I ordered the Zenwatch during those few hours they were first available online at best buy. I picked it up yesterday and only have a few days left before I need to return my Sony Smartwatch 3. I want to decide between the two, and was leaning towards the Zen because of aesthetics and I actually like the charging cradle design.....
BUT, this watch lags like crazy and then freezes completely within a few minutes of booting. Even the very first time I turned it on, it took forget to register what I had selected for language. After rebooting, I got past that and it eventually installed a software update. Unfortunately, that didn't seem to help.
After 1 or 2 cycles of dimming the screen and being woken up, the watch freezes. The phone still thinks it is connected and I can feel it vibrate when swiping down to mute/unmute, but the graphics are frozen. The side drawer doesn't activate and the only way to shut it down is to hold the power button for 10sec or so.
I've done multiple "resets" on the watch and repaired the phone, but it keeps acting the same. Is there a hard reset for this watch? Anyone else experience this?
I'd exchange it at best buy but of course they are sold out so who knows how long before they can exchange it.
This happened to me when I had the 360. It froze when I was trying to turn it off. I eventually got it off, just like you did. It never responded the same afterwards. It would freeze at random times. I assumed it was the TI processor in the 360, but I hope this is not something to expect with AW. I took mine back to BB and got a refund so I could get this watch. I hope this is an isolated event.
All the reviews have been stellar and people have seemed happy even on the fortune, so I'm sure this is isolated.
I wonder if there is a way to reload the system software from the computer to the watch? Best buy is a no-go at this time. Sold out and unable to help aside from returning and refunding it.

Based on the tracking status, I should get mine tomorrow. I'll let you know if I experience any funny business when I get mine up and running. Good Luck.
I really haven't noticed any significant lag. It's initially unresponsive sometimes which I attribute to an overly conservative cpu governor, but otherwise it's a pleasant experience.
I've had mine for almost a week now and definitely haven't seen those problems. There were updates to both the watch and phone app soon after starting up. Maybe you got a bad load on one of them. Have you tried the 'Resync apps' option from the Android Wear (Phone) settings menu? Have you tried the full factory reset of the watch? If so, sounds like dud might be the case. If of any significance, I'm connecting via a stock Sprint HTC One Max.
Yes, the watch did an update after the first successful boot, but it was laggy and had frozen during the language setup even the first time. I've done multiple factory resets to no avail, but it does not repeat the update with that (though it does require pairing to the phone again).
I wish I could manually reload the watch system software. I'm new to Android wear rooting, etc. Is it possible to manually completely reload the system software?
Yes, I've also tried the resync apps and have the latest phone software as well...

I would maybe try once with a different phone then call it a dud. I don't know enough about it either to go deeper than that.
Saga over. Returned the watch today after trying clean installs of everything last night. It would even freeze when not connected. Sucks to get a dud, but glad this seems to be a unique occurrence.
Trying out the LG G watch R (what a horrible name). Big and sporty instead of subdued, but nice nonetheless.

I was having similar issues but wanted a couple days with the watch before i posted, I just requested a RMA for the watch, love the look of it, but was having issues with random reboots, very laggy ui especially when browsing through watch faces..had one time where the watch actually locked up and required a hard reset via the button on the back..also got significant battery drain, 2 percent every it seemed 10 minutes....Hopefully the replacement is better than this one...I could live with some of the issues, but the random rebooting i can't deal with. If the 2nd is a dud mite get the sony, till then back to my trusty g watch.

Did you get your watch back? I have to send mine in too because the battery dies in 5 hours without even touching it. ASUS said it is a bug with the lollipop update so they are going to re-flash it. Also did you have to ship it yourself or did you get something in the mail.

I sent mine in cuz it wouldn't turn on. I received an RMA, shipped it to them and they had it back to me in less than a week.
So now that Oreo has been out for some time and there is still no fix insight for BT issues on nearly half of productions cars today. As a consumer, what can one do? I mean my phone is basically a paper weight inside a car, its against the law to use it without BT, and it basically creates a hazard situation when it randomly stops working while driving. In a few weeks I am headed to a trip where I'll be driving for many hours daily for over 1 week. I obviously need a functional BT since I use it for directions and calls.
I understand bugs happen, but as far as I know this bug is 4 month old since first release of DP......knowing Goggles attitude not giving a fck, this could last months as it did on 7.1
Isnt this reasonable, if device is under warranty manufacture must either replace it or provide a full refund? Thats how it worked with every since piece of electronics I have ever returned under warranty
i expect there will be a few replies here with the various other threads already on this subject but i will say that my Oreo and my Ram truck with Uconnect has only one issue and that is the song information for things like Pandora dont update and generally stay on the initial song played.
other that issue i make and receive calls and text via the stereo with no issues. maybe its varies with other car makers product but with Uconnect it works as expected.
i also assume you have tried having both products for the device and re-pair?

No issues here currently
Metadata does not update is one of my issues too. I noticed that there are many random issues. Sometimes it works 100%, other times it doesn't connect at all or disconnects while driving
Most modern cars have problems. I know it doesn't work on all BMWs , then I saw many repotting the same on Audis, VWs, Hondas, and Toyotas. All reported cars are like 2013-1014 and up
Repairing doesn't fix anything
Major hardware issue with Google Pixel...stop wasting time resetting phone.
Hi,
Google Pixel phone has serious Bluetooth incompatibility issue and the company keeps saying as long as it can connect to at least one device it is not their problem. After six months of struggling of factory resets and replacement under warranty the support team did acknowledge to me that it is a major hardware problem that it cannot communicate with other devices, especially car audio system. Nothing can be done whatsoever to fix the matter.
As part of industry standard it is common practice for Bluetooth connection to not have an issue, especially for a smartphone costing $700 plus. As a standard operating procedure, a hardware compatibility problem should have been checked before selling such defective phones. I wonder what is it that they check as part of quality assurance from Google brand.
I had been using three generations of iPhones before, a Samsung Galaxy S7 edge with my 2013 BMW 528i before switching this poorly made device. Often times, rather each time I reached out to the Project Fi support, every team member asked me to go get the car upgraded. I have had my car inspected under the four year free warranty, however now it would cost me hundreds of dollars to get another diagnosis. I recently tested iPhone 6 with iOS 11 and also iPhone 7 from a friend. This same friend told me that cars are specifically made to be compatible with iPhones on purpose or the car OS is tested for iPhones alone. That does not sound logical to me, since my car is four years old and the other newer phones can talk to it without a flaw.
It shows clearly that Google is not interested in the phone business when there are so many users complaining about one of this fundamental features of what is expected from an advanced smartphone.
I request your help in getting this word out so users stop buying a substandard device based on brand name.

its not just OEM radios, my Kenwwod Excelon wont connect to Padora/Spotify anymore
Ok, so I have a smart watch and wear it all the time. But, it seems I can't have the phone connected to my watch and my car at the same time. I came from a S7 Edge and there was never a problem and the phone would reliably connected to both, and it didn't matter if the connection involved my watch and speaker or car, it connected and everything was great. Now that I have the Pixel 2 XL, I cannot to both at the same time and the connection is not reliable to even one device. It will disconnect regularly from anything connected.
Well, I figured this odd considering the Bluetooth version in the Pixel 2 is more advanced than the S7, but apparently I'm wrong. I contacted Google regarding the issue and was told it can only connect to one device at a time. I'm not sure how it makes sense to not allow a Android Wear watch to be connected at the same time you're connected to another device, because that would make having smart watch pretty much useless since a whole lot of people would like to be able to get notifications on their watch while listening to music via connected Bluetooth speaker!?
Ok, so after receiving that answer I then addressed the fact that my phone won't reliably hold a single connection to my watch regardless of any other devices I'd ike to connect too. Here comes the typical trouble Shooting...(reboot, delete paired devices, wipe phone and start fresh), nothing changed. Customer service finally said I need a new device, and this is after spending nearly an hour talking to them. So I'm thinking "perfect!" The customer service representative told me how sorry they are and they want to make the process as easy as possible by shipping a brand new device to me, and when I get the new one, I can activate it and then send the defective device back to Google using a prepaid shipping label. She said I'll get an email with a link to finish the process and will be good to go soon, and even promised the new device would not have these issues.
Well...I got the email and clicked the link, but this brings me to an order that would says if be charged for the phone. I'm a little confused so I message the agent I spoke to and she said they will only put a hold on my funds for the $950, which would be removed once they receive the is device. Ok, I get that they are making sure they don't get caught up giving away a device if this cost, but it's a defective device,. And.... I'm not a rich person and that money is needed for the family and bills. I financed the phone for a 0% APR, which is basically free money, just in advance and don't have an extra $1,000 laying around or else I would have just purchased the phone up front.
Long post, but I want everyone get a full picture and then get opinions. Am I wrong to think I shouldn't have to let a company that provided me with a faulty device put a hold on so much of my money, (especially when it's only been about 2 weeks since I received the device) just to get a new, properly working device? I've would love some feedback and sorry for the long post.
I just think it's completely ridiculous and really ruined all the excitement I had about the phone and completely turned me off about the whole of the "Made By Google" idea... And I've literally bought a new Android phone every year since the very 1st Android phone, the G1. Maybe I'm going off the deep end with this and overreacting, but any time I've had an issue with an item that has a cost like this one does, they've done everything to make it right without causing me to adjust my budget, to simply get a replacement.
Anyway, please give me your thoughts on this!?

I rather have the advance replacement option instead of where I have to send the phone first. I'm in that situation right now and I'm not sure where my phone is. It didn't get scanned and it's been almost a week.
I have LG watch sport and my watch stays connected to my phone while connected to my car BUT there are caveats. If I press the BT button in my car it will connect to my phone but only gain media control. If I go into settings and manually connect my car it will have both media and phone functionality. It's an annoyance but I've gotten used to it.

Wow! So your phone can connect to "multiple" devices at the same time. That's interesting. I attached a screenshot of the conversation with Google where I was told that wasn't even possible. I really don't get why they are straight up lying to me. I suppose it's so they aren't admitting blame, but I sure would have felt a whole lot better if they just came clean about it.

I guess technically the watch is not using the media profile that the car BT is using but I play music and take calls from my car BT just fine while still receiving notifications to the watch.

Well, mine can't even do that. I find it crazy that my S7 could connect to both devices, on an older version of Bluetooth, so efficiently and this new Bluetooth 5 can't. I was so pumped when I got this phone... But that excitement is completely gone. I'm so disappointed I don't even know what to say! Lol

Gear S3 and Moto 2nd edition. Same issue in both, so I know it's not Samsung software.
Pixel 2
I own a pixel 2 and am able to pair my Xbox one controller, and an audio source primarily my headphones or speaker, simultaneously without any problem. Am able to even use both at once front 40-50 ft before I start getting any audio stuttering.
My pixel 2 XL stays paired with my Sony smartwatch 3 constantly. And I can also be connected to my car or work truck & my Jaybirds at the same time. So I can be connected to 3 devices at once. I can choose in Bluetooth settings which device to send media & calls to. And get my notifications on my watch at the same time. Isn't this as it should be. I understood that this phone could connect to up to 5 Bluetooth devices at once.
I switched from a S8+ to the Pixel 2 XL a while ago and noticed there are some bluetooth issues. I can connect to multiple devices, but the connection is not always reliable, or just won't reconnect automatically. I'm using a Gear S3 smartwatch and a Sony WH-1000XM2 bluetooth headset. Both devices have problems with reconnecting automatically.
I think it has to do with priorities, because if I have my smartwatch connected and enable my headset, the headset does connect sometimes and sometimes not. So, if it doesn't connect automatically and I do it by myself, my headset always states "no phone calls" and I don't have the battery bar of the headset. If I disable phone calls on my headset and reenable it again, it does connect automatically a few times and the battery symbol pops up. It seems my smartwatch and my headset are fighting, which one should handle calls.
hells
I have the LG Watch Sport myself, and it won't connect to my phone at the same time as my Sony bluetooth headphones. I haven't used the smart watch with the pixel 2 xl because of this very issue.
Why have a phone with not headphone jack, and a dodgy headphone connector that doesn't always work, and then make connecting to two bluetooth devices, so difficult?
Not sure if it helps ease your mind, but it wont be an actual charge just a hold authorization. Not sure if the device replacement will solve your issue though. if possible, get to a store and try to pair on a demo unit (remember to unpair after!)
I have an android wear watch which is connected all the time, and connect to other bluetooth devices with no problem. Lots of bluetooth devices connect without saying they are connected - my watch shows as paired but not connected when I'm playing through something else.

I know only 2 brands which allow to connect multiple calling devices. Apple and Samsung. All others sucks. Apple and Samsung will allow you to choose headphone, car, smart watch to answer or make call without digging in settings but just on call screen. All others won't let you to choose more than one calling device connected to bt.

Google'P' is supposed to allow multi bt connection's... hopefully!
Well. Samsung can do it on nougat. Each brand developers should just enable it that is what we need.
I don't have issues connecting to multiple devices BUT my major issue is when I initiate a call from the phone I rarely ever can hear there either person. I end up having to turn off Bluetooth. I'll hear everything up until the person picks up the phone.
I have an LG watch sport. If I start the call from the watch I'm fine. I rarely make outgoing calls which is the ONLY reason why I'm about to tolerate this but when I do, I just want to toss the phone away.

I'm truly amazed at the shoddiness of the Pixel 2 XL's bluetooth performance. My last several phones were LGs and I never had any issues connected to devices or switching between multiple connected devices. With this sucker, I have to manually turn off my Beyerdynamic Byrons when I get near my car. Otherwise I have to go into the BT settings and select my car as the primary. There's no way to prioritize devices either...WTF are you doin' Google. My first and last google branded product. Sure quick updates and a lean OS are nice but not at the expense of functionality that's been part of smartphones for year. AND, I got a $300 discount from Verizon that's not really a discount. I have to finish the 2 years instead of paying the device off early. I'm a miserable camper with my mobile experience as a whole UGH!!!!
Try the app Bluetooth Auto Connect.
Monday and Tuesday I used my android pay at work and then the past two days the NFC chip isn't being picked up. I noticed that it's not as strong as the one in my previous phone but is this chip weaker than other phones apple or android?
Make sure you're using the right part of the phone. The NFC chip is apparently just under the dual camera area.
The logo is the NFC area. Don't slap it against the top edge like an iPhone and you should be ok.
I'd say there's definitely something wrong with the NFC chip, maybe it's just under-powered, it's really hit or miss for me. Tried using Android Pay in 4 different shops, and it only worked once. I used both the area under the rear camera and around the Razer logo, no luck.
Definitely something wrong with my nfc chip too. Android pay works sometimes and not other times. Totally hit or miss
Sent from my Phone using Tapatalk
I think it's a bit hit or miss depending on the payment terminal. As strength seems to vary depending on shop.
Yeah, this phone is absolutely brutal for NFC range.
Tried it at lunch in my local fast food shop and took about 10-15 seconds to get it to work. I really miss the power of the iPhones NFC chip as it was as quick as taking it out your pocket and holding it near the terminal, scan the finger and done.
Now its like taking it out the pocket, unlock the phone then wave it around for 10-15 seconds to get the phones nfc chip detected.
I've tried at multiple vendors, it has worked at all for me. I just hold right under the camera on the scanner and it works every time.
never had an issue with mine scanning.... i do have an issue where it scans multiple times in succession, which causes the transaction be to declined for using multiple cards. Reading NFC tags read multiple times too.
My phone at the location did beep a few times and then send me a Android Pay error request form to fill out on the phone. Its a shop at work so not the worst place for it to fail on me but only happened at this location to me so far.
The chip really is weak or has a serious issue
half the shops I try it at say that i'm trying to use 2 contactless methods at once while the rest don't work at all
All I have to use it with is vending machines around here. I've had it work the times I've used it, but each time it would read incorrectly, forcing me to try again (working the second time).
the nfc chip doesnt seem to be as strong as it has been in my iPhone 6s Plus but its too hit or miss to say if its the phone or the contact payment terminal where the fault is. I have a local Tesco i have no problems with at 3/4 desks and one where it doesnt work at all.
The shop have said some people have issues at this desk but doesnt explain the one terminal at work in our shop where it worked for the 1st two days with some hassle and now doesn't work at all.
Ive been told to unlock the phone hold it to the terminal and wait for the tick before removing the phone but sometimes at the local shop at work in the 2 days it would error 1-3 times before being successfull however i just gave up at the point it didnt work at all on day 3
based on the poor nfc chip which i can only assume is hardware related as i dont see software correcting the issue im going to invest in an android watch with a nfc chip in it and use that.
Currently when i switched over from iPhone 6s Plus and iWacth 1st gen i picked up a Razer Nabu watch to get me through to xmas but feel i need a bit more than the smart features this is currently providing me with. Its not got any support as such as the data from the watch doesn't want to communicate with Google fit and do miss the nfc.
Unsure which watch to get so looking at this currently
Hey guys! I find myself in a bit of a pickle here. I got my Galaxy Watch (SM-800) two months back. Everything was working perfectly, untill a week back when my heart rate monitor and lift-to-wake stopped working without any warning. I've checked all settings (permission for gestures, wake-up gesture is also on) but I just cannot get these to work any more. I also flashed the latest firmware using NetOdin3, I was extremely hopeful that'll end my troubles but it didn't. I am planning to drop the watch off at a service center this weekend, but I've been a solve-things-by-myself guy for over a decade with my phones, and I hate having to visit the customer care. Is there any work around you guys can think of that I should try?
Thanks!
