Galaxy s9, if screen is turned on, device turns off - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

Hello guys, I have a question, I have read several posts and I can't find any similar behavior....I went for vacation to the beach on last weekend, my cellphone got wet and I just washed it and let it dry as usual (several times before in pools, or rainy days), the issue comes when the device started to turn off automatically after some seconds, I assumed it was due to some moisture or something similar, so, I put the device in rice and let it dry for about 36 hours, today after I tested it, the same results
What I noticed after several tries to take out a backup of my pictures, Is that If I let the phone turned on in stand by, the phone works perfectly, I can hear notifications, the led blinks, I could get a backup with usb, etc, at the moment I turn on the screen (even without unlocking it), the device turns off...If I turn it on again, the behavior repeats......
I tried with Samsung warranty, but as it seems that it's imported from another country, samsung doesn't want to even take a look, and If so, they said that most probably it is due to the salad water...which warranty doesn't cover....so, I'm with a very expensive paperweight...
Anyone could tell me what could I do? it could be Sw related? is still moisture/water in it? it is some hardware damaged? Any help would be really appreciated....I have found all the help that I needed before by just reading the posts, but i haven't seen similar questions/behaviors.
Thanks and Regards

Phone freezes up when idle

If I leave my phone on and come back to in about an hour it becomes unresponsive. The screen is won't come on, usb won't work and the power button doesn't work as well, but the lights still flash. All I can do is take the battery out and turn it on again.
At first i thought the keypad must have been getting disabled after a certain amount of time for some reason, but since the usb the connection alos dies when it's idle it must be something else.
I've been having this problem for awhile now. It first it started every once and awhile, but now it's getting to the point that I have to reset it every hour or so.
I just upgraded my ROM to Kavana 080408, but I've had this problem running the T-mobile WM6 ROM as well, therefore I'm guessing it's a hardware issue?
Any thoughts, questions, or help is greatly appriciated!
call tmobile and ask them to send you a new phone... its hardware issues...
Thank you. Err.. the only thing I haven't mentioned (for lack of mistaking the problem) is that just 3 days ago I dropped my phone outside and it rained the next morning. When I recovered the phone it was soaked.. I let it dry out and it worked again.
I think the incedent had to have been irrelevant, because I have been having this problem for about 8 months regaurdless, just not as severe.
Would T-mobile be able to know it got wet at some point and not exchange it because they'd assume the problem was due to water damage?
Well if you look under the battery to the right where the sim card goes, there is a litmus paper that turns purple/pink when wet and its white originally. I would just remove the paper if it is purple/pink and try to cut and glue a white piece of paper the same size. And then I would call them and tell them.
Glue and fish strips?
Thanks, but hmm.. how exact should this be? I was thinking about going to the fish store and buying some test strips and using those. Then i was thinking about thinning out some glue and using that to stick it. Does this sound good? I'll post how it goes.
Dash Arrived then Died
I just got my dash about two weeks ago. Before I could start finding my way around, it began acting strangely. It would not respond and sometimes suddenly cut off on it's on. Then it got to the point where it would not turn on right away. I would have to play with it (battery and SIM removal) and then it might turn on. I thought I was using the power button incorrectly.
Finally, the dash would not turn on at all. Since it was new and insured I requested a replacement. T-Mobile insisted that I test it with a alternate battery (I had a charger stand + battery on order but it had not arrived yet.) Since it would still not turn on via USB or power adapter (no charging lights either) I was certain it was not the battery. After arguing with a T-Mobile Rep and Supervisor I finally decided to lie (er um exaggerate) and tell them I had tested an alternate battery.
Before the new phone arrived the charger and spare battery arrived. I tried both batteries in the new phone with no problems.
You may want to try and get a new phone but the T-Mo rep definitely asked me the color of the paper strip inside the battery housing. My rep told me that it would change color if the LCD was damaged or cracked but I checked another phone (Samsung T409 and Motorola V188) and based on the locations of the strips I would assume it's a water damage test strip.
You may also want to see it you can remove a strip from an older phone.
Good luck!

my ARTE110 wont turn on

hi guys, not been on for a long time as i moved onto a newer phone, but ive recently lost the new phone and decided to route out my old MDA compactIII (ARTE110), i charged it for a few hours while i went out and when i came back i tried to turn it on but it wouldnt, i remember dropping the phone down a set of stairs before i upgraded, but it worked fine after the fall.
is there anything i should be looking for inside the phone thats prone to simple nocks and bangs or would it be best to try and buy another one as i really miss using this phone.
if its a simple dont bother ill be on the look out for a HTC kesier
anybody???
Hard to say, isn't it?
Did it still work when you got your new phone?
How long ago was that?
What does it do and what does it not do?
Does it show the charging LED?
Yellow on charging, green when fully charged.
For all we know right now your battery or even your charger might be dead.
I take it you don't see anything on the screen, but that doesn't necessary mean it doesn't switch on, for instance: are there any sounds?
What happens when you click on the screen, does it give you any sound-feedback? Did you turn sound-feedback on (so many months or so ago)?
In short: give us as many details as you can!

Random restarting and freezing [PICS ADDED]

Hi all, just want to describe some problems I've been having over the last week or so.
Basically, my Orbit suddenly developed the habit of randomly freezing and displaying wierd patterns on the screen and requiring a soft reset and also just randomly restarting.
I first noticed this about a week ago, the phone did fall out onto the driveway a few days ago but it wasn't nothing it hasn't been through before and the screen is FINE, no dead pixels nothing. This is the ROM I had on it when it first started happening: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=912989
My initial thought that it was something do with something installed on it, perhaps a software issue so I did a hard reset but same problems. I changed the ROM a few times but same problems. It's getting to the point where I have to look to buy a new phone.
It's quite difficult to describe what happens when the device freezes. I will try and get a picture or video but it's at random . The best way I can describe it is that it the device freezes, a section of the screen goes black slowly before the remaining section fades to black completely sometimes showing white lines. Moreoever, when I say the screen goes black, I don't mean that it goes off, the screen remains on but black.
Perhaps it is a hardware issue with a loose/faulty connection somewhere? My first thought was that it could be down to the screen connection but when the phone is working, the screen is absolutely normal.
Any suggestions are welcome. Please bear in mind that I've got no trouble in opening the device if needs be (had to change the LCD screen myself, I know, I know, go me! ). Thanks in advance!
Just noticed something. I've had it lying around re-filling up the inbox from a backup but as soon as I attached the charger, the problem occured, so could it be down to something from that as a result?
I've just managed to take a few pics. Theres quite a bit of glare unfortunately however this type of pattern doesn't always occur, sometimes it's less noticable than that.

hi dude,
my first thought was battery but now thinking you might have a loose connection with the motherboard and lcd.
i would check lcd ribbon that connects to motherboard first, obviously you know exacly what i meen, if that is not the problem i would buy a new battery (charge while off, do not turn on untill fully charged new battery)
if both of these do not do the trick then i would consider buying a new device. (unless anyone else has any ideas??)
thanks

[Q] Galaxy Nexus dead?

Hi,
I received a complaint from a friend of mine that her galaxy nexus stopped working. She dropped the phone off at a service center, and they told her that it was a hardware problem - specifically the "flash ig" inside the phone was broken. I tried looking this up but no info could be found.
What happened was that basically her phone underwent a hard fall and a portion of the screen on the bottom right cracked. However the phone worked normally for the next 2 days. After that the phone just turned off and no attempts were successful in turning it on thereafter.
I took a look at the phone, tried resetting it in every way possible, but nothing works. I believe the screen flashed for a brief second around 10-15 minutes after i plugged the phone into my laptop, but im not sure. Other than that, it's basically a paperweight at this point.
Can anything be done for the phone, any hopes or possibilities? Please let me know. Attached a couple pics showing the crack.
Thanks.
can anyone help with this?
Without seeing the actual damage, no one can say for sure. It could be as simple as resoldering one connection on the pcb, or it could be toast. Trust me in the no one is clairvoyant enough to determine what the damage is without actually opening it up to see. There's not much to lose at this point, so you may want to open it up using one of the teardown guides online and see if anything jumps out at you.

Black Screen, phone still works?

Hello XDA members, this time I'm writing to all of you to tell you something that happened to my Optimus G E987 from Claro Argentina, also, to ask you something related to the topic.
I bought this phone about 4-5 months ago, and I have taken really good care of it, without using any film protection or case, it was working perfect and with not a single scratch on it, not even a little hit.
But then, some days ago, I decided to "protect it" a little bit, so I got one of this:

htt-p://i[dot]imgur.com/la1kI5e[dot]jpg
(Sorry, I'm new to this forum so it won't let me post links)
I used it like.. dunno, 3-4 days. One night, my phone was on 53% battery, to lazy to charge it so I just let it like that. Next day I gave it some use, so it dropped to 33% of battery life, I had to go work so I turned it off. When I finished, I tried to turn it on again, but nothing happened, tried more times and nothing, then I noticed I liiiitle light in the screen, the phone was turned on, but with REALLY low visibility, almost everything black but with a little of sight.
I though it was just a battery problem, so I charged it, but to my surprise, nothing happened, well something did happen, the little bit of sight that I had just went full black with no visibility. I noticed that the touch screen and buttons actually worked, I could "easily" navigate through the phone by just using it as normal, but without seeing (you can do this by just knowing your phone a bit).
And that's the story, basically, after using that case, the phone "casually" stopped working properly, all I got was a functionally phone with a black screen.
I managed to connect it to my pc through wifi and launched Android Screen Cast, to see what was happening on my phone. The glow was at 100% (I tried changing it) and everything seemed normal.
If you don't want to read, here is a TL;DR
>Bought Magnetic* Flip Stand Leather Wallet Case for Optimus G
>Some days after, phone screen stopped working (phone was still normally working, just with a full black screen)
About the Magnetic thing.. is there any possibility that this was the problem? the magnetic thing?
Btw, I sent the phone to tech service because it was still on warranty and they have me a new one, now I'm scared of putting it again in the leather case I bought, I don't want this to happen again.
Something to comment? hope you can give me some advice, thanks in advance!
Also having similar problems as you. Somehow, i am quite sure its the stock rom causing the problem.
Had the very same issue few weeks ago, had to send the phone back to LG ( who replaced the motherboard :/).
I was also on stock rom, had root and unlock bootloader (of course I clean all that **** before sending it back).
For my part, I was unable to go to recovery and download mode was quit impossible to access (may be my finger fault )
BUT! some time if I let the phone off for a moment or spam the power key, the backlight turn back on until I power down the phone, so it's could be a software issue ...
Anyway, an other info, when the backlight was off, if i tried to change backlight level i was getting a error message about overeating or something like that...
