One day: Easy screen digitizer/glass replacement - LG V30 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi folks,
Do you think that one day manufacturers will make their phones with easy replaceable screen digitizer/glass that every one could relace if broken.
That day we will no longer have to hide these flagships behind TPU cases and screen protectors. I think it's not impossible.
Imagine you are going out with your new Mercedes from the dealership and you are going straight to the paint shop to add a layer of rubbery paint against scratches and two front and rear bumpers like a police car.

Faux-screen protectors

not only am I stupidly new to the android scene, this phones accessories are medieval at best. The screen protector they offer for this phone is basically a piece of plastic that doesn't cover the entire front end of the phone and instead barely covers the screen part... major fail (hopefully someone will post a link to an aftermarket one that does a better job covering the entire front end all the way up to the speaker). Furthermore, the default screenprotector you can buy is still glared up and smugable. If you get the G2 anti smuge/glare screen protector it actually fits and does a better job but still doesn't cover the entire front of the phone as I'd like.
the rubber band / gel case makes me squirm. I had an ottercase for my iphone and felt goooood about it. I really want someone to make a case that protects this phone and the camera on the back, at least with a screen protector for the cam as well because its huge and easily scratchable.
anyhow..
some one make us some good accessories PRONTO!
As far a screen protectors go...I have always used Phantomskinz.com Their products always have perfect fitment and last a long time. From what I understand, they should have some for our device sometime next week. You have to have some level of comfort to apply them though...like ghost armor, BSE and all the rest, you have to use water or a soapy solution to apply it.
As for cases...I have been keeping an eye on ebay. Like yourself...I think the floppy silicon cases are complete rubbish. I have used the "TPU" cases on several of my devices and have had nothing but great things to say about them. They offer some impact resistance and do not add to the bulk of the device hardly at all...plus they are usually about $5.00 shipped

I will only speak for the screen and say that a screen protector simply isn't needed. Every time someone asks me what screen protector I use on my Nexus I take out my keys, scratch the screen and tell them that I don't use any. Same goes for the MT4G. I've heard that it has Gorilla glass but it the screen is at least as good as the N1. For the record, I scratched it with my keys and it looks as good as it did out of the box. As far as the body goes, that's all you. I prefer my phones in their birthday suits if possible.
AFAIK no gorilla glass (pyrex) on the MT4G
i had protector on my g1, but my N1 was naked (sept for the cute little condom for it that came in the box). never had any issues... the screen (well protective screen cover) on both is pretty robust... the MT4G even has dimpling on it to prevent glare (examine carefully in the sun if you dont believe me)
the smudges on this phone have been making me squirm though...
My screen protector on my mytouch 4g covers the entire width and length of my phone... ffc is cut out tho..
You refer to the iPhone , as a previous iPhone 4 owner, i honestly feel the mt4g BLOWS THE IPHONE 4 COMPLETELY AWAY IN EVERY AREA AND ASPECT.....

You the First Person to MAN UP and admit it, other iphoner's like yeah bidadad but app market bededuddd. They honestly have nothing to say
@igni1ed:
Get yourself some Realook screen protectors and you'll be set. They are available on Amazon at $11 for a pack of 2. I used them on my Vibrant and just ordered a set for the MT4G. If you apply them correctly (i.e., without air bubbles or dust particles underneath), you won't even be able to tell that there's a screen protector on your phone.

Which Type Of Case To Protect Digitizer Glass?

Having cracked the screen on my old HD2, I feel a bit paranoid now and want a case for my Note. I haven't ever used a case for any phone in the past as I'm in the mind frame that you pay good money for a phone which is well designed and feels great in the hand, so why go and cover it up? By the time the phone is so scratched and beaten up that it no longer looks pretty, it's time to change it anyway.
So, I don't understand why someone would put a plastic housing around the back of their phone, as surely that area doesn't need anywhere near as much protection as the glass? Happy to hear your views though.
At the same time, the plastic films which cover the screen wouldn't protect the screen from cracking in the eventuality of a fall, would they? So again, I can't see the reason for covering a lovely feeling screen with a film.
I use my phone in the car for navigation, so a flip case might not be practical, which I guess only leaves me with a sock/sleeve case of some sort?
Can anyone recommend something which will offer some level of protection to the glass screen (digitizer) in the event of a fall?
Have you looked at these:

I really like the original flipcase...

My only concern with those tempered glass 'covers' is that they only protect the phone's digitizer from scratches. There is no evidence that dropping one's phone will only crack the tempered glass and leave the digitizer in one piece. Or is there?
Use a universal car mount and you can use a flip case.

caseit s3 screen protector

Bough one of these to replace the scree protector that came with my otterbox (which i managed to get a piece of lint under).
5.99 from sainsburys, bought as temporary replacement while I research which is the best replacement for the otterbox one.
Quick review.
Application Comes with a wet, then dry cloth. Cleaned the screen much better than the cleaner that came with the otterbox.
Protector goes on very easily, the plastic cover is just thick enough that when you apply it it keeps the protector straight. No obvious bubbles.
Feeling/sensitivity A little resistance to movement compared to having a naked screen, not as good as the otterbox one. Sensitivity appears relatively unchanged. Does get a littele greasy but easily wiped clean.
VFM At half the price of the cheapest "good brand" I can't complain. Definitely will be replacing it at some point but can't decide with what so at present am quite happy.

Avoid cheap TPU cases - can scratch your HTC One!!

When i bought my HTC One Stealth Black, i made sure that i got a perfect model (no defects). I took about an hour in the shop examining all the black HTC One's (they agreed to open 3 boxes for me) before i finally made up my mind. I paid for my phone off-contract and went home perfectly happy with a 801e model (it also has a sticker on the side of the phone that says UKR and on the box as well, so i guess it's from Ukraine and i got a 3-pin power adapter in the box together with the standard 2-pin charger plug) and also got a free TPU case with screen protector, as gift from the shop. Well, i put my phone in the TPU case as soon as i got home for fear of any drops/bumps/scratches, put it in my jeans pocket and went through the rest of my day moving around. Later that afternoon, i pulled the phone out of its case to touch the cold aluminium back and to my horror, i found a scratch (there were no scratches whatsoever before) that matched the contour of the TPU case around the camera. The scratch is around the flash.
Conclusion: The cheap unbranded TPU case seemed to fit the phone snugly but apparently not, as the constant movement and rubbing of the phone within the TPU case from inside my jeans pocket had caused the sharp edge of the TPU case to slowly erode the paint coating. It's a good thing that i noticed it after only one day usage or the etching would have definitely gone deeper, possibly even exposing the aluminium colour after a couple of days. It says "nothing but the best" on the packaging of the unbranded case, which is ironic.
So, my advice (and the reason for my endless rant in this post): stay away from cheap TPU cases, even if it says TPU, which might be true about the material itself but the fact of the matter - without a tight fit of the phone inside the casing, the resulting inside friction between the phone and its casing will damage your phone, causing the paint to wear off. This is probably not applicable to those of you who chose/use the Glacial Silver HTC One, since any scratch will probably not show up. But with time, the constant friction might cause the scratch to become visible. I've attached pictures so you can understand why i'm *****ing about my One By the way, i apologize for my dirty camera lens.
Lesson learnt - i've already ordered 3 casings (the best i could find after hours of searching, for cases that offer a balance between compactness v/s protection); Cimo Grip Back Case Flexible TPU Black, Otterbox Commuter Black and UAG Aero. I wouldn't bother with any other cases, unless you want even more protection, then you should be satisfied with the Otterbox Defender case.
My friend .. ANY case you put on the phone has the potential to scratch the aluminum on the edges. It is simple physics: if you get some dust/sand in between the case and the aluminum (where in other locations can the dust/sand/lint settle ?) any slight pressure or movement of the case will cause a small surface defect. You can not hide from that and you can not prevent that.
Live with it ! It is called reality.

I had the black for a while. I think that it is prone to anything. Apart from light scratches sustained by using the double dip case, the camera cut out of an incipio case left a watermark on it as well. Now using a silver one and not a single scratch. Rotating between three cases.
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't anodized AL WAY harder than TPU?
If it is, then isn't it PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE for the case itself to scratch the phone?
Either a) there was dust/dirt in the case or
b) it's not a scratch, try wiping it with mild soap, water and a soft cloth.
Interesting thread...you were writing this 3 years ago, I just picked up two pristine condition used m7s, both with nearly all day batteries. Yesterday I got two cases of the first type described below.
I just love these phones so much. They are such a huge upgrade from any phone I have had since I had a droid 2 from motorola before knowing anything at all about these nifty little computers.
I just came in here to say that I will be getting the hard glass protection from now on for every phone I get. Would also recommend to anyone as it is far superior to foils.
Also three good types of cases:
- the hardened shell with no button coverage, and brushed metal exterior
- the clear plastic back, black bumpered semi hard with plugs and accurately designed button enhancers (distinguished by black surface lines on the back coming in from upper and lower edges about a cm each, towards the antennas)
-and believe it or not I really liked the ordinary rubber sort of cases with wavy line down the back and dual texture... as long as they have button covers. But those wouldnt be good for people who have a hard time with the buttons already.
Just picking up these phones starting in June 2016...has made my android experience so much more enjoyable...now being able to play top 3d heavy performance requiring games...and so much different development for the phones.
here's a couple pics of my phone cases I was describing. no scratches whatsoever on the two used like new phones, although its a used case on goldy. the other phones are for family and such, but also loving the cases on them. red looks good in red but it obscures the back... so take clear

OEM glass as screen protector (dumb question?)

Has anyone thought about using OEM glass replacement as screen protector? I was thinking perhaps use LOCA glue to lay it down on existing glass. I mean, it's got a perfect fit and strong as the original. But I started wondering how it will affect the touch sensitivity, camera, sensors and case fitment.
I was searching for protector for N8 and came across a product that is basically that but with cutouts for sensors so it got me thinking. The cheapest glass replacement for N8 is currently $30 on Amazon so that's not too bad considering the alternative. As long as the glue can be removed with heat, I don't see why I should spend $15 or more for something worse. And I don't think it will be too difficult to squeeze out the glue to thinnest without introducing bubble since they are perfect fit. Curves are nice but it's PIA to protect it...
What do you guys think?
