Hello to all,
I just received my brand new Redmi Note 5 pro today, and i am quite happy with it. Anyway, I took the 32GB/3Go Ram version, and i have a doubt about it, maybe i should have taken de 64/4Go Ram version.
Regarding storage capacity, it's not a problem as i can had a micro sd card, my issue is regarding the RAM, android takes a little bit more of 2 Go in RAM and only 600 Mo left, and i still do not installed anything on it.
In addition, i would say the SD 636 is a decent one, but still, i can notice some micro lag, or i would rather say nano lag. I know that for lot of people it's not a big deal, but for others, i can be annoying.
So, mainly, i have two questions :
1) For those who have de 32Go/3Go RAM version, days after days and weeks after weeks, does your RAM is saturated ?
2) For those who installed an alternative rom, did you notice some improvements ? Is it more fluid, or a little bit more quick ?
Thanks a lot in advance for your inputs
I tried AEX and Bootleggers roms and this micro lag is noticeable more than it was on MIUI.
Yo,yo chill out with the micro lags, the indians are going to flood the topic with "Something iz wrong with your fone, mine is fast fast".
But yeah, I can feel the micro lag, the laggy animations and other things like that. Tbh it's because Xiaomi. They 100% are messing up something with surface-flinger and gpu drivers (probably). I've used RN4, Mi5S and now RN5, they are all laggy.
Idk. It's probably because most people don't notice the micro lags so no one tries to fix them..
My old Nexus 5 is smoother than my RN5 (animation-wise atleast)

Even my Nexus 4 with any oreo rom, didn't face that problem in animation at least.

Hahaha, that was hilarious! You seem to know many things so I want to ask you something. Did this laggy experience improved by using some custom rom(aosp based or debloated and improved miui)?

Dude whats wrong with you ?? We indians dont have 3GB RAM 32GB ROM mobile, all we got is 4GB/6GB RAM and 64GB ROM.
You nexus 5 wasfluid because of pure android whereas redmi note5/pro has MIUI.
You dont know the simple fact miui is resource Hungry as compared to pure android
Thank you so much for taking my bait.
But i was talking about AOSP vs AOSP or LOS vs LOS. I have LOS 15.1 on both of them right now and my Nexus is 20 times smoother.
And stop talking about ram/storage, that has nothing to do with the problem.

Nope, not at all. Custom ROMS are a stuttering mess.

If RAM and storage is nothing to do with problem then why did you mentioned Indians in your comment ??? I mentioned about RAM storage because we dont have 3GB model. so get your fact first before mentioning country name
can you upload side by side video between Nexus 5 and Redmi Note 5/Pro performance (Like to see 20 times smoother performance of Nexus 5).. I believe you are getting smoother experience in Nexus 5 because it has SD800 processor with clock speed 4x2.3GHz but Redmi Note 5/Pro has SD636 with 8x1.8GHz
Clock speed is the main reason

Alright, thanks to all for your inputs, but i think i did not get everything. To be more accurate, does the RN5 would be less laggy (in theroy) with a pure AOSP (or near pure) ROM ? like LineageOS for instance ?

Yes, maybr it's because there are a lot a features in that ROM, to me it's not a "pure" ROM, if i can say so

Because its funny. You just don't get the joke. Or let me rephrase it. "Itz funi jeah bro! You stupid becauz you dont understand joke bro! bro! bro bro!"
The "lag" has nothing to do with RAM or storage capacities. 3GB should be more than enough to run any app/game out there, and if you are like myself, I only run one or two apps at the same time, so there's plenty of RAM left. I usually have about 1.3/1.5GB free RAM after everything is cleared.

i experience the lag too while i was on MIUI, the camera lags a lot! and yeah! the lag fixed with AOSP roms, but when you have like 4 heavy apps, you still going to experience refreshing apps, but its normal for a device like this, with my previos phone (Mi mix) that is less common and i have the 3/32 too.
Very fast.
I go into developer settings, reduce all 3 windows animations to 0.5
The result is impressive. Everything just becomes much faster!
Ofcoz it could even be faster if I set all 3 animation speed to 0.
But i feel 0.5 is the sweet spot.
PS: I'm on official global rom stable
You can try AOSIP Rom,i had also felt the lag,i had tried many rom and firmware.......But with AOSiP rom i feel smooth/less lag performance.

So tried AOSIP but still can notice that lag, navigating between apps is not that snappy and scrolling sometimes stutters not smooth, same experience had it with aex and bootleggers.
Anyone has the same problem, or found a solution for this ?
How could old phones like nexus 4 or 5 be snappier with custom roms than our phone ?

Simple answer is because of SD636
it is relatively new processor and it need more optimisation. (I still doubt Qualcomm released source code for SD636 processor)
I've had mine for one day and find it rather snappy myself. Of course I haven't even really taken it for a good test drive yet, but it seems fairly fast. I predict the beginning of a beautiful relationship.

Would you say that the Samsung Galaxy S8+ is "fast" in day-to-day use? A higher rating indicates that you think the Samsung Galaxy S8+ exhibits fantastic performance. Like, is it as fast as your tears when you watch The Titanic?
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Yes Its really fast
Yes it really fast and reliable, I am using and I advice others to use it. thanks
T-Mobile is fast in Orlando on the S8+.
In my opinion, the S8 is hindered by typical Samsung jitter, transitions and animations stutter all over the place, its really jarring, and its making me reconsider upgrading to the Note 8.
I have been using my Gs8+ for 3 months now and for the first 2 months I was very happy with performance but now I am experiencing hickups. The device gets warm to the touch, a reboot seems to fix the problems for a few hours. Now that I have also bought the new iPad Pro 10.5 it seems like a pile of **** like I'm using a 3 year old phone. I am thinking of resetting it and if it happens again i'l try a custom ROM. But I can still recommend this phone because I think it's partly because I expect to much as a poweruser.
Better than the rest!
Im coming over from a Pixel XL, and I think the phone itself may be a bit slower than the Pixel XL was. Although negligible, I can tell a difference. I also noticed that it was clunky of 5ghz wifi, but worked fine over 2.6ghz. Not sure whats up with that, but downloading apps and navigating in chrome was very slow over the 5ghz.

Coming from an S7 , It is probably that your battery is causing this. The more you discharge your phone to 0-10% battery the faster your battery is going to die. You will see that your phone heats up faster/performance slower and charge much slower than before. My S7 is great after 1 year of usage , what i do is turn of fastcharge (fastcharge charges faster at an increased temperature but the s8 is probably more effecient at it ), charge at 50% or try to.
It is way too laggy, period. Lags all over the place. I'm getting mine rooted.
Which rom is best nowadays?
I used to be a real poweruser years ago when CyanogenMod was the **** but I'm uninformed the past 5 years so I need some guidance
Smooth
If u are experiencing lag I highly recommend u go to bootup mode and clear the cache on your phone. Do it 3 times just to be safe. Especially after an update. Totally gets rid of the stuttering. Also disabling any app that's using the acessabilty service speeds up any Android also.
I just ran a geek-bench on my s8+ and I am rooted on Verizon. Single core score 1853 and multi is 6261
thanks, it really fast
I'm running Batman ROM and have a geekbench 4 single core score of 2027 and Multi 6751. The device is even faster with a custom ROM.

There is LTE+ there (as well in my area in NY) and it's blazing fast.
I honestly don't quite understand how this phone can get such positive reviews of its speed and UI experience.
I've used or at least tested A LOT of phones this year, and the S8+ has probably been the slowest, most janky experience I've had on a phone - even when compared to budget devices like the Moto G5 Plus.
App launching, multitasking, scrolling smoothness, and excess heat have all been inferior to every other current gen phone I've used.
IMO, it could only be measured a success when compared to multiple-years old phones.
S8+/SM-G955F slower then LG D855 (G3)
I totally agree with CConn882,
My S8+ take 3-4 seconds to launch camera. Multi tasking is horrible too. I'll try out to clear the cache several times, but I think that will not help a lot. Only the fact there's no other device with that great screen holds me to the Galaxy S8+. I would love to use AOSP with all Samsung specific apps. (camera, video re-sizing, etc.)
Greetings Newtoir
does it lag over time?
This phone is horribly slow. Multitasking is sh*t and app opening animations are slow and laggy. Some apps takes seconds to open. My phone is original and bought from carrier. No junk apps installed. And it kind of a su*ks to keep an eye of what is installed in such an expensive device. Cleaning cache and junk does nothing and it starts lagging again in few hours.
I have used my zenfone 2 with 4 gigs of ram for a year and a bit, and it has been blazing fast! Recently, games have become unbearably laggy with long pauses. I have tried using marshmallow, nougat (Lineage os), i have done multiple things that should be good enough to get rid of a software bug, but still games run choppy. Im thinking its a hardware problem but i would really like someone to clarify it for me. i really want the speed back :crying:. However, the phone is still laggy within menus of the os, so dont blame it on some game porting bs.

Hi,
as the title suggests this smartphone is currently my top pick, i have a tight budget (120 euros/140 dollars); and the Le pro 3 sits comfortably at 116 euros shipped.
Would you recommend it? I have zero experience with modding but i'd like to learn; are the chanches of hard bricking it (x722) high? I would not be able to replace it for while.
Thanks!
At this price you can't get any better.
A few phones at this range might have a bet camera and the official support is almost non-existent, but it's beautiful, well-constructed, has good battery, a good community and it's super fast and smooth. Is runs everything without lags and the processor is equivalent with the ones of iPhone 6s Plus and Samsung Galaxy S7, 300€/400€ phones.
There are currently 13 Oreo ROMS for it and will surely be more, P included.
As long as you flash files compatible with x722, you will not brick it.
Normally, it costs 150€, so run for it. NOW!
P.S. I think you posted in the wrong place, maybe you can ask a moderator to move the topic.

My bad, i thought this was the right section, sorry.
It still worth it AS A FLAGSHIP.
why should be worth? you have a "OnePlus3" inside as hardware.
The right place would have been the questions and answers section.
Just make sure you use the ROMs for the x722 some are universal some are not if you stick with the le pro 3 elite x722 development section you'll be pretty safe as long as you're careful and read everything in the first post you should be OK just make sure and do a full backup in twrp and copy it to your PC in case of problems. If your unsure about something don't do it till you're certain you understand the guide. Good luck
Yes and no.
If you want a phone that just works then get something else. Yeah, the Le Pro 3 has better looks and internals than other phones but the software is never perfect.
Currently all Oreo Roms drain the battery pretty fast, battery life is still good but not outstanding anymore. Also there are always some other minor issues like a wonky signal, app crashes as so forth.
The Redmi Note 4 or Mi A1 are the obvious other choice. You're getting a more "stable" package but the phones don't feel as premium, the RN4 also has worse camera.

Ah ... bullcrap. What does it mean "Oreo..drain the battery pretty fast"?
In technical terms, I charge the battery in the range 20-85%, and this delta of 65% = 2,645 mAh.
That charge lasts me a week (my Nokia E71 would not last that long).
Standby discharge + some usage = avg. 0.5%/hr (20mA/hr), airplane mode overnite = 0.1%/hr (4 mA/hr)
Maybe A1 with Nougat lasts longer with smaller battery, than X72x with Oreo...
And the RN4? To beg the commies for letting me to unlock my phone?
Really?
At this moment, the X722s (X720s long gone) are disappearing from the [Chinese] warehouses, ergo the price went over $200,
but if one doesn't have to pay any duties/taxes ... it is still a bargain for this 2 years old phone. https://tinyurl.com/ydamcw9y

Hello, i bought this device couple of months back from amazon, ever since it first arrived it has been very laggy, now some of u may say its because of 2gb ram but i have used other redmi devices in the past which comprised of 2gb ram (redmi2 prime, redmi 5 and redmi 6) but this device is way way more laggy then them, and i dont even do any heavy use, im talking about switching between youtube and chrome, as soon as i do that the app restarts, all games are laggy, all apps are laggy, i switched to a custom rom (AOSP Extended) even that lagged so i reverted to miui 11 and hoped it might help but nope. even the camera lags, i just cant tell wether its some factory issue or what, does anybody else have this issue with the said device or is there any way to detect the issue? please dont comment with "its 2gb bruh what do you expect" i currently do have a redmi 5 and i kid you not its performing worse then that, the camera quality and all is fine even the gpu is good but theres just this weird lag, even opening my keyboard makes it lag. not minor lags, MAJOR MAJOR LAGS, Please help me with this issue, how to detect the issue? can i flash some kernel? can i claim warranty or something?
I have issues with WiFi/Bluetooth - as soon as i turn the Bluetooth on, WiFi speed drops dramatically and is unstable, had some mystery battery drain in the first month and now is gone, but performance is good enough

Arrow is the only decent one.
Feel free to try others too but you'll most likely find arrow the most functional one - practically no bugs , no drain during night , almost full touch polling rate ( is close to miui touch polling , but leagues ahead of other aosp roms , enable it in settings first ), has kernel profiles per app like benchmark, gaming, etc. , is overall the best.
The only issue is that this phone is utterly shet in the custom ROM scene overall ... If you use arrow as the best representative of what's available you see that certain parts are almost as good as in miui like touch polling ( Never as good as miui tho... ) , and those are only few , basic stuff like camera doesn't work , auto focus is nonexistent , some camera sensors do no load like macro and idk if any other one ... The picture quality is utterly shet... Unusable
Idk what to tell you... There's other stuff too like screen edges showing pixels, brightness not quite as bright as the panel goes in the miui... In a year or two's time maybe it'll get as good as miui lol But I'd honestly get a pixel if you're into developing scene ( Don't expect much in here , the situation is that it works, many roms to choose from but still leaves a lot to be expected and I don't even mean any custom features... Just the basic hardware that phone came with)
I 'm not sure what the guy on top said, but since Lineage officially supports this phone, it's gonna stay a long time into relevancy. Lineage (and LineageForMicroG) is the only option if you want clean pure AOSP android. GCam's also are many. We are talking about 120hz refresh amoled display with a great chip 870, which till that day is quite powerful and most of all, does not thermal throttle easy. Watch this youtube video to see for yourself! All in all this phone was a major step forward from the F1, which I come from and don't go into the ROM rabbit hole (been there done that). The only ROM that is relevant/stable/clean is Lineage.
EDIT: also you may just skip the current generation of qualcomm Gen 1 it has many issues, namely thermal throttling, battery draining etc.

I'd love to get a Pixel 6 but the battery life on it is disheartening comparing it with the 5a, Tensor isn't looking great.
Thank you for going in-depth friend, i appreciate it

I haven't used Lineage in ages, since 4 or 5 Androids ago, for how long is it supported by the devs?

I don't know the exact time but since my old mi 5, that i gave to my dad, is still receiving update (ffs this is a phone from 2016) I can safely assume it will be supported for many years to come.

I talked to dev and he basically threw his hands tryimg to fix stuff that isn't working.. He says he wanted to implement fixes that arrow has but was refused...
Touch is horrendous on lineage , it lags behind and gets stuck a lot in scrolling... These things you don't notice at first , you have to use it for a while in order to notice but when you do is a huge deal breaker.
Not even just scrolling... You notice micro stutter as you use the phone - micro stutters are fkin hell. I was happy with it at first only to have to uninstall within 1/2 hours when I noticed that touch just ain't working right
Don't bother getting this one is my take. You won't geg the features you paid for on aosp - touch polling , temperature , performance , battery charging speed ( You can charge fast forsure but other than arrow all other roms overheat to death during even regular charge speed - 40°C-50°C without anything open ) all is worse than the spec sheet...
My is not even year old but already falling apart ( Backplate lifting off from day one , charging port fkin cracked - the cheap metal they use for the phone frame cracked ... all of this on 0 major falls
Also don't think miui is any better. Bunch of restrictions, they basically hold you hostage and enable 60/120hz refresh rate as they see fit. Some apps like youtube/games are blacklisted and only allow 60hz refresh rate... Terrible thermal engine , that's the major ones at least. Everything else you can live with for the price point but the utterly lacking perfomance + restrictions on refresh rate and even touch polling unless you specifically tell it not to in certain apps are not worth dealing with.
I miss my old phone , I'd go back to my 60hz older gen phone rather than have a phone that jumps in between 60/120hz as it sees fit or the same deal with perfomance - throttling to hell with terrible performance under load

PixelOS is currently the most functional one i've tried between (ArrowOS, PixelPlusUI, crDroid, Lineageos). Has a few more features than ArrowOS and battery life is just a bit better
I am just happy with CrDroid
a lot of roms are decent and stable, but official doesn't mean perfect. close to stock, Los is a good Choice but a11. on a12, arrow os and syberia are great choices if you want aosp experience with little extra tweaks. for high customization, crdroid is a great choice (very active devs). I am currently on ancient os (not available on xda it seems) to be which has high customization and the smoothest ui and ux I've seen till now, ahead of the competition in this area IMO. it has updated drivers and vulkan renderer. has anyone compared last version of ancient with other custom roms in term of smoothness ? does anyone knows if any major rom switched to updated drivers or vulkan rendering as default?

How is the battery consumption on ancient os? How is the idle drain compared to other roms?

I have between 6 7 hours of sot in mixed use (Netflix, browsing, Spotify, 1hr call, 1hr gaming on parsec). idle drain is great, I lose only 1-2% at night with data disabled. At first I had some drain which disappeared after disabling some Google apps (auto, wellbeing, search, system intelligence...)

I use embedded kernels, I didn't try other kernels yet (it is already hard enough to find a stable rom XD)
In conclusion poco F3 is great phone for customizing ROM. So many great ROM option. I love my CRDroid 8.2 , it had some flaw but it almost perfect for my need. I believe you will also found the one ROM that suit u best. (Heck even miui derivatives are plenty for this phone)
