Which TWRP are we supposed to use for Oreo ? - Honor 7X Questions & Answers

I installed the TWRP P10 Lite versions 3 &4 and while it flashes correctly and decrypts the system doesn't unmount.
I have read the thread for TWRP COMPLETE BACKUP which has 2 files to flash and it doesn't decrypt which is why I tried the P10 which everyone at the end of the thread is doing
I have already rooted and want to make a back up BND-L24

I tried that one and am still getting the system failed to unmount error. Is this because I already rooted with Magisk ? I tried a half dozen recoveries today and they all give me the same error

What is the TWRP version and SU version to successfully root Mate8 with Android 7

Hello
After I got the OTA update of my rooted Chinese Mate 8 AL10, I obviously lost root access, but luckily the update didn't wipe my data. I also had TWRP
Now I have Android 7 and EMUI 5. I recall there were different TWRP versions depending on the version of EMUI, whether it was 4.0 or 4.1.
So is there a specific version of TWRP for Android 7 running with EMUI 5? If yes, what is it? I tried searching with scarse results! I want to avoid boot loops and phone recovery.
Also, is there a specific version of SuperUser to flash?
Thanks

I have L09C432B560. I use the following twrp:
http://sillanwali.com/downloads/twrp-3.0.3.img
I boot into twrp, mount system and vendor then flashed the following patched boot.
https://mega.nz/#!Yx4h3LwL!XNdOjpo-J...j6opIqSemyqI80
I now have full root on my mate 8. Remember, this might not work with your phone. If you want to try it out you should be able to reflash the current boot.img of your phone if necessary.
If the above link does not work, try the link in #3573 or #3572 of the following page:

Hi
Official TWRP is 3.0.2.0 as per https://twrp.me/ and it doesn't seem to work on Chinese Mate 8 AL10 and EMUI 5.0. So I tried the TWRP version you mentioned and it does work up to a certain point. I mean I can successfully install it, and boot to TWRP, but it seems that it doesn't recognize any file system, even my data partition cannot be seen. Yet if I just reboot the phone, I can successfully see my data partition and my data.
Maybe this unofficial version still has problems and doesn't recognize the data partition because it is somehow encrypted? I really don't want to format the phone, I have loads of data I don't want to lose and taking a backup takes ages.
All I want now is to be able to see any partition that has the SuperUser.zip to flash. I really don't care about TWRP as much as I care of gaining root access. I still didn't try with an OTG key as I am travelling, but once I get back home, I'll try that, but if TWRP cannot mount the SYSTEM partition I guess then it cannot flash SuperUser.zip even with OTG...
Right?

This twrp cannot mount the data partition but you can mount the system partition and vendor. You then can flash the patched boot mention which also contain superSU that gives you root.. Do not use this twrp to format the data partition.

We are having the same issue with the Mate 9. Have a look the forums there as a lot of things are very similar up to this point. In emui 5 flashing SuperSU will put you in a bootloop. I'm sure KangVIP had a modded boot with root available for the Mate 8 that you guys can flash to have root. They do for the Mate 9.

You're right, this TWRP can't mount /data and you cannot use it to make a backup but it can perfectly flash system images.
If you flash this one https://mega.nz/#!Yx4h3LwL!XNdOjpo-JmTXCPXz5wcuSGzxtHLVyj6opIqSemyqI80 you will be rooted with phh's SuperUser/ OpenSource SELinux-capable SuperUser (https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software-hacking/wip-selinux-capable-superuser-t3216394).
For me this is better because it allows me to use YeloPlay, a Belgian Telenet TV watch program that doesn't work on rooted devices but now it does

So, yesterday I messed up my OP3 and wiped all partitions on my phone.

Installing full OOS rom from adb sideload using stock recovery, result= failed (* cannot read 'OnePlus3Oxygen_16_OTA_039_all_1701140133_03b794d8a8b44883.zip' *)

So twrp is working right?
Flash any rom say lineage os
Flash multirom by BitOBSessiOn
Flash multirom twrp
Flash oos as secondary rom
And then swap oos to primary rom
try with some other TWRP . May be v16 blu_spark
https://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/?id=15934#downloads
Ye sideboard gives me issues aswell, push the zip and manually flash it In twrp: "adb push romzipname /sdcard/", the file is now ib the folder /sdcard/.

Then it's a twrp issue. I'm currently in Bluspark v16 so
Error 7 in TWRP AFAIK is an issue with using an incompatible recovery, try the latest one 3.0.4-1 I think it is from this forum.

I flash twrp bluspark as @Puddi_Puddin suggested and flashing Freedom OS. After that, I restore my data using my last Nandroid backup, then the bootloop comes again. Tried it several times using TWRP Bluspark with different ROMs, still no luck. So I suggest, there's nothing I can do to restoring my phone's data.
I read across the XDA forums and Oneplus forums that some people had similar issues for me, and they suspected something's wrong about corrupted partition, not because twrp version. And I also had tried flashing a few ROM in the past using the same TWRP 3.03 version without any problems. Strange.
Anyway, problems solved, my phone's up and running.
CASE CLOSED.
Thanks XDA

[Recovery] TWRP 3.1.1 (unofficial)

I was looking for a TWRP for the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2. I've found a chinese board where a user called YouLinw compiled TWRP for us. According to him and the users there (Google Translator) it seems to work. Can't test it by now, because my Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 isn't shipped right now. It was really tricky to register in this chinese board and then to download the file. You can download it yourself in the board and for all other users I made a mirror with no registration.
There's now a new english TWRP from Xiaomi.eu.
I don't take any responsibilities for this file. If you break or damage your phone, it's your fault!
The recovery is in chinese - but you shuold be able to use it with screenshots in your language.

Installation:

Flash over Fastboot
Hope you like it.
Great find! Any idea what version of SuperSU can be used to root The device ?
In this chinese board there's something written like, that SuperSu 2.82 is suitable for the Mix 2 (without guarantee).

Can confirm, superSU 2.82 works on Xiaomi EU rom version 7.9.22
unable to mount /system after nadroid backup
TWRP installed fine and experienced no issues until I made a full Nandroid backup. After the backup I have issues flashing because the device is unable to mount /system . busy or in use error.
So now I wait until official TWRP.
If you are having any twrp issues just reboot into twrp and the issues will be gone. Try again!

For the life of me I cannot get this TWRP to do anything. My phone came with Global 8.5 Stable. I confirmed my bootloader is unlocked. I flashed the TWRP and booted it, it boots fine but trying to backup anything I get Failed to unmount "/system" (Device or resource busy). I tried to reboot back into TWRP still same problem, I tried to reflash TWRP through both fastboot and TWRP image installer. I downloaded the EU rom and tried to flash it and it also failed to flash. OEM unlock is checked, USB debugging is on. TWRP gets over written with the Mi Mix recovery whenever I boot back into system, it doesn't ask me if I want to modify anything when it first boots. Why is this giving me so much trouble I've never encountered this problem with TWRP. Any Advice?.
Thanks much

There is still no official TWRP available. I always do a full wipe factory reset and manual wipe everything before flashing anything. I also get the errors, but I've never tried to restore a backup because I usually just do clean installs each time because the ROMs available right now aren't stable enough for daily use.
The trick for EU rom is complete wipe than boot back into TWRP and try flashing. You will get 2 errors but will install fine. You can install USB drive or transfer EU rom through mtp via TWRP.
I'll do it like @allrockedout
It seems this TWRP is more beta than stable :-/
Also check the "Mount" button and uncheck the option to open all partitions readonly.
Then reboot TWRP. Last but not least before performing any flash operations (ROM or Magisk/SU-Stuff) check all partitions as marked - then do your flash work
i also miss some more partition that are available to other devices like EFS.
Did anyone know about another TWRP version or devs that are working on one?

I hope you can help me, I'm having similar problems too. I boot into TWRP, but the new Android 9 updates, I think, have everything encrypted. So rooting my Redmi Note 5 Pro has been really puzzling me all day. Because of the encryption, I can't access the internal storage where Magisk or SuperSU .img should be, unless I wipe all data, which removes the .imgs. Following the advice of some other threads, I have tried rebooting TWRP from itself and then flashing a TWRP.img to flash but I can't find it anywhere either. I tried adb sideloading and adb pushing but I can't get my computer to detect my phone when its in recovery. Thought I'd ask here before making my own thread

Its advisable to use TWRP backup of your phone, as I was trying to do that for some of my friends, but the backup contains my own Mi account, which i was unable to get rid off.

log out your mi and google account first, do a factory reset and then make a full twrp backup then upload it here for the sake of humanity (and of course if u need it to restore back if u bricked your phone)

Try this one
- Download the file (https://mega.nz/file/KV8TwaCD#6AtUchMlgzKrjoWJY2aM8CZQjvBb0nu-LFIyky46NCo)
- Copy it to /sdcard/ota/
- Rename it to update.zip
- Dial *#*#1027#*#*
- Click local update
- Once completed restart
- If it says to format data after restart, please do so.
- After that install TWRP
- Boot into TWRP and then install magisk
- Start the phone and then restart again into TWRP.
- Install magisk GApps (https://mega.nz/file/PBllSIDb#uSD2U5WdY-9KpbfU0YRLm1SuQ25uPfAilUFDTgG3IiM)
- Start the phone and enjoy
Remember to backup your data. I am not responsible for bricking your device so please do it at your own risk.

OTA cannot be flashed via TWRP. You have to use the process described above.
