997/987 px5 4gb android 8 with physical buttons - MTCD Android Head Units General

Do you know if there is any manufacturer that puts current px5 system in correct dimensions for porsche 987 and has physical buttons for at least power and volume?

No
But you could use a METRA kit to adapt Porsche to Double DIN and use a Universal Double DIN PX5
The problem here is which functionalities of the Porsche you want to control from the Headunit. Usually SWC controls could be used diretly on universal units without canbus...but if SWC signals are coded probably you have to purchase the Canbus for a Porsche Cayenne that could be compatible.

2din plate it is. Anyway I found out that all units "made to spec." are black, but center console is silver and 2din kit luckily is also silver so it will look better.
I know about canbus for SWC, but i want to be able to really turn off unit with button, I don't trust android os enough to work with all this. And I also don't have steering wheels with stereo controls

I have the 8" screen (7.1.2) with no buttons made by Isudar in my 987.1 and i was concerned about not having buttons too since I don't have steering wheel controls. So far the only thing that is still bothering me is lack of physical volume control. Even though my center console is Volcano gray the black face plate really doesn't look bad as there is enough black bits around the dash area that it works. If you still don't like it you can remove the face plate easily to paint it, and you might want to anyway because...the lower right pin hole in the face plate is actually a mute (short press) and power (long press) button if you stick a paper clip in it. That's annoying, so I took the face plate off and made a small button that sticks through the hole. The left side pin hole is a built-in mic.

PDA2k Loose Stylus

Folks:
My PDA2k stylus has become too loose and I am starting to drop it everywhere: my pockets, my car, etc. In all likelihood, if I don't find a solution pronto, I'll be using my fingers because of a lost stylus.
Is anyone out there having this problem? How do you deal with it?
Thanks in advance.
Fernando
my XDA2s is getting worse, its 2 months old and gets used, give it another month and i be needing to get a big big box of replacement stylus's
Stylus problem? no problem.
Hey guys!
I'd just leave the regular stylus in my MDAIII and I went and got these check it out : http://www.truetip.com
They have all kind of stylus stuff that may can work out for you. I bought a few  of each and I hardly every use the one in my unit. I hope this helps, Take care fellas!
I've just encountered this problem and went the "Classy" way with my solution.
Magic tape wraped twice around the top of the stylus. Fingers crossed I'll have no more retracing my steps fun looking for a missing stylus.
hmmmn just put (stick) small neoprene inside the hole (opening)....

expansys.com has a lot of different kinds of stylus for PDA2K or similar. there are regular and with pen included.
expansys has offices in diferents countries. check yours.

Leave it in for service, it's the only way that HTC will understand that they need to go up some notches on the Hardware quality.
There is no way I'm taping anything on a 1.000,-$ unit
Mine is headding for service once more in the near future.

Good point. This thing cost more than my old car. Just whilt we're on the topic of hardware that was clearly not tested thoroughly before it as marketed, does anyone else's sliding mechanism scratch the keyboard?
yep on the left hand side. and i hardly ever use the keyboard so its not down to wear and tear.
to be honest the xda2s does feel cheap when its on your hand.
scratch on the left side of keyboard... hardly used the keyboard though...
and a gap between the lcd and battery slider on the right hand side...
I fixed mine with a single layer of tape around the top of the stylus. Now just enough grip to hold on.

Mine went back to the O2 service centre on Sunday! The slider was never right from the day I got it (this one was my second) and I lost a stylus the other day. The sliding keyboard was so far away from the chassis I could see daylight through it!
I also had the "wear" makes on BOTH sides of the keyboard and the Sales assistant said that they ALWAYS get those on every unit they get back, which I'm told is quite a few!
I'm waiting on a response from them as I suspect as before, they will just give me a brand new one. Anyway, I'm thinking of Ebaying the XDAIIs and getting myself an Orange c550/Qtek 8200 (HTC Robbie) Smartphone as I'm not impressed with the build quality compared to the XDAII/IIi!
We'll see!

Loose stylus - Stylus falls out
I dropped my BA 5 meters onto a concrete floor. It landed on the corner and bent the corner in. I just picked it up and it still worked. I use it in a industrial enviroment so it looks ugly, but always works. My old Ipaqs couldn't handle a one meter fall onto carpet without cracking the screen.
Oh yeah! Here's the fix to the original problem on this thread. It's really a easy fix. It's been 5 months since I lost a stylus.
-Back up your data.
-Remove the cover you will find a small tab in the stylus channel intended to engage the notch cut into the stylus. Gently push the tab back into the stylus channel so that it will engage the stylus notch once again. Be careful if you push it too far it will break.
-Slide the stylus into the channel to verify that the tab again engages the stylus notch.
-Remove the stylus again.
-Apply a small dab silicone sealant (available at any hardware store) behind the stylus retention tab. This is the "V" shaped area between the tab and the case. Be sure to fill this entire area. When the silicone has cured it will become a spring with much better position memory then the original plastic tab had on its own.
-If your corner is bent straighten it now(see above)
-Reassemble BA
-Allow 24 hours for the silicone to cure before inserting the stylus into the channel.
I believe this is more then a repair, it is an upgrade!
Good Luck,
N2O2
The Low-Tech Way
I crammed a little wad of paper into the area between the case and the little plastic spring. Works like a charm!

XDA IIs Parts / front buttons

Well, I never wrecked a phone yet - then I invest in an XDA IIS and spill red wine on the front keys (4 app keys and joystick thing) - after only one week.
Luckily I'm pretty handy with the ol' "spanners" and was able to take it apart and clean it out.
What I did find out though was that contact cleaner doesn't mix too well with the silicone inserts behind the buttons. Some have since hardened and the joystick one has a small tear.
All is working ok, but i've had a few dodgy buttons from time to time.
I want to replace these and probably just replace the boards behind the buttons as well. (One small narrow one for the 4 app buttons, one larger one for the joystick thing)
Anyone know if parts are readily available ??? (I'm in Australia)
PS : is there a proper term for the ''joystick thing" ??
Thanks.[/b]
Wow - I have almost the exact same story. Always careful with PDAs, managed to spill rum on my front buttons. Buttons would then fire off randomly (well, the hang up and down buttons would). Opened it up, cleaned it and the PDA now works again, but the Up and Right buttons don't work.
So yeah, spare parts would be great

Has anyone changed their housing on the Artemis?

I'm curious to know if you can get it back together with all the seems as tight as when it was new. I want to get a new case off ebay but I want to know if there's problems with if fitting together again after it's been disassembled.
I was able to do it. It came out pretty good but I did slightly bend the metal edge of the new frame when I had to reopen it to align the reset button cover. But it's so slight, no one would ever be able to tell but me. All in all, it wasn't too bad, but it was just nerve racking having your $500 phone ripped apart and wondering if it will work when you put it back together - if you can get it back together. I was so relieved when I got the WM screen again!
A few pieces of advice:
For one, the instructions I read just said to disconnect the ribbon cables. Well it doesn't say that all you have to do is flip up the little plastic part to release the tension from the ribbon. (figured that out the hard way)
Also, make sure the rubber covers for items like the mic and reset button line up before you resecure the board to the frame. You DON't want to have to reopen it.
My phone will now stay covered with an excellent silicone cover made by Boxwave. The cut-outs are precision - you can get to everything. Also, it fits nice and tight like a glove. And it's just thick enought to protect, fit in the carrying case, and allow you to use all the buttons easily, especially the scroll wheel. (my last cover was too thick to use it with the cover on) I don't want to have to do this surgery an my phone any time in the near future so this is staying on my phone.
Problem when change housing
Yesterday I've change my M700 housing with P800. But as we know, they have different button map.
Now, I am trying to set up a hotkey for the Call button (Green button),
ie, when I press the call button, an application of my choice would
start running. For that I need to change the default settings in the
registry of the Pocket Pc. Could someone tell me where the default
settings of the call button is stored in the registry and what all
values should I change in the registry so that I can setup the call
button hotkey. Any help would be highly appreciated.
Why not just download hbutton and map as many programs as you like to the other available buttons? I've got like 12 prog mapped to 5 buttons.
Edit: Oops. I missed the point of your post. The buttons are mapped differently.

[Q] S4 Mini ease of use

Hello
I'm looking for a mid-range phone to upgrade to (currently using Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo) and the S4 Mini looks really good for a mid-budget phone. But my question is, how easy is it to handle this phone, physically? I'm a telecommunications equipment fitter, my job involves a lot of hanging upside-down in broadcasting towers, and I wouldn't exactly want to drop a phone from at least 30 meter height. (which also means, no BIG phones for me)
Thanks.

There are four hardware issues:
1) The back cover is quite slippery. You can add some grip with a bit of tape.
2) No notification led, so you'll need to look at the lockscreen to see if you missed something. Maybe someone will make a mod to use the menu/back button backlight as notification light?
3) Volume keys on the left side, which is great if you're left-handed but not if you're with the right-handed 90%. Because the power button is right on the other side it's very easy to press by accident when you're adjusting the volume. Samsung should move the power button to the top of the phone in future models.
4) No lanyard hole, which may be a big issue when you're playing Angry Birds upside down on a broadcasting tower. You can run a lanyard through the camera and led flash holes. I pulled a camera wrist strap through them and it fit really well.

Holes on edge of bezel?

Does anyone know what the holes on the bezel are for?
There is one about an inch away from the volume buttons, and one off center on the left side if the volume buttons are off. Are these microphones?
Note, I'm not asking about the hole to eject the micro sd card...
Thanks,
Joe
They are probably mic holes.
So the Tab S4 specs say it has "far field microphones" with the plural, I guess that's the two side-holes. Supposed to work with Google Assistant "out of the box". I'm not really sure what this means or how to take advantage of it. It will be interesting to see how much they are interfered with by the case I ordered.
Joe
As above said, those are microphone holes, never poke them.
Multiple microphones are used to make the device hears you better and to record video/audio in stereo.
