What does custom version in about settings mean? I used firmware finder a week or two ago to and noticed there was an update my phone wasn't telling me about for D001. Authorization kept failing a few times and then finally worked. I have a US Honor 7X bought from Amazon BND-L24. Build number was B150 but i noticed that extra section now that says custom version : CUSTC567D001. What is this? Is it because I used firmware finder? I honestly don't remember if it was there before I tried to update to D001.

Guys i recently ordered an Asus Zenfone 2 Deluxe from a Chinese retailer. Obviously because the phone was the Chinese or Taiwanese Version they rooted the device and installed a WW Firmware before shipping it to me. The Version i have is 2.19.40.18 but the battary life is really bad. I realised all this when i tried to search for firmware updates but there is no way to search from the settings menu and the OTA Solution doesn't seem to work because i don't get a notification to update.
ADB doesn't work either because the 3 PCS i installed all the necessary drivers on, i couldn't get them to correctly recognise the device.
Anyways, i just want to be able to update the device to the latest WW software version, i don't care about the root if i will loose it because i don't use the device as a superuser.
What do you advice?
Same situation here. I have the same software version (both on device and in recovery). I also want to update the sofware but OTA option is unavailable in the SOFTWARE INFORMATION MENU, I tried manually but it doesnt work. I dont even know the root method used by seller so I dont know how to unroot, neither will unroot make manual OTA possible.
Please help someone.

Had the same problem. I unrooted, flashed stock latest firmware and now I have system update option.
I used this threads for guide:

Hi, I bought an honor 7x in december, it came from China, and the sellers changed the software version from BND-AL10 to the one from Europe BND-L21, I had upgraded my phone once using firmware finder, but I´m a little nervous about doing the big upgrade, I don´t know if there will be any problem because of the version change.
Also, I haven´t recieved any official upgrade, I don´t if it´s because of that or because of my country (I live in Mexico), I´ll appreciate your help
I'm in the same boat. I was wondering if it would be better to flash the AL10 or L21 version of Oreo.
Worst case scenario, I can just choose to wipe the device and flash the AL10 version from scratch for Treble.
The upside, as I just recently found out, is that the bootloader comes unlocked already. It's pretty fortunate considering that they took down the website to unlock the bootloader.

Yes I know want too
Well, I used Firmware Finder to download the Oreo update and, to my surprise, it worked perfectly. I went straight from B101 to the newest version. After updating I formatted the device and installed phh's GSI, and it's working great.

Hi Ahmad, just curious. Where are you based and which if the 2 options did you consider to download the firmware and also did the checking firmware access mention it is not approved for your device or was it approved. Thanks for your feedback in advance.
My experience as mentioned by someone else in the forum was that it is not approved and hence even after downloading the files it didn't get installed.

I'm from Canada, and I chose the second-last option for 8.0 on the L21-C432 section of Firmware Finder. It said it was approved, although in the past when I tried updating even if it was approved it didn't work.
Thanks bro. Appreciate the prompt response. Guess I will just have to wait till my turn comes in India
I am using a BND-L24C567B150 model. On 30th April my phone received the oreo update. I downloaded the file but when I tried to install it my phone went to reboot but once its back on nothing changes. I again tried to update the software by using 'Download latest full package' option. This time my phone downloaded a smaller file than before and once it installed and rebooted nothing changed as before.
Please help me as I know very little about android phones and don't know what to do to get the oreo update.
Thank you.
you sure it didnt work have you actually checked the version in about phone? you say you dont know much about android and oreo didnt change anything visually, only way to know is looking at the version.
i checked, its still running on the old os..
i dont think you received the oreo update. you must have received the face unlock update. to see if you truly received the oreo update get huawei firmware finder from the store and see if your device is authorized for 8.0, if it says not authorized for installation it means you didnt receive the 8.0 update as your device isnt even authorized yet.
Hi everyone. I just purchased 2 weeks ago a Mi mix 2 8/128 GB special edition. Upon checking the about phone in the settings, it's still on Android nougat and MIUI9. I tried to check an update thru the updated but unfortunately, there's no available update. I've learned that android oreo and miui10 were already rolled out a long time ago to mi mix 2 devices. I'm just wondering why I'm still not having this update via OTA?
I've already downloaded the miui10 package and tried to update using local upgrade. But it failed. Currently, I don't have any knowledge on flashing roms that's why I haven't tried those steps. Also my bootloader is still locked.
Sometimes this happens when your phone has a non official ROM installed. Only way to upgrade is unlocked bootloader and mi flash tool. (Afaik)

Where did you purchase the phone from?
Some time ago I loaded a firmware onto my VZW S8+ (G955U) which I thought was a legitimate firmware. However, I've never been able to update the phone since. The firmware that I loaded was CRE1 and since loading that, no OTA updates have occurred and even trying to use the VZW update tool, I get an error saying no update for that firmware or something to that effect.
I assume that I would need to flash back to a base version 8 firmware and then see how things go from there but I haven't been able to locate a base v8 firmware - assuming that is the direction I need to go.
Can anyone advise? The phone is not rooted. I did see one other similar thread with CRE1 firmware from 2018 - I can try downloading the closest firmware to CRE9 that I can find, which is CRK9, and see if I can get it to load.
Other suggestions/ideas are welcome!
[UPDATE]
So I essentially followed another post here and using Odin 3.13.1 I loaded CRK1, the oldest I could find that was near CRE1, and the phone came back up and pretty much immediately notified of an OTA update. About 12 or so OTA updates later and I'm at the current OTA release.
I'm having the same issue. I bought a VZW S8+ (G955U) from eBay Seller mistyelectronics that was supposed to be new in box. It has never updated since I received it almost a year ago. It stuck on Software Version G955USQS5DSE5. Any insight or advice to go the same route? I used Odin years ago. Where would I look for the files to load to the phone?
I appreciate any help you can give.
