Is this possible? I'm not that familiar yet on this technology.
The device hardware is not capble of handing 3G speeds
just wanna set things straight... hmmm... so does dis mean we can use the technology but not that fast right?
Yes and no.
Better would be
"dis mean we can use the technology but not on dis phone"
Think the universal is a 3g phone the BA is not.
damn.. that's sad to hear. thanks anyway guys.
Look at this video:

You can clearly see that, as the guy keeps the hand off the back of the phone, the wifi signal boosts up from zero to 3 bars.
In all the review as well, you can notice that as the reviewer grips the device, the wifi signal goes bad.
Damn it, again, as the Galaxy S2, wifi grip issue.
Thank you Samsung, Aloha Nexus.
There are very few phones that don't do this. To antennas used to be at the top of the device away from your hand, but ever since someone decided phones give you cancer they moved the antennas to the bottom.
I'd rather have cancer and actually get reception.
If we stopped this form over function nonsense the manufacturers could put proper antennas on phones like they used to have. Then this sort of thing wouldn't be a problem.
You don't use wifi when you brings your phone near your head c'mon...
Wifi connection is used when you use web end emails...
A lot of people had complained about GS2 wifi issue and Samsung did nothing in this Nexus, this seems to be the thuth.

You're right.
But are you telling me Samsung is the only company that fights for our health?I've used iPhone 4, Nokia, SE Xperia Arc, and Lg Optimus instead want to kill us? None of those had wifi grips issues.
C'mon. It's simply a wifi issue as it was for the GS2.

People REALLY shouldnt be holding these plutonium slates to there heads.
A simple case should solve this problem. Not an excuse, nor an apology, by any means but since Samsung can't learn from it's mistakes it'll have to do.

With my GS2 I've tried different cases (Casemate, silicon ones etc.) but this solved very very little the wifi issue.
It's sad because at work I need wifi as hell, and I was the only one among my colleagues (TBH another one with a HTC Sensation has similar problem using it landscape mode) that has no wifi signal.
Cannot spend 500£ to have such a poor wifi

Yes, actually. Phones have antennas they use for WiFi, 3G, 2G, etc.. Covering antennas lowers their ability to transmit and receive. So nearly all phones will have this issue. Crazy idea... Where do you propose they put the antennas so that they transmit properly? do you want pull-out or rubber antennas again?

News at 11! back in 1945.
Man this is going to suck. I don't know if I can deal with this. This might put me over the top.
None of my phones ever had this. I travel alot and I'm giving up one of my phones (always had a Verizon blackberry and some GSM Smartphone) but I can't go solo with a phone with spotty wifi.
LG G2x - 2.3.7 CM7

I doubt its that bad....like wifi isn't going to comletley die when you grip the thing, you'll just loose a bar or 2.

just picked up my galaxy nexus today and i've noticed that the wifi/cellular reception is much worse than my old iphone. sometimes the wifi will even cut out entirely when my iphone still has 2/3 bars of wifi.
my phone is currently running 4.0.1 on XXKK1 with build ITL41F. i've already rooted/unlocked/installed CWM recovery on it.
will upgrading to newer firmwares, kernels, or radios improve my reception? if so, which ones do you recommend?
thanks!
sadly the antenna on this phone is pretty weak. ive tried out all sorts of rom/radio/kernal configurations and nothing really helped. lots of people say there's nothing wrong with it but they are fortunate enough to live in areas where there's strong signal broadcasts. for us that don't live in such areas it sucks. i've found at least that removing the battery door and using a paper clip/insulated wire, you can help the reception slightly. ofcourse it's not a pretty sight.
It is a known...or...beginning to be a well known issue bro. The only thing to want to worry about is..whether this is a software or hardware related problem...I am on my THIRD ONE.
Same issue. Sad times in the nexus world bro

AOKP rom, Franco's Kernel, kk6 radio. Try that. Not much wrong with the reception on the nexus. It's a phone, it cannot help areas with bad signal get better...

If you are in Canada or USA flash ugkk7 radio. Or do a search and find the latest radio for your region. My wifi improved and cellular reception increased greatly. It is not quite Motorola or nokia reception but after flashing the radio I am very happy with it.
My grandma beat me down and took my nexus. Sent from a jitterbug with beats by dre.
Might be a fluke but today my gnex had 0 bars of reception and my wife's dx2 had 4 full bars. I was pretty pissed. 4.0.3 radios here. AXI0M 2.4 and Franco's nightly 10.

Never heard of the issues that Verizon (admittedly) has with their data / signal I suppose then?
The nexus doesn't have reception issues. There are some radios that are better than the rest, there are areas that have sh*t coverage, yes. There's however nothing wrong with the phone. Head to head comparison with the Atrix shows that the Nexus if anything has BETTER reception. Do some research & build your own opinion before you blindly trust a supplier's sales rep. Of course they never have issues!
P. S. I'm not trying to be a smartass. You will however be reported for being offensive next time. Not to mention that you're not supposed to write in any other language than English. Good day.
Edit: actually, do you even have the Galaxy Nexus or are you telling us about your issues with the nexus s..?

Before my Nexus, I had a Rezound for nearly a month. That thing, no matter where I was, always showed 3 - 4 bars. I never had any issues making Skype calls(data) & transfer speeds were incredibly fast(1GB in roughly 5 minutes). I am now on my 2nd Nexus and both of them had big time signal issues. I get 0 - 2 bars(will even switch to 3G regularly), Skype calls keep sounding robotic'y/cutting out(even disconnecting) and data isn't nearly as fast as before.
Don't get me wrong though, I do like the phone very much(especially the screen size) I just wish there was a fix for the signal. I've already tried out multiple rom/radio/kernal variations and nothing's helped. I've tried with 'data roaming' enabled and disabled also. If they decide to pull an Apple and release some sort of case that will improve signal strength, at this point i'm all for it.

also, vangelis..ughh.. i wasnt offensive..at all on this forum...if anything, you wrote a vulgarity (s*$t)
im pretty weirded out at how defensive you gotten over something, and that you assume Im just...'buying into' what a verizon representative would say
speaking of which...on a RECORDED LINE..why would a Cellular provider admit issues about a phone ?? is that beneficial to them?
and also, why would i just blindly bring up an issue with no substantial first hand experience on it? perhaps before you go off on vague offensive rebuttals, do yourself the favor and read the entire post a user provided..you will be surprised at what they offer..like ..how i said i have exchanged the galaxy nexus 3 times! and gues what!!! i was on tech support both on the phone AND at the store!! OMGGG and THEY ALL AGREED WOAHH!!!
is your fragile mind blown yet?
you are one confused person. p.s report me for being a normal person who provided useful information on this wonderful forum.
Hi. Is there anyway, or is there any Devs who could take the Orange UK Signal Boost app, port it to our Super GNex and make it work. Must be some super clever dev who can make it work....
I don't regret changing from an S2 to a Nexus in the slightest, but seeing as I live in the countryside, I do miss the Signal Boost app, was very useful as often find wi-fi where there was no phone signal.

I know what a placebo is. Point is Orange Signal Boost uses wi-fi for signal, so you can use it where you have wi-fi and no normal phone signal.
Please stick the to answering the actual question and not just writing stuff that really is not relevant to it, or is just wrong.
Uhhh reserved?
I think this is similiar to wifi calling.... If so, then no way to make it work correctly. Sorry...

I also had an S2 which I used signal boost all the time at home. After I lost the handset and went for a S3 replacement I too was disappointed. This fellow seems to have solved the problem, but I'm not very tech savvy, so I would be interested to learn if any of you guys have managed to implement this fix?

Move closer to civilization. I kid I kid. Seriously though, I'd say outside of getting a repeater or something along those lines, there's probably not much that can be done if you're just generally in a bad signal area. If others get good reception with the same carrier in your location, you may could try flashing a different modem; but that's not a guarantee that your reception will improve.
there are no mods or tricks to getting better reception. Its either a hardware issue (rarely though) or you are just unfortunate enough to be in a low reception area
Yea the service in my area sucks. When I had the sensation u used to be able to put aluminum foil on the battery door and it would boost signal. Just thought there was something like that...oh well lol
