why don't the admins clean up the useless links on the custom roms page? specifically for qualcomm. Sorry, but its BS that there are all those dead links there -- getting your hopes up for nothing.

Because the OP still owns the thread and some of the material contained in posts may be beneficial to some readers. XDA admins do not have the time or resources to moderate/QC every thread. Don't like something? Report it!

Hey folks,
I've become increasingly concerned with the mods of our forum.
Two kernel projects have been stickied while the americanandroid 35 kernel thread is not nor has tytungs kernel. One of the currently stickied is even essentially a branch of the 35 project that marc1706 (good buddy) began expanding.
As for another issue, the stickied list of roms / kernels thread etc has never included AmeriCanAndroid even weeks after it was brought to the OPs attention. We feel that ignoring our request to be included on the list has partially steered away potential users.
If a mod can rectify these issues it would be awesome.

A pm to forum mods and if required senior mod would have been more appropriate i guess, but since the thread is here now, i guess yeah, the sticky threads should be revised before being accepted as sticky ? or some form of public vote instead of sole admin/mod decision ?

Or perhaps a kernel subforum with no stickies? Only reason I didn't pm a mod is because I'm on my phone so I can't get to the mod list....that and because I'm pretty sure at some point a mod saw two posts by me asking for this fair treatment in a couple of these threads as did the OP of the roms /kernel list as I was responded to by that OP without rectifying the issue.

I remember when a person from your team totally raged at me because your rom wasn't added to my compilation thread.. I had clearly written that people could PM me if they wanted their roms in my list..
Now this ? If you want your kernel stickied, PM a moderator. We can't expect everything to just happen, we must participate ourselves.
+ remember, there are 40+ roms and many kernels out there, so a mod could have easily have missed seeing your kernel thread.
btw, this should be in Q&A
btw 2. tytungs kernel has been stickied.. and it is included in most of the roms.. so if people wants it, it shouldn't be so hard to find it.
Edit:
My compilation thread is stickied, so if people are looking for kernels, they can find yours in my thread

It was me yz, and I didn't rage I more like pointed it out and also made the point that the list seemed a bit redundant considering the nature of the forum thread lists already in existence.
I do appreciate the response.
Thanks

Didn't see your thread in 1. / 2. page.. that's why I didn't include it. Sending a PM to me wouldn't be that hard.
i just think that mods are uninformed...

Dear yz.hd, the mods are humans and can fail, but this is unfair, as was Warren starting development with the new kernel base wich is a success now, and tytungs kernel were always a big support of a huge quantity of roms, so would be good to see the work of this 2 fellas sticked too, I remember that this was already mentioned awhile back..
Its not a critic, we appreciate all the work that you guys do for us, its only a point out to improve our forums, and we now that they are huge, so is a big task, but kernel development is very important for hd2 development..

well, I would rather want none of the kernels to be stickied then.. A lot of good kernels out there. If people wants to install a kernel, they can search.. or check the compilation thread.
Would be unfair (as it is now) if a kernel gets stickied, an one doesn't.. (I understand you)
BUT warrenb haven't PM'ed a mod. We can't expect the mods to read all the post that are being posted. That would just be wrong.
I'm going to be controversial here and say that the mods are fully aware that certain kernels are being stickied. In fact, NRGZ has stickied the SBryan Kernel even though it was queried as to why that should be stickied as important and others such as Marc's/Warrens and Tytungs hasn't.
This is always bound to happen when you sticky certain things and not others. My personal view is that these should be in a wrap up thread like what yz.hd has created and not stickied, else you clog up the 1st page with sticky's.
This is not a slight on NRGZ as this guy is a legend in the HD2 world but this sort of argument is a consequence of poor management.
Mods please take note and give all the devs equal respect for their work.
I'll look into this. Closing the thread off. Any further issues on this should be done in PM.
There are a few things posted so far that are cross compliant. Take a look!
H850 Development
Wrong place to post this
Actually it makes sense since he is directing us to roms which is development .

Oh I didn't know you could link to other people's work on a development only section. I must have read the posting rules for this section incorrectly
What ROMS are you talking about? There is the Fluence patch.... but thats it....
I must be missing something. Thoughts anyone?

Yes, you are missing xposed fw
Google search xda xposed then download the arm 64 zip. Follow the instructions listed on the thread.

Yeah, I figured that out shortly after posting. Thanks for the assist either way
Ok children knock it off.
I found it very useful as I'm considering a purchase of at mobile edition G5 vs the Axon 7 which as of now has less development on it. To me, speed and memory are pluses of that model while camera and extendability with the friends are the bonuses on this front. It does show the H850 and H830 share similar Roms for several that matter using AOSP type builds of 7.1+ Nougat. Otherwise, without that development, I'd likely get that other phone for the extra $$ and faster processor.
If anyone is flashing ROMs please keep the discussion on the current rom. I could have posted this in a specific rom thread but it is everywhere. No Dev wants to hear oh this rom is better or try out this rom. If you want the devs to stay donate to them and try to encourage and help the devs instead of saying how bad the rom is. This is one if not the worst thread I've ever seen. Moderators virtually don't exist this can be archived or whatever once people see and realize that they can't be trashing devs.

Apparently you don't entirely get how this place works. Nor appreciate that there are 10s of thousands of threads with 100s of thousands of posts in many hundreds of Fora. And >8m members of all shapes and sizes.
When was the last time you raised a report? Like the post you commented on because it wasn't in English recently... we review every ACTIVE forum very regularly, but also expect members to report issues so they can be dealt with, one way or another. I personally clean literally hundreds of threads of dross routinely.
I understand your frustration, but unless you and others make a little effort to report genuine issues...
How is this thread directly related to the Moto G5 Plus? - It isn't, so thread closed.
so today i posted a rom i found on a site and it was taken down. im just wondering how we are supposed to let others know what we find without breaking the rules. this device seems like its development is dead if you look on here on XDA but if you check the rom builder site they have builds that i am sure people would like to know about.
what would be the best way to share the information without getting the post removed?
thanks you in advance for the constructive feedback

Also curious about this. I saw the dirty unicorns thread was closed and was wondering why. My three other phones have dirty unicorn roms available on xda. If anyone can shed light as to why that would be awesome.
well im not the dev who built it and never tried to take credit for the build but it was taken down. i assume it was due to me posting a link to the official site for the build. i would love to help update others to let them know what i have found around the web, but i also want to do it correctly.
DU official builds cannot be posted on XDA per owner's request. Dirty Unicorns requests XDA doesn't make ROM or development threads for official devices.
ok, can we list it in an index without a link?

I wouldn't know. Its always best to contact the ROM developer. They haven't made a thread for a reason. That is what I did with AOSiP. I contacted the dev, made a mock up thread and once he approved how it was worded, posted it.
Perfect I will do that first then.
If I post about my problem in a device forum then I'll only get the audience for that device. Some devices only have a few hundred users. This makes xda kinda useless.
But xda is obviously far from useless.
What am i missing? Tags?
Is it that xdadevs tend to stick to very popular devices only?
IMHO, many devices are similar when running the same version of Android. Is it worth having separate forums?
Welcome to XDA @DontReuseUsernames!
It really depends on the information you are looking for. Questions can be very device specific, ie "Why doesn't my camera work?" to being generally applicable to Android "How do I do X with Google Camera App", and for each of these there are different forums to post in.
If all else fails, you can always post to the "General" forum, which is anything else: https://forum.xda-developers.com/f/general.256/
Thanks.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/c/xda-community-apps.3092/ is a useful new category I wasn't aware of.
Perhaps the problem could be improved by making it so that when you subscribe to one forum, you are automatically offered some related tags to subscribe to as well.

Hi, there is a thread at the very top of the about: xda-developers.com section that explains how xda works. If you have ANY questions that are Android related, you can post in Questions and Answers or Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting.
But again, everything is here: XDA New User Guide
Oh and, I also say hello to newcomers (originally iPhone newcomers) in this Post: Hello
Thank you. I'm always grateful. But I also need to tell it how it is and be honest about those beginners links.
Wow! What a mess. Broken image links. A link to a flash file. A 9 year old thread. Links to another thread that 'has been cleaned' and has only one reply ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/new-members-guide-tour-get-the-most-out-of-xda.1282679/ ) Again, more broken links there.
. Not a single mention of
XDA Community Apps
Download Android apps that come from XDA developers and members
forum.xda-developers.com
at either of the links that I've found so far.
Nothing addressing the issue of device fragmentation. Fragmented forums effect even the popular devices. It's just less obvious.
What needs doing is for us to re-index threads by keyword and make a new site linking through to helpful threads. I may well do this myself, depending on how much time I get off over the next holiday and how much I need the info myself. If I get some time to do it I'll update with a link here.
