Any way to root without unlocking bootloader? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro Questions & Answers

I have to wait for 360h which is a long time, I want to at least be able to root and install an ad blocker because ads are driving me insane. Anyway to do that without unlocking the bootloader? Thanks!

No reliable and trusted method to do so.
Any one click solutions are full of malware/adware etc, and mostly click-bait!

Well that's a shame. I don't know how I can spend 15 days without root AND on MIUI.

IKR? That was the case for me too. But no I have only about 21 hours left to fully enjoy my device.
Just be patient and not thinking of it for the next 15 days. Good luck!

No way.

Apps Able to Use ExtSD with KK4.4.4 Root

Brand new to the Note 4 - yesterday - and admittedly sick and brain dead atm. If I root will my apps and my extSD play nice or will I have the same issue? I'm used to root and it's driving a bit nuts not being able to use the SD properly. I want to wait a bit to root, but...

The Note 4 has been discontinued. Not sure what youre holding back on root for. Theres nothing to lose and everything to gain.
Trial and error. Root and see.

 Yeah, I get that. Problem comes in because I just bought it yesterday. If I need to return it for some reason... you know the rest. Just want to know if root fixes it or not. If not, no worries and I'll stay unrooted for a while longer. If it does, then yay and I'll move up my root date. As it is I feel like it's hobbled.
Thanks!

I get your reason for not rooting for now. lol Thought it was merely just not want to root thing.
Stick to your guns, hopefully someone who uses apps heavily can contribute to this Q.

That's what I'm hoping. Once I'm sure I'm keeping it, and make sure I can keep it on KK with root until the LP bugs are worked out, then I'll do the dirty deed. Was hoping not to have to, but the garbage like the extSd thing and apps that can't be frozen are driving me nuts.
Thanks again, mate! :good:

September security patch Verizon!!!

Just got my OTA.. time to restore theme and update!
#prayforunlockedbootloadersoon!!!
PS: Downloading now
just throwing my personal experience out there.
After updating, i had super crappy reception and extremely slow speeds. i actually ended up flashing just the radio from "8.0.0 (OPR6.170623.012, Aug 2017)" to get decent service back.

I think some devs are closer than what you think. Lol. They have found the source to rebuild our bootloader.

You need root first. Without root it won't happen. Unlocking it is easy, getting privs to perform the unlock is the issue.

good luck replacing the boot loader without an unlocked bootloader. hint: if it was that easy, we could already replace the bootloader with the unlocked variant.

I did the exact same thing
My update seems to fix the blue tooth problem I had in a 2017 Tahoo with the phone not working. I think at this point it may have fixed the battery life issue I was having too. That may be too soon to tell.
nope battery still is draining fast. Not sure why. It did not seem to start until I installed O in beta. I thought maybe it would have fixed it self, But did not as of now.

My battery life is subpar as well...
The first picture shows my battery results for the day after charging for exactly 30 minutes at lunch... Huge difference if you can squeeze in that 30 minutes!

i can also confirm that reception has decreased. i travel weekly into a low coverage area and always got service but 1 bar with some 3G and now i just get no service in those areas.
I have gotten the best battery life out of September I've ever had. Wonder why your phones are different.
I run Tasker and get lots of cloud messages.

locking bootloader after root?

Hi it's been a while since ive had to newly root a phone, (about 4 years) I just got my pixel 2xl (unlocked version) and I want to root it but I want to lock the bootloader after rooting. What kind of effect will this have? Will I lose root?

Oh dear God....DON'T DO THAT!
For one, you will brick your device.
Two, you will brick your device.
Three, you won't have root or anything else, because...it will brick your device!
And that's why I ask before going off and doing stuff

A wise man indeed. You'd be surprised how many don't. And then wonder why their device doesn't work anymore

Yes...and you'd do very well to listen to another wise man, the Badger...
But, then again, you'd be surprised how many are/were mistakenly, misguidedly, and peculiarly obsessed with locking the bootloader after it's been unlocked...for seemingly random reasons...and end up bricking their device and begging/pleading for help....
So...I'd say you are a wise man indeed...

Root

Hey Guys!
I know this is a hard question to answer since the S20 Series isn't even released yet but I really wonder how long it will take root to be released? The first time I pre-ordered a Phone was the S10 and with took forever to be rooted! Is that usually how it works or did it take little longer for the S10 Series because Samsung changed many things and dev's had to overcome those changes?
The exynos will be rooted fairly quickly, snapdragon... not so much.

what do you mean by that? root for S10 Series took over a month... do you consider that fairly quick?
Yes...

A month is very quick. 3-4 months is usually the average. 6+ months is slow.

Ugh.... owning a device at launch sucks then.
The euro version enoxys or however it's spelled will get root almost immediately as usual with Samsung and with that being said Snapdragon may never see it and if it does we're lucky

Just curious, why do you guys need root access? I've given up on that since they came out with Knox and haven't looked back.

Not with data/settings I'm afraid. Just the apps. And you have to do the settings yourself. I have a few hundred apps and I don't want to do their settings every time.
The call recorder app I use requires root.
not too much, but still something needs root for me. Why the korean version shipped with snapdragon T_T

Make a backup on your SD card and it will save settings too. That's what I did when I got my S20+ this Monday. Made a SD card backup on my S10+ , and everything including settings transferred over to the new phone. I also have a couple hundred user apps myself.

Yep, exactly. The backup took about 3-4 minutes, and the restore took about or 8-9. I still had to do a LITTLE tweaking to get everything back how it is was, but the overall process was super simple.

I have tried this. I don't know if has changed lately, but if you have an app with a ton of settings, like AquaMail for instance, try restoring it and see if all your settings are back. I'd be surprised, if so. Thanks for your replies anyway.
I'm curious I bought mine directly from Samsung unlocked version snapdragon so it is not carrier specific. So will that be able to be rooted or does that fall under the same as carrier units?

I want to root. This is a T-mobile oneplus 9 pro and it's barely a week old.Ive been told T-mobile has a network lock on their new phones for 40 days. Supposedly they will unlock it no problem after that. From there I'm thinking unlock bootloader even more importantly decided on how I want to gain root access.Im leaning towards the magisk without twrp....????This will be my first time Rooting as phone of any kind. With that being said I purchase this oneplus and actually waited awhile for the 9pro with the soul purpose of rooting and modding not to mention breaking up with all my bloatware apps.

When the time comes, make sure you backup your data. Unlocking your bootloader will wipe the phone.

How long have you been a T-mobile customer? if it has been a while use that and say that you want to get updates directly from Oneplus and that the phone needs to be unlocked to do so. That has worked for me every time but we have has tmo for 10+ years so they love my account lol

I use FTP Server Pro and Filezilla client on my computer to backup/restore data from the "sdcard". I usually do full backups to make sure I have my latest data if I have to change roms or have any problems from a bad flash.
For back and restore of apps I use Swift Backup, if you have root applied then it will let you backup/restore the data for each app also so apps like 2FA will still work without having to re-register. It will let you use Dropbox, OneDrive or FTP to backup/restore your apps and data too.
