How to resolve "Permission Denied" message issue? - Honor 7X Questions & Answers

I have a Honor 7X with Android and EMUI version 8.0.0.
I am using Nova Launcher as my default launcher currently. I want to use a gesture to lock my screen. I am using Nova Launcher's Activities to create the shortcut. Under System UI, there is an option for Screen Lock which I need to use. When I created the shortcut and used it, I recieved a pop-up message of "Permission Denied" and I could not use the shortcut using the gesture.*
All I want is to lock the screen using gestures without the Device Admin interference...
Can I use adb permission somehow?
Please Help!

Check whether there is a permission called as draw over other apps for launcher , if yes enable it.

It is already enabled. I think that there is some permission needed to the launcher by Huawei system...

Setting a Launcher as default homescreen, Fire 2015 (No root)

I am trying to set Nova Launcher from the Play Store as my default homescreen on the Fire 2015. I am currently trying to do so using the ADB '$ pm hide com.amazon.kindle.otter' command which I saw on other websites but this isn't working. From what I can gather, by using the command which gets a list of active apps etc, this file doesn't exist. I'm using Fire OS 5.1.1. Does anyone have a suggestion on what else to try? Like I said, hide and disable commands don't work. Perhaps at some point between KitKat and Lollipop, Amazon has changed the file which governs the home screen? If so, what should I be hiding?

Can't change permissions - screen overlay detected

I'm on Android 6.0.1 stock. I had earlier installed the RedMoon app which is like what f.lux does in Windows. But if that app is running, you can't change the "app permissions" manually. You have to pause/clsoe the RedMoon app and then you may disable the permissions.
Otherwise, you'll be prompted with this error -
Screen overlay detected
To change this permission setting, you first have to turn off the screen overlay from Settings > Apps.
Anyway, later I uninstalled the RedMoon app but still I can't change the default permissions unless I'm prompted on the first run.
e.g. When I installed the Snapdeal app, even before the first launch, it had all the permissions, but I don't want to give sms/contacts permissions to it. How do I change it?
If you go to the application manager in your phone's settings and find the specific app you want to change permissions for, there should be a permissions option. You can each permission the app has there. Also, the next time you get a popup about the screen overlay, click the Open Settings option and scroll through the list of apps to find any that show the toggle in the on position. For me, the two apps that have screen overlay permissions are Messaging and Facebook Messenger. I have to disable them each time in order to accept permissions, then I have to re-enable the overlay later. It's a stupid system and I'm hoping the release of Android N will find a more elegant solution, but for now it's the only workaround I know of.

Apps made before MM's permission changes don't prompt on demand and are all granted. When you try to disable one of their permissions in a list it will warn you that errors may occur.
I've found a workaround for quickly disabling an overlay for permission toggling. I posted it here:

In my micromax canvas a1 I don't know how to disable the screen overlay setting ????

Selecting Home Launcher Repeatedly

Hello,
I just got my One Plus 3 a day ago and I have setup Nova Launcher as my Home Launcher. Installed my necessary apps. For some reason I cannot figure out, everytime I go into Settings, when I press the Home button, it asks what launcher to use as default. I always select Nova Launcher but when I go back to settings, it happens again. What is wrong with my Settings?
I have read that some apps act as a launcher so I installed Launcher Switcher and found that there are 3 launchers to choose from, OnePlus Launcher, Nova Launcher and File Manager. What is this File Manager App? I tried to go into Settings > App > File Manager but I cannot disable this.
Also I have read some apps that when they uninstalled those apps, the problem went away. For example is the Hotmail app. I don't have this app installed and so far, I just notice the problem after going in Settings App. Also, I have read that Nova Launcher will detect which app is causing the problem but I cannot see that on my side. No notification by Nova Launcher informing me of problematic apps that is causing the default home launcher to reset frequently.
I am not rooted, no custom recovery installed but I think my bootloader is unlocked because when I power ON my phone, I get the "It cannot be trusted" thing on boot up. OS version is 3.1.3
Thanks for the help.
[UPDATE]
1. I also encounter the problem after switching apps via Recents App button. For example I open Facebook, when I press Home button, its fine. I open Spotify, and press Home, its still fine. When I access Facebook via Recent Apps button, and then click Home, the problem occurs. Please help.
You can make your choice of launcher as default app by selecting in settings - home and select your default launcher
I had this exact same problem.
Your device has been flashed with a an unofficial rom (thats why you get that warning when switching the phone on for 5 seconds).
It was most probably done by whoever you bought the phone from. They usually do it to move from Hydrogen to Oxygen, but in the process they load in some crapware.
You need to flash your device to stock Oxygen using the official Rom.

you can reinstall the firmware from official oneplus website and after flashing the latest firmware, go into developer options (you have to enable them first by going to about phone and tapping the build no. 7 times, then enable advance reboot and usb debugging.) do not personalise your phone or set it up. reboot into bootlader and using adb and fastboot run the command "fastboot oem lock" this will erase all your data and reset your phone again and you wont get the splash screen message again.

"Allow Nova Launcher to open ... ?" - annoying message

I use official Chinese rom on Redmi Note 5 (pro, 3/32GB) with Nova launcher. Unfortunately when I try to open an app that I've installed via Google Play or .apk file I get a permission request "Allow Nova Launcher to open ... ?".
Is there a simple way (except for flashing a new rom) to remove this? It happens once a reboot - if I say OK then I can use this particular app without further messages, but when I reboot the phone the issue comes back. So far gave Nova all permissions possible but no luck.
As any other apps also have the same annoying message
Each boot, Eaxh apps will have"allow *** to open" sorta message pop-up. Tried googling but found nothing. My phone China ROM too.
Anyone knows how to disable the security thingy?
Security app >manage apps>permission>Auto start
Enable Auto start for all apps
Et voila !
(It's not that Nova doesn't have permission to open these apps . These apps aren't allowed to be started by other apps , that's the problem)

Add notifications to Shield

Must have your Shield rooted
apps needed installed
-AppOps
-Settings Editor
-Snowball
-Heads Up Notifications
-terminal emulator
Install the 5 above apps.
Grant settings editor WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS permission in terminal
-su
-pm Grant by4a.setedit22 android/.permission WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS
Add Snowball and Heads Up listeners to active listeners
-go to secure table in Settings Editor
-choose "enabled_notification_listeners" and choose editor value
-replace all text with "com.snowball.app/.nsprocess.NotificationService:codes.simen.l50notifications/.NotificationListenerService"
Grant draw over apps permission to snowball and Heads Up in AppOps
-for each app change "this app can appear over top of other apps" to allow
Now open Heads up and snowball and run through the setups.
You should now get notifications.

I just did it without root, just needed to not use appops.
so you need
-settings editor
-terminal emulator
-heads up
install settings editor and terminal editor
open terminal and put in"pm grant by4a.setedit22 android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS"
install heads up
-go to secure table in Settings Editor
-choose "enabled_notification_listeners" and choose editor value
-replace all text with "codes.simen.l50notifications/.NotificationListenerService"
open terminal and put in "pm grant codes.simen.l50notifications android.permission.SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW"
let me know how that works
Quick question before I try this, is there a way to turn off notifications? Like say I don't want notifications from specific apps - how do I stop this if there is no way to turn off notifications from within the app??
Tbh I only want notifications coming from one app only if poss

just turn off the notification toggle in settings apps for the app you want notifications disabled.
Settings editor is a Xposed module - Xposed requires root! So no go unfortunately

Would love to have had this to work
Can anyone else help with this?
can you adb into your shield?
No pc or root, I have been using termux recently to upload music to Google play music as there's no way to do this with Android atm, which is working fine. I tried your code again the other day using termux, seems like your code you asked me to enter needed a few spaces in places for it to recognize the command but I still got an error, I'll upload a screenshot later on when I'm at home
Try using "ADB Shellkit" to enter the commands, I've tried it and you need at least ADB access to follow this walkthrough without root.
