate to that workout session. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks!

What you are asking is not, as far as I know, possible. The whole point of the watch is to track everything about the workout. If you start a workout from the phone you are basically telling the app not to use the watch at all and track everything via the phone.

Does anyone know how to turn off fitness apps?

Hello Everyone,
I have no need for or desire to use any of the fitness features of the 360, such as the heart monitor or Fit. I always see the little heart rate monitor firing up and I see this as a good way of saving battery since I dont use it. Does anyone know how to turn off, or uninstall these? Thanks!
Great question.
please let us know if you find out
I haven't done it myself, but if you're rooted you can try disabling them via adb.

If you look at the back of your watch, you will still see the green sensor in use.

Ahh. I thought you were talking alerts on watch, sorry. I hope turning it off completely comes in the next update. :fingers-crossed:

In the android wear app, select FIT for countsteps and show heart rate, then on watch select FIT and slide through to its options. do show step card OFF, daily goal NONE, and save fitness data off.
currently thats the only way i know how
It still doesn't work - mine keeps showing me the daily goal, almost hourly.

Standalone fitness app?

Just got my first smartwatch, the 360, yesterday.
Is there an app for tracking running/cycling without having to carry your phone around?
The Google Fit is very basic and gets calories very wrong when it comes to cycling. And Endmondo doesn't support standalone tracking for the 360 (would that becaome available with 5.1.1?). There are loads of apps in store but I can't install and check them all, anyone know of any?
Thank you

This one just takes HR every so often in "work out" mode, the only option on the watch.
I may be asking too much. Maybe with 5.1.1 update we'll see more (some) standalone running apps.
The watch has no GPS, and not the right kind of sensors to determine a distance traveled. All you would get out of an app on a watch is time and heartrate sensor recording.
Smartwatches are not powerful, they work by offloading anything they can to the phone.
I use RunKeeper for my runs and have my phone with me. Since the Moto 360 does not have GPS no GPS app will work on the watch without a phone.
For a stand alone app I have found that UP by Jawbone does a good job tracking activity. If I walk inside at lunch time it will notice I was active and ask if I did an activity and then will calculate the steps into what that activity was. It has like 20 different activities including cycling. I have found that the step count comes pretty close to calculating the correct distance for running or walking, but will not be as accurate as GPS.
Here is the thread on how to link your watch to UP!

Some newbie questions

Hi All,
Great forum, used it a lot with several devices.
So, I just got my Huawei watch and it is great!!
I do have some questions and tips that it will be great if you could help me with and I couldn't find answers to (sorry if its too long...)
1. Charging - what is the best way to charge it in order keep the battery life? like everyday few mins? everyday to full charge? let it drop until X%?
2. Always on option - is there an option to make it sleep at night? like I like this option very much, but as I don't sleep with it, I think it is better that the screen will be off at night.
in addition, do it harm the screen if always on working all the time?
3. Reset - do you reset the devise occasionally? like in purpose. I mean, on my Samsung S6 i know that once in a while I need to reset it to get a better performance.
3. Steps tracking - I was with the blue moon face and noticed that the steps showed is updated after few seconds, meaning that let's say I walked 50 steps, I stop, look at the watch, see the old steps count and after 2-3 seconds it is "jumped" and updated to the new count. in addition, if I stop, wait this few seconds and look at the watch, the count is ok - is this normal?
4. fitness app - which app to use with it that will sync the best with my phone? I installed Google fit and its not doing the job good. it looks like it count steps from the phone and not the watch, or mixed it together, In addition the distance and calories count is way not true, like it show the distance far low then the true (I updated my height and weight, over the app and on the watch) and the calories far more then it is.
In addition I installed the Huawei wear app and it looks much more accurate, showing the steps as the watch, and separate it to walking and steps, distance is accurate and calories as well. but the app doesn't look so good and looks like it missed a lot of other option.
In addition, I don't understand why the Huawei app on the watch is not showing distance but just steps count.
So, which app do you use? I basically want a nice app that will show my daily usage and if can, that will sync with the heart rate measure that i can take from time to time.
Can I sync it to S-Health that I have? or please recommend for another app.
5. Is there any nice watch face that shows not only the steps count but the distance as well?
6. Any other general recommendations?
I think that's it for now
Thank you very much for your help.

Although the screen should not be harmed if always on is working all the time, at night you can use theater mode to turn your screen off without powering down the watch. The easiest method of going into theater mode is by quickly double pressing the button on the watch. You can also go into the pulldown menu from the main watchface and swipe over to theater mode to do the same thing. This can save some watch battery if you have the watch off the charger all night or if the battery is getting low during the day and you want to squeeze a few more hours out. It is meant for if you're in the movies and don't want the light from the watch screen to distract you or others from the movie. To exit theater mode and turn the screen back on, just single press the button on the watch.
Btw your post may be removed since we aren't supposed to post questions here in the general forum. There is a Q&A forum however where any questions can be asked about the Huawei watch. http://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-watch/general/notice-post-questions-t3367506/page1
Enjoy your watch!

From my experience, it is ok to factory reset your device once every two months or when you feel it has become quite sluggish although you mustn't expect the performance results to be visible right away after the reset. After the reset, all the applications from your phone will be resynced and the Google Play Services will begin to re-download its updates thus resulting in bad battery life and perfomance for that day until it settles down.
Great.
Thanks for helping.
I always charge the watch to 100% and wait until it goes below 10% to charge it.
When I take the watch off my hand I also shut it down and power it on again when I put it on. This gives me about 3 days of using the watch without charging.

If you put your watch on a desk the display will completely turn off after about 10 minutes, even if you chose always on.
If there is no movement detected for a certain period of time, the display will switch off. This can sometimes also happen if you are in a very steady position. My watch turns occasionally off while I'm playing Playstation and holding the controller in the same position.

I noticed that but as inconsistent.
Sometimes it did it exactly as you describe and sometime not. left it on the desk, half an hour and still always on worked.
I don't know the exact algorithm behind it, but I'm pretty confident that the display will switch off sooner or later. I always put my watch on my desk at night and every morning the display is pitch black.

New watch, lots of questions

I got a Huawei Watch for Christmas, and have a few questions about it:
1) Notification sounds - it doesn't make any, should it? Is "Feel the Wear" the only way to do it? Surely it should be native?
2) Google Fit is wildly inaccurate on the step count, it always shows way more than it should. But most watch faces seem to use this data source rather than the actual data from the watch. How do I correct this?
3) I installed the Huawei Wear app (which records the steps accurately but smashes my phone battery due to tons of wakelocks!). This app suggests that it does sleep tracking, but it doesn't work. I had a Fitbit Charge HR which does it automatically, is it meant to be automatic on this watch or do I have to switch it on? If so, how do I do that?
Thanks!

Galaxy Watch as fitness tracker

Hello guys, anyone using the watch at gym?
I'm searching for a way how it should be useful for workout.
Today I did 24 different exercises at the gym but none was recorded.
How it should be used as a fitness tracker?
Finally any application for tracking the stats? Samsung health is pretty weak at this.

Only around 6 exercises are automatically tracked and you have e to switch on that tracking as it is not enabled by default.
You have to manually record your gym sessions I'm afraid.

Oh I see, so there's no automation for the exercises. And it's pretty hard to switch them on when you're on 1 minute exercise and no rest between all of them.
The watch looks nice but is very bad for sports tracking. I play soccer and there is no track for that with this watch. I tried with "other workout" option but is very inaccurate

You can Try Map My run - but best is gear tracker ( has corrections) - app like polar.
I just use mine at the gym to track my heart rate so using the "other workout" to track it is fine. Everything else seems to be redundant.
Does anyone know how to change the number of reps for the exercises? I think it's set at 10 reps by default?
The us an option for circuit training and it will give continuous reading

I'm curious as I do weight training also, I tried using 'Other workout' and "weight machine' but I find that it's continually adding calories burnt whilst in between sets (1 min rest). Has anyone found the best way to track weight training without having to pause/resume the workout?
Have a look at the STRAVA app for the galaxy watch, this app brings more possible workout scenarios to the watch.
Try GymRun. It allows you to configure your workout with sets, reps as well as rest periods on your phone, and then you can sync with watch. Excercises will appear in the same order on your phone, and rest timer will begin automatically as soon as you press on "set completed" button. You will also be able to change how many reps/sets/pounds you did directly from the watch (you get to enter estimations on your phone). It costs 5 USD but worth the money in my opinion (Beware to not but the premuim version on mobile because that is a completly different thing). If you want something that would count the reps for you, you can use the embeded app for that, but like others said you have to start it manualy each time.
