LineageOs for Odys Next - LineageOS Questions & Answers

I've got an old Odys Next Tablet, I'm sometimes using just as an EBook reader. But the EBook apps, I was running, don't work anymore on the device's old system (Andoid 4.0.3). I tried to find a Lineage OS ROM. But I didn't find neither an official nor an unofficial one. Do you know one or any other way to use it as an EBook reader?

I don't have this device but, i really doubt that there's a LineageOS Firmware for it (though I have been surprised before).
The following threads are probably your best bet in locating anything for this device.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=988740

The first thread is closed because the 2nd thread is a continuation for it.
I had provided you with the link in case it has some type of information/links that may be of use to you.

If you look at the last Official LineageOS Changelog Blog...
https://www.lineageos.org/Changelog-14/
...you'll notice the following information regarding the change in the LineageOS download directory:
Major changes since August 8th
LineageOS Updater app has been rewritten. Previous issues with downloading updates should be gone now
Downloads are now stored at:
/data/lineageos_updates/
I hope that answers your question...

I may be a bit more experienced than many members but, I've had those "NOOB" Moments too.
I can only recommend/suggest for members to check out the Changelog/Blogs, from time to time, to see if anything new has been posted.
The Lineage folks, typically, post new ones every 30-60 days but, I've read past ones purely to take note of them.

Worst-case scenario, (and I've done this) in the OTA screen, after downloading the update you can long-press on it, then tap the disk icon that appears; it'll copy the update to the SD card. Makes it much easier to find. Would be nice if the downloader would just put it in the root folder anyway...

Unified Storage - All in one instructions requested

After much reading on LVM / Coldbird method, and many days of googling both and reading through different methods to unify the storage on a Find 7, I've found that a lot of the threads have no links to required files or have dead links.
With the loss of the OPPO Forums site, does anyone have a step-by-step for either method, along with all required files (other than preferred ROM)?
Thanks.

Unify using coloros. You should be able to download coloros from oppo community at http://community.oppo.com/id/forum.php?mod=oppo_viewthread&tid=5270.
You will have lvm. Then flash anyrom that supports lvm (omni).

Thanks to all. Now up and running with Nameless ROM. A bit disappointed with battery life on this phone though, but it appears to be a common problem.

I have the problem that the programm does not detect my phone (installed usb driver).
I skiped this step and used coloros 2.1.5 and it does not work ;(
Dou you have an idea what i can do ?
Thanks
I still love my Oppo find7a, although it's getting harder and harder to use it. (ColorOS version: V2.1.5i without unified storage)
I would like to use the coldbird method to unify the storage and then install LineageOs 16.
After many days of googling, I have not found any active link.
Does anyone still have a working link to download this partitiontool?
Does anyone still have this file on his own local PC?
I would also be willing to take care of a new possibility for hosting the file, if this file is made available to me.
I´m not sure which one you mean but i have also some lvm patches found on my harddrive. Sadly i doesn´t found the offical links anymore. Maybe the txt-File will help you found some sources for your questions, because i safed some links there which i used for customized my own oppo find 7.
Best wishes.

Installable APKs for Lineage OS stock apps?

Hi
Is there anywhere to get installable versions of the lineage stock apps without using lineage OS? I like some of their app versions but I prefer to keep my daily driver phone on the stock ROM for now.
Thanks

https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/lineageos/
That website is a very reputable place also.

It's a very good place for obtaining these types of apps as well as apps from the Google Play Store (the non-paid ones of course) for those who are unable to obtain them via the Play Store app.
I do know that there's an Unofficial APKMirror app on the forum (there's no Official one released at this time).
EDIT: The following thread is the one for the Unofficial APKMirror app...

LineageOS 15.1 update and support

Hello,
I don't find the answer to my questions on the internet... I wished to know for how long is 15.1 version supported (I don't have any updates for several months, it only suggests to upgrade to 16 version...). Can I keep it even if there are no updates ? Second question : if I install 16 version it will erase all my apps (my Fairphone is encrypted too). Thank you for your answers because it is difficult to have any from LineageOs website...

I can only answer in "General" terms...
Answer to your 1st Question:
Yes. One of my devices actually has LineageOS 13.0 still and another has LineageOS 14.1 as well. I, personally, only use the older versions on those for testing purposes but, they do work for me.
Just remember, when it comes to using the older LineageOS versions, your not going to actively receive any security updates (and such) to the firmware. Even though I use the older versions myself, I've got to keep this in mind as well.
Answer to your 2nd Question:
Yes/No/Maybe. It's a challenge to explain but, I'll do what I can.
Yes, you can Upgrade/Migrate from one "Official" LineageOS build to an upgraded build. The LineageOS 16.0 is "supposed to" work this way by design.
Regarding the encryption, I'm not stating that this is for all devices but, I've seen allot of members having various issues when performing LineageOS Upgrades on encrypted devices.
So, before you do so, be sure to backup whatever you can and, as always, keep in mind to "hope for the best but, prepare for the worse".
It's "only" recommended/encouraged to perform a fresh installation when upgrading to a newer Android version for a few reasons (ie... Incompatible Android Apps and such).
I hope I had explained this okay via text...
Good Luck!

Unless asked to do so, PLEASE don't PM me regarding support. Sent using The ClaRetoX Forum App on my Apple Macintosh.
Thank you for your answer ! I just installed LineageOs 16 et it works fine (even the encryption). It didn't erased anything ! Have a good day

Any way to try out LOS without installing it on a phone ?

Hi
I have a Honor 5X (kiwi / KIW-L21) as my daily driver and as its nearing the end of it warranty (2 years) its starting to run slower (good job, Huawei). Given this and the fact that during these two years i never received ANY update apart from an update to android 6.0.1 from android 5, im considering switching to LOS 16.
The thing is im completely new to custom ROMs, recovery, phone rooting and that jazz and im a bit scared.
I wanted to know if there is a way I can try out LOS 16 (say for example on a VM) to be sure that i like it before installing.
If not, would I be able to restore my phone back to its current OS in case i dont like LOS and want to fall back to EMUI ?
PS : I wanted to try it out on an older phone I have and for which i dont care as much, but its not supported :'( Its an Asus Zenfone go ZB552KL
Thanks in advance !
The oldphone approach is a good idea. Go to a recycling place and grab some old Motorola or Samsung phones. Broken screen is OK.

My local trash collecting place isn't very open to people who want to take stuff (yes, what a nonesense) but i'll try that i guess. The thing is we have like 3 or 4 old phones but none of them are listed as compatible on the LOS website

You don't need official. Search XDA and you will find unofficial lineageOS for many old phones. https://twrp.me/Devices/ is a good place to find the phone's code name. With that you can check stats.lineageos.org for popular ROM versions.
Will give it a look, thanks.
If nothing usefull comes out of this investigation and I end up doing it on my 5X, is there a way for me to backup the whole phone (i mean not just data, like the whole OS) that way I can fall back to its current state if something goes wrong / i dont like LOS ?

To be honest, there's various ways for backing up a whole device but, there's limited (possibly no) choices that all depends upon the device itself and the capabilities of said device. So there's no real way of answering this question without, also, taking under consideration that what works for one may/may not work for another.
With that stated...
I've always found that the only way to know if I like something as huge as updating the Custom Android version Firmware, is to "Hope for the Best and Prepare for the Worse".
I've been successful with Restoring TWRP Backups made but, have always had an (approximately) 50% +/- of a restoration working without any issues (a chance of requiring a fresh installation in the end).
In another words...
The only "recommended" way to upgrade/downgrade the LineageOS Android Versions is to make sure you have everything on hand for performing a fresh installation for both the upgrading and the downgrading of both Android Versions.
For anyone to guide you any other way should (ethically) be able to provide you with guidance in case something goes wrong in the process (of said guidance) with your specific device.
You should also ask for support and guidance within the LineageOS thread and, if needed, somewhere within the Device Dedicated Area of the forum that's specific to your device. This will help locate assistance from those who has your device as well.
For example...
[ROM][9.0.x] LineageOS 16.0 Official (kiwi) [NO VoLTE] by BadDaemon
[ROM] [9.x] LineageOS 16.0 Pie Unofficial for Honor 5x (kiwi) by coldhans
https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-5x
I hope that I had explained this okay via text...
I wish you the best of luck!

Hi there, thanks for the answer and sorry for the delayed reaction, I was busy
I will investigate on the linked threads and see what I want to do after that. My main concern being fingerprint sensor gestures (I know, stupid habits lol) asking on the kiwi forum is definitely a good idea. Same things for installing TWRP and the recovery, someone there would probably be able to help.
Thanks a lot for your time
