[Q] Uk customer service help

Hi all my girlfriend has(had) a DHD and it developed a problem where it wouldn't charge and couldn't even turn on with power cable plugged in. (flashing green indicator light)
Anyway she sent this obviously faulty phone off the htc and after a week got a phone call saying that the phone has water damage and they will do noting for her. When she rang them up they told her would she like them to dispose of it for her (WTF?) anyway she said that there is no way she could have damaged it with water and they said they will send proof that it has water damage (still waiting for this)
I'm guessing they are going to show a picture where one of those moisture stickers have changed colour and state that this means it has been damaged by water. I would be very interested to know if any of your phone water damage stickers have changed colour?
I have had a touch pro 2 and touch hd and I'm pretty sure one of them showed the moisture sticker had changed even though I had never got it wet and it worked fine for the year or so I had them.
Does anyone have any advice on forcing HTC to honour their warranty?
(oh she was told on the phone that a single drop of rain could cause this to happen !?! A phone that breaks after being hit by a single drop of rain doesn't sound like it is fit for purpose to me, what do you think?)
:=)
good luck (hope this works out positive for you both).
to the single drop of water: hope it doesnt. ;=) but with really bad luck, maybe possible on such a high end device. -> good luck once again
owned a defy before this, so hopefully i dont forget its not a defy anymore
btw. if u dont want a fragile phone, get a defy, if u wanna flash everything, stay with htc ;=) (bricked my defy :=/ on flashing)
I think your probably on to a lost cause with this, HTC are going to claim that as the stickers have changed colour it has been water damaged and refuse to honour any warranty claim.
If you are adamant that it has not been in contact with water, an option maybe to get an independent electrical engineer to assess the device and produce a report showing it has not been water damaged, which you could then use to force HTC to honour the warranty, the drawback with this is how sure are you of the source you purchased the DHD from? is it possible it had been exposed to water before you received it?
I don't know where I read this but apparently others have had this happen. The little sticker that indicates water damage can and does sometimes change color without direct contact with water.
I tried to Google but could not find it though sorry.

[Q] Nexus 5 lcd + digitizer with front frame [LG service center killing N5]

:crying:
Please read this lengthy post: Summary, what happened earlier and how I recovered.
My nexus 5 got water damaged. Then I searched XDA threads for water damage repair.
As threads suggest in XDA not to power on device, so I did not turn on the device.
Then I opened up device as it was shown in ifixit.com and I bought toolkit for opening nexus 5. I separated every component except LCD+frame.

I used hair drier for removing water, after separating each components as shown above. But did not used hair drier for front case (front case: LCD+frame). Then I used rice for soaking excess water from each component (except LCD+frame i.e. front case). And kept my LCD with frame under ceiling fan.
Next day I connected all components, and powered on device.
I can say proudly that I recovered my nexus 5 from water damage
It is working perfectly, I checked CPU-Z app for sensors are working are not. Everything is working perfectly. Device is working perfectly but screen got damaged with water. Some lines was formed on screen. XDA thread suggested that screen is damaged you have to replaced. I used that device for 7-10 days with water damaged screen. Like this in image.
Then I searched for screen replacements in India. Amazon is not supplying or shipping to India. So I have choice only for the LG Service Center.
Then I tried opening LCD which glued to the front housing, I searched for this on YouTube. LCD got removed with that video help. And I tried to remove water from LCD. As seen in video, some paper was in there. I tried with soft towel gently (comes with scratch guard, same as disposable towel).
But something got wrong with that technique. Removed each paper like thing in LCD and removed water from it with soft towel. After that I put that paper like things back in there. But after powering on device, screen got damaged the earlier image was not clear and showing some blurry and lines was created of different color. May be the connection while removing paper like thing got damaged. But device was working perfectly. So I opened the device again and tried to solve this issue. But the issue does not solved and LCD got damaged. Next day alarm was ringing loudly but I cant snooze it or stop it, because nothing there on screen and touch even not working (guessing the dots with pattern lock and snoozing location on screen.)
(I am from India, I will mail this whole issue with Google also.)
I don't remember now whether I set up 2 alarms, wake up alarm was there and evening alarm was there 18.00 (I got to know this when that 18.00 alarm was ringing). So last option was going to LG Service Center and replace screen. I went there, showed up N5, told that it got damaged with water and tried removing with myself device was working, but screen got damaged. They told me screen replacement cost with front housing with damaged antenna cost (rs 8051 ). I agree to proceed replacement. I heard my mobile was ringing loudly not in front of me. I don't know why they wasted 15 minutes from when I heard the ring. After replacing everything (not in front of me.). They told me that "Screen is not showing anything, there might be motherboard problem. You need to replace motherboard also". I was totally shocked with there comment. I told them "Motherboard is working fine, I used this mobile with damaged screen around 7-10 days". They told me if your mobile is in warranty ask for hardware (motherboard). I think they are totally stupid service provider, who don't know anything about repair. Morning it was ringing as wake up alarm was set up earlier. And there was just LCD problem. They should replace only LCD and front housing.
I bought nexus 5 (32GB) from Google play store for 32999 rs (India). I don't know whether hardware policy applicable for it and specially for India. But got 1 year warranty with it. But I "rooted" my device running "stock rom (4.4.4) with TWRP recovery" and installed "xposed installer". I think hardware policy is gone as boot loader is unlocked.
May be their LCD was not working which they replaced with my n5's LCD. After leaving the service center, on evening alarm was not ringing at 18.00 as earlier it was used to ring. I tried charging my mobile and next day evening still alarm was not ringing. I think they replaced my motherboard with faulty one or they deleted alarm after replacing screen. I will definitely mail this issue with Google.
My questions starts from here:
Before answering it please read above scenario:
1. How do I find my hardware is working or not?
2. How can I check they replaced my hardware with their faulty hardware or not?
3. Where I can buy new LCD + Digitizer with front housing?
4. Is Google provides replacement (with cost) for LCD + Digitizer with front housing?
5. Can Google provide replacement for my motherboard? Is it in warranty as per Google?
6. Where I can complaint about LG service center to Google?
7. How I can recover my files from nexus 5?
(I usually cut paste all the things, but this time I forgot to do so and this is costing me big.)
8. How can I check other components are working fine or not?
9. Anyone from India opened up device for fun, can you check my nexus 5 with your screen? I will be thankful to you. (Mumbai, India). Please message me in.
Buying new mobile is not solution, as I said above "it is working fine only screen problem" all that before going to LG service center. My important data like some photo and pdf, doc, ppt files. How to get that back. I know that I can replace screen but from where, and who will give me his N5 LCD for testing my device?
I know this is not what you wanted to know but google does provide a one time RMA for water damage or physical falls. This is the source i kinda missed the xda thread

I think you never read post before replying, read the post and then give your knowledge.
So, your post does not seem to be replying.
But I will still reply, yes my phone got damaged by water not by me, I successfully recovered from it, I did damaged the screen, and screen replacement is the only option for me (my damage cost me). What I will complaint about Google that the LG Service Center is saying that motherboard is also damaged and it should be replaced also.
But in my case, after recovering from water damaged everything is working perfect and still now, only the screen has got damaged. So they are giving me wrong service, so I wanted to complaint the Google, but now I will complaint LG Regional Office. Thank you.
Please read post and then reply. This will really help you to understand the problem.

Well, be prepared for Google and LG to agree with the repair center. I once had an Apple store refuse to repair a water damaged screen because they said the motherboard was also damaged, even though the phone worked perfectly fine aside from the damaged screen. If the water damage indicator is tripped, you know they are going to say the board needs replaced.
Maybe YOU should reread your post and point out the parts where you are trying to be self entitled.

I did not get your last point/sentence
But I can surely tell you that, my nexus 5 was working after recovering and used for 3-4 days with water inserted in screen. My mistakes broke the screen and but my device other than screen is working properly. And I agree with you for this. But where I can find possible solution because LG want me to replace hardware, and I can't get warranty with online stores.
What you did to your iphone then?
dude, please go to http://www.parts4repair.com/lg-nexus-5-d820/ and select the part(s) you need to repair your device.

My adventures with authorized Sony Service Center

Hi Z1 Compact users! I'd like to ask you what do you this.
Some time ago I broke my Z1C LCD. I decided to replace it manually. I bought a cheap one and replace it. Unfortunately screen's quality was poor - very soon I broke touch panel. It doesn't fit corectly to frame as weel. Also battery cover glue weakened so it's not wter proof anymore.
I deicided to send my phoone to authorized Sony Servic Center in Poland - W-Support.
I received their opinion - They said that PCB needs to be replaced as well due to software ingenertion! Lol, nice.I didn't know that rooting and deboating my phone may cause it won't work properly.
Do you think they are right and PCB needs REALLY to be replaced? Costs of this one operation is about 150% of factory new Z1C
In their opinion it needs to be replaced not because I could broke it somehow during screen raplacing buy "DUE TO SOFTWARE CHANGES"
No, they just scammed you.
Unless you physically broke some connector during LCD replace there is absolutely no reason to replace entire PCB.
Also you should avoid authorized sony service centers at all costs (especially in Poland!), unless your phone is still on warranty period. They'll just charge you 3 times more than any other professional center.

Staff at service center will easily detect that it was fell into the water by checking warranty stickers which are found inside the phone these stickers are designed in such a way that whenever they come in contact with water they turn up their color so I don't think they will help u in any way. Always do insurance of your phone at the time buying so u can easily tackle these type of situations

Literally every non removal back phone is little bit water resistant even xiamoi redmi note 4 is survived the water resistant test but the company never claimed that it is water resis.flagships phone are officially water resistant and claimed by their respective companies but if u look into the warranty of any phone even those who claimed to be water resistant will not provide u any kind of warranty regarding water damage that's why I used word "water resistant" but not "water proof" there is so much difference in resistance and proof and despite if your phone has IP 68 rating it is not guaranteed that it will not going to be damage by water yes chances are very low but it is still there.
The manufacturers do not honor IP ratings, that's why they are water resistant, because waterproofing will rob them of essential aftersales business.
