Trying to install twrp. Can flash it fine, but after reboot, device reverts back to stock recovery.
Understand maybe something to do with encryption because one time while I was in twrp- I could not do anything... Formatted data and was able to perform a back up within twrp and thought the problem was fixed.
Still reverting back to original.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks.

Allow it to modify /system and TWRP will take care of it. And this is the wrong section for these kind of questions btw.

I really hate to start a new thread but I really can't find a reason/solution to this issue. It's just as the title says. I tried flashing the MIUI ROM just as any ROM and got a failed error. Then went to do my nandroid restore and it just hangs on the splash screen (boot screen). Anyway I thought there could be a bad download so I took out the SD and redownloaded synergy on my laptop, then put it back in the phone and nothing but the nandroid should let me restore. I even tried moving the files to the internal SD and nothing. The only thing I can think of is to Odin back to stock? Is it the same method as rooting? I'm sure I can find that out, but I'm just confused why it seems TWRP doesn't want to work. Thanks for any help, it's 4 a.m. here and I'm dog tired.
Are you on the latest TWRP?
If all else fails you could go back to stock and root again.

Can I just reflash recovery from the state I'm in, or do I still need to unroot? I've moved some of my files to the ext SD within recovery but some things won't move and I really don't want to wipe it.

Do you mean reboot recovery? I can't reboot system. Sorry, not trying to split hairs, just trying to be specific.
Odin back to stock seems like the best option.

are you able to flash a different rom, say a stock rom? It's possible you got a corrupted TWRP download.
Since they just released another update 2.4.3, you might want to try and download the zip file, wipe cashe and davick (may want to do it three times). Reboot back into TWRP 2.4.3 and see if it gives you some better luck.
I've had Nandroid backup that didn't work for whatever reason. I didn't test it prior to needing it, and got burned. It just wouldn't show up in the restore menu.
On a side note, what error did you get when you tried flashing MIUI?
Try rebooting recovery when you are in recovery already once before flashing/restoring anything anything.

I tried multiple ROMs, but not a stock one. Hmm, I was on 2.3.2.3. I did'nt get a special error, just said a red message saying failed.

no, i meant reboot system, the recovery will warm you that there is no os installed but go fourth with it, it will turn off and reboot back to recovery. at that point in time, wipe cashe/dalvik cache and try to install.

Ok, I was'nt sure. I just went back to stock. I just wanted to know what exactly was going on and why.
The only thing different on my phone is I got a 32 gig SD card. I transfed some of my files a couple days before doing anything of this. That's the only thing I can think of. Even after root/unroot it STILL won't do my nandroid restore. I had so much time and work into the apps I set up, games, ect. Really freakin sucks. I even went into the the TWRP backup folder and made sure the backup files were there before doing anything. I never even got to flash many ROMs, I kinda just stayed on Jellybomb.
I had the uTorrent app installed and I noticed that it changed a lot of files with the "u" in front that the uTorrent app has. Anyone know why that is?

This is what it did to a lot of my files. But not the ones I tried to flash.

Was running SlimRom stable 7.8 and wanted to try out the Beta3. Wiped Dalvik Cache and Cache and installed on top. Booted fine, moved some files around and rebooted. Bootlooped once and got stuck on the Samsung screen. Pulled battery, booted into TWRP and wiped everything to restore the backup I made before all of this happened. It wipes, restores system and fails on /data. Can't wipe /data or internal storage because it is "Unable to Mount." No matter what I do I cannot mount, modify or access my internal storage and cannot delete or install anything to /data.
Googled and checked these forums half-hazardly for a solution but can't find anything specific to this phone. What happened to my internal storage? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Obviously the battery pull was where things went wrong, I'm just wondering if it's fixable. I can still boot into TWRP no problem and I successfully sideloaded an updated version of TWRP thinking that might help. Thanks in advance
Also, here is the recovery log I pulled right after I tried all of the above-
http://tinyw.in/3asR
I tried sideloading a ROM as well. It got to about 21% and then this showed up, failed to write data 'protocol fault (no status)'
It is fixable, you just might have to fully restore the stock firmware with Odin. If you can't flash another rom or restore a backup, i would just Odin it back to stock and start over. This will fix any corruption that may have happened to your partitions.

Ok cool, you're on the right track. If all else fails you can.also grab the stock firmware from here: http://samfirmware.com/, typing SPH-L900 in the search box, and flashing the firmware with Odin. Good luck, you'll get it fixed.
So...successfully install CyanogenMod and realized I need a mouse and don't have one handy so figured I would go back to stock. I download the stock firmware and sideloaded is successfully in CWM. System rebooted and now I am stuck on the "U" screen. It doesn't seem to be frozen cause it is changing colors like usual.
Installing Stock also overwrote the bootmenu. What should I do here?
problem solved.
Did some looking around the forums and found out the route I took, which was install stock via CWM won't work. Hooked up a keyboard and did the key combo to reboot to CWM. Reset user data and cache and rebooted.
Everything works now.
Hey chazz, so you are saying if I want to go back to stock, I need to boot to CWM and just reset user data and cache?
I am trying to do the same thing. I did a nandroid backup of my CM11 setup and was hoping to get back to stock so i could check out some of the game updates. Figured I could backup my stock and flip back and forth on a whim but when I get back to stock my Ouya cant connect to the internet whether it is on WIFI or ethernet. Any suggestions?
Never mind. I reset my gateway and set the date/time in the console and viola I'm connected.

You need to download a stock ROM and flash it in CWM just like any other ROM. Wipe all the the same ole same and flash the stock ROM.
I see. Well, that sounds correct. And do you also know, is it possible to remove custom bootloader (mlq or ep version) so I can boot straight into Ouya without seeing the bootloader menu?

When you flash the stock ROM the bootmenu will no longer show. It is however a very good idea, if you are going to stick with CM11, to leave it there. Bad things can happen and, in some cases, it is your only way of recovery.
Thanks for the info, kind sir.
So I was running CM11 M8 and restored back to stock(Root66) BNC1 on my T999L.Ever since that not one single ROM will boot regardless of which recovery I try to flash it with(CWM,TWRP,PhilZ,Multiboot).I can Odin back to BNC1(Root66 or Straight Stock) with no issues and the ROMS never give any error's while installing they just hang at the boot screen.I've tried factory reset with dalvik and cache after flashing as well and get nothing still. My phone works fine still no issues there just not able to sucessfully boot a flashed ROM.Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
How long did you leave it on the boot screen? It can take a while at times

Of course I waited. When I install CM 11 it was almost 30 minutes before I said screw it and restored my nandroid.
Have you tried factory resetting from stock recovery? It will wipe internal sd just so you know.

Yes I have also tried that Doc.
Try flashing another rom from recovery. Before trying to reboot, select Copy Log to SD. See if it has any clues. (It'll be towards the end of the file)
You can post it here if you can't find anything.
Aside from that, all I can think to try is flashing with Odin again and select re-partition.

Did that as well and looked at the log.Did another restore through Odin to complete stock then to Root66 and that seems to have fixed the issue...hmmm no idea what was wrong.
Sometimesbtheres just no good way to know the cause.
Glad to hear it seems to be ok now! For the next several flashes you do, just kerp an eye on how its acting and copy the log to sd each time, just in case. If it still is working ok after a few times it should be ok to go back to doing things like normal.
Hi! I was playing around with my phone and I might have wrecked it somehow. My twrp is password protected, which I have no clue what it is, and therefore can't install roms or restore backups. The phone is not booting into the rom no matter what I do either. Twrp boots everytime I power on my device.
Please help!
Flash stock image and stock recovery (and wipe cache). Then after if it will boot into OOS recovery just click "reboot now".
Were you able to get into twrp? The password is usually the one you set up for your login to andriod system.
If you can get in, then no need worry. i had exact experience last week. Just remember to clear both cache, system, and data. Just keep internal storage intact. Then try to flash stock rom without rooting.
See if you can get it.
The cause of having this issue may due to flashing rom without uninstallng magisk first.
Good luck.

The twrp password is known only to god because I've tried every pin/password I have ever used on all roms I've tried so far but none of them work. Which is why I can't flash any rom as my storage is encrypted. Most of the times I have a pattern lock set but that can't be mapped to a password can it?
I decided to start from scratch and installed stock recovery and then adb sideloaded first the stock Nougat OOS and then later 5.1.1 stock OOS, but both times in vain. Both times the phone gets stuck on the startup setup saying "just a sec", endlessly. On the very first activity it shows a message, that disappears in a few seconds, saying "Disabled or missing download manager. Can't download voice pack". How can I fix this? Help please.

I would fully wipe, then format, but make sure you have the contents from your storage backed up externally. This is the only way to insure there's nothing left over from previous flashes. And then sideload 5.1.1-full update, you should be good from there. I had the same issue after flashing a OOS custom build.

Formatting everything did the trick. I thought sideloading OOS would implicitly do that but I was wrong. Thanks a lot man! Now is there any way I can keep my device unencrypted going ahead? I don't want Twrp to ask me for a password when I'm booting it.
