I use the blacklist to reject calls & speed dial quite a bit. Does any ROM offer this?
I don't know if any ROMs offer that feature, but I've always used aFirewall for blacklisting calls. You can find it here: http://u.fbiryujin.com/afirewall
Note: I have no affiliation with this developer.

I don't think I've ever seen a phone with native blacklisting. Perhaps because the SMS/call still counts against your plan and carriers don't want to explain that to people. iMessage on the iOS platform is even worse for this. Someone figures out the e-mail you use for it, and relentless spam is now pushed to all your devices.

My SGS2 had the blacklist for calls built in the gingerbread build from stock... I have unlimited calling so I don't care if it counts and don't care if sms goes through. But it was part of the OS not an add on. Thanks for the input tho.

Actually I do remember having call blacklisting in SGS2 Skyrocket. I had SkyICS ROM though.

This is a app that does it,
* Fast Contact Search – Use phone pad to find contacts by names, initials or any part of the numbers.
*Number attribution - Show the registered location of phone number.
* Availability - Let your Pals know when you are free for a call. And you can Mark unavailable Pals to get Reminder once he/she turns to available.
* Facebook/Twitter Integration - Access to your Pal’s Facebook/Twitter page directly in contact details. Sync your status to Facebook/Twitter at once.
* Blocklist – Block/unblock calls from any contact.
* Contacts Exchange – Exchange e-business cards by just a flip.

Don't know. I don't use that app.
I know this should go in apps/themes but will probably get most visibility here, plus this thread will die quick enough anyways. Mods, move it if you want, not that you need my permission.

Also, the Search (Now), Maps, & Music updates are avaiable.

Anyone know if SMS is part of it? Seems silly for it not to be, but doesn't look like it's part of it. So not actually unified messaging yet.

Just installed it, and people's numbers are listed. What happens if I send a message to one? Bearing in mind that Google Voice doesn't yet exist in the UK!
Really does seem like an huge gap. They talked about getting technology out of the way so you can get on with communication, but I still have two apps to send messages and pictures to other people!

It verified my # first?. But didnt migrate my sms list and the hangout message I sent didnt show in sms. I agree it would be cool if that was a feature, maybe in the future.
Didnt want to make a new thread for this but since we are talking about apps and stuff announced at Google I/O. New updates for Google Play music and Google search are in the play store. Google Play Music looks COMPLETELY different.
It tried to verify my number, but I think that's a WhatsApp style link for others to find you.
However, my SIM reports my number as something else entirely because I ported a number over. So it couldn't verify me. Trying to talk to my network now, they're not answering...

I like the improvements too! I figured as much of a hot topic as Hangouts has been I might as well post the thread just in case someone forgot what today is lol. Like I said in the OP, I'm expecting it to die quickly - just a friendly PSA. But you are correct, probably didn't warrant a new thread but I've seen worse.

Mine said it was going to send a sms, but I never received one, instead I received a notification that my # was verified.
Yeah, but the number my SIM reports is not my phone number, and Hangouts picked up the number from the SIM! Trying to get the network to reset it...

This is transitioning Talk into Hangouts so it may take a little time for everything to line up. At first I was being directed to "Hangouts (replaces Talk)" that just said "open" on my device, and it looked like Talk. But then, after a dozen impatient refreshes, "open" changed to "update". Now Talk is labeled Hangout and has the new UI, but the icon is still Talk. Messages I am sending in Hangout on my phone are appearing in Talk in gmail on my comp right now.

If you are using a ROM where Talk is one of the system apps, you may need to uninstall it. I used Titanium Backup to uninstall it and then downloaded Hangouts from the Play Store.

If I'm understanding you right, you're trying to access Hangouts via the Gmail web interface. The Chrome Hangouts plugin does NOT replace the Talk box in Gmail. It adds an extra app, which is accessed by clicking the Hangouts icon on your Chrome toolbar.
The Gmail web interface will be rolled out later and will be upgraded from within Gmail itself.

Using the OP3 for 5 days now and still struggling a lot . Somehow I got the message about no space on the storage although there were not many files there. So had to do a reset, and reinstalled all apps a fresh.
I am horribly addicted to the DND , Block Caller , Memo and Email Client of Samsung. I assumed that the OP3 being a Android phone, would have all of these and more.
I have installed a app (Do not Disturb) for the DND which seems to be working fine. Can someone suggest a workaround for the other three problems, i.e Block Caller, Memo (where I can import samsung memos) and email client like Samsung, please.
I would like to keep the phone and am making all efforts to work towards that. All advice will be highly appreciated.
A stupid question, would all these problems be overcome with a downgrade to Marshamallow, if that is possible at all ?
- use google keep for memo (its better)
- tons of options for email, you can use Gmail for starters (even for Microsoft Exchange), or check out BlueMail if you want to try a third party.
if you're trying to get these on stock OOS with no root/xposed:
- create a contact called SPAM and add callers you want to block to that, then make that contact's calls all go to voicemail
if you're willing to unlock BL & root:
- Flash Google Dialer w/ framework to block callers
- use Root Call Blocker

Yes i know but since millions of people are already using it so they already have most of our phone contacts anyway. The only thing that we can do is just get our own number removed from their database.

Thanks for your reply. Gmail does not go to the Combined view of Inbox directly, dislike that. Needed a simple client which is included with the phone. Have tried BlueMail found it very complicated. I dont mind rooting if I can get a permanent solution to my problems.
About Truecaller or any other Dialler which uploads the phone book, is a huge issue for me and I dont want to do that.
About Google Keep, have tried that. Didnt like it. Besides I have hundreds of notes on my Samsung Memo with Titanium backups available, all lost.

You are issues rare, it also tells how diverse this world is. Most people here, specially me, just hate Samsung UI, missing frame rates and lags, chinese looking touchwiz. Good to know, some people prefer it as well. I exchanged galaxy S7 for OP3 with commitment never to buy Samsung again, i feel you have opposite issues
There are tones of memo applications, oneNote it's working fine and also you can sync with the widows os, using a branded application such Samsung's crap which you can't ported to other devices it's risky, Samsung like Apple are pushing us to use their own ****, less flexibility

You should try HydrogenOS v0.10 which comes with its own notes app and you can block or record calls directly from the phone app. For email, I myself use Inbox from Google which works great but try few from PlayStore.

For memo i would suggest google keep or colornote, for mail you can try outlook, for call blocking you can try call blocker by nq mobile security it works good for me.
And if you root it to some other custom rom like resurrection rom i think there is an inbult feature of call blocking..

Your first mistake is thinking that Samsung ships Android. They ship TouchWiz and add a bunch of "value added" crap most people don't care about. Most if not all of those things can be found on Google Play.
Just wondering if there are users out there. At the moment I use Verizon's Message +
Until Google gets with the program and adds SMS support, nope. Not many people want to have two or more messaging apps. It's sad too, I would definitely use it if it supported SMS. I was one of the millions of people who downloaded it when it was released only to be disappointed, heavily. I think they'll port at least some of the functionality to Android Messages though. They've already added Gif and search support, and smart replies is apparently coming soon too. So, whatever. If they add assistant to AM I'll be plenty happy.

Yeah it does. I personally love Allo. I was stuck on my iPhone for awhile because I loved iMessage but every since I've been using Allo it made the transition a lot easier.
Most of my friends use it so that's a plus. If none of my friends were on it then I probably wouldn't use it as much.

You and your friends are in a very small minority of Allo users. I have more friends that use Hangouts (just 1 lol) than Allo. As mentioned before, until it supports SMS, then no one in the U.S. has a reason to switch. And all other countries get more functionality from WhatsApp already so they wouldn't switch anyway. Allo is pretty much doomed to fail.
My wife has an iPhone, and I will never use one, so we use Allo. I like that it's cross platform
They need to add SMS fallback and make Allo the default messaging app (get rid of Android messages or put Allo features into Android messages). Once that's done, it will gain adoption. I think these days, it's foolish to have a messaging app optional to use. iMessage works because everyone on the iOS platform can use it immediately.

But making it the default (exactly like Chrome) would be a good thing, because 70% of people will use the default app because they simply don't know any better and don't care.
The other 30% care and can easily augment or switch apps, but adding SMS and making it at least the initial default would be the smart play. However, being the smart and obvious 'solution' to the whole ****show that is Android messaging pretty much decisively means Google won't even consider it.
Google voice basically has me locked to hangouts #shrugs
For all the good stuff they do for the OS in terms of usability, etc, i just don't get why they can't get their act together on a simple messaging app

It's because Google has given up on merging SMS with Allo and is betting on RCS technology to be the solution going forward. Too bad only Sprint has it and doesn't work between different carriers. Ugh!

And it's the DUMBEST thing! I could definitely see if ALL of the US carriers (as well as a lot overseas of course) were planning on rolling out RCS within MONTHS of Allo's release, but no one but Sprint has even announced that they are working on it to my knowledge. Sooo, it's, hey, use our app and don't let it die for literally YEARS while we wait for carriers to adopt this new standard. We don't want to go backwards and use SMS... Brilliant
The team lead has left Allo (and Google I think), sooo, maybe the new person won't have their head up their @$$? Wishful thinking I'm sure.
It's such a shame, I would love to be able to use Allo.
It is useful for sharing videos and pictures to users on Sprint and at&t as they will not transmit die to those networks size limitations on mms.
And even on Verizon and TMobile which do not seem to have a limit on the size of pictures.
Allo allows you to send files as large 200mb. Telegram allows up to 1GB or 2GB per file.

I'm dumb... this is the same link as above, however it works infinitely better than the oneplus dialer at spam call handling. Coming from a oneplus 5 rooted etc. etc. to the oneplus 7t unrooted. "Neighborhood Spam Dialers" (same area code) trickery will still get through, but no real way to stop those.

Six of one; half-dozen of the other. In my case, PlayStore didn't immediately recognize that I had framework installed, but I think it would have eventually. I didn't care to wait so I got the Phone app from APKmirror.
