PX5 Screen brightness too bright at night. Solution needed - MTCD Android Head Units General

My screen is too bright even when I turn the brightness slider to the minimum. It's especially distracting at night. I've downloaded a night vision app, but the screen is still too bright overall. Any recommendations or solutions?
Thank you.

What did the reseller suggest?

I use the app twilight from the app store. It provides an overly to dim the screen by time of day, works great for me on Px5 HA MCTD

Configured power button in factory settings "short press = screen off".

I prefer Lux Lite, even the free version is nice and auto starts with the head unit and is in the taskbar drop down. You can either press "+" and "-" buttons to brighten/darken the display or use a slider. The paid version has auto dawn/dusk features as needed along with other features. You can go down to a black screen with the app. I love it for night driving.

Tasker cannot control screen brightness as well...
Is there any MCU intent signals can be used in Tasker to control screen brightness? I want to set reduce screen brightness during particular time period of day (18.00 to 6.00)

Reached out to the seller, they only knew of the slide in the software. Using lux app. Does the job.

Anyone has idea on the MCU intent signals? I tried sending 'com.microntek.light' with keyCode as extra parameter(eg. keyCode:50) using tasker send intent.. but it does not change the screen brightness at all.

I need to turn screen off, to test if it is causing static noise.

I've moved to the dimly app. Have it run at startup and from sleep. Does what I need it to do.

Sorry for revive but I have the same issue.
Screen is way too bright at night.
Unit is an Xtrons TB700L PX5 @ Android 10, will check MTCD/E tomorrow.
All I want is a darker screen on a schedule, seems that this is too hard in 2020.
I have tried about 30 apps in Play Store but none works the way I want.
Some dims the screen on time if the unit is on, or if the unit turns on for the first time in the specified time interval.
But 99.9999% of the time if the unit is woken in the interval, nothing happens.
Seems that when the unit goes to sleep when ignition turns off, apps die.

Auto brightness is useless!

In a 100% dark area (movie theater, etc.), when I flick my wrist to turn on the watch, it turned on with full brightness on. It stay there indefinitely... sometimes it'll go away by itself, other time I have to do something, like swiping cards before the screen will go dim.
In a semi (50% dark), the screen will not turn on to its full brightness, but at... dim. WTH?!
Stick watch face?
I've noticed this as well (when driving at night). Since it turns on all the time (I steer with the same hand I wear my watch on), I've noticed lots of strange behavior. Sometimes it turns on very bright, and then goes back to sleep. Sometimes it turns on bright and then dims to the minimal brightness that it should be. Sometimes it turns on with the appropriate, minimum brightness. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it. I'm running a stock watch face, and have very few apps installed.
As someone offered up 'muting' the watch while driving in another thread as a possible solution, it doesn't help me. Whether or not the watch is muted, it still wakes up all the time, and varying brightness levels.

Auto brightness works well for me with ambient mode ON, I think I remember it being buggy with ambient mode OFF, what is yours set to?

I have ambient mode OFF to save battery. Will turning it on fix the issue? I use Sleep as Android for sleep tracking and turn Ambient off and it lights up here and there at night.

I did a little thread cleaning to remove the off topic arguments about using a device (phone or watch) in a movie theatre. There were a lot of people who quoted these posts, and unfortunately I had to remove these posts as well...sorry for that.
Here is the thing, this thread is about the buggy behavior of the watch waking up at full brightness. It doesn't matter if it is in a theatre, whilst driving the car, or you just woke up in the middle of the night and want to check the time. More that one person has reported the issue and there has been a proposed fix...please keep the thread focused on finding the root causes, fixes, work arounds, etc. No matter what, please knock off the name calling, that will only get you into trouble!
Thanks!:good:

Try turning ambient mode ON during the day,
I just tested and with it off the screen does occasionally come on at full brightness even in the dark. With ambient on it only comes on bright the first time, quickly dims, and stays dim until taken into daylight :good:

Interesting. So with ambient ON, it still turn on at full brightness but momentarily. I'll test this and will report back.
Well, I'm having the opposite problem following the last update.
it frequently (at work right now, for example) comes up EXTREMELY dim, I'd guess maybe 5x dimmer than brightness setting '1'.
I'm setting it to '1' as a workaround for now.

Wait for the next 5.0 update. .there's options like theater mode. ..and other brightness modes coming to wear

Smart Brightness for Moto 360
Try the application "smart brightness for moto 360" from the Google play. With this application you can set a minimum brightness and better view in low light environments.
With the minimum set to 20% and auto brightness on you will get better battery life and better experience in dark situation.

The application really works. If you want see how works, do the followings steps:
1. open Smart Brightness App
2. Turn on the application
3. Set the minimum brightness to 20%
4. Turn on the auto brightness.
5. Go to a dark room and wait until Moto360 to turn off the screen.
6. Touch the screen to wakeup the screen. (This is necessary because the Smart Brightness application start when the screen is on and stop when the screen is off).
You will see a clear image after this steps. Now go to the smart brightness app and turn it off (Using the on/off switch located at the top of the screen). Repeat the steps 5 and 6. Now the screen will look dark, because it is the factory auto brightness.
I recommend to use the 7 days trial. After 7 days after using it you will notice the difference.
I'm using this app over a month and works fine. Please let me know any other concern about the application.
For me its not the low light the problem as this works, is outside doens't go bright enough in direct sunlight

Do you manually change brightness a lot?

With most Android Wear watches lacking an ambient light sensor, this Huawei one included, I'm wondering if you often have to manually adjust brightness, either not to be blinded at night, or to actually see the screen in daylight.
As far as I understand, an awake watch will get brighter, and ambient mode will be darker. There's also the double and triple crown clicks for theater (screen off) and sunlight (brighter) modes. And things like Display Brightness for Wear, or through AutoWear for finer grained and somewhat automated results.
And that's what I'm really wondering: if I can get a satisfying custom behaviour through AutoWear, by slices of day time (eg, brightest at noon, and progressively darker as night approaches), that'd be fine enough to me. But if I constantly have to adjust things manually, I fear that would quickly become annoying (I can spend a lot of energy tweaking automation to ensure I can be as lazy as can be afterwards ).
Do you choose a middle ground brightness setting and are fine with it most of the time, except when you rarely have to double or triple crown click? Do you find yourself manually adjusting brightness a few times a day? Do you constantly fiddle with brightness settings?
I don't touch it at all. I have it set to 4 and could even get away with 3 if I want. When you need a brightness boost just hit the crown three times and you're set.
I missed it greatly from my urbane, so I went back to it.

What I'm interested in is how often do people with the Huawei watch feel the need to manually change brightness settings.
Crown
So, by hitting the crown three times, the brightness goes up one level?
Also, is the crown button function behavior customizable?
Thanks!

Have the watch since tuesday ("Active", ie black, with single layer leather) And I agree: most of the time, 2 or 3 are enough. 1 is actually even too bright to me at night, especially since I'm seemingly unable to have ambient brightness get as low as how bright it is awake at 1 (is ambient brightness level fixed?).
Under direct sunlight, it's not always that easy to see even with the bright 3-click sunlight mode. But generally, twisting my wrist a little to avoid direct reflections, or at worst covering it a bit with my other hand, is enough.

Ambient mode brightness is not configurable on the watch, but certain 3rd-party watchfaces offer this setting. I'm using Skymaster and it offers different brightness for ambient mode.

Does that setting only apply to the actual watch face, or to the whole display? I've managed to make it dimmer with a partially transparent black layer in WatchMaker, but it doesn't apply to cards previews, or icons such as mute...
SWapp True Dark allows for actually adjusting the brightness of the whole ambient display, which is already great, but I'd rather have that manageable through Tasker (to have it auto adjust by time of the day). Have asked João if this could be implemented in AutoWear, so maybe it'll end up manageable through that.
Seems quite crazy to me this setting is not available by default. Reminds me, even though I think Android is the best OS of its kind, how lame I find it without the truckload of customization I lay over it...
I have 8 days ago my Huawei SW. It's my first SmartWatch and I'm really disappointed not to do anything with Tasker and Android Wear to adjust brightness to my liking clock automatically.
On the day I need more brightness when I'm out and at night the minimum brightness of the screen saver is very strong.
The bothers me most at the moment is so intense brightness of screen saver at night. No achievement make it more tenuous. Anyone know if there is any app that you can do?
Hopefully one of the experts and boys of this site something to be developed further manipulate Androi tasker and wear.
I've been using Display Brightness for Wear. It allows for different brightness settings for day and night in different situations. I wish it was more customizable or there were some ways to control brightness with tasker. Unfortunately, I've been unable to find those.
Autowear just needs to be able to receive a message that ambient is selected. It thinks the watch is off instead of in ambient. Frankly, though, SWapp does what I need. I also use WatchMaker faces and customize the dim mode to my liking.
i use Wear Mini Launcher and have it set to show the widgets before the apps, so one swipe to the right gets me a brightness slider. Its very each to adjust this way. With Wear Mini Launcher I can also quickly set my phone to silent/vibrate mode, turn on flashlight, ping the phone even if the phone is on vibrate, etc

wait...WAT?! i've never known this...btw it doesn't work with Android Wear 2.0 preview 2
I've thought of something somewhat cool but I'm no developer.
What if we can use our cellphone's ambient light sensor to sync with the watch so that the watch can get both bright and/or dim when needed?
Theoretically this will function correctly if your phone isn't in your pocket all the time.

Disable automatic dim when car lights are switched on

Hi,
I have recently bought an RK3188 Unit (KLD6) and am happily running Malayks ROM on it. However, when I switch on the lights of the car, the unit lowers the brightness of the screen. As I have to use lights during day in some parts of Europe, I would like to manage the brightness of the screen by an app. If it is a bright day and I have to drive with lights switched on, I can barely read the screen anymore. So is there any way to prevent this behavior? I know that I could just remove the lights wire, but I would like to have the LEDs to be switched on or off with the lights.
In case of Mtcd devices such option is in Factory Settings (password to enter it is 126). You can check it in case of your unit. I had the same problem - in my country it is mandatory to use head lights 24h per day so I lost screen visibility during the day.
Thanks for your answer. However, I wasn't able to find any option to turn off the brightness control. Do you remember how it was labeled/called? I found the option to turn on the LEDs permanently and also brightness control for reverse driving, but no option for the brightness with lights switched on.
Thanks in advance.
I found the solution, which obviously was too obvious to be found beforehand by myseld. :/ The normal system settings menu provides a tab 'Display', in which the brightness can be set as 'auto', 'light', and 'Dark', whereas 'Auto' means that the brightness depends on the status of the car lights, 'Light' means bright and 'Dark' means lower brightness.

Screen keeps auto dimming even when set to 100% - Eonon 5.1.1

Hi everybody, I recently updated my Eonon Androud HU to 5.1.1 using the first 5.1.1 custom ROM listed here. The DSA Prerooted ROM. Thus far it's been functional and fits my needs over the Malaysk ROM. However this ROM has some sort issue with it automatically dimming the screen to low, even though it's been set to 100%. When sliding the brightness slider to 100, the screen will still dim on its own, regardless of the adjustment still being set at 100%. I have gone through all the settings and found nothing that can help me. The display submenu only displays the option "Brightness". Which is just the standard slider to adjust the brightness. There is no option for Auto, Low, Bright, etc.
I've downloaded some apps to control the brightness to see if that would help, but something on this ROM is overriding any brightness apps from working. I even tried installing an xposedMTC module as it had an automatic dimming option, hoping to deactivate it completely but no luck. The way my car works is my headlights have an automatic DRL. When I turn my DRL's off, the headunit seems to activate it's full brightness, until I turn the automatic light control back on which turns on my DRL's, then the screen goes dim again. It's as if the headunit is going by the whole "Oh your headlights are on, it must be dark outside. Let me adjust the brightness to low for you".
Any help would be appreciated. I hope it's a simple fix. Thank you!

That's one of the main differences between Malaysk and DSA. DSA told me look out the window and figure it's night time. Secondly he told me to go to max at least two or even three times in a row. It will then STAY 100% bright till you reboot.

Whoa, thanks for the quick reply and useful information. Is there absolutely no way to bypass having to do that method? As that would be a chore doing it multiple times after exiting and entering my car multiple times a day. Maybe a simple build.prop edit possibly? Just naming ideas.

You could disable brightness control entirely or just alter the brightness levels.
It's in file /system/etc/install-recovery.sh - at its end, comment out all 14 lines after comment line reading "#Brightness control (last, always)", in order to disable the algorithm.
OR, change line reading "nb=5 ### Night Brightness ###" to a different value for the night brightness (nb), eventually equal to day brightness (db, on next line).
Use a root explorer, or edit a copy of file on PC (with notepad+ if on Windows) and copy it back - with a root explorer or manually, if you can. File mode: 0755, owner & group: root:root.
If script /system/etc/install-recovery.sh gets "damaged", you must reinstall the firmware, but with NO wipe all, so fairly quickly and no loss of settings and apps.
Editing of script could also be done with @devilsoft app (with a name I can't recall).

Hi @brian117 !
In fact, there is a simple fix I found lately.
You need to enter factory settings first.
Go to SETTINGS -> Factory settings -> enter code: m123456
When you're there, go to last page, and tick the "Key light" option.
Now press "Apply" and "Exit". Confirm reboot.
It worked with me - now the screen has full brightness regardless of the car lights on or off (in Poland we need to have the lights on whole day, as well). Now you can use a software dimming, like MTC to auto dimm the screen according to actual day time. I did this. Works like a charm! (I set dimming after sunset to 75% brightness)

App for Brightness, Xtrons TB700L (PX5)

I have a Xtrons TB700L and it is good except for the brightness.
It is to bright at night, even at lowest settings.
There are many apps for lowering the brightness more, but some cost a lot to try with full functions och do not like when the unit goes to sleep.
Any app-suggestions?
I would like:
Autostart that survives when ignition off and comes on again.
Dim on schedule
Dim the whole screen.

Solved. Kind of.
The app Darker does not use the service, only overlay.
It will not dim the Nav bar, but I have switched to Apex launcher and hidden the nav bar.
So Darker is a good app for this now.
