Not for me...
Strange, mine comes up Sleeping Apps
Settings > Device care > Battery > Top right 3 dots menu > Settings > Sleeping apps
So it's not streamlined, they have just buried 2 steps in, why not leave it where it was ?
Telemetry probably showed them the majority of people do not venture into that setting, so to remove clutter from the main settings panel they tucked it away where only people like us will go looking for it
Thanks a lot i found it
Just type sleeping
Cool idea, but doesn't stop app from sleeping when all of turned off except for notifications, even though it shows, background battery usage cant be restricted. And option to turn off is greyed out. After turning off screen music stops always playing after a couple of minutes. Never happened before Android 9, wish I could update (sometimes known as downdating? ) but really it's updating that breaks functions lol

Edit2:
Backup your device as soon as possible
When you update your os or change your rom you usually get a smoother experience with it after a factory reset.
My device setup:
turn off fast reboot
disable all stupid sounds and vibrations
disable all the developer settings except for the usb-debugging unless you are a developer (make sure you tick and untick the above mentioned "Don't keep activities")
disable 3 finger gesture
and for a new device or a new rom (update etc.):
Several reboot
are always good lol

I noticed a very brief pause while it seemed to reload apps but in the same position (like a specific area of a menu) and it really bugged me considering the hardware. I just gave what you suggested a try and it seems (key word there being seems) to have stopped this. I turned the setting on, went home and oh man that was painfully slow so then I turned it back off. It's almost as if the setting was half way between the two settings, maybe a hybrid setting. I'll keep an eye on this though in case it was just a placebo effect.
@3x13 good tip.
I actually just tried out the feature to see how the phone performed with it on, and thus found the solution myself...by random chance, but it makes a big diff.

If you have updated you unfortunately should do a factory reset. Do a backup through adb first and play your applications back after.

Thanks for the tips bro
So if i get this correctly i have to tick "don't keep activities" go back to the home screen and then go back to "don't keep activities" and re-check it?
I think this is the correct way of doing it because if u keep it ticked then Sense always re-loads when u go on the home screen right?
Thanks again
Everytime I check 'don't keep activities' when pressing the home button it takes ages to load the home screen.
I have also got ticked no background processes, what does that actually do? Thought it would of been similar to don't keep activities

Correct, you tick it and then untick it. Not spectacular to do but the effects are brilliant.

At first I thought I was the only one suffering from this annoyance, but then I saw this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgvTFu6UKJI
See, the problem is that whenever I send or receive a message, this icon pops up. At first I thought I was delusional, but then it repeatedly became clear that this was truly a bug. I managed to get a screenshot of it (which was really difficult considering that it only pops up for about half a second). I want to know if I anyone else has had this issue, and whether or not someone found a workaround from it popping up. Anyone at all?
Are you using Hangouts?
Nope! Stock everything, and unrooted. Using the HTC messaging app

This bothered me as well, but I have since gotten rid of it. Granted that you're rooted, you can download an Xposed module called NotifyClean. It listens for "notifications" in the status bar, and you have the option to disable them. Download/install/activate the module, turn on the listening feature, and send a message. When you go back into NotifyClean, you'll see "Data Usage". Select that, then select "Data usage is running". It should highlight the selection in red, and ultimately get rid of the little annoying icon that shows up for a split second.
It seems that I'm not the only one having an issue. Well hopefully there's a better work around for this because I don't plan rooting my phone for a long time! Flashing roms and tweaks could be addicting haha! Hopefully someone finds a better fix to hide this annoying notification!

Yeah, take it from someone that flashed a ROM today and every mod/tweak I could find... it gets addicting. I spent 8 hours at my computer today going over various mods and personalizing my phone. Unfortunately, I can't think of anything to help with your issue that doesn't involve root. If you know what is causing the notification then you may be able to go into settings>apps>all and disable the offender?

I managed to get a screenshot, and I checked what app was causing it but it was a system app called "Data Usage". Anyone know how to turn off data usage notifications? Turning off data usage alert doesn't help
This is normal behavior. While it shouldn't be popping up, its normal as in that it is what is done when a SMS/MMS is sent while on WiFi.
You can locate the app through Application Manager and tap it to Disable Notifications. This doesnt require root or anything.
Taking shots in the dark here, but there is a data usage section under wireless & networks in settings. In that menu there is a toggle for 'alert me about data usage'. You can then drag a slider up and down to set the cap for when your phone warns you about data usage. Maybe yours is dragged to the very bottom so it alerts you about any data usage?
Unlikely because it would show up during everything, but worth asking. Maybe just disabling the notification toggle would work. Also, does your carrier ship with specific software to monitor data usage? If so then check all of those apps settings to see if anything has any effect.
It doesn't matter whether or not the wifi is on, it still annoyingly pops up. I meant that you really can't disable notifications as it is a system app

I read its some type of traffic usage. Someone here posted a picture of it here. Also I have an option on the ROM I'm running to hide that notification. O don't think its carrier IQ but then again.
Hi, I have something puzzling me and I think the community will be able to help me. I've been on CyanogenMod for the longest time before buying my N5X and one of the features I miss the most is the profiles settings.
My problem is I want to disable my lockscreen automatically when connected to my car Bluetooth. To be clear, I want it gone completely, not just the security, as in when I press the power button I go straight to Play Music. I have Trigger installed but can't seem to find a way to do this. I'm also willing to buy Tasker if I'm sure it will allow me to do it.
I'm rooted and running Cataclysm ROM if it helps.
Delete your car Bluetooth and re-connect it. It should prompt you to set up a Trusted Devoice. This will disable the lockscreen while connected to this device.

I use fingerprint scanner and it goes straight to home screen.

Now I'm starting to think you're just trolling. First suggestion is far from automatic, second one is not an option, the phone is in a car mount.
Again, I'm looking for a software way to do it.

Then leave screen on for the maximum time, so you won't have to deal with lock screens, until there is an app that would do it for you.

Not trolling, it would do exactly what you asked, lock screen completely gone not having to swipe up. You never mentioned it was in a mount, are you charging it at all in this mount? If so, use the keep awake option in developer settings.

Maybe you're not trolling, but you're ignoring parts of my posts to find a half-assed way to make it work. I guess you missed the "automatically" part.
And no, not charging. I don't stare at my phone for 8 hours a day so I don't need to charge while driving. And please, if you're not gonna help don't post.

I love my new Pixel 2 XL but despite my best efforts to identify what app or system service was sending repeated (and annoying) default notification sounds but not showing any other message or indication, I finally hit on a solution that seems to work.
SET THE DEFAULT NOTIFICATION SOUND TO "NONE"
settings>sound>advanced>default notification sound
Then set the notification sounds to whatever you want for each app you actually care to hear from.

I have noticed this as well.
<notification sound> no new text or email...
For me, it's just easier to ignore the errant tone once in a while than to set notifications for individual apps (cause I'm totally lazy like that).
But THAT is the beauty of Android... to each their own and there are always multiple ways to skin that cat
Use a notification log
I had this same issue. Turned out to be an app I had disabled pop ups for.
I have a (potentially) better solution. Add a notification log widget to find the culprit:
1. Long press on home screen and go to widgets.
2. Drag the settings widget to the home screen.
3. In the list of options, choose Notifications
Now you can see a log of your notifications. Next time you get the sound but no pop up, go into the log and find the offender at the top of the list.
For me it was a game I didn't need so I deleted it, but you can remedy the problem as you see fit.

Glad you found it! Sorry I just saw this. I forget where I learned about this, but it wasn't easy to find. I'm glad I could pass it on to someone else, I'm sure it could be plenty useful.
I'm having the same issue but it's not even showing in the notification log. Makes me want to throw it out the window to be honest. There's time where it will go off every 30 seconds. Off to reset I guess and see if that works.

Still no idea why it does it, just a temp bandaid to curb the annoyance. I notice a slightly higher battery drain too, tells me something is running

Sounds like a re-install is in order...if you have an unlocked bootloader, when was the last time you've done an update via Full Factory image? I'd imagine all that might be sorted out by reinstall/updating; with the "-w" removed of course...
I hope you consider it, and I hope this helps...
Hi everybody,
I'm running the Android 11 public beta and to be honest I've been doing so pretty much since I bought the 3a XL, so I can't remember if this was an issue beforehand. I am having absolutely no issues elsewhere.
Basically when a text, WhatsApp, Gmail or anything like that comes through I get the sound but the screen doesn't light up.
I don't have AoD activated (can't stand using them) but I do have the toggle for lighting up for new notifications activated. I have no power saving modes or do not disturb settings switched on and all notification settings for my apps seem to be fine. I don't want to reset my phone and start all over again as I really can't be bothered just for this one thing, and it would also use up my last slot with YouTube Premium so I'd have to call them to clear my device list again.
Please can someone think what might be happening here. Is this a bug with 11? Or can anyone think of anything else to try.
Many thanks
Maybe check lockscreen settings and see if you're not allowing the notifications there.

Show all notifications etc are on. When I tap the screen the notification is there so it's not hiding it or anything - it just doesn't light the screen up.
Double check all settings in Display > Lock screen display. I think all the action is there. I'm sorry if this is menial or redundant. Just offering up ideas, it could be a bug but I can't verify it since I'm not on 11.

Yeah sadly I've been through all the settings and I really can't find anything that would be causing this. I thought maybe it could even be a faulty proximity sensor or something but that's working fine too.
I was hoping that it was a known bug because then at least I know it'll get fixed, although this issue has survived the most recent beta update.

Here's a screenshot of my settings, not sure how much will match with yours but I can't imagine much difference. Either way I get notifications the way you want with these settings. If you don't you might file a bug report.

It's happening on my phone also. Maybe a bug in Android 11
